I wound up here on Friday night as part of a celebration of my husband's retirement. Again, the service was stellar, but this time I ordered the brisket salad for dinner. It was delicious (but I would read the menu more closely next time and ask for barbeque sauce on the side and no dressing; it was overdressed for my tastes, but that didn't stop me from enjoying it). This salad has a generous portion of tender, brisket; the greens were fresh and well proportioned with the warm brisket. My salad came with two onion rings that I passed off to friends at the table--they said the rings were well done and tasty. My husband ordered buffalo chicken wrap with fries--all great. Our drinks were good, too. I had a kamikaze and my husband enjoyed a few margaritas. Because we were in a group, someone insisted that we all have a round of Jägermeister. I signaled to the waitress to count me out--I'm not much of a drinker and shots don't sound appealing to me. She subtly came to my side of the table and whispered, "I'll bring you a shot of Coke, ok?" It was actually perfect. Sure, I could have had a smack down with my friend about insisting on shots, but this was the wrong context. I really appreciated her grace and cleverness. Plus, now I look like a bad ass. As the evening played out, I noticed the owner, Ken, see an abandoned purse hanging off a chair near the video gaming machines. He got an employee's attention, asked a few questions, and discerned that the purse belonged to a woman now sitting at the bar. He retrieved it for her. It was a small act of kindness, but Ken's attention to detail caught my eye. No wonder this place feels so good. No wonder it's so crowded and energized. Bravo! read more

I've had the Ribs a couple of times now. And each time I kick myself saying why did I get those ribs? I've now told my wife, if we EVER go again, to remind me to stay away from them. They lacked color. Meat/ribs looked grey in color. BBQ is usually a smokey brown or redish color everywhere else I've been to have ribs. Like from Campbells BBQ when the existed, Famous Daves, Hog Wild etc. The ribs just have no flavor and hardly any meat the 3 times that I've tried them. I love ribs. I wished there were better ribs in Canby. However service is usually good. And the atmosphere if we eat in, is fine. read more

We used to frequent this restaurant but no longer. Decided to try breakfast. I ordered biscuits and gravy and my partner ordered country friend streak. Both dishes had very little gravy considering these are gravy meals. My had a very light coating and wasn't even covering my whole meal. I'm used to gravy dishes being covered or smothered in gravy but that's not the case here. My poor partners country fried steak was less than half covered and was dry. I ordered a large orange juice and it was almost $7 for store bought/brand juice. There are other places in Canby for breakfast for sure. We decided that we will no longer eat there at all. Try biscuits or even better, try aurora colony just a couple of miles away. The staff is nice though and always helpful. read more

We went there for dinner with 6 people on a Saturday night. We had a very short wait. Very nice hostess and we were greeted immediately after being sat even though they were very busy. These guys are good for breakfast also! I had the breakfast version of the chicken fried steak with eggs, hash browns, toast. The cfs was as good for breakfast as I remembered it from dinner. It was huge, tender, flavourful. Cooked to perfection, it was easy to cut with my fork. The fresh preserves to go with the English muffin was perfect. The wife had eggs Benedict, her go-to favorite for breakfast and she was not disappointed. We were able to get in quick, order trained and food delivered promptly as well. We have eaten here a couple times now and there is no consistency. Sometimes the food is on point and then it's not. The food prices are ElGaucho and the food is sometimes of MRE quality. Tonight we had the brisket dinner with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. Everything on the menu is prepared very well! This is a great place to see every game all the time. The beer is alway ice cold. The owners are always here and they have a wonderful staff that has been here longer than I have been coming in. If there is a problem they fix it without question or hesitation. Every time we have come to this place, something is left off, incorrect or brought at same time as meal. Tonight was no exception. Soup and salad should be served before meal and not with main course. So frustrating and yes I get that some people might not care but I do. People are friendly enough but care more at times with talking to regulars and not getting orders delivered correctly. My girlfriends and I ran away from home and decided to head out of town. Flying blind, I looked into restaurants in Canby and discovered Backstop. So glad I did! Megan was our server and she was amazing! I got the burger, my girlfriends got the cibatta, buffalo wrap and the Cobb salad. Everyone was raving about their food. Fun atmosphere with baseball, basketball, and a few football memorabilia on the walls. Unfortunately they couldn't afford any Niners stuff too expensive I guess. I got the steak vegetable soup for appetizer they recommended wasn't the greatest soup tons of corn in it almost more than broth. The waitress said it was prime rib in it and it tasted like brisket nothing special. Had an ok flavor wouldn't have it again though for 4.50$ a cup or 5.50$ a bowl. The bbq wings my friend got had a lot of bbq sauce and he said was smoky nice looking wings though good sized. I got the Spicy Mac&Cheese added Cajun chicken for 16.25$ that was a 2.50$ up charge wouldn't recommend doing the chicken they just added some tiny little cut up chicken squares. The sauce was good had just enough of a spice to it that you could taste but not super hot. I had to add salt to it to bring out some of the flavor and the bacon bits were few and in between also kinda chewy. I personally like crispy bacon or at least a little more cooked and a lot more. I couldn't taste any bread crumbs on it but the garlic bread was delicious. Service was fast and they were pretty busy so that's a plus. The portions were huge the 3 star review is only because of food quality and price especially the price. read more

Wednesday, June 26th. A group of us ladies get together for dinner. Last night we were at the Backstop in Canby. The restaurant suffered a power outage during the storm. The establishment could have just said sorry ladies and told us to leave, but no here is a list of what they were able to do. Pros: Hand input all of the orders because of power outage. The cook figured out how to get all 12 orders of ours cooked and served with only one slight change (no toast on a BLTA) due too no toasters. He was cooking by flashlight. Everything came out beautifully and very tasty. The waitresses were so friendly and light-hearted. I highly recommend this restaurant. Thank you staff....you made a tough situation, fun, relaxed, and very cheerful. read more

This was our first time here and we had high hopes just because of the lack of decent dining choices in the area. We were most pleasantly surprised and we'll definitely come here again. The food was flavorful and well presented, the menu had several items I'd like to try in the future and they have some great beers on tap. I was surprised the reviews weren't better for this place until I checked the "filtered" reviews and found a whole bunch of great reviews that simply don't show up in the search results of Yelp. I have no idea how Yelp's filtering system works, but I do know I've had reviews filtered out and I have no affiliation with any restaurants anywhere except as a diner. Keep it to breakfast here. Dinner is hit or miss. Recently got a prime rib "medium-rare", Not a touch of pink on it. Tough dry meat. This left me with the options of send it back to get a replacement that had been dropped on the floor, eat leather steak, or get a dimmer elsewhere.. The only reasonable option was to eat dinner elsewhere. On a different note, come here for breakfast. It is significantly more edible than the prime rib was. read more

Good food and great service. The chicken on the Cesar salad was so tender and juicy. The grilled cheese was ok. But the tater tots were crunchy and tasty. The pulled pork was good except for the onions. I was impressed with the service. They were nice, attentive & accommodating. I recommend trying this place. Lots of tv screens & in a good location.
