I live right down the street and it's our go to Sunday spot! The food here is very good and we love the bloody Mary's! Every-time we have gone, we have had great service with each waitress. We never have to sit there waiting to order or asking for more water, they are on top of it! And not to the point where it's too much. The people there are all so nice and welcoming. This was our first visit here. We sat in the outdoor patio and enjoyed the fantastic weather. The patio is very nice with comfy chairs. Our waitress Jillian introduced us to the menu and their burgers which they're known for. Service was very good and she was attentive but not overbearing throughout our lunch. I got the half-pound burger with applewood smoked bacon and fries while my wife got their version of a breakfast burger. She also had some sort of spicy Mango Rita which she really enjoyed. Our food arrived and my first thought was I sure hope the burger tastes as good as it smells. It had that great chargrilled smell and it turns out the burger's taste matched the smell perfectly. The brioche bun was branded and quite tasty. If I were to change one thing I'd make the bun just a touch smaller as the meat to bun ratio was slightly off for me. And I ordered it medium but it came out medium well though my wife's burger was a perfect medium. Moving on to the fries. My wife and I both found these to be the best fries we have had in a long time! They're battered fries which we always love but the key here is that they were piping hot and crispy and clearly had been plated right out of the fryer. Needless to say we will be back. read more

When perusing the Plainfield area for bar fare, one is not short of options. It takes gusto, creativity, and high quality to stand out in this scene. Reaching heights of pub fare ecstasy requires strengths that far exceed weaknesses. What Backroads Pub achieves well merits highest marks, and though it has a plethora of these strengths, some shortcomings prevent this from being a true 5-star recommendation. Where Backroads excels is its burger menu. The uniqueness and effort shines through in every selection; one can immediately recognize the craft that goes into each burger. In my various visits, I estimate eating about 50% of the complete regular burger selection on aggregate, and each burger I ate was a delight. There is something for every palate here, and the perennial options are more than sufficient to recommend this establishment as a go-to burger joint. What makes this all the more enticing is the Burger of the Month creation - which, as the name implies, involves a special burger concoction available only for a particular month. These are experimental choices tailored to tempt the more adventurous diners, and they are brilliant. This adds further value to the already stellar burger offering. Now, burgers may be the feature presentation at Backroads (rightly so), but the other cast members make a valiant appearance. As far as the better options of the bunch, the Baby Back Ribs are a worthy highlight. They pack a tangy and flavorful punch with a tenderness that Elvis Presley would love to sing about. A handful of appetizers show well, including the sinful Reuben Rolls. Though these items are fantastic alternatives to the platinum level burger barn, the rest of the menu falls somewhat flat. Side items are underwhelming, and tend to take away from the positive impact of the main courses. This is true of most items aside from the house fries, which have a more smooth and salty texture than one may find elsewhere. Green beans are not quite as soft as one would expect, and fuji apples would be more aptly monikered as 'mushy apples'; there are 3 variations of tater tots which are not quite unique enough to merit so many options. These sides detract from what is otherwise a pleasant experience. All in all, Backroads Pub delivers the goods in spades. There is a significant part of me that cannot help but wonder if "Backroads Burgers 'n Brews" would be a more apt brand, since the burgers are such a clear labour of love and a crowning highlight. Even so, the pub fare here is more than the sum of its parts, and despite some missteps with side items and otherwise overlooked entrées, this is one establishment that deserves to be on your radar. read more

We enjoy going to Backroads Burger and Bar with our dog. Today we took the whole family, our dog and grand-dog. Everyone there was so welcoming. The service that Sophie and Alex gave us was simply outstanding. The catered to our dogs and they even have a menu just for the dogs. It was nice sitting on the patio today. We each had a burger. Mine was the Bacon Jam. I didn't want the jalapeño bacon so Cooper offered me different options. My husband had the Bourbon Burger. Both were absolutely delicious due to Jade and Alyssa's talent. During the meal, I spilled my beer down between the table and the wall. Cooper brought me another and told me not to worry about it. My husband and I came here on a Sunday evening when I didn't feel like cooking. It came recommended to us and we really wanted to try it. There were some unique burger options as well as other sandwich choices. When we got there, there weren't many people seated and we were served right away. The decor is cool and they have posters with clever sayings. They also have a couple arcade games like "the claw". It was way to hot to sit outside, but on a cooler evening there is a big screen TV and some games on the patio. It definitely seems like a good place to hang out. They have decent beer and cider options. I'm not a big whisky drinker, but my husband was pleased with their whisky choices. The bar had a cool ambiance as well. We sat at the table, but the bar had a bold aesthetic. We ordered our entrees pretty quickly. I went with the bourbon barrel. It was a bit more of a classic flavor profile than some of the other options. It had bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheese and a bourbon glaze. It was really delicious. The bourbon glaze added a bit of sweetness. The burger itself was cooked perfectly with just the right amount of juiciness and fat. My husband went a little more unique and got the That's My Jam which is basically like a PB&J burger. The peanut butter sauce was actually a great addition (he let me try some ).
