Good food and great service. The chicken on the Cesar salad was so tender and juicy. The grilled cheese was ok. But the tater tots were crunchy and tasty. The pulled pork was good except for the onions. I was impressed with the service. They were nice, attentive & accommodating. I recommend trying this place. Lots of tv screens & in a good location. It gets 4 for the service we got from our server... but 3 for the Smoked Brisket Sandwich. It was a big problem. Yes it tasted good but it was very hard to eat. Instead of a nice slab of brisket or a very loose finely chopped up pile of brisket, the sandwich had these big chunks and as soon as you pick up a half, the chunks start falling out. It is also not very comfortable to bite into the sandwich only to have these big chunks of meat to deal with. All in all.... just not a very well made sandwich. Highly recommend removing this one from the menu. Patron, pick something else. I will go back and try some other item. read more

This place is great, we ate in the bar side which is FULL of great sports memorabilia. The staff was friendly, prompt and attentive. Their selections were fairly standard - burgers, sandwiches, etc but they had variations that were mouth-watering. Prices were spot on and the quality was outstanding. I took my mom out for a late Mother's Day lunch and we both enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to taking my family here and trying the restaurant side. read more

We have had dinner at Backstop multiple times but this morning had breakfast for the first time. It made me want to write a review it was so outstanding. This is our "go to" place when we feel like eating out. We can always count on a good meal there. Great variety of choices.

My Mom and I came in one Saturday morning around 10- it wasn't too busy, we got a seat immediately. The hostess/server was super sweet and attentive, service was great. We got biscuits and gravy with a side of sausage and the Catalina omelette with the pancakes. As a Texan, I'm particular about my gravy- and this stuff was good! The sausage was delicious which was totally unexpected, we're going to the local meat shop where they got it after this for more! The omelette was ready good with fresh green chilies (not canned) and pancakes were good, but you should eat them when they're hot- we didn't and I think we missed out. Armed with 3 11 year old girls food orders that literally matched nothing on the menu, I called and told the very nice woman over the phone what they wanted, she didn't even blink. The girls got their very tasty chicken tenders, alfredo pasta, and plain mac n cheese with fries, cheesy bread, and I got a delicious fresh cobb salad, all packaged up to go at pick up. This is one of my favorite places to eat in town. They have great food, wonderful and friendly staff and when you can sit inside a wonderful sports ambiance. I miss being able to sit inside and eat a meal, but with COVID that has posed a lot of challenges. But even so, take out is still great food. I live nearby, and I've been here twice. Both times I was unimpressed. The food is "meh." I took my 2 year old son here for a quick lunch, because we were playing at the nearby park. I ordered a sandwich for me and chicken fingers for him. Took almost 40 minutes before we got our food. The service was nice, but unapologetic and I had to ask for more water anytime we needed it. Worst customer service that I have experienced! I called at 10 am no answer kept calling for two hours straight no answer o show up in person to place a order and don't get greeted once someone notices me they ask what I need I tell them well I've been calling since 10 Am that's some bad customer service . I had to drive there to get told that my order couldn't be placed . It would be nice if they had voice mail letting customer know that they aren't taking phone orders. I know they can get busy pretty quickly, but everyone is working so hard, you just have to appreciate it. The bartending staff makes you feel like you're part of the club. Outstanding Service, delicious food, and great atmosphere. I usually go between 6-7 in the evening so you can except it to be a little busy, especially if a good game is on. That being said no matter how busy the staff is always there to greet you with a smile and will treat you like you're the only one there. Food is always fresh and cooked to perfection! My usual dinner is the Spicy Asian Wrap with Cajun Tots. The chicken is oh so juicy, greens so fresh and crispy and the tots pair perfectly. My other recommendations would have to be but not limited to are the chicken wings, pretzels, and calamari skewers. If you show up between 3-6 or 9- close every day of the week you will be treated to their happy hour menu that has anything you could ever want at at even a better bargain then it normally is. Let's not forget the beer and drinks either, drinks are the real thing, no cutting corners like some places do and they have many of your favorite beers on tap or in the cooler. They also do 22 ounce pours if you are really thirsty. All in all if you like great food, at an affordable price, backed by excellent service you will really enjoy the Backstop. read more

This restaurant just opened so I knew going in they would have some issues to sort out. A few other restaurants have died at this location so I was hoping something new and exciting would finally grace our small town. For some reason Canby just cannot get a quality sit down restaurant. What gives? Backstop is your standard sports bar restaurant. Multiple TV's everywhere, open floor plan and nothing that distinguishes this place from any other sports bar. Wait staff were curteous but a little frazzled as you would expect from a new startup. Drinks took forever to come out and my beer bottle was broken at the top. Again I will put this down to new restaurant syndrome. They actually have a very nice and concise menu. I heard they were going to add alot more items which made me wary as from my experience restaurants that offer a large menu offer mediocre fare at best. I ordered the blue cheese / buffalo sauce burger cooked medium. Our food took along time to come and my burger was only luke warm when it arrived. The bun was excellent and the fries were quite good. The portion of fries was small as I am used to having my plate overflow with them at other restuarants. The patty was very thin, unseasoned, and way way overcooked. Tasted like a frozen patty that had been squashed flat when cooked thus expelling any juices it had left. The grey patty just crumbled and made the entire burger very dry to eat. It was a shame as the blue cheese and buffalo sauce went well together. The wifey ordered a pasta dish and the sauce tasted like it was out of a can. Unfortunately Canby misses out again on a great restaurant opportunity. Why someone cannot open a place using fresh local ingredients is beyond me. For half the price I can go grab a far superior and fresh, juicy burger at 5 Guys. Keep the menu simple and fresh guys...how hard can it be? read more

Great little place in Canby right of the highway. The service was quick and many people helped out table. We ordered the appetizer of garlic mushrooms and they were delicious. Our party ordered the BLTA, Chicken sandwich and the roast beef sandwich all were cooked great. We were seated in a timely manner as well. Restaurant was clean and has a sports theme atmosphere. Canby really needed a place like this! I've been there for lunch, dinner, happy hour and special events. You feel like a regular on your first visit. Backstop seriously has THE BEST wait staff I have ever seen. They are super attentive, knowledgeable on the menu and changing beer taps. They don't scoff at large groups or groups that want to split the check. Happy hour food prices are incredible, you can seriously eat like a queen/king! I swear their pretzels are AMAZING! I don't know what they do to them.. But oh my! Love them! I haven't tried their breakfast on the weekends, but I've heard it's pretty darn good! read more

Valentines day!! Of course this place was busy. We didn't have to wait long at all. The server was excellent, and the menu was extensive with a great variety. My wife had the fish and chips, which she bragged about and I had just a bacon burger w fries. Food was great. Sports bar atmosphere so expect lots of TV's. We tried the previous incarnation of this restaurant and were really happy to hear that a new restaurant would be replacing it. We wanted to give it a chance to work the kinks out, so we only visited for the first time tonight. I wish I could say that I enjoyed my meal here, but I thought the food was really quite bad. I tried the ribs and the brisket. The ribs had no seasoning at all. None. The meat was dry and tasted like nothing. The brisket was also under seasoned, but was coated in some weird sauce that defied identification. It was also served fajita style, which I thought was kind of strange. The fries were good, beans were fine. I also had a side salad, which was fine. One of the reasons I ordered the ribs was because of number of positive reviews here on Yelp, so I feel a bit let down. Service was fine and the atmosphere was much improved from the last restaurant, but that isn't really why I go out to dinner. If the food is nothing special, why bother? read more
