I used to be a regular here and the atmosphere is good with some very good bartenders, who are both attentive and friendly. Unfortunately, I had to end my patronage abruptly after I was harassed and intimidated by the manager completely unprovoked on a particular occasion and I like to stay as far as possible from that kind of behaviour. I have no idea if he was drunk, hungover or just out of their mind- because it not only seemed completely out of the blue and uncharacteristic but what he said made almost no sense in context. Im not really sure what transpired, but considering managers are the only source of grievance redressal for most customers, someone in a managerial position acting this way is a major red flag for me. It's quite a shame though, it's a good place and I'm a good customer who likes to promote and stay loyal to establishments with good service. read more

I went here soley on the review of another yelper to try there New England Clam Chowder. There review- The chowder is cream based, with rich and savory but balanced flavors. The key to any excellent soup/chowder is the base or broth + fresh ingredients- Although seemingly simplistic, the heartiness of this chowder is also excellent. Detective Mike here and I will say the broth was the lightest of all the chowders I tried in Boston. The flavor was simplistic with a hint of spice and sweetness to it all at once. Clams you could tell tasted very fresh. All in all it was a very good soup but on my quest to find the perfect chowder it failed as I am looking for an extremely thick chowder filled with seafood in every bite...do you exist perfect chowder will I find you? The search continues. Meat Candy - Kielbasa, pineapple, and pineapple glaze. Too sweet for me. We ordered this to go along with the preztel sticks. Did not end up finishing either of the appetizers. If your looking to come here I would recommend coming after 11:30am on the weekend to enjoy there one dollar oyster special. Detective Mike on the other hand will not be back. Found Back Bay Social. Social it was at 9 PM! Packed. Started with the chowda. Hit the spot. Not overly creamy thick which i prefer. Then went with a lobster roll. Really liked it. Similar to the soup. Simple goodness A lemon mayo and a little squeezed lemon on top. I usually skip the fries but in my rush didn't pay attention. I am so sad I have to write this review after being so excited to visit this place while in Boston for vacations. We had a reservation for four people, sat down as we wanted in the patio, it was so beautiful out there. So sad that the place has a prime location in Back Bay, at a main street and it counts with that terrible service. It took at least 20 minutes to be greeted, but we understood they might be busy, but they weren't, not in the patio nor inside. They finally took our drinks order, passed 25 minutes and nothing happened with our drinks. We started noticing that none of the tables around us had nothing served but water... same as us. Finally brought our drinks, all disgusting, mediocre, but okay we let it go and order different drinks immediately ... other 25 minutes went by and we didn't receive our other drinks, none of the tables around either. I mean what's wrong with this place? I had to go in and try to find someone to tell them that we were so unhappy and that we wanted to leave, so I was about to pay for whatever we 'were served' and they weren't even been able to find our order in the system, which makes me think that they never put the order in (?) Finally the comp the check, which I think it was the way to go. I normally don't go for fancier pizza toppings but the balsamic paired with arugula, prosciutto, and thinly sliced apples was a match made in heaven. Fun little spot in the Back Bay if you're staying in one of the hotels here and want to stumble back home. We got there around 9pm and it was busy, but not crowded. We closed down the place just before 2:30am (read: we never felt the need to bar hop for a change of scenery). I did order the 10 piece hot wings as a snack & they were fried to crispy delicious perfection with the sauces on the side. Service was prompt, friendly & professional! There is a downstairs area (stairs are just to the right of the entrance) where the restrooms are, and a separate bar area, so if you had a big group you could hang down there as well. Great pub atmosphere inside with lovely small white umbrella-covered seating area out front, good food and good service. It's a solid choice! read more

Went to a comedy show in the basement. It was not funny. I ordered a burrito bowl too and it came with corn and beans from a can, red peppers from a jar, a huge wad of sour cream, some rice (the only edible part of the meal) and some browning guacamole that tasted like it was starting to spoil. Overall I would not recommend going here and would not come back. I would consider going just to get a drink (no food) and staying upstairs to socialize. And the serving is huge, we both were full on the app. Now for the part of the review you're waiting for...the drinks! We tried their frozé, yes you read that right. They have frozé, it was AMAZING. It had rum and wine and was perfectly blended, I literally realized they have a slushee machine for it. We also tried the Pina colada which was so creamy and blended perfectly. I love the atmosphere in this restaurant, it's definitely lively and busy here. The customer service we received was phenomenal!!! They were very attentive and on top of a few mistakes the kitchen had made; they kept coming to the table and refilling water, asking if there was anything else they could do and very apologetic about the mistakes. As for the food, it was decent... Definitely not the best food I have tasted better. Also a little pricey for the taste. I ordered the fish and chips and they didn't charge extra for substituting my French fries for sweet potato fries, it was good. My fiancé ordered the social sport burger, she said it was very good, but it cost $25.00 ($23.00 + $2.00 for bacon). I feel like that is a bit pricey, no? 2 stars for the wonderful, wonderful service and décor. I suppose it's a wonderful place to socialize, but as a die-hard yelper most of my reviews revolve around the actual food. The drinks were quite delicious - I ordered the Back Bay Sour and it was an interesting concoction of red wine float etc, but had hardly any alcoholic content (not sure how much it cost but was probably around $15 range). We ordered cheese/meat plates for the table, which I thought was incredibly overpriced ($25 for 5 total meats and cheeses). We ordered each meat and cheese, and the boards were so tiny for $50! Taco Tuesday was great - $1 tacos all night if you have a student ID. The actual food was way too salty. I ordered mussels and they didn't come with bread, just salty fries. The mussels themselves were plump, but super salty - and I couldn't take advantage of the sauce because no bread. French Onion Soup wasn't salty, but very bland. I actually became too bloated from the salt to try the taco - I brought the taco home for my fiancé to eat and he mentioned it was super salty as well! read more

