We live on 3 acres in the hills above Banning and needed to add concrete pads for our new storage sheds and RV parking, as well as walkways between existng buildings. Our design goal was to work with the natural draininage and lay of the land -- and Pete did not disappoint. His Bobcat professional [Paul] quickly turned Pete's vision into reality. His forms crew [Tony, Justin and Dean] had the experience and stamina to complete the pre-pour requirements on schedule and showed up at sunrise the next day, ahead of the three cement trucks to finish the job by sunset. Back to Eden Landscapes wasn't the cheapest bid we recieved, but their seamlessly-coordinated teamwork and the quality of the finished job allowed us to maintain our "work/shed" construction schedule. Not a good experience. This was an over $10k job, I expected better. After quote and down payment, process was slow. Granted we had to deal with heavy rainfall which caused delays. Time management was poor, he would tell us he was coming at 8am, show up at 11am. We had to keep calling him, to find out when he was coming. He continued to ask for payments but we pushed back on contract completion items. Now, 6 months after completion, I have had several leaks where fittings were not connected properly. I have looked at the 5 star reviews for Back to Eden, and am convinced that these must be friends/relatives/paid subscribers. Let me be absolutely clear: Pete from Back to Eden is a charlatan, and a hypocrite. We paid him $15,000 to do a "2 month" job, and it took almost 9 months to complete. A picture is worth 1000 words, and I am attaching photos of the complete crap that he put in our front yard. We have submitted complaints to Pete's bonding company, and the Contractor's State Licensing Board. I would not anticipate that Pete will have a contractor's license very much longer; but if you see his name pop under someone else's license, STAY AWAY FROM HIM. He will make promises and act all religious and say "God bless" but Pete Perez does absolutely TERRIBLE work, and then does not stand behind the crap that he will lay on your property. We signed an agreement with Pete in March contract stated 30 to 45 days we are on day 70 and it still is not done. Pete is a nice guy but has very poor time management and once he gets paid he will disappear for a week . He does most of the work himself since he cannot seem to keep workers or there is a chance he has too many projects going at once and cannot keep up with it - either way he is no longer working on our property. Absolute horrible experience DO NOT HIRE. So what Pete does is he comes out makes a bunch of great promises, great with helping you map out your idea, shows you great pics of his past projects, is punctual and professional, then requires a payment of about 35% of the total contract price up front to get started. After he has that up front payment he does bare minimum then keeps you on the string because you've already paid so much money. I hired Pete back in mid March and he said the project on my small / medium size yard would be completed by late April at the latest. Now here we are in June my yard is less than halfway complete. He will come out and do what equates to a few hours of work and will disappear for a couple of weeks until you badger him to come back out and complete your project; this is the cycle and you do it because you've already paid so much money so you just want it done. And on top of getting him to do anything being a struggle, what he does is shoddy work when he eventually gets around to doing it. Communication is horrible, he won't answer the phone and for every 3 or 4 text messages you send him, he might reply to one of them. Pete's progress payment contract is very front loaded so he will get the majority of his money up front and then he'll disappear leaving you with an undone project that you have to pay someone else to complete and fix the few things he did actually do. read more

We started off a little rocky because of a lack of communication, BUT after that everything went smoothly. Pete did a great job on demolition, prep for new grass, coring our curbs, and installing the sprinklers drainage rocks and grass. He even came back in a timely manner when parts of the grass got scorched by the sun and wasn't getting enough water. We got lots of landscape and concrete work done by Pete, for both front and back yard. I loved everything about it.... he had great ideas for our property, his timing was great, payments were perfectly timed, and his employees were very respectful of our property. Everything is beautiful, sustained perfectly, and would highly recommend over and over again. Pete left me with some cards, and already handed out quite a few with recommendations based on our home.... Cant wait to start phase 2 with him in a year or so... *only thing is when a sprinkler breaks or isn't working right, it takes a while to get out here to fix, so we have to turn off system for a few days. read more

Our experience with Pete was great! He completed our backyard: concrete patio, planter area for a small garden with a drip system, and rubber playground tiles for our toddlers play area. I was most impressed with Pete's willingness to research the use of playground tiles. My son has horrible allergies and we needed an alternative to grass for him to play on. He really listened to what we wanted and our concerns for having a safe backyard play area. Pete contacted me to set up an estimate from an online referral through HomeAdvisor. He was on time to measure and discuss with me the design for our new home backyard landscaping install that Friday and advised he would have a quote to me by the following Wednesday. It is now Saturday, no quote and my attempts to contact him to inquire on the status of my estimate (text and phone) have both remained unanswered. Can't comment on the quality of his work as we did not use his services, but I can say that he has not delivered the quote he promised in a timely manner and his lack of communication is very unprofessional. My government organization hired Mr Perez of Back to Eden Landscaping for a project in Nov 2018. It is now mid-June 2019 and our project is still not complete. Mr. Perez is often non-responsive to our emails and phone calls and has obviously put our project as a low priority. The project is a simple walk path with bender board and decomposed granite tamped down. We paid Mr Perez in full in November when we hired him and that was our first mistake. He now has no incentive to complete the job in a timely manner. Very unprofessional service all around and we never recommend him for future work. read more

