Bartender was knowledgeable on food and attentive when I wanted them but also considerately left me alone to enjoy my meal without trying to push any items onto me. Meal itself was unfortunately a bit lackluster. It was well prepared and presented but lacked flavor. For instance, I ordered the lamb and harissa pasta but couldn't have told you it had either lamb or harissa unless you had told me. Same theme was writ large across whole meal. Chic atmosphere with Mediterranean inspired dishes. The chickpea fries with spicy aioli and crispy fried chicken seasoned with za'atar and a tzatziki like sauce for dipping were out of this world! The Asian pear salad with burrata was light and fresh. We also tried the wagyu bolognese and spinach and feta gnudi, both so flavorful and perfectly prepared. For dessert we had the chocolate semifreddo with caramel and halva pieces. Such a delicious combination of flavors. Was slightly intimidated by the menu before we came but absolutely fell in love with this place. Huge with ample seating and extremely friendly staff. The cocktail menu is very creative and straight to the point- no ice or bs fillers. What we ordered: - Chickpea French fries: 5/5, Four large french fries with a spicy aioli. Service started strong and then faded through the night but what really surprised us were the dishes. While we were excited to try the staples, they fell short on taste and quality. I'm in Boston several times a year for work, and I almost always manage to make it to Chickadee. The food is always fantastic, really interesting and flavorful dishes - and *really* fantastic cocktails. I usually sit at the bar where the bartenders give great service, and the vibe of the place is really chic, it's in a bit of a strange location for an evening restaurant, but worth your trek there. This past time, I got their summer prix fixe and it was a great deal! I got a delicious appetizer, main and desert for barely more than the main alone costs. We were seated right away and our server had some great suggestions on what to order and how much (shareable plates). I'd met a bartender who worked here before, and the drinks did not disappoint - best Penicillin I've had in a long time! We had the chickpea fries (so interesting and tasty!), the asparagus fattoush (think Mediterranean / middle eastern style salad, excellent) and the fried chicken (with mint zatar spices!) for apps - they were all outstanding but the chicken stole the show there. We could have ordered 3 more plates of that and been very happy. But I'm glad we didn't, because.... We ordered the squid ink pasta and bolognese pasta dishes as well. Oh. My. Gosh. Both were delicious but that squid ink pasta! Not overly briny or fishy and the calamari in the dish was amazingly tender and flavorful! We opted to try dessert rather than another bar bev, and I'm glad we did! We had the chocolate semifreddo which was incredible. But the overall winner of the night was the Maine blueberry tart. Had such a nice brunch this weekend at Chickadee! We sat outside and loved the vibe. Inside seating is modern, bright and cozy. Service was honestly 10 stars, everyone was so warm and attentive. The food was creative and delicious: the blueberry fritter was a must, not overly sweet. I just wish it came to the table warm. The grilled asparagus fattoush was fresh and flavorful, a little too tangy for my husband but I loved it. My toddler scarfed down the asparagus, it was so well cooked. I need to learn from the chef how to cook asparagus because my kid doesn't eat it when I cook it :) The crispy chicken pita hit the spot, and the hash browns were perfectly crisp. The cheddar harissa biscuits had a nice flavor too. The only thing I wished was that the chicken pita used a thigh piece and had a little more flavor or dressing/sauce to tie it together. This restaurant had high highs and low lows. I really wanted to like it, and maybe I'd give them another chance, but this visit just wasn't it. Beet Tzatziki: Tzatziki was tasty. Pita bread was below average. Can't even be in the same conversation as a place like Sarma. Crispy Fried Chicken: This was the best dish we had. Perfectly seasoned and marinated. We loved the toum underneath - it complemented the chicken so well. The meat was very tender inside. Definitely a must-order. Squid Ink Fusili: The first few bites are delicious. Lots of great umami, good noodles, complemented by some crunch from the bread crumbs. Then it gets progressively worse. This dish is a SALT MINE. By the time we finished, I was desperate for more water. We told the waiter about it, but they told us to ask for less salt and less bread crumbs next time. I have been to Chickadee a number of times over the years and consider it among Boston's more elegant higher-end dining options. The space is modern and refined, mirroring the food, and service is excellent. The menu is somewhat eclectic with good range of options, dish sizes and flavors. The mezze is a great option for a light snack with drinks before moving into the main meal and the chickpea panisse fries are also necessary ordering in this regard. They used to have a fantastic fried chicken dinner entree but more recently that has been revised to a hearty appetizer (still very tasty if not on the crispier end). Their truffle malfaldine was phenomenal - rich, creamy and unctuous - packed with truffle and mushroom flavor. Despite being a little out of the way on the far edge of the Seaport, definitely worth a visit for a true Boston foodie. read more

