This review is for their Too Good To Go promotion. It is not worth it. Supposedly, you are getting $18 worth of baked goods for $6 and they gave me 5 pieces. A cute donut shop in the same shopping plaza as Paris Baguette. Service is friendly. There is no place to sit down inside so this is more of a to-go place. I have tried several of their items, from the regular, chocolate, and cinnamon bitsos (Filipino donuts) and cream cheese cookies to their regular donuts (fruity pebbles and chocolate) and several mochi donuts. The flavor boosts via the syringes are fun but not necessary in my opinion. The mochinut donuts are light and chewy with a crisp exterior. They have a bunch of different flavors of glaze toppings. Flavors range from the traditional American to the culturally inspired. The empanadas were a hefty hand held size. Delicious ground pork and potato filling. The potatoes are diced in small squares. Bad Bakers is appropriately named, I can tell you that much!! It's a grab and go joint, no indoor seating. They have a lot of baaaaad goodies for you to choose from. I'd say their pricing is reasonable compared to other bakeries. They offer some pretty wild creations! Not sure if they offer different items daily, but if you're a donut lover you have to try this place at least once! They also sell cookies and a few types of bread. They had Ube Cookies the day I went, and I wouldn't have tried it if it wasn't for the girl behind the counter. I told her I'm not a fan of ube, but she said everyone loves it so I got one. It wasn't bad, but it really didn't sweep me off my feet. Wouldn't get it again. The kicker for me was the dulce de leche syringe that I got to inject into one of the donuts. Say whaaaaaat?!? Upon walking into the shop, you definitely know you've stepped into something special because, unlike old time donut shops, their display cases are tall and filled with an amazing variety of donuts. A full dozen of assorted donuts is $27: a good way of trying their stuff! They also sell fruit-based drinks, coffee, staxx (also known as Señorita bread), ube staxx, frozen lumpia, kronut holes, ube cookies, ensaymadas, leche flan, pan de ube, pan de sal, bizcocho, and fills. While I love their variety of donuts and adventurous flavors, I find that the texture of the donuts I've tried falls short of my expectations after several visits. Sad because I really wanted to love them. My favorite type of donuts are crullers; theirs were airy (as they should be) but not as pillowy-tender as I've had from other places. At my most recent visit, the music was playing so loudly that I could barely hear the staff talking to me - and I had to have her repeat herself 3 times. Stopped by Bad Bakers in Elk Grove for the first time and it was divine. I came for the Ube Staxx and left with so much more. Came in on a Saturday morning and was surprised that there were no other customers inside since I heard this place can get slammed on the weekends. I was warmly and promptly greeted by a young lady who helped to fill my order. As a first timer, I was a little overwhelmed with all of the goodies in the display case, I didn't know where to start because I was in complete awe. The lady helping me was super patient with my questions and never made me feel rushed as I carefully examined each flavor of donuts and treats in the display case. I'm a big fan of kronuts but also equally love mochi donuts, so the Bad Bakers morning display was a dream. My final order included: - 15 Ube Staxx - 2 Ube Mochi Donuts - 1 Pandan Mochi Donut - 2 S'morgasbord Kronuts - 1 Bananarama Kronut - 1 Ham and Cheese Roll - 1 Hot Dog and Cheese Roll The Ube Staxx were the definite highlight. I love ube and I love senorita bread. Fuse the two together and you have the Bad Bakers Ube Staxx. Sweet, sticky, ube goodness. The mochi donuts were also fantastic. Good texture and tasted true to their namesakes. Kronuts tasted freshly baked and were definitely a good hybrid between a donut and croissant. The store ran out of flavor syringes and only had strawberry. Not sure what other flavors existed but I would have loved to have the option of other flavors. The only items that I probably would pass on the next time would be both of the savory rolls. They didn't taste fresh and I just wasn't a big fan of the liquid cheese and crust of the roll. They also don't open super early so you can't grab donuts on the way to work at 5 or 6 am like other spots. As a child I would get excited at the sight