I am originally from New York so I was skeptical at first but the bagels are amazing, better than any I've tried in Arizona. Truthfully, I've only visited once, but when I arrived at 11:30am on Monday morning the sesame bagels were just coming out of the oven. I had one with lox cream cheese and an americano. The cream cheese is thinner than I expected but still delicious. The whole meal was just like I remembered from home. I also loved how they were playing Cyndi Lauper's greatest hits as I ate. I forgot how positive all of her music is. The location is small, and in a mini mall near Sprouts, Sally's, and the Goodwill. A nice little mom and pop shop with excellent bagels. update: I've been back several times and it's still delicious. I haven't caught the fresh bagels again, but I now know that they have vanilla soy milk available for your coffee. So if you're lactose intolerant, REJOICE! You can enjoy a regular old coffee with cream in it without an upcharge (I never understood why other coffee shops charge extra for soy milk anyways). read more

After driving 15 miles to The Bagel Man to find out he was closed for a WEEK (Ugh!) this place seemed to be the next best option that's not serving Kroger-like bagels. Great selection of bagels, spreads, sandwiches. Lox is expensive but pretty good. Ice coffee is good too. Service could be a lot better in terms of friendliness but they are always fast. I recommend investing in a simple syrup or something similar for ice coffee buyers. And this may be nitpicking but the lids for the ice coffee are terrible and very loose! Overall a great place for a bagel and some coffee. Have returned many times and will continue to do so. read more

I was running errands and chose to stop here to try it. I was pleasantly surprised. The bagel was really very good. Some bagels can be hard to make into sandwiches as the stuff falls out. The bagel was made in a way this didn't happen with this sandwich. Flavor was great. Has a blueberry morning smoothie. It was also really tasty. Only suggestion is bigger diameter straw for the smoothie. Had to wait a tiny bit to have the smoothie go up the straw easily. Staff were very nice. Will come back. read more

I dropped into this adorable bagel shop for lunch while I was out running errands in the area, and I am very glad I did. The inside has a very intimate mom and pap coffee shop vibe that I really enjoyed. I ordered the veggie bagle sandwich on a gralric bagle with a side of fruite salad and it was very yummy! The food also came out very quickly and the service was great. This is one of favorite quick bites to eat near my house, I will be coming back very soon! read more

Ordered a bagel with egg and cheese, the lady got the order wrong gave me a bagel with cheese I told them I ordered one with egg. Instead of remaking the bagel she burned the cheese and put the egg on. It tasted disgusting! Worst tasting bagel I ever had! I went back around noon time to get my money back she did give me a refund. But she acted as if she did nothing wrong. I had to tell her burnt cheese on bagels are disgusting the young lady disagreed I had to tell her twice! I also told her just because someone corrects you on their order you messed up you shouldn't purposely burn their food. The old lady co worker was looking surprised. To them it's ok to treat customers like crap. I don't think that's fair. I use to live back east in Pennsylvania and ny to me that did not taste like a back east bagel. read more

The best bagel place in Tempe! Great menu options, plenty of bagels and quick service.

The spinach herb cream cheese is super tasty, but that's pretty much the only outstanding thing. Service is hit or miss, bagels are fine but honestly the ones next door at Sprouts are probably equally as good. I've been a couple times because it's right by my house and I get a real hankering for a bagel every now and then. This hits the spot but isn't really anything to write home about. read more

Went again today as I was just in the area and saw it out her corner of my eye, made a quick u-turn and pulled in. I guess it was close to the closing time for the place. I didn't mean to be that customer that goes to a food place as they are closing, it just so happened to be that time! I asked if they were still able to take an order and was told yes. The lady that took our order obviously was annoyed..which I get it! Trust me! But I would have just rather avoided that with being told it was too late to take orders! But she rushed our simple order, with a bacon add on and they forgot the bacon! Whelp just the bagels would have been a 5 , just the cream cheese would have been a 1 for serving the most soupy zero flavored onion chive cream cheese on the planet . Like did you cut it with yogurt or sour cream to make that bland tasteless with a slight tang mess ? As it is a cafe too so have to rate the full experience. Definitely drawn in by the name of the shop since I am transplanted New Yorker and miss my doughy inside and crunchy outside circles of delight . But I digress . Hours posted 6a- 2pm , arrived about noon to the counter woman standing in front of basically empty baskets of bagels . Surprised, I obviously annoyed her by asking if this was it , any more coming type thing . Very sour puss to me about it like of course you dummy empty baskets no more . Tried to be friendly and ask if ( you know in the event I might return ) this was normal for lunch time . Got a curt yes . Determined , I got the last 2 poppy and last garlic instead of a dozen as I detest fruit bagels and mushroom bagel sounded yuk. I bravely asked for one to be toasted and about some cream cheese , trying to figure if getting a small tub worth it over one serving. Still not feeling helpful I got a grunt to look at the posted prices and when I asked about if there was olive cream cheese that good and annoyed her cos I was told no , whatever is in there . I mean really unfriendly . I tried to push my luck and ask for a little butter on the side for the one bagel I was going to eat there . That'll be extra she barked so I said forget it . Went out front with my toasted dry bagel which fortunately I tried plain and it was Oy Vay good , but then ( see paragraph 1) it was spoiled by that soupy mess of no flavor "cream cheese" that had the nerve to have an "Onion Chive" sticker on it . I might be slightly biased because they were out of bagels when I arrived at 10am, but they said if I wait 10min they'd have fresh ones. Those hot fresh bagels were legitimately delicious. Loved these bagels. The cheddar ones still had some melty cheese on them and the bagels were just insanely soft. Only one I didn't like was the garlic bagel. Too much garlic. My breath from one bite could kill a vampire. Awful. Otherwise my other five bagels were some of the best I've had. read more

