After seeing photos of the Eckington's Pizza from Bacio Pizzeria on IG, I decided to take a drive all the way from Alexandria, VA, across the bridge, to try it for myself. Big mistake. I arrived and was seated in the upstairs portion of the pizzeria. I wasn't asked or given much choice on where I'd prefer to sit. To me, upstairs was very cramped and small with not a lot of space for people to move around. But, I figured it was better than sitting outside. Also, the restroom was literally right behind my chair. So, people kept scooting directly in back of me to go into the restroom. All that restroom air being pushed out everytime the door opened and closed. But I didn't complain. My server was busy. At first, I gave him the benefit of the doubt because I know how it is me being a former server and all. He took my order within about 10 minutes or so, which wasn't too bad. My food came out in a fairly decent amount of time. The pizza was good but it wasn't great. I've made better pizzas at home in my own kitchen. It was lacking flavor and the toppings were sparse. It didn't really look like the pizza I saw on IG, and that photo I saw wasn't from a food blogger or critic either. I just figured maybe it didn't look as good because I got the Small 10" and maybe the one in the photo was the 14" Large. I thought maybe the size had something to do with it. So, I sucked it up and I was going to pay my check and leave with no complaints and leave in peace. Until...it took over 20 minutes to receive my check. So, I initially sat for about 15 minutes quietly while my server zipped right past my table. Finally, he stopped and asked me "Would you like anything else?" and I told him "No thank you, you can bring the check, please". He left like he was going to get my check but instead when he came back he just went to the other table to take their order. So, I waited for another 5 minutes before another staff member saw me waiting patiently and asked "Is everything okay?" and I told him that I was just waiting for my check. He said he would bring me my check. Another person (not my server) ended up bringing me my check. I open the check and they already added on 18% gratuity to the bill. I usually wouldn't have a problem with that, if I wasn't a party of one and if it was on the menu. It wasn't listed anywhere and it was unusual that they would add gratuity for a party of one. This made me wonder if everyone was charged this automatic gratuity or just me. Before it took over 20 minutes to get my check, I was actually going to tip the server more than 18% because I was giving him the benefit of the doubt. So, to add it on the bill was offensive, in my opinion. Especially because my server was not the one to bring the food to my table or give me my check. So, I basically was tipping him for taking my order and that's all. The manager did stop by to ask if everything was okay. Not sure how he could tell because I don't usually wear my emotions on my face. I told him about the situation and he did offer me dessert or a drink. He at least seemed to try to make it right. At the end of the day, there were way too many things that went wrong to give them anything higher than one star. From the poor seating location, to the unattentive server, to the mediocre pizza that I thought was going to be great, to waiting over 20 minutes for my check, and then being charged 18% gratuity for it all. read more

Dinner here was real solid, would totally order this pizza again. It's not heavy and has some great crispy crust. The only disappointment were the options, ended up just going with margherita because none of the other options really stood out. Visiting Bacio's from NYC. The pizza menu is a bit limited in range of toppings, but we made a custom pizza that was pretty good. The meatballs were ok, lacking seasoning in my opinion. I always order a pizza (usually Randolph Place) and salad at Bacio. The pizza is excellent! It is an ideal compromise between big, cheap takeout pizzas (e.g. Duccini's) and small, expensive gourmet ones (e.g. All Purpose). You get terrific quality and leftovers at a reasonable price. We are spoiled for choice when it comes to good pizza, but we always come back to Bacio. It's the best of the bunch. read more

Not a bad spot for a quick takeout pizza. This is a higher quality version of delivery. Pizza is decent, is ready quick, and price is fine. I loved my pesto pizza with sausage. The sausage comes in thick slices of an Italian sausage. The pepperoni wasn't as good - too thin and got lost under the cheese. Mozzarella sticks are ok (I'm sure much better fresh though - lukewarm by the time we walked home) They have a two large 1 topping deal for $25 and some others as well - check the website. It says one large would feed two, but maybe I eat a lot because I had to stop myself from eating an entire pie myself. read more