Chickadee was a James Beard award semifinalist, and I was staying super close by, so I had to drop in for dinner. This was actually my second dinner of the night, so I had to go a little lighter. There were actually quite a few other solo diners at the bar, which was nice! Drinks: - Cosmonaut milk punch: a clean, gin based clarified milk punch - Twelve Partridges: rum based, tiki but not too sweet, well rounded with their own spiced pear puree and bitters - this drink hit the spot They offer a $70 pre fixe, which had a mezze, starter, second course, and dessert, but I couldn't handle another full meal. I had read about their lobster campanelle being a staple on the dish. For years, one of my favorite dishes was the lobster campanelle from Lure + Till in Palo Alto (now long closed), and I was so sad I couldn't get in anymore. Once they set this dish down for me, it was clear why it's been a menu staple. You can smell the lobster immediately, and the lobster essence is just fragrant and wonderful through every bite of the dish. Also, the pasta texture was great. The dish was so good, I almost lost track of my cocktails! Chickadee is in a really cool space in this design block, the bartender/server was knowledgeable and friendly, and between the cocktails and that lobster pasta, this was my ideal dinner. I will definitely be back to try more of their other dishes (and get the lobster campanelle) next time I'm in Boston! read more

Chickadee is an absolute gem, when I'm in town I try to add it to my list. From start to finish, my meal was outstanding. I started with the tzatziki fries, which were crisp, tangy, and addictive. The marinated olives with pita were simple but beautifully done; the olives were bursting with flavor and the pita was warm and pillowy. The grilled carrot salad was a standout, perfectly charred carrots paired with bright, herbaceous notes that made the dish feel both fresh and satisfying. But the real showstopper was the truffle lumache, rich and perfectly al dente. It was indulgent without being overwhelming. I also had the milk punch, which was incredibly well-balanced, refreshing, smooth, and the ideal complement to the meal. The fried chicken does come in smaller portions now but none of the biscuits. I sat at the bar. I started with an appetizer with the toasty bread. The homemade spread combined with strawberries were an interesting combo. I tried it and loved it. It's great for 2 people but I had both to myself. We came here after a volleyball tournament nearby . It was late and we wanted to grab dinner with our son and this place came up as a suggestion. Book ahead as it can get crowded fast. Small place so seatings were close . We tried the dipping platter that comes with all the Mediterranean dips and some warm pita. It was delicious ! The carrot salad was really yummy . The wine list is also quite strong, I recommend trying their skin-contact wines when they have some by the glass. It's a small restaurant with chic decorations, so a great spot for date night or grabbing a glass of wine with a friend. I was in town for a conference in the Seaport and wanted to find an outstanding restaurant for my first meal. After reviewing several sites, plus Yelp, I selected Chickadee. What caught my attention was several of the principals had worked at Barbara Lynch's No 9 Park and Chickadee's amazing 4.5 score on Yelp. It's self-described as a New England-born and Mediterranean-inspired restaurant. There were plenty of reservations available mid-afternoon Tuesday on Resy, which I found surprising for a great restaurant. I selected a 6pm reservation. Having read an extensive review of Chickadee in Boston Magazine, I was ready to order quickly. I started with two signatures: the Smoked Sea Trout Dip and the Crispy Hen of the Woods. The Trout is buried under a layer of light hollandaise-like sauce. The Hen of the Woods mushrooms look like a crazy Bloomin' Onion atop a thick puree of potatoes, walnuts and garlic. Both were excellent and so unique. I was debating between the Spring Onion Spetzle or the Lobster Campanelle pasta. I asked Santiago, my server, which I should pick and he suggested the Lobster. He said the Lobster is somewhat spicy, with Calabrian chili. I asked for it to be served on the side. I can't put my finger on what I disliked about the pasta. It was bland. And the chili sauce was too spicy to be added. You'd think with lobster, it had to be good. I ate about a quarter of my plate and it just wasn't working for me. I set the dish aside and waited for Santiago's return. He asked me if I wanted to box it, and I said no. What I found odd is why he wouldn't have asked if there was an issue with the pasta. But since he didn't ask me, he'll need to read this review. After two amazing starters, I was disappointed with my entrée. As I walked out, the two managers thanked me for visiting, but didn't ask how my meal was. I don't know what would have happened if I told Santiago I didn't like the pasta. Ditto for the managers. Maybe they would have found some accommodation. Regardless, I tipped Santiago 20% and called it a night. I was in the restaurant for one hour. read more

Quite possibly one of our favorite restaurants in Boston. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The chef makes magic happen with mixing flavors and ingredients that you may not expect, but leave you wanting more. We started with their mezzo dips, served with warm homemade pitas. Each were so unique and flavorful, my favorite was the beet tzatziki, topped with fresh dill, so good! We then had my favorite fried chicken ever, their Crispy Fried Chicken. It was seasoned exceptionally, and had a flavorful contrasting, delightful cream sauce, I wanted more, but we still had our entrees coming. Between the 3 of us, we ordered the Farro Risotto, Black Truffle Mafaldine & the Handmade Ricotta Gnudi. We each sampled each other's plates and couldn't decide which was the best dish (they were all delish). We have yet to save room for dessert, but maybe next visit. A short ride from Logan Airport, it's the perfect place to dine before or after a flight. No need to pay for parking, or to try and find a parking spot is a bonus! We will be back! read more