One of the worst businesses I've ever worked with. I was looking for a contractor to do a 255 sq. ft. putting green project. I called this contractor on a Wednesday to come out and give me an estimate on a Saturday. He told me he would come out around 8 or 9 am, but would call Friday to confirm a time. I never heard from him. I called him twice Saturday morning trying to figure out where he was and got his voicemail. He finally called me back at 10:15 and told me he was leaving a job 20 minutes away and would come over pretty soon. I told him that I had another contractor coming over at 11:00, so we would have to push it back. He replied (this is verbatim), "I can't worry about that. I've got other things to do today." I was so dumbfounded that someone would say this to a potential customer that I really didn't say much back. I said OK, and hung up, with the intent of letting this guy come over, give us an estimate, and quickly dismissing him. Once he showed up, it got even worse. He showed up with NO turf samples. Seriously, you're going to try to sell me turf without samples? On the bright side, he did make a quick unsolicited apology about being abrupt on the phone (I could care less, the damage had been done). He also thanked me for my military service (he noticed I was wearing a shirt I got in Iraq). He took some measurements, and declined to give me an estimate on the spot. He said he would take them home, plug them into the computer and send me an email with the estimate on Monday. It is now Tuesday night and I've yet to hear anything back. I signed a contract for $2070 with another company today. I suppose Back to Eden must be rolling in so much dough that my $2k job isn't enough for them to roll out of bed in the morning. Methinks not. UPDATE: The original home consultation that I referenced above occurred on Feb 25th. He told me he would email me an estimate the following Monday (Feb 27th). Today is March 12th and I just received an email estimate from him. It came in 63% more expensive than the company I ended up going with. Worst of all, he flat out jacked up the square footage (like I wasn't going to catch it). He quoted me for 314 sq ft. Even after we vastly expanded on my original plan, the company I ended up going with only calculated the job at 250 sq ft. The square footage we had marked off the day "Back to Eden" was out here was closer to 180-200 sq feet. Unless he planned on throwing turf on top of my patio and/or BBQ, there is NO way any plan involved 314 sq. ft. So now, he is not only non-punctual and rude, but he is also dishonest/incompetent. We hired them originally to put our trampoline in the ground. They left a huge gap all the way around it where my children were falling in. After reaching out to them a couple times they said they would build a landing pad but it would be another $1000. I didnt realize they meant a little 5 foot landing area. so we did not have them finish the work. After finding how they should have done it on pinterest we showed them how to fix the problem. They only agreed to do it if we got the trampoline back out of the ground. We did that and then they built what they should have in the first place. But made sure to point out multiple times that they had underbid us. I had also hired them to put mulch around my childrens play set. we had to help them move the playset and then they apparently didnt plan to put edging around to keep the mulch in. So they had to change the price and go back to the store 2 times to finish the job. After wards I discovered the "mulch" they used is old reclaimed wood. I have found 3 nails in it so far. They do cheap work but it is definitely sloppy and I would not recommend them to anyone! read more

Concrete and landscape work was completed in Oct 2014, and in March 2015 the cement slab starting popping up. Called Pete to let him know of the problem, it took a couple weeks for him to come out and inspect the problem, he told me that he would take care of the problem. He scheduled a time to come out an review the contract to start the work but was a no show. He didn't call to reschedule or to say he could't make te the meeting. It has been 4 months and still no call from Pete or Back To Eden landscaping. I have all ready had the the repairs completed by another company. I hope he treats his other customers better than I have been. I can't believe he let this go so long that a bad review had to be written. I also thing he asked for to much money at the start of the project, the contractor board rule is 10% or 1000 $ when signing the contract, he asked 30% to start. read more

Pete and his crew assembled a outdoor shade structure we ordered as a kit from a company. We needed someone to put the structure up, as my husband and I were unable to. The kit was exactly what I wanted to add to our backyard, unfortunately the kit was supposed to be pre-cut, etc.. and essentially needed to be assembled. The company I bought it from sent the structure with some pieces that didn't fit together well. Pete and his crew were champs, they were patient and took the extra time to make the adjustments needed to make it all work. In the end the structure came out great, and Pete and his crew couldn't have been any nicer. Pete is honest, and will do what he says he will do, and with a smile. God Bles s him!! read more

