    Tuna and Salmon Sashimi.

Thank goodness I needed to get some dry cleaning done, otherwise I wouldn't have seen this gem of a place right next door. I got seated at the sushi bar and we were given little appetizers to start off. I have no idea how to describe it but you'll just have to look at my photos. I got the Tuna and Salmon sashimi as well as the Sandy Special. The sashimi did their job, but the Sandy Special was quite the surprise. "It's a Poke Bowl on steroids!" as described by my wife. Honestly a very apt description. One of the staff members- either one of the owners or the head chef- even made time to walk around and talk to us, which was honestly really cool. Though more on the expensive side, their dishes makes sure it's always worth it.

Definitely our favorite teppanyaki spot to visit when we are in OC! we always sit at the teppanyaki grill and each time we've gone the food has been so good! Our chefs have always been the best and entertaining and definitely know what they're doing! The filet mignon, fried rice and their salad with the miso dressing is my favorite. I always look forward to date night when I know we're going here. Wish they had cocktails but other than that this place is amazing

Chefs personality was a 10 out of 10. Prices were about average. Proportions are honestly bigger than I thought they would be. And the flavor was 10 out of 10. The vibes were also a good 10 out of 10. I got to catch things in my mouth.

Family dinner for my cousin's birthday. We were all excited since we haven't been to a hibachi restaurant in years. Parking: There is a medium sized parking lot. Parking is easy to find. Ambiance/Environment: We visited during dinner time. There were a few other large families, so it wasn't too busy. They have table seating for ordering a la carte, but it might take longer to be seated if you want to have a hibachi experience. The decor is nice, and the tables and chairs are also clean. Perfect spot for large families or a date night. They do take walk-ups, but reservations are highly recommended. Service: Shout out to our chef Jose and server Patricia. Chef Jose was very interactive throughout the experience. He made it very fun. Patricia made sure our waters were filled and checked on us multiple times. Some bussers could work on their etiquette bc one busser rudely reached over my cousin and I without announcing himself to clear our empty plates. Foods: Each of us ordered something different. Each of us ordered almost one of each protein. My cousin ordered the filet mignon and lobster. My other cousins ordered steak and Lemon Garlic Hibachi Chicken. I ordered the Tab-Ji Trio which included filet mignon, chicken breast, and shrimp. We opted in for fried rice for an additional $. The fried rice was cooked and seasoned well. The lobster tail looked small, but it was filling enough. The chef seasoned it with a generous amount of butter. I ordered the filet mignon medium rare, and that's exactly what I got. It was very tender and delicious. The chicken and shrimp tasted as expected. Both were cooked well. My cousins also enjoyed their lemon garlic chicken. Some pieces need more seasoning, and the chef was nice enough to squeeze more lemon. Pricing: Prices are as expected $$$ for this experience. We enjoyed our hibachi dinner. The food was delicious with great ambiance and exceptional service.

It was my wife's and I first time here and it won't be our last! Everything from the food to the service was amazing! The beer tasted so good and cold and the cook was great just the lobster tail wasn't the best. Besides that we were super impressed by this place!

I ordered the Nigiri, salmon, unagi, toro. It was absolutely delicious and the portions were amazing. The chef also gave me more sushi on the house. I had warm sake with it all and it created such a warm and peaceful ambiance, I would definitely recommend to anyone to try this place out!

Fresh sushi and very good teppanyaki. Me and my Brother ordered two rolls the Tabiji roll and the Lollipop roll with an order of mackerel nigiri sushi and all three were fresh and delicious. My Brother also ordered beef teriyaki and I ordered chicken teriyaki both were delicious and tip, get fried rice it is delicious. Great decor nice clean restaurant and friendly staff.

I decided to give Tabi-Ji a try for dinner during a work trip, and it exceeded expectations despite the restaurant being quiet at 7:30 PM. We had made reservations for 8:30 but surprised we weren't able to get a table at 7:30. Based on the restaurant's positive reviews, we decided to give it a try--and it didn't disappoint. My colleague and I chose the hibachi grill experience and were entertained by our chef who prepared our meals to perfection. Our meals started with salads served with ginger and sweet dressings on the side, both of which were delicious. The chicken broth soup was equally flavorful. I ordered the steak and shrimp combination with extra fried rice, and the portions were generous and satisfying. They meals came with a shrimp appetizer. Along with the entree, vegetables were also grilled and served. Overall, I highly recommend Tabi-Ji for its great food. I would like to visit again and try their sushi menu.

Okay food, except lollipop roll was pretty good. The "show" was meh but A for effort on the chef's part. The service, what service? Drinks never got refilled and I felt like I was at Home Depot, searching for worker to ask for napkins or fork.

We came back for Valentine's Day and despite it being pretty busy we received amazing service and the food and sake were great! It was so good that I devoured my entire meal and forgot to take any pics. I ordered the beef teriyaki, shrimp tempura and sashimi combo. The steak was so tender and juicy and my whole meal was just as fantastic as the first visit. This time I tried the ocean crunch roll and it was crispy and delicious! I ordered hot sake and it was perfect with my meal. Thank you also to the host that is so friendly and he really does a great job and gives percent. This was a great way to spend Valentine's Day!

Great experience for the whole family celebrating my son's birthday. The chef was very creative.

Not only was the crabs a lie, the establishment under a Japanese pseudo name, is actually ran by the Chinese. Fortunately, it was easy to locate the exit. Honda-Ya has officially become one of my favorite places to explore Japanese izakaya-style dining…read more The night started with the Mushroom Trio Butter, and we added truffle sauce. I didn't know it at the time, but this would end up being the best dish of the night. The mushrooms were perfectly sautéed and the truffle took everything to another level. An incredible way to kick off dinner. Next came the potato salad, which was a refreshing, chilled dish that balanced everything else we ordered. Then the beef tataki arrived. Thin slices of tender, perfectly seared beef served cold. It was simple, clean, and absolutely delicious. Our first round of skewers came alongside the Gindara (sweet miso black cod). I started with the miso pork belly skewer, and the flavor was unlike anything I've had before. Rich, savory, and incredibly satisfying. Now, I'm still on my journey of learning to enjoy seafood. My girlfriend has made it her mission to expand my palate, so she insisted we order the Gindara. She told me it was non-negotiable. I gave it an honest shot and managed a few bites, but the fishy flavor is still something I'm working on. She absolutely loved it though, so I know it was a great recommendation for seafood fans. After that I moved on to the Japanese beef skewers, which were incredibly tender and practically slid right off the stick. Just when we thought we were done, I made one last audible and ordered two more skewers: the chicken breast with yuzu pepper and the pork cheek. Best decision of the night. The chicken surprised me with an awesome kick from the yuzu pepper. Juicy, flavorful, and much spicier than I expected. In the best way possible. Then came the pork cheek. That single skewer became my favorite bite of the entire evening. The crispy edges, the savory saltiness, and the tenderness instantly reminded me of the pork chops my dad used to make when I was a kid. Food doesn't often bring back memories that vividly, but this one did. That nostalgic feeling made it the perfect ending to an already fantastic meal. If you're looking for a place where you can order a variety of small plates and experience new flavors, Honda-Ya is absolutely worth a visit. I'll definitely be back. Especially for those mushrooms and that pork cheek.