Been going here for a long time. PartnOf it is good bagels, but also a big part of it is supporting local businesses. Einstein is pretty good, but they're raking in the dough whether I go there or not. Unfortunately, Back East has become like the "Cheese Shop" routine from Monty Python. No bagels at 9:00 am on a Saturday is pretty much a sign of a business that has just stopped caring. That is too bad. I hope they get back to what they used to be. They never have bagels. This is a bagel shop and the 4 times I have come there have been no bagels. Dont stay open til 1pm if you are sold out by 10:30. You should close if you are out of bagels. I even called once to ensure there were bagels, that j had fee people and we all wanted bagels, was told yes, there are many bagels. My bagel is sometimes big and fluffy; other times it's wimpy and haggard by the cutting blade. Overall, there's nothing strongly beckoning me to BEB, other than it's close to my work, and they serve breakfast foods. Depending on my available time and money, I would probably spend a little more to go somewhere with better quality. If I'm trying to save a dollar, I'd probably go with a very cheap breakfast somewhere else. That being said, I've liked every encounter with BEB bagels. These bagels are an absolute joke. Not sure what part of the east Coast this shop is from, but it's not NY. Walking in, most of the bins were pretty empty at 10am, but these are fool's bagels. They are the size of a bottlecap and the hole in the middle is triple the size of any real NY bagel. Must be students buying these imposters because one look at these bagels was all I needed as I quickly escaped this "bagel" shop and headed for the hills. This is the best bagel place in Arizona. If you want fresh, flavorful, fluffy, fantastic dough rings: look no further. Their lox bagel/lox cream cheese is 100/10. Can't figure out how to give 1/2 a star..or even 1/8 so this is it. I actually felt uncomfortable here. Starting off, it's Veteran's day. I don't go around asking for discounts, but as a way to break the ice i asked the cashier, in a jovial tone...even using the double finger pistols to emphasize lightheartedness... if they did anything for veterans. In a dismissive manner he simply issued a curt, "no." Not something like" Unfortunately, not at this time" or "sadly, we didn't come up with anything"..just a quick dismissal in what could border on a deriding manner. But I haven't had a lox bagel in about a year so i pushed past it. Finally, $12 later(this is close to the price elsewhere so no issues there) I get my bagel and head home. From bite ONE it was messy and unpleasant. I expect some water in this setup. There's the tomato and the Lox. Sometimes the capers aren't completely shaken off before they're put on. But this was straight up soggy! There was more water in my bagel than bagel! I generally try to give people the benefit of the doubt. But I felt insulted and then served substandard fare. For $12 i expect the best they have to offer and I feel this entire thing was not given the attention it deserves. Won't be going back. I don't think in today's society it is right to be insultingly dismissive to people and then serve substandard product. read more

I love me some veggie cream cheese but wasn't a big fan of there's ...it was more like a chive cream cheese instead :/ . My BF got the pizza bagel which was pretty decent! They have a good deal on a box of bagels and cream cheese which would be good to bring to the office if you looking for something other then donuts for like 20$ something bucks! I almost never review on yelp so my review comes from a place of deep feelings. Needed a classis bagel this morning. Googled this place. I was skeptical at first but the negative reviews seemed to come from people who are super sensitive and I'm generally more tolerant of small things so I decided to come. Ordered an everything bagel toasted with vegetable cream cheese and a small coffee. Paid, got a cup for coffee, the coffee maker emptied after 3/4 of my cup was filled. I went to the counter and said "I'm sorry but the french roast is empty" Guy said we'll brew another batch. Sat down to eat the bagel it was soft consistency between a croissant and a roll. The vegetable cream cheese was a mild amount of cucumber in a buttery spread. Finished the bagel and still waiting on the coffee. I left so unsatisfied I'm writing this review from Einstein bagels 2 miles away. In their defense the veggie cream cheese is veggie lite and noone really didn't do anything wrong. My review is based on being a New Yorker coming to a place called BackEast Bagels. The decor is hipster chalkboard and feels like a west coast surfboard bagel place. The bagel and creamcheese are pretty inauthentic. I think if the place was called Big Kahuna Bagels and their feature item was sunset spread, it would all make sense. Overall it's a nice place and if you want to say you had a bagel and cream cheese for breakfast so you can turn your nose up at your coworkers go for it. If you're expecting a legit authentic bagel and vegetable cream cheese that has carrots, scallions or the works. Skip it. Oh and it's overpriced for what you're getting. read more

No one was inside when I stopped in and I can see why. Bagels are tiny. Very doughy (even when heated) and taste a bit strange. $20+ for two less-than-mediocre sandwiches and an espresso. Not worth it at all. The service was not even remotely polite; no greeting and when we thanked them for the food they simply turned their backs and went back to doing nothing. Okay. The pastrami was just sliced lunch meat from Costco, nothing special. It had a sad sliver of red onion and a few peperoncinis but no real flavor. Could have used some mustard or something. Chicken salad was even worse. It was more bland than the sad tomato slice topping it off. It needs texture. My boyfriend remarked it could use some grapes or something. Espresso was absolutely horrible. I looked for some cream for relief from the nasty flavor but all they had available was some powdered creamer in a shaker. All in all was left feeling still hungry and still in need of a caffeine fix. read more