of a new park or indoor kids play facility (remember Discovery Zone?) being constructed. As an adult, I get excited to see a new cookie shop or family-owned restaurant make its debut in my neighborhood. While going for a morning walk, I stumbled upon the recently opened Bad Bakers donut shop. I immediately pulled out my phone and bookmarked the shop within the Yelp app (one of the most useful features ever)! When my son and I walked into the shop, we were immediately greeted by an employee behind the counter who was catering to the numerous customers ahead of us in line. When it was our turn, we ordered two Unicorn Clouds donuts, a Cookie Kraving, and a donut that resembled miniature donut holes bound together to form a regular size donut circle (I forget the actual name of the donut). Unfortunately, this shop does not have donut holes (only my little unorthodox son would request donut holes from a specialty donut shop), so my son had to settle for the latter. While checking out, the cashier highly recommended that I opt for the vanilla custard-filled syringe that I could use to inject the Cookie Kraving donut...I'm so glad that I took her up on this suggestion! When we arrived at home, we decided to try the Unicorn Clouds donuts first. Unfortunately, both donuts were dry and we were under the impression they had been sitting for a while. My son generally devours anything sweet, so I knew something was wrong when he took one bite and set it aside. However, the feelings of disappointment and void quickly dissipated after we injected the Cookie Kraving donut with vanilla custard and took a bite! I'm not going to waste time here trying to describe how delicious this pairing was, I just suggest that you drop everything that you're doing & pick up one or two before they sell out. Overpriced Dropped by on a Saturday a little before 1:00p because my friend has been wanting Bad Bakers since they opened their new location in Elk Grove... I obliged and came by to purchase some of their gourmet donuts to bring to her. The store is in a nice location on Elk Grove Blvd at the Capital Reserve plaza. They are one of the 2 or 3 of the businesses in this square, it is a pretty brand new area. No shortage of parking spaces here on a private lot. I was the only customer at the time and at that moment the selection was slim plus they ran out of the syringes (extra filling for the kronut). The syringes are usually filled with chocolate, strawberry, banana, and dulce de leche custard. I chose a variety of half a dozen of what was left from their display case -- 1) Couch Potato kronut - potato chips and chocolate 2) S'morgasbord kronut - s'mores 3) Cookie Kraving donut - Oreo cookie crumbles 4) Breakfast of Champions donut - bacon, Rice Krispies cereal, maple coffee icing 5) Unicorn Clouds - cake doughnut with cotton candy icing, rainbow sprinkles and pouf of pink spin sugar on top 6) Chocolate donut Total was $17. I did not see any of their bread or savory baked goods available (empanadas, lumpia, hot dog, etc) or I would've gotten some of those too. I heard this place had a soft opening on Tuesday so I decided to check it out. It is located just East of the Lyon's Realty building. Good parking since I think its the only business in this strip mall. I cam a little after 9AAm and there were quit a few people waiting in line. It went pretty fast. There were two girls working the counter and a few people in the back making the goodies. The case was semi full. Most of the mochi was out. Two different cronuts, berry and chocolate. I got both. They had a few with toppings like froot loops and other cereals but I'm not really into that. I didn't really film the case since the glare was so bad. I wish I could. I got the stuffed lemon and chocolate. A sprinkled old fashion, glazed and glazed mochi. All of them were so fresh and yummy. I will have to go back again and try some more. They have a nice location right off of Elk Grove Blvd in a new shopping development with plenty of parking. I came in this morning on a Friday, happy to find that I was only 3rd in line. The line grew longer and longer though, so go early if you can! They are still in soft opening so some donuts aren't available yet. I still got a pretty good selection of half dozen (bananarama cronut, s'mores raised, filled mixed berry, and chocolate and lemon mochi). I also noticed they had guava senorita bread which I've never tried before, so of course I had to grab some of that! All the donuts