One of my favorite places to eat in New Paltz after a day of climbing, hiking, or even just passing through town. Extensive menu with pretty respectable vegan friendly options (the tofu wings rock, just skip the sauce), the beer menu is phenomenal, and the service is usually excellent, even when I come in covered in dirt sweat and chalk with all my gear. My friends and I were heading back to New York when we decided to stop by in New Paltz for some dinner. We saw Bacchus Restaurant and we liked the way it looked from the outside right away. Greenish building with big windows which illuminate the restaurant. The interior design of the place is really rustic and authentic. We were seated right away, drinks and food came out really fast. The menu is really big and offers many options. Our experience wouldn't be so pleasant without our server Dustin. His service was exceptional, he was really helpful and super sweet. Bacchus is sort of a strange place. On one hand it's a beer bar, on another it's a restaurant, and on yet another it's a brewery. Not just any brewery: actually it's a spurs brewery. They only offer 1-2 of their beers at a time (sours are a pain in the ass to make) but everything I've had has been stellar. The rest of their beer selection is consistently great. Think a 'best hits' of craft beer along with special stuff like Hill Farmstead thrown in for good measure. The mix of different elements here makes the atmosphere a bit hectic and eclectic, but Bacchus definitely functions better as a beer bar things than as a restaurant. Food is mix of average tex mex and other random stuff random from basic American fare to Middle Eastern. We started with some nachos which were large and good for what they were. I got a burrito for my main. The burrito itself was decent with plenty of chicken. Nothing amazing but perfectly reasonable in terms of both taste and size. The beans were over seasoned badly to the point of being inedible. Rice was fine but the damned beans were all over it. Guacamole was pretty good. My fiancée had the veggie fajitas and liked it better than mine. They offer a very good mix of veggies, so that may be the move here. Wow just wow. We had a group of 15 after the Labyrinth and Lemon Squeeze hike, we were early and we had made the reservation for 8. We sit down at 7 and order etc etc. I ordered the Nasty Nachos- original choice was swordfish burrito, but I wasn't sure of the quality of the fish. The beers were sorta pricey- $9! Whatever, we were tired and hungry. We asked for more water as we had been hiking all day. It didn't arrive. Then, another member of our party asked another waitress for water. She brought it. WE WAITED AN HOUR FOR OUR FOOD TO ARRIVE AND IT WAS COLD! The Nachos were nasty so to speak. Nasty nasty. The ingredients were the worst I had ever seen. The chips were straight from a bag. The cheese flopped. The refried beans from a can. CANNED GUACAMOLE. I'm a hiker- I know what canned guac tastes like. I asked them to heat them up for me again. They arrived even worse than they were before. No one in our group liked their burgers. Too dry. The fries? Cold. So disgusting and unhealthy. What to say... I came here yet again, having been previously underwhelmed. The food used to be okay and very cheap. And, there is never much of a wait for brunch/lunch. Today, Bacchus hit a new low. My wife ordered the eggs benedict, and the eggs came out grossly undercooked. She picked at the first one, and managed to eat a few bites of the first egg and some potatoes. We told the waitress, and she said she would get it straightened out. We ask her to take the plate and wait on some cooked eggs. Fast forward to the replacement, they only bring her a single egg benedict, no toast/potatoes. The kicker is that the replacement is just as undercooked as the first ones. She doesn't even take a bite. At this, we ask for the check and leave. . The check has nothing discounted, so we leave a $2 tip. After all, we needed to go to another restaurant to get my wife something cooked to eat. The rest of our food was just ok. Nothing to write a review about. If you're considering Bacchus for drinks, fine. I might still go there for beer. For anything else, give this place a pass. read more

My wife and I went to Bacchus again for about the 100th time last night. I cannot express the excellent food, excellent selection of beer and other drinks, atmosphere, and mood of the restaurant. Dinner was fantastic. We ordered the artichoke dip with pita bread and then tuna tacos and the bacchus burger. The food was cooked to perfection and we left very satisfied. Downeast cider is my wife's favorite and to her enjoyment it came on tap at Bacchus. I had a white wine from New Zealand which was delicious. If you are in New Paltz you need to go to Bacchus. Heard about this place through the Yelp-vines and decided to stop in after a day at a local crafts fair (my wife's idea, of course). Located just off of Main St. in New Paltz, this bar has one of the most extensive beer selection you'll find in the area. With hundreds of bottled beers to choose from, you're bound to find an old favorite or try something entirely new to you. Prices were mostly reasonable, but some beers were a bit high (harder to find ones, vintage, etc) Come for the beers, stay for the food. While browsing through their menu, I saw the waitress bringing out a burrito to another table. I was instantly sold on it. The pulled pork burrito was a nice size and overly stuffed with meat (they don't skimp out or leave it all on one side that's for sure) and even had some extra scattered on top. It was filling and fantastic. My wife went with a veggie burger (once she sees that on a menu, she just has to try it). While it wasn't the best she's had in this area, she still found it to be quite enjoyable and really liked the pesto topping they put on it. Just absolute crap in every way. The beers are overpriced, the food is downright awful and also overpriced. The service was insanely bad with a server that knew absolutely nothing, made a bunch of mistakes, didnt bring our drinks that the bartender had already made etc...and then we were overcharged for things, the bill was a mess with hidden fees and also an included 20 percent gratuity. Tourist trap - Good beer selection and looks nice but not happy at the end. The only thin that is keeping this place alive is the name and the location right off main street. $33 for three tap beers and three shots of Jameson (btw it was advertized as a promotional Jameson night a half hour later). The bar tenders knew it was one of my guests birthday. The benefit to New Paltz is there are many other choices so I'm sure with yelp the word is out to go to a cheaper place with better food as others stated. Nice place to stop after a 6 mile hike in the shawangunks. Was dreaming about this place at the end of the walk! Thinking do they have drone deliveries? We started with beers from their extensive beer list and ate chicken fingers and a steak sandwich. Food was good, not great. Service was excellent. Kaitlynn checked on us frequently to make sure we had what we needed and explained the entrees. We also shared a pumpkin cheesecake with candied pecans which was stunning. Oh my. Came in here to grab a bite to eat and a beer. I ended up eating a mushroom bar pizza. Not too bad, they could've cooked it a minute or two more for a more crispy crust. That would be my only complaint. They have this beer passport thing where you drink 30 of 40 different types of beer from around the world and the U.S., and then you get a t-shirt. That being said, they have a massive beer selection. The funniest thing is one of the beers on the list, from India, is actually brewed in Saratoga Springs. I've been going to Bacchus for years now. It was a local watering hole for my friends and I throughout Graduate School. They have hundreds of beer from around the world to choose from as well as beer on tap, some of which is brewed in house. Their food is stellar, I've never been disappointed in a meal there. There are people who have been working there forever and you get to know them. They also offer pool for a small fee. As food goes, I don't know where else I can get three soft shell tacos with the works for 7$. read more

