This is a nice place for either a rage room or an escape room…read more A few weeks ago, I did a rage room experience here, which was my first time doing a rage room. Marc, the owner, was very nice and kind. He even allowed me to do a special request where I wore an outfit (which is a Morpshuit with t-shirt and shorts) underneath the gear used for the rage room. Very kind of him to accommodate this. I have never done a rage room before, so it was a unique experience. Shattering glass, and breaking things felt very liberating and it helped me release tension/anger. Additionally, at the very end, there was even another surprise where Marc even taught me how to throw ninja stars on the wooden board. It was super cool. At first, I couldn't get any ninja stars to stick, but on one of my final attempts, I actually did get the ninja star to stick, which was awesome!! I was pretty elated that I was able to do that! Anyways, shout out to Marc the owner for being very nice and accommodating. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a cool, friendly place to do a rage room or an escape room. Also took a while before someone came out to help (I think they were in the back assisting maybe another customer?) but some signage would help. - Waivers could be sent prior to arrival to save on time since it was a google form - staff could be more welcoming and better at explaining. I understand it may be sketchy to go to a customer's car to evaluate items brought from home since it could be a risk to the staff, but I think it could either be instructed earlier before arrival OR simply just state that you cannot leave the business. The delivery of the comment made by the staff was not very smooth (almost felt like implying we were bringing something bad or wrong). - A timer inside the room might be helpful as it's hard to keep track of time once you're destroying things. - Phone "mount" could be better secured with a clasp or something because one bump and our phone fell on the ground where there's shards and scraps everywhere. This could have easily scratched the phone. - Room felt cramped, but understand that may be limited by the size of the store space. - Half of the group was arriving late, in which I shared upfront and thought that the staff would assist in getting them as ready as possible before our first group came out to swap, but when I came out, I saw that they had not even begun to change. I understand the face shield and gloves are limited quantities, but they could have started fitting in the other items like jumpsuit and face coverings. - Also as we were swapping, I ended up giving the second group the instructions when it really should have been the staff to give them the run through. It felt very disorganized during the swapping. For the price, I think it would be nice if each group received at least one larger item and not just cups, plates, and glass. All-in-all, it was fun to let out some rage by wrecking things and not having to clean it up. My friends and I did enjoy this different experience. Also fun to watch them from the room cam inside the Axe Room as they rage.

Jose was personable, welcoming, and incredibly helpful with tips that actually made us better throwers. Beyond that, he took time to chat with us and connect, which made the whole experience feel relaxed and fun rather than intimidating. He genuinely elevated the entire visit. Axe throwing alone was cool, but the added game features took it to the next level and kept things exciting the whole time. We came for the activity, stayed for Jose, and are already planning to come back with friends. We're especially excited to try their glow-in-the-dark setup next time. Surprisingly this activity was more technique than strength so no worries if you're not strong. Definitely needs a lot of shoulder and wrist angling so watch out. There's a bar inside with light snacks and non-alcoholic options too. Also a merch area if you want to buy axe throwing merchandise lol. When you actually get the hit in, the sounds they make on the wooden boards is really nice. We love how escape rooms now accommodate duos, and especially appreciate that rooms are now private, and we are able to be silly and competitive and immature with the people who matter. I mean, imagine being stuck on a schooner or deserted island with people you don't know - it would be a streaming series! Oh, wait ... Well, Back in Time is one of our favourite companies when it comes to escape rooms that are immersive and faithful to theme and story, but we're a little embarrassed to say that we were excited to try Blackbeard's Treasure because of a streamed show, excellent, though it be. Yes, we could have chosen to do this particular escape room because of the book(s), the movie, the theme park or the dinner adventure, but, no, it was Black Sails, just taken off that streaming service, that piqued our interest! The mall where we usually play Back in Time is under renovation, so we played our Friday afternoon game at their temporary space in a small strip mall not far away and just as easy to get to. Parking was good right outside at 3:30pm on Friday, which was their first game of day, and we arrived just about the same time as Harrison, our very enthusiastic game host, who had just escaped (haha) from the same traffic jam as we had. We were shown into the waiting room, and although this was not a permanent location, the lobby looked exactly as it did in the mall, and it was nice that the clean no-frills restroom was located at end of hallway inside the business instead of outside in the mall. Our entry into the game was heralded by a preview video which complemented what we knew about Blackbeard, especially fresh off Black Sails - but game (unlike TV series) was definitely family-friendly. The room was spacious for our duo, and would fit four in a group comfortably. On the whole, the room was a little dark, but the décor was in theme and music was ambient. Blackbeard's Treasure was a linear game, where most of the puzzles were one & done, even though there were some red herrings (of course, pirates ...). We categorise it as a 3G or third generation room, meaning it comprised a lot of use of magnets, but also a lot of nice old locks. Happily, there were no glitches at all, and everything worked to our success at 52:02. Our very favourite part of the game was being fired on by cannons, and although we wish we could understand the parrot - Captain Flint shore was purty! - we had no least favourite puzzles at all. Harrison was fantastic because she made sure we could read the clues on the in-room timer and clue screen when it was clear the bird was speaking in not an escape roomer's language! Everything made sense, and, once in the room, we didn't miss the mall at all. In fact, we took advantage of the promotion that allowed us to take photos in the room with props, and our gamemaster did a terrific job with both their camera (and thank you for getting the photo to us immediately!) and ours. You give your ID to keep on file and they go over the different throwing methods and how to change the background screen where you're throwing. I thought this was really cool! There's also alcohol/drinks available for purchase. There are also pinball machines in the front and a rage room in the back that looked like something I should be doing lol. It was a fun experience throwing the axes and having some friendly competition with my husband. Even if you're not in an axe throwing mood, being able to hang out here and play pinball or drink is really cool too and the location is perfect because it's in downtown Upland next to everything. So this review is going to be a little different than some of the other ones…read more I pulled into a parking lot today where Dragging Axe was set up, to buy a secondhand double stroller from someone on Facebook for my toddler and infant children. I got my stroller, wheeler back to the car, and the seller left. The stroller wasn't fitting in my car. I tried to take off the wheels. I tried the trunk. I tried the backseat. I called my husband seven times, my parents twice each. I stood there in the parking lot googling videos and also trying not to panic because no one was answering. The Internet had said that the stroller would fit into a Corolla, so I had no idea why it wasn't working. No one in my family with our larger cars was picking up their phones or answering their texts. My friends that did respond and offer to help were forty minutes away, with their own toddler children. I couldn't accept that. So I waited and kept futilely fiddling with the stroller. One of the owners must have noticed that I was struggling, because she very kindly came over and asked me if I needed help. I sheepishly admitted that yes, I'm an idiot and could not seem to get the stroller into my car. She was patient and figured out that the double stroller actually folded twice. Then, she even helped me put it on the trunk. I can't even begin to express how thankful I am. I was so flustered, I didn't even catch her name. Seriously, I had been on the verge of tears because I was stranded and had no idea when my family would get back to me. She looked like the angel she was. Can't even begin to express my appreciation. Anyway, I highly recommend them. If anything, they are kind and attentive and the latter is pretty important when you're going to be around a bunch of flying axes.