Great food, great drinks, great time! My friends and I came for happy hour and really enjoyed ourselves. $8 for a great cocktail is he's to beat, and the mojito was very refreshing. The selection of happy hour appetizers was good too, and priced well. We also had the Coppa Three Chocolate for dessert and it was delicious. All in all, we had a great time! The only thing worse than their mediocre pizza is their delivery vehicles and pick-up customers always parked in the alley. Cute patio, bad pizza, horrible neighbors. Might as well turn this place back in to a pet food store like it was previously as it serves the same processed fare. read more

Nice little place tucked into the neighborhood. We got 4 different pizzas - two with vegan cheese and everyone enjoyed their meal. Very charming interior - not so close to other diners that we couldn't enjoy our own conversation. We did have an issue with our bill that went unnoticed until after we left but management was very responsive and went beyond to make it right. This is one of my favorite DC pizza spots. It's excellent for carry out! Their crust is "regular", in that it isn't too thin or too thick. They have a wide variety of toppings and their Bacio Creations Pizzas are delicious. I'm fond of the Crispus Attucks (no mushrooms) and the Margherita. You can also create your own pie with cool toppings like Gorgonzola, caramelized onions, and vegan cheese. I also love their desserts, especially the tiramisu and chocolate mousse. I was about to walk out when finally someone must have seen I was unhappy, and asked if I had been helped...I would assume they should have a system to know who's tables are which waitress, or something to prevent ever having to ask that question. Dat calzone. My boyfriend, who rarely spends money on restaurants and is hard pressed to spend money on food beyond basic caloric needs for survival, suggested this place. The fact that he made a suggestion made me realize how special this place must be so I immediately consented despite my lactose intolerance and general opinion that most pizza is overrated (except for Arturo's and buddy's pizza, papa bless.) Indeed it was. Larger than the size of his enormous bobble head, it had a generous portion of fresh buffalo mozz and the toppings were just perfectly cooked and spiced. Yeah, buddy. This is the best possible definition of mutually assured destruction. A small pizza gets demolished in one carryout sitting and in turn my waistline is destroyed for a few hours. Totally worth the bloat. Seaton was a tasty combination that I'd invest in for a repeat performance: plentiful roasted red peppers, a couple chopped cherry tomatoes, and pockets of prosciutto layered under molten mozzarella. Pesto saucing was perhaps a bit light for my taste, over a regular crust that was surprisingly thin and crispy. Not boring enough to leave carbs behind. Bacio Pizzeria serves up some delicious pizza! You can select your own toppings or choose one of their creations. $2.00 per topping. I went with the Common Good, a nice hand-tossed pizza, which consists of mushrooms, caramelized onions, cherry tomatoes, and green peppers. It was a very satisfying pizza. Not the best pizza I've had, but still a pretty darn good pie! The ingredients were fresh and the crust was great. I wish it had a little more toppings though. A large can be shared among two or three people. They also have salads and calzones. I was too full to try any of their desserts. When you first walk in, you think it's just a carry-out pizza joint with limited outdoor seating, but they do have an upstairs area with full service. They have a small bar too! The dining area has really cute decor and has a nice cozy atmosphere. Most of the tables fit 2-4 people. Their wagon wheel table fits maybe 6. Not a great option for large groups. There is street parking, wherever you can find it. It's not in the most ideal location. There is not much else around and it's out of the way. Bloomingdale is pretty much a residential area. *They have to-go specials, mainly for one-topping pizzas! You're basically just getting a free topping on a pizza, but not bad if you don't want that many toppings on your pizza. read more

Every time I want to take my family/ friends to a special place, I make sure to bring them to Baccio! The service is fantastic (the manager is amazing - she comes to each table, to check with the costumers if everything is going great). The calzone (any of them, but my fav is the #1) is so delicious and has a great size! I also recommend the Bacio's Margherita pizza!!!! Quarantine Content! We've had dine in a Bacio on a few occasions since we live in the neighborhood. We are trying to support our small local spots (that we enjoy, of course) and tonight decided to try carry out Bacio. I love the cornmeal crust that comes on all the pizza options and my personal favorite is the Margherita Pizza with pepperoni! Take out experience was great and pick up experience was a nice and easy contactless situation. They allow one person in to pick up at a time which they are good about enforcing. They also have an external pickup window outside for, I'm assuming, when they have walk up orders. Overall great experience and I look forward to their stiff drinks at dinner soon! read more
