Now called Taco MV, this is a fast but expensive taco spot. Whatever you've seen online before, pictured is the current menu. Tacos and a handful of sides. And yes, that is the price of ONE taco. We ordered eight tacos which unfortunately we did not get what we ordered (four of the eight were incorrect), especially since we had add-on sauces that we didn't get. They are not large in size so you'll want to get more than two (two was not enough); the only one that was the bang for the buck was the rafico (combo of beef, pork, and chicken). Food: I ordered a steak and short rib tacos with cilantro and guac. Surprisingly very good! I mean..I've had better ones from taco trucks here in LA but from a small town in Martha's Vineyard, it wasn't bad at all. If you want to get away from all the lobster roll and other seafood places, this is the place to go to. Their guac was a solid B, it had the right amount of lime/salt combo. I think it had minced garlic in there too. The chips were drizzled with some sort of spicier version of tajin. Service: service was great! All were very friendly Ambiance: they had a small area in the back with a few tables and a small area in the front as well. A hole in the wall, absolutely overpriced, very dirty (they wipe tables with a disgustingly smelly piece of cloth and the place is literally a dump) place with food so underwhelming even for Martha's Vineyard standard! Avoid at any cost! read more

I've had tacos living in Los Angeles, New York and Detroit which all have great taco places. For the Vineyard, this place is fun, and the tacos are very flavorful. I had the mushroom tacos and they were juicy and delicious! Only downside is they seem to run out of certain proteins and the some of workers don't always know how to communicate. It was our first time at Martha's Vineyard, we were here our second day and decided to take a stroll to find a quick bite to eat, my husband decided possibly Mexican food, I would not even feed this to the poor dogs in India! Has anyone ever eaten here more than once? Why? A slow, poorly equipped hole in the wall with little seating and mediocre (at best) food. How can you be out of fish on the vineyard? Wow. Delicious! this was really a great experience and the food was amazing. everyone was super nice and the food tasted warm and fresh and home cooked. I ordered a beef taco and yuca fries and it was definitely top ten tacos i've had. The yuca fries could have used some more sauce. The only thing i would change is that they only have six tables plus about four counter seats so it was difficult to find a place to sit. overall 9.5/10 food, 7/10 experience because of the lack of seating options read more

I don't get the positive reviews for this place. Service from the order taker / bartender was pitiful at best. She did not acknowledge us when walking in...we actually had to ask her to take our order. Also, just completely unfriendly throughout the process of ordering. They were out of basic materials for running a restaurant, like salt for margaritas, and napkins. Also put of some of the tacos I wanted to try. They actually had a roll of bathroom paper towels on the counter. Now on to the food; there were no real descriptions on the menu board so you really have no idea what your getting. I ordered a mushroom taco for my wife, thinking it would not be too spicy. It was crazy, hot spicy...so spicy that one bight was enough to ruin her appetite for anything else. The cauliflower taco has an Indian curry, which was also not mentioned anywhere. Ambiance is okay, if you don't mind eating on the dirty porch, or on funky tables that are literally in the street. Tacos are decent. We tried steak, chicken, fish and cauliflower tacos. Flavors were on the blander side but still good! Not spicy. Guacamole is delicious! Definitely recommend the house-made tortilla chips with salsa and guacamole. read more

I'm honestly not sure why this place has received so many good reviews. The food is meh - that's the best word to describe it. I got a fish rice bowl and cauliflower taco - the cauliflower was all mush. The fish lacked flavor, the rice had absolutely no seasoning in it. I truly think they just took a piece of grilled fish, laid it on plain brown rice and topped it with some sweet mango sauce. Nothing special at all. What really got to me was the young lady taking our orders at the front. Don't know her name, but today she was wearing a red off-the-shoulder top and white shorts. As someone who lives in NYC, I have built a tolerance for rudeness - but this girl was flat out, just rude, and for no reason. She rushed us in taking our order and when we asked her to describe a few of the tacos, it's as if we had caused her the biggest inconvenience in the world. It was extremely off-putting. This was more of a 2 1/2 * situation. Although everyone raved about this place, I just didn't see what all the hype was about TBH.... This is a small place with limited seating in the front, inside and back for about 35 people all together. The owner runs the cash register and can be rather stubborn. We spoke to him about the vegan nachos not being "fully" loaded and cold and he was rather dismissive. We had to go back and forth about an item we sent back and no one came back to check on us (we later saw our waitress outside on her phone). He demanded that his staff would make us a new order, however, everyone from our group finished their meal and we were on our way out the door. After one of the staff explained they didn't have all of the necessary ingredients to make the nachos, he reluctantly refunded us $10, but not the tax that I know that I initially paid! read more

One of those gem hole-in-the-wall eateries, where the tortillas are handmade in-house, and the flavors are amazing. The fish taco was great, but the clear winner was the falafel taco. Wow does this place suck. They toss some ground beef and a couple of chopped up raw onions pieces add a little sauce, and it a taco. Charge you 8 bucks for it. Margaritas are horrible as well, and the staff is as unfriendly as you could ask for. How this place is still in business baffles me. Makes Taco Bell look like gourmet food. read more

Pico was mush, nothing was fresh, and it's overpriced for the product you are getting. I would NOT recommend eating here. It's just bad.

The tacos were decent at best. The house chips were basically chips..... Almost no salsa or cheese on them. The size of the tacos are similar to taco bell and the quality just a step up. Unless you like your tacos plain, expect to pay at least $8 per taco. The place is primarily a pick up and go, but they charge "sit down" prices, without the quality. There are many restaurants in town, I would recommend avoiding this one. It's pretty amazing how many good reviews there are, but the reviews that are 2 and 1 star are more realistic. First things first...VERY EXPENSIVE. I decided to check this new place out and for starters, I walked in and the employees just starred at me. It's confusing on where exactly you have to order. I noticed it happened to several others as they walked in too. Also this place is ridiculously expensive and not even worth a try, tacos are simple and small, chips are plain. Originally from Providence, my ethnicity is from Central America, I can tell you that this place is the best for tacos and margaritas on the whole island hands down! I had the eggplant, mushroom and Rafico tacos (Ted's way) and a spicy margarita. Simply Outstanding. The owner came out introduced himself and gave me the food. Seriously - we went back for seconds and then thirds! YUM! If you're reading this in line for tacos you want three of the beef tacos + guac (or the falafel if that's more your thing) and an order of the house chips! Just trust me on this! Backyard Taco has tight quarters, but the food, charm, and fast service makes up for it, and it's pretty affordable as far as dinner out in Edgartown goes!