look fun but I should have known better because just by looking at them in the glass case, I just knew they weren't going to be fresh. Took a little over 35 minutes on a Saturday morning around 10:00 a.m. Not worth the wait. donuts looks good, unfortunately the taste/flavor doesn't match. I would only go back for the mochi donuts, which were the first mochi donuts that I've had that actually had chewy mochi consistency. However, some didn't really have flavor (Ube in particular). The raised donuts (particularly meant for the fillings) had a bit of a weird, kinda tart/sourish flavor to them. Cronuts were heavy and not flaky & "croissant" like, except for heavy oiliness (go to Bakers donuts on Florin for good cronuts). Traditional cake donuts were simply not worth the price, and honestly I've had better. Injection fillings were meh..got strawberry, lemon, Bavarian cream (which the worker called vanilla), and dulce de leches/caramel. Wish they had chocolate. Helped give some flavor to some of the donuts, which were otherwise relatively flavorless or pretty dry, but generally just messy to use. I didn't like that you had to pay first, then pick the donuts (didn't look like anyone else liked that either). People want to see what's available first..so it got really confusing in there because we were all trying to look at the donuts first then go to the register. The guy in front of us moved the line marker things that were supposed to be directing us towards the register when we entered, so when we came in we were confused about where to go or how it worked. There was one girl working the register and she had one person helping her fill the donut box orders after paying, which they probably could've used two people dedicated to just filling orders once paid. Neither were helpful or very friendly. Overall, did not have a very good experience. Came here around 9am on a thursday morning with some friends! Parking is plentiful and its easy to find. When we went nobody else was here yay, so we looked around. And a tray of some bread i think. Cronuts come with the syringe thing, and ALL their donuts are really fancy, covered in various sugars, cereals or glazes. Unfortunately no gf options on weekdays, but they WILL have gf options on weekends! I got a pandan mochi donut and almost died when they said it was $3.25 . I have never had to pay more than 2.50 for a mochi donut??!! Even in socal and the bay area! My friends got half dozens and the price was around $17, which is the price of a FANCY dozen at a normal donut shop. But, with that said, I don't mind paying more as long as it's really good. Bless up tho bc they gave free señorita bread as a sample to us. They don't have any indoor or outdoor seating btw so we ate in the car lol. The mochi donut was dissapointing. The glaze is overly sweet and not a hint of pandan (i should've known since pandan isnt neon green hahaha). My friend tried the glazed ube mochi donut and also said it had no ube flavor. I've been to Bad Bakers in Natomas, so I was happy to see one in EG. I learned this only recently but "bad" stands for "bread and donuts" LOL! We decided on just getting a pandan mochi donut and a pack of strawberry bread. I was hoping for guava cream bread since I saw a friend post about it a few days ago! The mochi donut was a bit dense for mochi, and they put A LOT of icing...could do with less icing because it got pretty sweet but the pandan flavor was decent. It tasted a bit coconut-y as well. The strawberry bread was ok. It was soft, but on the sweeter side like strawberry jam. The ingredients noted cream cheese but I didn't taste or see any when I ate it. The line placement could also use a bit of work, since people have to wait in line to get to the cashier, tell the cashier how much of each item they want, and then walk back to make their picks. It was a bit inefficient, because the paid customers walked back into the line where customers who haven't paid were looking at the case. Overall, great addition to Elk Grove. UBE STAX (Aka ube flavored senorita bread) Yummy! UBE CRUMBLE COOKIE not too crispy, had a soft center. HOT DOG BUN Cheese is crispy. Bread has a good bite to it The hot dog is soft Yummy. JALAPEÑO AND CREAM CHEESE ROLL Surprised this had a cream cheese and some kind of nacho cheese mix sprinkled inside. The bread was cooked perfectly Tasted like a bagel with jalapeño cream cheese We're definitely coming back to try different things in their menu. Everything looks amazing!!
