This is a solid bar & grill on Route 59 in Naperville. Great place to catch a game!

HOP-LITE Just as the foot soldiers of ancient Greece wielded a spear & shield, Spartan Ale House charges into battle with a pint of beer &....a cheese brick?? After driving past this sports bar on Route 59 many times over the years, I finally came here with my wife for a quick dinner date. The venue itself is cool and the building has some funky features to it, like a castle turret on the outside façade. Inside, it's nice and spacious. Almost TOO spacious. Their $5 draft-of-the-month was a Goose Island pocket pilsner. My wife got a few pints of Bells Oberon (which is in season now!) for $7.50/ea. It wasn't very busy so our server was able to bring out two more rounds in a timely manner, however they never gave us water. Spartan cheese bricks (5 for $15) are much larger than your standard mozza stick. Squares of 1/2" thick mozzarella are deep fried in a tempura-like batter and served with marinara; we loved this variation on a classic bar bite. The Greek-style chicken skewers ($15) were tasty, they came with tzadziki and pita wedges. As much as we enjoyed the fried pickles ($12), the cayenne ranch dipping sauce was overpowering. Whoever made that batch did so with a very heavy hand on the seasoning, and after one bite I looked at my wife to say "uhhh honey FYI, they went way too hard on the cayenne". One brief coughing fit later, she agreed. Bread = 4 Circuses = 4 There's your typical array of large TV's showing all manner of sports, and I appreciated them flying collegiate flags representing the original Big Ten lineup (none of this Rutgers or UCLA crap). I can definitely see myself coming back to watch Boilermaker basketball or one of Purdue's early season football games on their outdoor patio. * TL;DR * Naperville may have over 260 places to dine at, but Spartan Ale House is worth checking out. The daily drink specials are great, so even if $6 Moscow Mule Mondays aren't your bag, there's $4 pint Tuesdays and $5 bloody mary's on the weekend (plus $3 domestic bottles Sat-Sun). The food we tried was better than average and I'm looking forward to getting a burger next visit. Cool place, definitely recommended.

Food was really good the Mediterranean rice was alright. The Redeye burger was awesome. Service was pretty good the waitress was nice. However food did take awhile to come out even though there wasn't many people there. Ambiance was nice, lots of TVs.

Cool atmosphere with sports on several televisions all around the space, friendly and competent service, and a wide array of food and cocktail choices. I had the Spartan Grilled Cheese with bacon, avocado, cheddar and provolone cheese on grilled sourdough. Delicious. Emily was my server and bartender and she was great! Thanks!

First time here, always see the place and always wanna stop and finally did. Everything we had was amazing and we will definitely be back. Got pizza for the kids and they smashed! Then got traditional wings which were prolly some of the best I've had. Along with the French onion soup and Greek chicken skewers! Amazing! We will definitely be back!

Maybe the last place in America with reasonable prices and good drink specials. Great staff, great laid-back vibe.

We were seated immediately. Both the host and our waitress were very friendly and welcoming. I ordered a mixed drink which was very well done. One area that could have been improved upon was the wait times. This included for my drink. They were a little too long. They weren't outrageous. Just a little too long. When we ordered our food, I miss ordered and the waitress thankfully asked enough questions to figure out what I really wanted. Great job on her behalf. The food itself was amazing. The baked sausage Paisano was huge, piping hot, and delicious! My friend ordered a calzone which was also huge and she also enjoyed. A final note would be that they need to wipe down the folders for the checks more often.. When she put our bill on the table, there were greasy smudges over half of the folder. Not a great last impression. So overall, our experience was great. And based on how well it went I can definitely suggest others to give it a try. If I'm in the neighborhood, I can see myself coming back.

I got 3 full plates of food from a huge round container so much better tasting than more popular Italian restaurants including chains that charge a helluva lot more money for a dinky potion.

I shall start off with the average meat-eating omnivore. Options galore!!! Burgers, fries and appetizers for everybody! Vegetarians are delighted here as well Moving on to vegans such as myself... they offer a delicious and I mean SCRUMPTIOUS veggie burger that I would carry out or eat at a patio table anytime! One star off for the stink of cooking animal flesh which killed my appetite and the meaty appearance of everyone's burgers did as well. The star off is also due to their inability to provide any information at all about their French fries and the cooking oil used Vegetarians and those on diets did great with their salads and appetizers Celiacs only fair a very weak okay for the gluten-free options We came here as a large work group, and the service was EXCELLENT Atmosphere was not suitable - we would not return as a group. With all of the customers we could not hear one another speak. Add to that their overly loud music. The place was just TOO LOUD Look I offer the fairest Yelp reviews in all of the Yelp Universe 5-star food, 5-star service and 1-star atmosphere/ambience Sad to not return and I enjoy dining out and would not go through the Empire ordeal again. If I were ill, I would have my husband carryout a 3 meal enormous veggie burger from here and appreciate the yummy option xx Shelby S

I ordered the "Jane," which is a pretty standard burger with lettuce, tomato, and cheese. It was good overall and cooked well, but it wasn't anything especially memorable or the best burger I've had. One thing that surprised me was how limited the menu was considering how large the restaurant is. I expected a bit more variety. Overall, Empire is worth visiting for the atmosphere and rooftop experience, but the food itself was solid rather than outstanding.

We've been there a few times before but this time it missed the mark for several reasons. I ordered the Cod Fish & Chips last time and they were very good with a good crunch and a generous serving, what I didn't like was their breading it was very bland with hardly any taste. Also, they didn't even have tartar sauce it was kind of like a Cajun type aioli. The waitress said that they didn't have regular tartar sauce, I thought that was odd serving fish and chips without tartar sauce. It didn't justify the $24.00 price tag. The coffee was very strong, I like coffee a little strong but this was over the top. We had the nicest server named Gloria always willing to help with the menu and refills of Mango Iced Teas. My sisters ordered the Bourbon Blue Cheese Burger and they both said they were very good. I think we are going to go to a different restaurant next time even though we went their several times before. Sorry Rock Bottom!
