I am so absolutely disgusted! I sat down to eat my food, I swallowed a fork full of rice when I saw something move over the filet mignon. I dropped my food when I realized the was a roach crawling on the meat. I kicked the box and the roach began crawling out from the gap. I took this picture To share with people before they go to this truck! I am so grossed out I have no idea whether or not I ate roaches. I brushed my teeth and gargled... I still feel dirty! Yuk!

This is chicken fried rice or just fried rice? Lol why is the chicken in literal not even cubes but slivers ??? It's mostly rice which would be fine if the chicken was actually normal size. Honestly the worker/owner whoever it is here also need wayyyyyy better customer service I know it's just a food truck but the two times I've been here now the customer service been hella sub par. Their fried rice is good but slightly salty & mad oil! It was $11 so I'm not thattttt upset but def not worth anymore than that.

"Steak" and three tiny pieces of lobster for $50... what a joke
    Chris G.

Does this look like a $50 meal to you? Lol. I waited 35 minutes for this on a Tuesday evening. It wasn't even busy. One person in front of me. I wished the saving grace was that it tasted good but the food was super bland on top of it being an already tiny portion (don't even think about coming here hungry). Three tiny pieces of lobster. None of the chefs or staff seemed like they wanted to be there. I hate this new trend in dtla with all of these overpriced bachi trucks, I've tried all of them and this one is probably the worst...

Salmon & shrimp plate. Substitute chicken fried rice

This was a bit of a disappointment. One because I've tried other hibachi places & also because I had high hopes. Their hours are late night, I got my food around 11-11:15 after a Clipper game Saturday. THEY DO NOT HAVE PHONE IN ORDERS, instead (I believe) they're on grub hub.... it wasn't bad but it was a few things that's made it lose two stars. I've been on record in my reviews of other restaurants that I don't like the tail on the shrimp.. it was 6 shrimps, all tailed. The salmon was tough like chicken. Crispppp boi. Aside from that, it was a pretty decent meal. They ARE flavorful, AND their garlic butter is really good, along with their sauce (idk what kind of sauce it is) and tbh their RICE itself was fire. Fire enough for them to have the business they had. It was about a 40 min wait, I don't think it was worth it. But I'm not stopping anyone from getting it again. 3 and a half stars if I could.... [I ordered 2 sides of fried rice and veggies along with my shrimp & salmon plate w/ chicken fried rice, my total was $57 flat]

There food is so amazing! The staff keep you informed throughout the whole waiting process. The food is cooked fresh and hot

Unfortunately, no part of the meal felt worthy of a special occasion, other than the 5 mins of magic & the presentation but that's it. Food was 3/10 Sadly, as foodies the meal did not justify the experience . Nearly every dish was overly salty, the medium steaks was overcooked, and the lobster was so chewy that three of the four lobster tails were left untouched. Horrifically the tried to serve us the wrong steak thinking we didn't know what filet looks like? Service 2/10 The service was disappointing. Our server seemed overwhelmed and even commented that we were asking too many questions, making us feel like an inconvenience. Was hard to find to her refills & I had to flag her down to bring and also pay our check. Dishonesty What concerned us most was being served the wrong cut of meat after paying extra for the filet and lobster upgrade. The chef was cooking us served skirt steak instead of filet. When I questioned it, the chef didn't apologize Instead, he told us he had "done us a favor" by giving us a bigger cut of meat" with attitude! substituting a different, less expensive cut without discussing it with us--after we had ordered an upgrade--was unacceptable. Even more disappointing, no manager ever came to our table to address the situation. My son also specifically requested plain fried rice with no vegetables, yet the chef cooked jf with vegetables. When he brought it to their attention, we were essentially told it had already been made and too bad he had to way which he didn't Overall 2/10 For a restaurant at this price point, we expected exceptional food, service, and attention to detail. Instead, we left disappointed, with our kids still hungry, and wishing we had celebrated at Yamato instead.

