Went there by chance today and the food and service were outstanding! It happened to be happy hour and we sat at the bar. I ordered a bowl of chowder and fish and chips, my wife had the nachos. Both were excellent. Haddie was our server and had the best personality we have experienced in some time. I highly recommend that you try this spot. Can't wait to return! read more

My friend and I were the first customers through the door on opening day and our service and food was excellent. Hot and tasty and served very quickly. These are highly experienced and very successful restaurant owners with a vision to provide a quality dining experience for their customers. We just came back from a Happy Hour Dinner and it was very good. Wait staff is also very experienced and friendly, neat and clean in appearance. Yes, it is a sports bar and a very good one at that! My wife (then fiance) and I had our wedding rehearsal dinner at Backstop. I'm not familiar with the area, but our wedding venue was in Canby, so we researched local places. The staff at Backstop were easy to communicate with and always got back to me when I was leaving them messages (unlike other places in Canby that weren't as customer friendly). Our main waiter, Derrick, was fantastic; great customer service, attentive to all of our needs. The food was a hit with our party of 15, especially the pretzel appetizers. I'd asked them to have appetizers ready at the table when my group got there and they had no problem making that happen. It was just a really laid back, secluded space for our families to meet and chat. A stress free process and reasonably priced, which is all I could have asked for. read more

UPDATE: I stopped back by today to see if my first visit was a fluke. There was again nobody out front to greet any patrons but it looked as though there was only one person working and it sounded as though she may have been busy in the back. I was seated much quicker and ordered the Asian salad again, for consistency, and dined in instead of take out. The waitress was nice. My food came out exactly as I expected - MUCH better than my original order. The chicken was fresh and even had a bit of a char on the edges, which I loved. Everything came on the salad as noted on the menu. My drink did not go empty and the waitress even offered me a to go cup to take my iced tea. I took the remains of my salad back to my office and snacked on it for the afternoon. Much more impressed and will definitely be back to try new menu items! read more

First off, I hate giving bad reviews, this is a first. Reviews are subjective and it could have been an off night so please keep that in mind. I ordered the barbecue chicken dinner. The chicken was so over cooked I could barely eat any of it. The Cole slaw was not good at all and even corn bread was just ok, and the fries were cold. I was raised to eat everything on my plate, not tonight unfortunately. The wait staff was good, new but very nice. The bartender or owner was knowledgeable about the beer and gave good recommendations and was eager to assist. The couple I was with said the ribs they had were good but otherwise felt the same about the coleslaw, fries and corn bread. I'm open to trying again but it may be a while. The burgers looked good, next time I'll try one of those. read more

I have only been in the bar to eat and have a beverage and have always been treated well and like the food. Now for the however, my wife were in there on a Saturday morning and ordered breakfast. The hash browns were under cooked and we had asked them to be crisp, the omelets were just ok and what's up with only one piece of toast coming with your order. Unfortunately Canby has no decent food options and we usually have to head to another city to eat out...until Backstop opened. Backstop is our favorite Happy Hour stop in Canby. Good prices, selection and drinks. Yummy food! Regular menu is good. Prices a little high but very good food. Have never had a bad experience. Five of us, and everyone ordered something different. Didn't bother the wait staff. Orders came out quickly and hot. Not a noisy place, at least on a late Saturday afternoon. Wow! Where do I begin! I guess I can start with the food, was great tasting, great value & came out pretty quickly! The food can stand alone but the service was on another level! Leslie was incredible! She didnt miss a beat, she was fun lovin' and really just wow'd us. My husband even told her we havent seen customer service like this in a VERY long time. Cake Topper was we ordered a kids pasta & i asked for an extra plate so my 2 yr old can nibble on but without us asking she split the plate & my husband & I were gonna split a wrap & appetizer & she just had that split as well. We ate here twice in one week because of a basketball tournament. I am a very sensitive celiac so eating out can be tricky. Both times I had the nachos with the seasoned ground beef. So delicious and fresh, especially the fresh cilantro on top. Our service was good with both ladies very knowledgeable about our dietary restrictions. Yes Ken, we have been to the bar for happy hour. We have had a burger and it was fine.

We wanted to love this place amd were excited that the previous owner of Lil Cooperstown had taken over this spot, site of the former Canby Pub (home of the senior citizen waitresses!) The staff is friendly and responsive......no complaints there. The building itself is gorgeous and the new sports themed decor is well done and tasteful. The menu has variety but many of the options (gluten free and vegetarian substitututions) are not listed and you would not know you can substitue unless you ask. Our server mis-keyed our meal order and one of our lunches had to be returned for what was actually ordered (no compensation was offered). Everything took a long time to be delivered, which could be problematic for anyone restricted to an hour long lunch. It appeared that the wait staff were all a bit unorganized and frazzled and that many mistakes were being made with customers orders. The food was okay, not wonderful though. The chicken fried steak was the best of the three but, for the price, it should have been. We were surprised that with the experience of three or four other restaurants behind them, that the owners has yet to work out the kinks in this place...... read more

This place is our #1 'go to' for happy hour in Canby. Best prices, really tasty food & drinks, and we always get fast service with a smile :) We love this place!! The only downside (if you even want to call it that...) is the challenge of finding seating because they're always busy!! Wife's favorite is the fish tacos and I almost always get the burger with fries. Everything on the menu is good though. We even come for breakfast some weekends so wife can get a spicy bloody mary and her favorite eggs benedict. I've been here a couple of times in hopes that my initial experience was just a fluke. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. First time I was here I had the French dip. The meat in the French dip was soooo tough it was impossible to eat, let alone as what was supposed to be a yummy French dip :( The second time I came, I had the happy hour chicken bites as a starter. It's processed chicken folks, enough said. I hope at some point the food gets better because I would like to frequent the place, but right now I would not recommend it to anyone read more
