Once again, Yelp to the rescue! My mom lives in Yakima. My sister and I went to visit and wanted to take her out for a nice breakfast. None of us knew of any places, except Appleby's. Luckily, I had my smart phone. We all ordered the same thing; backwoods french toast (rolled in corn flakes) and the sausage patty. Both were delicious! The service was excellent. They were busy and the only table was in the back corner. They were attentive, without being too much so. Our coffee cups never went below half full. Friendly servers (I think the owner was our main server). Fun experience - will definitely visit again the next time I'm in town. read more

Went to eat on a monday morning with my sister and my 2 rowdy boys. We were given a choice to sit so i chose to sit near the bathroom like always. We were seated right away. Waitress was very nice and acknowledged my boys. Our food came out promptly. Waitress made sure coffee cups were full and water glasses were full also. Food was superb. My son spilled his water and waitress came right away to clean it up. I really appreciated that. French toast was my fave! Okay, restaurants sometimes get really, really, super busy. That happens, it's how they deal with it that counts. There were two of us, in town for a conference. We were told there would be a wait, which was cool, and then we were told that, due to a large party in the back room, there would be an additional 15 minute wait once we were seated. The warning was super classy, and allowed us to make an informed decision. We stayed. Once we were seated, the wait was a littlle shorter than promised. I had a small substitution on my order. The wait staffer asked a couple of clarifying questions, to make sure she got it right. When our food arrived, it was exactly right, prompt, and hot. After that, our coffee and water glasses were never neglected, and we were regularly checked on by at least four different staffers. Overall, this was a real class act. Next time I'm in town, this will be my on my agenda. Nice job! read more

Backwoods Café wont disappoint you. It may not have you saying I'm dying to try that place again, but it wont disappoint you. We stopped in based off yelp and the fact we could get Mexican food for breakfast while traveling through town. Not a lot of biscuits and gravy establishments on a Saturday morning are pushing the chorizo and egg vibe, but Backwoods is, and I like that. The place is small, in a bad location off a lil run down strip mall and hidden in the back. Not a lot going for this place as far as location and ambiance. The customer service seemed to pick up where the location and ambiance left off however, the friendly staff was responsive and eager to assist as well as attentive to waiting customers and clearing empty tables. The food was ok, the chorizo scramble was decent and the unique crunchy French toast was ok. The unusual part is NOTHING came with either dish other than what was stated as the menu item. The French toast came with nothing but a couple slices of French toast, the scramble was just a scramble, nothing else. No toast, no hash browns, no bacon... nothing. I also wouldn't say the portion sizes were very realistic. Me myself did not need a big 'ol country style platter sized breakfast so I was fine, but I believe most patrons would have been pretty disappointed at the portion size. One of my favorite places to eat for breakfast. Great customer service. The only issue is one person takes the order so if they're lots of customers it can be a bit before they get to you. The server always ensure your taken care of, which is why I keep coming back. When it's not so busy she will chit chat with you if you want. This is a family run Mexican oriented local breakfast place. The patrons seemed to be long standing customers. I had the chorizo eggs with tortillas. All very tasty. Horrible service. We were given our choice of 2 small tabes to sit in right in front of the wait station. Given that we were so close to the staff, you would have thought we would have been seen. However we were completely ignored until we walked out. The waitress took the order of 3 tables that came in after us, and when we finally got up to leave after waiting for over 10 minutes, she finally noticed us. We left and went to Mel's Diner. Worst service ever, and we will NEVER go back. My husband and I came here since my in-laws like it and Waffles Cafe was packed. Huge mistake. (Go to Waffles, its worth the wait). We got to Backwoods at 10am, and within 5 minutes there were 4-5 other couples or groups of 3 standing in the tiny entrance. One of the girls said we could sit at the table just inside the door but our order wouldn't be taken for about 10-15 minutes. So we sat down, and 20 minutes later our order was finally taken by the ONE waitress allowed to take orders. The other 3 girls there are there to refill waters, and bus tables apparently. That wasn't quite the irritating part since we were warned it would be a while. The most irritating part was that there were a couple tables in the back that sat 8 people and another for 6 people. They refused to seat people at those tables since the groups were only of 2-3. So everyone had to stand at the entrance and just watch everyone eat until a table opened. The entire hour we were there, no larger groups came in, and they could have easily sat others at those larger tables. And we counted at least 8 pairs of people that left once they saw the wait and so many people crowded into the front door. The food was not good in either of our opinions. I had a bacon and cheddar omelet that was watery and made it soggy. It had only a pinch of cheddar in it, and the bacon wasn't crispy. My husband had the logger omelet with gravy on top. It was supposed to have sausage and bacon and ham, but had mostly ham with a minimal amount of very fine sausage. And he said the gravy was very bland with very little sausage to the sausage gravy. The toast was cold. I definitely could have made better food at home, and wish I had after eating here. read more

Was that the business owner a Hispanic women seemed to cater to my Hispanic husband. I'm glad she did Cuz my husband is very picky. I'm white and blonde hair and for me EVERY TIME I went in she would ignore that my iced tea wasent filled after 3 visits to check on my husband with coffee refills and what ever he wanted ? I've ignored knowing my husband was fine ?! But I felt the owner if she had a bad day she took it out on the white girl. Amazing food. Interesting approach to taking orders, but we were happy to be seated, get coffee and waters and then wait the 20 minutes necessary for them to take our order. We were warned before we were sat that we would be waiting. The breakfast menu is extensive so the extra wait time was fine. We all ordered a different skillet and there was nothing left when we finished. Once the food is ordered is comes out fairly quickly and very hot which is always a bonus.