He provided the proper estimates and permits for a stamped concrete patio and walkways, patio cover with lights and fans, fire pit, irrigation for turf and plants, drainage, plants and mulch. The start was delayed by the recent rain we had but first opportunity Pete got to work and completed the project very quickly. Horrible. We rent a home in Redlands. We had long awaited a new landscape but had to wait until the homeowner could afford the project. I recommended Pete with Back to Eden since I had seen his sign nearby. Finally we get word that our landlord decided to hire him based on our recommendation. Pete didn't show for the longest time. When I texted, he ignored me. We'd see him out front spraying the existing old grass with the poison. Then we wouldn't see him for weeks on end. I'd text again to see when the project would get underway so that we could be prepared. Again, he ignored me. He seemed very unavailable and during the pretreatment process he even had the audacity to tell my husband that he should go out there and do his work such has stand out there with a hose so that the chemicals would soak in. Isn't that HIS job? My husband works too much to be doing someone else work especially when PETE doesn't have the good manner to communicate with us mere "renters". This should have been foresight on my part but we just went with the flow. It took him several months to complete the project. A mismatched assortment of plants were picked which shows his design ability. Furthermore he left the two sprinkler systems sticking out like a sore thumbs when he could have easily placed a few bushy plants in front of them. Looks awful. Then he used old river rocks from our back yard and scattered them around the front. Again-looks awful. The two WORST parts about the project is that he did not treat the pre-existing lawn as much as he needed to because now a couple months in- It looks like we have a lawn coming up through the black plastic and granite composite sand. This is supposed to be a dry scape and it looks like a jungle of a mess. The first light rain we had washed an ample amount of the granite all over the driveway and he will not return my call when I asked what he suggest to fix the issue. He says in a condescending manner that he will only deal with the homeowner. She is over 250 miles away and elderly. I think he is using that to his advantage to avoid accountability and avoiding our calls even though we got him the job and LIVE here. Do we not matter when it comes to being satisfied customers?? The home owner is not able to do anything other than call him and ask him to reconcile and I've found that she is tremendously DISSATISFIED with him and his unwillingness to come clean. The last thing I have to say about the owner, PETE, is that he ripped out the only nice plant that we had originally. It was a variegated agave valuing approximately $50-$80. When he was asked about where it had gone, he said that he would bring it back. He never did. It was gorgeous and we wan it back. I even asked our elderly landlord (owner) if she had given him the go ahead to keep it and she had no idea of the matter and not authorized that at all. I asked him several times to bring it back and this CHRISTIAN business owner remains unreachable. Thank you Pete for the unprofessionalism. What do we do with our ugly yard now that you've run off with $7k plus from this poor woman? How will you be accountable? I wouldn't have spilled the truth about how you do business if you had just fixed the problem(s). You shouldn't have preyed on an older woman far away. read more

Contracted with Pete to lay concrete in front, create a stucco wall and landscape borders. Yes, sometimes you have to continue to call and encourage for follow up, but I have found this to be the case with most contractors. Once Pete and his crew came out they did a beautiful job. I am so pleased! I even called him a few weeks later as I tried to work an area in my yard for landscaping and was getting overwhelmed. Back to Eden recently completed a drought-friendly re-do on my front and backyard landscaping, including removal of existing turf, replacement by rock and cobblestone, (extensive) weed removal, weed fabric and wood chip installation, gravel installation, replacement of existing sprinkler system with drip line, repair to drain lines, replacement of leaking/broken sprinkler valves, and installation of approximately 20 new plants. The project was completed on-schedule, and communication with BtoE personnel was good and timely (which was important, as I have two dogs who typically have the run of the yard). Personnel were friendly, courteous, and kept work areas as clean as possible during the project. I would definitely recommend them to others for landscape projects. read more

This I rate a minus 5 honestly. Called for a bid and that was like pulling teeth. Pete told me he couldn't come one day and scheduled for the following. He told me to call him when I was on my way home from work and he didn't answer. He knew what time I arrived home and he called me just before I got home and said he would have to make a later appt that he was going to pick up a check. Then he called and I missed him by 5 minutes and I called him right back only for him to tell me he couldnt come out then his wife had made plans He said he could give me a phone estimate (how can anyone give an estimate without seeing the job) He gave me a price that I almost fainted when I heard. I already had 2 other estimates and his was WAY higher that they were. I told him no thank you but I have to say he is the worst at Customer Service than anyone I have ever dealt with I don't understand how he stays in business.
