Yummy pizza, fun games and nice local beer options. We love the sting and rush pizzas, spaghetti and meat balls and the bird song appetizer! They could do better with their wine selections and have some more beer options for those that don't always drink beer (I.e.chocolate beers, fruity beers). But they are still a fantastic place. I ordered the burger called the decision is yours. The burger has 2 grilled cheese sandwiches for buns with mac and cheese on the burger. It was good, not great. It needed something but I'm not sure what it is. The spicy chipotle mayo disappeared and the only thing I could taste was the grilled cheese. Now that's not a bad thing but like I said, it needed something. Fries were awesome. Val was our server. She was great and very attentive. My wife and I took our son and he thought it was a little too loud but it is a bar on Friday night and we sat in the back by the bar. We will definitely be back. read more

We had a pickup order during the stay at home order. Family of 6- various orders including the giant pretzel (Big Arse Pretzel) which was super yummy. I got ribs with Mac and cheese and the onion chips (Mac and cheese was EXCELLENT, onion chips were tasty but a little soggy by the time they arrived home) Two orders of sliders were enjoyed, as well as a Shroom Burger which was huge- fish and chips was good too. also ordered virgin strawberry daiquiri which tasted more like watermelon but was so yummy! read more

I'm not from Illinois, but I did a random Google map search and came across Backroads Pub & Grill. The location is clean and friendly. I got the bourbon burger with a pretzel bun, $0.50 adder but worth it. It got a little messy but I think that was on me for cutting it poorly :). Normally I only finish half of a restaurant burger because they are too filling but I crushed this one. My coworker and I were shocked how fast the food came out. Backroads is currently my favorite local restaurant. The burgers are great, the fries are crisp, and I loved every song that came on. Our waitress tonight was Brittany and she made our experience 10 times better. She talked to us with a genuine means to get to know us. She was very accommodating and gave me great drink recommendations. As an indecisive person, I had her surprise me with whatever drink she picked and it was fantastic. Finally the right place took over the restaurant space where Katie O'Connors was. Welcome to Plainfield, Backroads. We have been to Backroads twice now and had fantastic experiences both time. Our first visit was a beautiful Friday evening. We ate outside where the patio is nice, clean, full of patrons, and very enjoyable. The server was efficient, knowledgeable and attentive. The food came out quickly and was made exactly as we had ordered it. Our second visit was yesterday (Saturday) lunch. We sat inside this time and again, were treated with a warm welcome from the host and every other employee we encountered. We were a table of 5, and each one of us was satisified with our food and the quality of service. Our server made suggestions about the menu, and she was right on the money. Very disappointed. Came in 4 times and had a great time each time. 1st time I spent about 200$, second time about 75$, 3rd time about 150$, and 4th time about 200$. After 4th visit, I was closing my tab and owner approached me and told me I needed to leave because I was being too loud. I asked the owner if I could stay if I lower my voice (I was watching the bulls game) and he responded no I needed to leave immediately. This is as I have my final drink still in front of me. My food came and I finished my drink and walked to the front. I asked to speak to the owner so I could find out what happened. I was not hostile I was not mad I just wanted an explanation. The owner proceeded to tell me "I don't have time to go back and fourth with you, you need to leave and I don't care if you ever come back" never in my life has someone ever told me something like that. I am an avid bar enthusiast and I love trying new places and if I like a place I usually become a regular. I've even worked in a few bars so I understand when someone needs to leave they need to leave. After this last visit I will surely never come back and I will tell this story often so people know they need to make sure to keep their voice low in this bar. (Never heard of a bar not giving a warning or have a limit on noise) food is good, but there are many other establishments who will surely take my money and treat someone with respect unlike the owner Dave. read more