We were in town for a training at the Hynes Convention Center (directly across the street, super convenient!) with a group of 16. Reservations were easy, I even got a confirmation email a day in advance to confirm. I loved the organization! Our reservation was at 11:45, we showed up a few minutes early and our table was ready! I love that! The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is how super close the other table was to us, and we were only given 14 spots. There were only 7 chairs, so one has to assume on the bench side there was only enough room for 7 people. Sadly there was no room for our other 2 girls with no option for another table or chairs to be added. Now for the good things! Great bloody mary. Very organized waitstaff made ordering easy, food came out seamlessly, and she even did separate checks without having to be asked! I came here with a large group. Food was decent and service was friendly. We all started with the Caesar salad and had our choice of entrees. I chose the steak frites prepared medium. The dish was served with a generous portion of steak and a dollop of goat cheese (I would have enjoyed this more if I was actually a fan of goat cheese) as well as a hearty serving of french fries. I enjoyed the flavor of the Bloody Mary mix but the mix to vodka ratio was a bit much for me (too much mix in my opinion). The avocado toast was mostly arugula with a minimal spread of avocado. All of the eggs in the dishes were cooked nicely (poached and over easy). Lastly I ordered a michelada and it costed $15 which is way more than I've ever paid for a michelada, aside from maybe at a sporting event. The watermelon tequila was basically tequila, which would be good for some people but I wanted the watermelon taste. Overall the portions were average and food was slightly below average. There are two burgers on the menu at Back Bay Social Club. 1. Grass Fed Hamburger. $14. 2. Social Burger. $23. What is this magical burger worth an extra $7 on top of an already pricey burger? Is it simply much larger, and thus sharable (social)? Will it change my life? I had to know. Upon being asked, our server explained that the beef is dry-aged and of a higher quality...which I suppose makes sense, but was a bit less exciting than I had hoped. Would it taste better? Is it worth the money? I had to know. But what if they just gave me a regular burger, and told me it was the Social Burger? How would I be able to tell? So I ordered both burgers, just to be sure. I had to know. Well, I can report that both burgers on the Back Bay Social Club menu are excellent, and you can absolutely tell the difference in the quality of the beef. The Social Burger is a bit richer, a bit funkier. The Grass Fed burger is quite good though, and I don't think any burger enthusiasts will be disappointed in either decision. In fact, had everyone at our table ordered burgers (and their very solid clam chowder), I think there would be love and happiness all over the world. Unfortunately, the lobster benedict lacked sufficient lobster, an omelette was underwhelming, and the pizza is just not great. It's so nice to be able to get pumpkin & squash related items in the fall. My friend & I started w/ the brussels sprouts w/ out any meat & they were super delicious as were the the pretzel bites. I was pretty impressed w/ the butternut squash ravioli w/ spinach. It was really the main reason why we decided to come here to eat & being able to outside during covid was really great. My friend also really enjoyed his steak bowl. We ended up splitting the chocolate cake & that was simply delicious. The service was great, server was friendly & helpful. When I went back on a separate occasion for dinner, however, I was not impressed. Me and my friends had dinner meals that tasted like they came out the freezer. I came here for dinner one night during the week to catch up with some old friends. We were seated at a circular booth near the back of the restaurant, which was great because it gave the whole experience an intimate vibe and allowed us to converse openly without having to worry about disturbing or being disturbed by those enjoying their meals around us. I ordered what I assume is their signature house cocktail, the "Social Smash," which was a crisp, buzzy drink with just the right amount of whiskey kick. (I also had a taste of "The Spicy One" and that had a real kick!) We ordered the halloumi and watermelon, which was a tasty, refreshing appetizer, but the real star of the night was the chicken & waffles "special" entree (which our server informed us is now available every day)! The flaky, buttery waffle and 2 large pieces of tender fried chicken were complemented perfectly with the zesty BBQ dipping sauce. The portion was rather large--maybe large enough to share--but I left feeling completely satisfied and full for the rest of the night. The waitstaff was incredibly attentive throughout our entire meal, and very amenable in offering food, beer and cocktail suggestions. Overall, Back Bay Social Club provided our group a hassle-free, enjoyable evening with great food and exceptional service. I'm thinking this place may become my new go-to dinner spot! read more

I know restaurants can have off days, but the fact that he is trying to make it right is amazing. The espresso martini I had was really good. So we may have to come back to Boston to get martinis on the house and give it another shot. The manager was kind enough to charge our card to the wrong meal, gave our CC back to the wrong table. The waiter had no idea someone had gave us our check in the first place. So when he brought our check, we were confused of where our card went in the first place, since we have already paid. We witnessed the staff member that gave us the original check go to another table and pick up our card & refuse to admit he made a mistake in the first place. I had the opportunity to have lunch here and it's restaurant week,where they have the original menu and a special menu for restaurants week with unique deals, I had the 1/2 Chicken and Waffles from the special menu, as my entree, I had the ceasar salad as my first course, which was actually a nice I also ordered a starter of the buffalo wings which were tasty. My lunch guess ordered the Pastrami on Rye which came with French fries that were just mediocre, the notes they made about the sandwich was good, however, Let's talk Chicken and waffles.. they were actually very good, the sauce that came with it was ok, I did enjoy a specialty drink that they had on the menu a lavender sparkling something which was very tasty and flavorful that I had two . I would definitely recommend this place, for food the only downside was they didn't have soap in the ladies room, I am glad I carry my own hand sanitizer.