The waitress was just plain bad at her job, completely forgetting multiple things and never bringing them, ringing in the wrong order and blaming it on the kitchen, and not checking back on us after messing up. Went around 6pm on a Saturday after spending the day in New Paltz with my girlfriend. Surprisingly there were very few people inside, despite the heavy foot traffic right out side. I would not recommend eating here due to the poor service. We walked in and the server behind the stand asked how many. After we answered "two" she starred back at us. She then states "maybe you can sit over there", directing us to what I interpreted as the middle to back of the restaurant. We asked for menus and she said she would bring them over for us. 5 of us went there is past week around 2:30pm on Saturday. We sat inside and it didn't seem very busy, however, it was unclear to us if there was seating out back. It took 10 mins for our server to acknowledge us and ask for our drink order. Once our nachos were ready, our server told us she was running to the back to get them... 5 mins went by and she didn't bring them out. Another server ended up bringing it to the table. When our meal finally came out, one of our meals was missing. The 5 of us were incredibly frustrated at this point and we let them know. Our server came over and apologized and discounted our meals. It seemed like she was very busy but like I said, we couldn't tell if there were other tables that we couldn't see. The food was okay. Not bad. Not great. I had the grilled cheese. My friend said her burger was one of the best burgers she's ever had. The nachos were mediocre. 20% gratuity was Included in our bill, not sure if that is common practice or if it was added in knowing we weren't happy and they were nervous we wouldn't have tipped well. Last but not least, the bathroom was horrific. Two of my friends came out of the bathroom, completely disgusted. I decided I would hold it until we went somewhere else. What can I say, I really like this place. Despite hearing mixed reviews (even my partner gives me grief about going here) I go here all the time. Weird decor and a slightly strange layout aside, it's one of the best places to hole up on a cold winter night IMO. Sure, come for the great food (Pat LaFrieda burger? With avocado and bacon? Yes please!!!) but stick around and explore the extensive beer menu. Work the huge bottle list or, like me, just sample different taps. There's always a lively crowd here on weekends and often live music. That's your cue to wrap it up if you don't like loud music. The so-so acoustics tend to encourage performers to compensate with amps and it's often a bit of a mishmash. But if you don't mind that, pull up a stool and have a few beers and enjoy the evening in this bar of the gods. read more

My first time here and the absolute worst experience I've ever had at a bar. The staff here is the most unprofessional, snobby and rude people i have ever met. The guy Dave at the bar was extremely rude and stared me down as i finally left. After waiting at the bar watching all of them talk amongst themselves i was finally helped after 7 minutes. Then Dave decided to 'help' after struggling to get someone's attention was standoffish when i asked for chicken tenders, Dave rolled his eyes and aggressively grabbed the menu, slapped it down on the counter and then went through it to point out that they don't have it on the menu. Later on in the night i asked the pink haired girl just out of curiosity and they did have them which i stupidly ordered. So not only did they have them on the menu but the whole interaction was meaningless and ruined the vibe of the whole night. When i tried to ask for names for this post they told me no and the girl at the door grabbed my arm and aggressively asked if I'm trying to start a problem when i was just calmly asking for names. (I got his name when a friend who was still at the bar after I left asked him directly) All in all i should've never came to this establishment and absolutely should not have bought the chicken and given them any of my money. Always a great time here, whether you're just in to grab a drink and play some pool, or you want to sit down and have a nice dinner. The selection of food is great and so is the very friendly staff. They offer nice outdoor seating during the warmer months, but the indoor seating is very cozy and spacious as well. We booked a party recently of 20+ for my girlfriend's birthday and it was handled perfectly, seated upstairs with plenty of room and had excellent service. Got there. No one seated us. Had to find a waitress to get the menu. Food was ok. But the real kicker was that family and I paid our bill and happened to leave one of our bags behind by accident only to return 20 minutes to the restaurant to pick it up to find that not one employee at the whole restaurant saw the bag. Someone obviously saw it if they cleaned the table. Unless one of the employees ran away with it seeing as it had my sister's wallet, AirPods, and credit cards. Never going here again. read more