I've had Chickadee bookmarked for sometime and finally got a chance to go to celebrate my friend's birthday. It was very easy to find parking at the Innovation Building and we walked into the open ,modern and well-designed dining room with a small look into the kitchen. Our party of four was seated promptly and we ordered their Chickpea Panisse Fries and Bluefin Tuna as appetizers, both were delicious. For an entree, I chose the Duck Three Ways, which included a crispy duck breast, arroz de pato and linguica. This dish was balanced with a pineapple chile and cilantro mixture that created a great contrast with each type of duck. The food was excellent and the service was on the same level, if not higher. Our server knew the answers to all of our questions and gave us opinions on some of our dining decision. The dining room manager also came over to us to chat for a bit about the restaurant and gave us more of the sauce that came with our chickpea appetizer. The interior of the restaurant is spacious and modern. (Recommend making reservation if coming on weekend.) The food and bar checks off all the boxes. Full craft cocktail menu, great wine list, and fair amount of beers on tap. Then the rotating menu always has some amazing choices. So far everything I've sampled off friends plates and things I've ordered have been amazing. Did a duck dish with it done 3 ways----soooo good. I'd heard *a ton* about this restaurant and thought it was a perfect place to check out for a nicer meal when one of my closest friends was visiting in town. We ended up making a reservation for dinner on the weekend (highly recommend) and made the trek out to Seaport. The general location of the restaurant struck me as a bit odd because it was honestly kind of in the middle of nowhere...it was located along one street of small stores and possibly storage units (?) but that was it - overall it just felt very far removed from the rest of the Seaport neighborhood lol. Regardless, when we walked in, the interior of the restaurant was gorgeous (definitely gave off aesthetic date-night vibes) and everyone was incredibly friendly and kind. The main reason for my mediocre rating was based on the food. Between the two of us, we decided to share one app and one main. We got the smoked sea trout dip, where they swapped out crackers for vegetable crudite as a gluten-free option. The flavor of the dip was really great and usually I like a chunky dip, but here the pieces of fish felt so large that we ended up basically just eating the vegetables and dip separately. However, I honestly still enjoyed the flavor more than I did of our entree dish. We got the duck in three ways for our main dish because it sounded *so* creative and our server also highly recommended it. The presentation was absolutely flawless and picture perfect... but I found the dish to be super salty, particularly from the sausage component of the dish. The cook on the actual duck breast on top was a bit uneven, where one side was much more overcooked and a bit dry compared to the other side. We were able to try a couple of dishes and they were all so different and exquisite. The porchetta was insanely good. The favors were so unique paired together. Warm and refreshing - the jalapeños and peanuts with watermelon were amazing. The pastas were amazing! The green garlic spaghetti was 10/10, so rich in flavor and amazing with the clams. We had a group of 6 and they had a $50 per person cancellation policy which is ridiculous (if less than 24 hr notice). Also they said we couldn't eat a la carte if we had a group of 7, prefixe only ($75 each). The food was presented beautifully but lacking a bit in taste for certain dishes. Also overpriced. Trio of dips- As expected, no standouts Beets - Yum Chickpea fries - A standout. My favorite item and I would eat this again! Crispy hen of the woods - Interesting, it's a big mushroom. Not particularly flavorful. Brussels - Good Beef tartare- It was fine but not a tartare I would be in any rush to eat again Squid Ink Fusilli - Did not enjoy this. We ordered the smoked sea trout dip, brussel sprouts, steak tartare, squid ink fusilli, lobster campanelle, ricotta cavatelli (yes, three pasta dishes) and ended with the semolina sticky toffee pudding. I enjoyed every single main dish. If I'm limited to make two recommendations, I would highly recommend the smoked sea trout dip and lobster campanelle. The dip was unique, creamy and had that nice smoky flavor. I would have licked the bowl clean. The lobster campanelle was cooked well, with a nice slightly spicy sauce. However, the semolina sticky toffee pudding was not to my liking. The sticky toffee was overly sweet, I don't sweet items, but my friends also agreed it was overly sweet. Happy to say that our third visit to Chickadee was great. Some of the issues I reported in my last review seem to be resolved. On this visit we had the Fried Chicken, ($44) which I've seen before and always wanted to try. It was fantastic, and the biscuits that accompany are great. It's a massive plate, and more than can be eaten by two people. I wish a half portion was offered especially given the price point.