I'm really on the fence with this place. The one major fumble during my visit was getting the nachos and the chips were stale. The staff was accommodating and took it off the check after we sent it back after a chip or two. Everything else we had was good... ...just felt like it couldn't push beyond average. There's always a BUT to each good thing. Most of what you'll find on the menu consists of nice ingredients, but none of it really seems to showcase a reason to go out to eat. Any of the "house made" elements are limited to sauces. The beer selection is nice, however pretty limited to what you'd find in the beer isle at the grocery. The cocktails we ordered were decent, but sweet and light on the booze. The silverware and plates got the job done and looked good, but plastic plates and aluminum forks made everything feel like I was eating in a nicer cafeteria. My GF's burger looked pretty good, but it was coated in a sticky sweet sauce. The meat was nice, but not a great cook on it. My Philly sandwich was pretty good, but there was a lot of butter on the sandwich (a classic restaurant cheat). Two drinks and one entree (with a sent back app) came to about $50 including tip. I can tell some attention went into this place with its ingredient choices. A night out is not just buying off the top rack at a higher end grocery store, its about putting something on the table that I can't at home. I drove 25 minutes one way to come and try you guys out. Between me and you is several restaurants of the same nature that do this better and a high end grocery store that offers the same stuff out of the butcher/baker/frozen section for a better price with a little more effort. They have a nice char grilled flavor and you can taste it even with tons of different toppings. The menu has a nice variety of items if burgers aren't you're thing. My boyfriend and I were out looking for garage sales when we had decided we were hungry. We drove by this strip mall and saw Tortilla Flatz and Backroads. We decided to check Yelp and decided on Backroads over Tortilla Flatz. We walked in and it appeared pretty dead. There was no sign saying whether or not to wait to be seated or seat ourselves. So we waited for a bit to see if someone would notice us. A waitress eventually saw us and asked what kind of table we wanted, we told her a regular table and she sat us down and said our server would be with us shortly. The waitress then came back and said she'd be the one serving us. We ordered waters and my boyfriend got a Diet Coke. We looked over the menu and decided on an appetizer. When the waitress came back (sorry I don't remember her name) I asked how the sweet tea was, she told me they didn't have sweet tea, that they only have unsweetened iced tea and then we can add sweetener to it. I changed my mind and asked for a root beer. I was extremely confused because under beverages on the menu it says "Unsweetened Iced Tea, Sweet and Blueberry" -- why have something on the menu it you don't actually serve it?? We ended up ordering the Reuben Rolls which were delicious!! However, when she brought them we were never offered plates and the rolls were hot and greasy, so we ended up eating over our one napkin each as our server never returned to check on us, so we weren't able to ask for plates. We did end up finishing the rolls and even had to flip a coins for the last one haha!! It was when she delivered our appetizer that she took our order. My boyfriend ordered the Tango Whiskey FoxTrot Burger with a side of Fuji fried apples, steamed broccoli and a cup of Chicken and Creamed Wild Rice Soup. I ordered the fish and chips with a side of Mac and cheese instead of the coleslaw it came with and a cup of the same soup. We didn't see our server again until she brought our food out. Now I must say, the food was good. The soup was phenomenal, as my boyfriend put it and I agree!! My boyfriend loved his burrito/burger but was only able to eat half and had to take half home. He loved the fried apples but said the steamed broccoli was "eh". The fish was good, nothing amazing but it was tasty. The fries were good, lacked some flavor but was overall pretty good. The Mac and cheese was way too cheesy and heavy so I only picked at it. We were too full for desert so we can't speak to that. Our waitress refilled my boyfriend's Diet Coke when she brought the food and then when she brought our prickly pear margarita, which was straight liquor, she asked if we needed anything. I'd forgotten to ask for extra napkins but we never saw her again to ask for them so we had to do without. She also never offered to refill my root beer nor did I have a chance to ask. When were done, we weren't sure how long we'd be waiting for the check, luckily our server came fairly quickly and we asked for the check and some boxes. When I received the check I reviewed it and had a concern: my fish and chips were charged as $14 instead of the menu price of $13. I wasn't gonna say anything over a dollar but I was confused. I also noticed the text "Backroads" to 36000 to join the text club at the top of the receipt so I did and I received a 15% off coupon that said it was good for TODAY ONLY. So when the waitress came back I mentioned the coupon and asked about the price of my meal. She said I was charged a dollar more because I'd gotten a premium side instead of the coleslaw, which is fine except I was also charged $3 for a side of Mac and cheese. She said she did that because otherwise I'd have gotten a much smaller side of Mac and cheese, which I would've been fine with. She ended up taking off the extra side of Mac and cheese which was generous and also the proper response since I didn't ask for an extra side, I replaced the coleslaw. Then while we were waiting she came back and asked if my coupon was from today -- huh?? I said yes and showed her my phone and said that I texted the number after seeing it on the receipt. I just was baffled at the question, as it could've been easily answered had she looked at my phone the first time I showed her the coupon. Overall, the food is quite good, but the service leaves something to be desired. I also at one point felt like we were sitting in a sorority house, not a restaurant as the waitresses were sitting at a table in the middle of the restaurant and were chatting and laughing as girls do, but in the middle of a restaurant didn't seem appropriate. It appeared to be prior to a small meeting, but they sat there for quite awhile before the manager/owner (not sure) came and talked with them for no more than 5 minutes. Moral of the review: food is good, would definitely come back for that, but the service needs quite a bit of work.
