I'm originally from San Diego (by the border) so the Mexican food there is 10/10 and I've lived in LA for almost 6 years now, I'm barely finding anything that matches up. So lemme just say, this taco truck is definitely a place I'd go back to. Their California burrito (asada) I tried about two weeks ago and I'm coming back like every other day lol. I was here today and ordered 6 tacos, 3 with chorizo and 3 with carne asada. I was asked if I wanted everything on them, and I said no, just meat and cheese. I was charged $1 for extra cheese on my carne asada tacos, which I did not want or ask for, and for 6 plain tacos and a bottle of horchata, I paid $26. I was planning to leave a few dollars tip after I ate, but I only was able to eat 1 chorizo taco, and most of 1 carne asada taco, and drank a few mouthfuls of horchata, and I was done. The food tasted awful to me. Unseasoned carne asada and bad tasting chorizo. I didn't even know chorizo could taste bad! I tried eating just the carne asada meat, but because it was drowning in the unasked for extra cheese, I couldn't enjoy it. I didn't enjoy anything there, except the table and little seat I was at, and the fact that it was a short 10 minute walk home for me from there. I immediately gargled when I got into my bathroom. I would not recommend this place to anyone, but maybe me asking for my tacos to be plain was the issue? Perhaps with everything on the tacos, they taste good and flavorful then, but I don't know. I was in dtla with friends leaving a wedding reception late night and ran into this food truck. It was theeee best timing! Food was fresh, smelled delicious and we did not have to wait long. I got the alambre and a birria quesadilla. It was okay but more greasy than flavorful so only got halfway through the quesadilla before putting it in the fridge. Debating whether to finish it or not. My orders have been served hot and correct every time I have ordered. The menu is bonkers af with all the choices. Some highlights for me are... The California Burrito - an awesome asada style burrito with French fries wrapped up in it. Steak and fries in one burrito??? Definitely not for the small appetites. Do not wolf it down too quickly as you will be immobile for at least an hour afterwards. The holy trinity of fries: chili-cheese fries, asada fries or bacon-ranch fries. They're not special but it's nice to know you can order up an old friend as needed. Alambres the evolution of a Fajitas skillet. You eat your regular perfectly fine fajitas until the alambres appear with their similarity to fajitas but with a different cooking technique and you know you can't go back. The burritos and street tacos are the nums. As for ambience, it's a matter of taste. I personally like the urban DTLA aesthetic. Depending on the weather, you could end up in a pleasant conversation while waiting for your order or if you're lucky, you could end up in a pleasant conversation in someone's bedroom (just sayin'). Crazy Taco was my second taco stop of the day and for me easily ranked higher than my first at King Taco. Why? Because the meat was so well seasoned AND crispy. There was plenty of it too. Also next extra sautéed onions, just the garnish of cilantro and raw onions. Perfect! They also gave me a choice of salsa, verde o roja. My friend had the loaded nachos and those were very good as well. My one and only complaint was when I went back for my second round of tacos the lady put the salsa directly on the tacos first so they got just a little bit wet but the texture of the tortilla still managed to hold up. Fat woman working the window is rude. Will never order here again. Delegate the work. If someone is standing at the pick up line for five minutes without acknowledgment with 3 people in the truck and only ONE person (me) is in line (nobody else waiting or ordering.) . Tell the person at the pick up window to turn around. It takes two seconds to hand me my packaged food that's in plane sight. Food truck close to the Regent and open late. Came here for a post-concert hot dog as there weren't any street cart vendors. The hot dog still wasn't as good as a street cart, but it was passable. Cash only. There's no seating so most people took their food to go, but we stood at the corner to eat the food as fresh as possible. We ordered an al pastor burrito and a tacos dorado with a bottled water and it was $27, and it they also had the flip ipad screen so it asks for a tip too (i'm not against tipping mind you but you know its just the new thing, we did tip the guy, the cashier dude was actually cool, but the food still wasn't good but that isn't his fault). I know its inflation and all that and this does fill a niche so they can charge whatever they want. But OG FR FR NO CAP This place was NOT BUSSIN. The burrito was tiny AF, the hot sauces they gave us were neither tasty nor spicy. the beans were watery and had no salt The tacos dorados was a criminal, 4 fried out dried to hell and a little burnt rolled tacos, they were an abomination. Believe it or not in Venezuela, they would go RIGHT TO JAIL! I used to live in the building where their other truck parks outside of (9th St & Broadway). I loved that truck. The people in there were hella cool and down to earth. The food is good too. I was a pretty regular customer. But I recently moved to my current building, to learn that this truck also exists and parks right in front of my new building - what are the odds? So I ordered from here one night and the girl at the window was not approachable at all. She was short when talking to me, and it seemed like she didn't wanna be bothered with my order. At the other location, sour cream used to come in your tray. They stopped putting it in there, so once I noticed, I'd always ask for it at the pickup window (I didn't like to ask at the order window because sometimes they'd forget). Anyways they never gave me a problem about it. But I did the same thing here, and the girl just brashly said "it's a dollar" as if I was annoying her by asking. I never knew they started charging for it, but thought maybe the other location just gave it to me because I was a regular. Anyways, I told her I'd pay the $1, but I don't wanna wait in line again just to pay for a sour cream. I asked if she could take my payment at the pickup window and ring it up real quick. She sighed and said "is it cash or card?" I said card, at which point she said "well then it's gonna be another dollar upcharge for the card payment." I said just forget it at that point. I had already paid the upcharge when I paid for the rest of my meal, and I thought it was ridiculous that she couldn't just waive the credit card fee for the transaction since I was just adding a minor thing to my already-purchased order, that I already paid the fee for. From a customer service standpoint, she could've just given me the sour cream and told me that next time I need to order it at the window cause it's $1 extra. It is literally a dipping-cup size container of sour cream, and was acting as if I was adding a full-on second meal to my order. Although I have only great things to say about the other location on 9th St, I don't think I'll be coming back to this one, which sucks because it's literally parked right outside my apartment. The food is amazing for being a food truck, I actually prefer going to this truck over tacos Mexico which is just around on Broadway. This taco truck's food just has more flavor and they also offer a bigger selection when it comes to its menu. The best things: the California burrito for you meat eaters. That's what everyone seems to get and my friend only orders that from this truck. The huarache - it's really big and the flavor is pretty authentic. The veggie burrito - this veggie burrito hits the spot very time and is not soggy like other taco places nearby. Their nachos and the their nacho fries are great as well!