Once the whole party was seated & our order was taken, we received our delicious ginger salad and miso soup quickly. When our chef arrived he was ready to put on a show! The filet mignon is definitely worth it but if you prefer more meat, the sumo steak is the way to go. 3.5/5 Stars - Nice Experience, But Some Service and Timing Issues…read more We visited Tabi-Ji Teppanyaki for my husband's birthday and had an overall decent experience, though there were a few things that would make us think twice before returning. We chose the dining room seating rather than the teppanyaki tables. The staff did offer us the teppanyaki experience, but since we don't eat red meat or chicken from certain places and weren't sure how the food preparation process worked with mixed ingredients, we opted for a regular table instead. One downside was the seating arrangement. We were seated away from most of the other guests, and it often felt like the staff forgot we were there. Our original host/server was attentive and friendly, but once they were busy with other tasks, it became difficult to get assistance. It was also not busy for a Tuesday evening. We found ourselves waiting for long periods or having to wave someone down, which wasn't ideal, especially for a birthday dinner. As for the food: * Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll (4/5): Fresh, good quality fish, and a generous portion. A solid sushi roll. * Garlic Edamame (4/5): Flavorful and exactly what you'd expect from a good appetizer. * Lobster Duo with Miso Soup, Salad, and Fried Rice (3/5): Unfortunately, the lobster was quite chewy and seemed overcooked. The miso soup and fried rice were both enjoyable and helped make up for it. * Unagi Donburi (4/5): My husband's meal came with white rice, miso soup, salad, and fried rice. It was his first time trying eel, and he really enjoyed the soft texture and flavor. He said he'd definitely order it again. Our biggest disappointment was the timing of the food. The Unagi Donburi arrived significantly later than everything else. By the time it came out, we had already eaten most of the appetizers and other dishes and were pretty full. It's unfortunate because it seemed like a dish that would have been much better enjoyed fresh, but we ended up taking most of it home. Overall, the food ranged from good to very good, and being able to reserve through Resy and use our Amex dining benefit definitely helped offset the cost. However, considering the price point, we expected more attentive service and better pacing of the meal.

That said, with most dishes priced at over $20, I think there are stronger options nearby in Little Tokyo For a similar price, you can get a much more flavorful bowl of ramen that's also more filling. He always greeted us and made a point of checking in on the tables throughout the restaurant. He genuinely seemed to care about the customers and their experience. We noticed he was no longer there during our last few visits and found out he had moved to another location. We were bummed, but we continued coming because Shogun had been a family favorite for years. Unfortunately, our last two visits have completely changed how we feel about this restaurant. We came the first week of June to celebrate my son's graduation. We brought our two kids, along with our nieces and nephews, several of whom had never been before. We had talked up the experience so much, and the kids were incredibly excited. Instead, the music at our table did not work, and our chef did absolutely nothing besides stand there and cook. No interaction, no entertainment, nothing that makes a teppanyaki dinner feel special. I mentioned to management how disappointing it was, especially since we were there celebrating with five kids. I was told it was because the music was not working. What was frustrating was that they apparently already knew the music at that table was not working and still seated us there. We decided to give Shogun another chance this week for my son's 10th birthday. This time, we specifically asked to be seated where the music worked because we wanted to celebrate him and avoid what happened during our last visit. We were seated, served our soups, salads, and drinks, and then discovered the music at that table did not work either. We had to move to another table with all of our food and drinks. Then the chef arrived and, what do you know, the music stopped working again. We listened to the same 20-second portion of a techno song on repeat for the entire dinner. But the music was not the real problem. We realized it was the same chef we had during our graduation dinner, and unfortunately, I now believe this is simply how he does it. Music or no music, there was almost no effort to make the experience fun or engaging. He did not even do the simple things the kids look forward to, like the heart-shaped rice or the onion train. Meanwhile, the chef at the table next to us was still entertaining and engaging with his guests even without music. The difference was impossible not to notice. We had made it very clear that we were celebrating our son's 10th birthday. We waited after dinner for someone to sing to him, but nothing happened. We had already paid and were just sitting there waiting. My son was getting so tired he was starting to fall asleep at the table. Eventually, I had to get up and find someone to ask if they were going to sing to him. The service was also disappointing. Our server barely came by, and our drinks sat empty for a long time. We did not get refills until after the chef had already finished and left. We did not complain that night because it was our son's birthday, and we did not want to spend his celebration arguing or becoming even more frustrated. But after reading other recent reviews, it seems we are not the only longtime customers who feel Shogun is not what it once was. Ironically, before our graduation dinner in June, a friend told us he had recently gone and had an awful experience with his chef. He encouraged us not to go. We assumed he had just had bad luck, and because our son wanted to celebrate his graduation at Shogun, we went anyway. Unfortunately, we should have listened. The next time our kids ask for teppanyaki, we plan to give Benihana a try. I truly hope we have a better experience there. I would not recommend coming to this Shogun for a birthday, graduation, or special celebration right now. After two disappointing celebrations in a row, we left feeling frustrated instead of happy. I do want to mention that Shogun has one server who is absolutely amazing. If you are a regular, you probably know exactly who she is and how wonderful she is. Unfortunately, we did not have her during either of our last two visits. At this point, she would be the only reason we would consider returning, and only if we could be guaranteed a table in her section. After 10 years of being loyal customers, it is genuinely sad to feel this way about a place our family once loved.
