I like the atmosphere of this place, and some of their seasonal beers are really quite good. The regular rotation of beers is okay, but I wish they had some of their darker seasonal beers available more often. I'm also not a fan of the annual mug club membership model, but that seems to be the growing trend. I do have to say that Good Bites, the food truck that's affiliated with this place, provides great food. It's worth a visit just to have the food! UPDATE: In response to questions I've received about my disliking of Bad's mug club model, it's not that I dislike mug clubs at all. However, I am a much bigger fan of the pay once model employed by EagleMonk, Cheboygan Brewing Company, and others. I do not care for the annual mug club model used by Bad, Ellison, and other microbreweries. A good sized space and great beer selection makes for a really good time. My friend and I ventured out here as he wanted to show me one of the microbreweries in the Lansing area and I was not disappointed. The beers were very affordable and quite delicious and they had a great selection. They have a good mix of summer and fall beers that fit perfectly with the weather. Outside they had a food truck selling New American food. While I didn't eat anything, everything I saw did look tasty. We sat outside for a while at some picnic tables. Eventually people got up and we got to sit around a comfy fire. It really adds to the ambience. Ultimately, I'd definitely go again and would totally recommend this place to a friend. read more

Bad Brewing is an okay beer house. They're not really a bar (no liquor) or a pub (no food). The locals are very friendly here. And the service is good; last time I was there the beer-tender let me borrow his phone charger (nice guy). The only reason I give it such a low rating is the beer, frankly, isn't to par with the competition (and the competition is stiff in Michigan) and they don't offer any other services (like food and booze). As a place to swing into and kill time in Mason: Bad Brewing is 5 stars, as a brewery Bad Brewing doesn't pull it's weight. I hope Bad Brewing does well and I'm sure I'll be back the next time I'm in Mason and the time after that. But, their isn't much to do in Mason besides Bad Brewing (honestly). read more

Limited menu. Fries are definitely fried....over fried. And you pay before you even get your food. Unheard of where I'm from. And the protocol to get in makes you feel like an alien. Don't let these random bad reviews spoil the fact that this is a great place. Take in mind that it's a brewery, not a restaurant or pub. They have beer and beer and more beer, that's it. Staff was friendly and knowledgable, beer is cold and tasty. Mug club is pretty cool bc you get to keep your mug if you don't want to renew the next year. This brewery has some good beers! The names are pretty hilarious too. My three stars comes from the lack of service we received. There was only 1 person working the whole brewery and it was packed! He just couldn't keep up. We didn't mind hanging out but it look a really long time to order, let alone get our beers. The guy working the food truck outside was pretty prompt once he arrived and started taking orders. The food from the truck was great! I recommend the nachos. Overall, probably wouldn't be back but I'm glad I checked it out! read more

Beers & ciders are awesome. Grape cider is our favorite. Tastes just like Welch's grape juice, but packs a punch @ 9.5%. Atmosphere is friendly & laid back. Bad Brewing will always hold a special significance, as it's where my now-fiance and I decided (over some tasty brews) where to live together. Nostalgia aside though, BBCo still deserves five stars. It's not often a microbrewery could honestly be described as "quaint," however, the quaintness of Downtown Mason seems to rub off on all of its small businesses. I loved the ambiance of the poured concrete bar, which lent it a clean, industrial feeling. We were welcomed by a top-notch bartender who was very attentive. There's plenty of parking and, if you're feeling adventurous, a helmet discount on Sundays I believe. We walked away with a growler that we will certainly be back to refill. read more

Talk about your diamond in the rough. You wouldn't expect a little brick hole in the wall in the middle of little mason to have a craft tap room that would rival any in hipper locals. It is a great place to just chill and read, with a lot of plush seating in quiet corners. The beer selection was good, with a lot of different flavor profiles from IPAs to good porters and stouts. Great beer, great service, no food. If you want food, you can bring it in. Sometimes the food truck is there. I like grabbing a bag of popcorn from Keens or a sandwich from The Vault. The best bet is No Stout About It. It comes on Nitrogen and doesn't taste like coffee. read more

I wish they allowed 1/2 stars. I really love the atmosphere here and the very friendly environment. I have read some bad reviews here, but I am a pretty big beer enthusiast and know my beer. While most breweries cannot be everything to everyone, this one hit my areas. The Kracken was very good. The Tripel was ok. I have had better from other places like Bastone. I also liked Hop Dancer, but the winner was Hop Resolution. Very good double IPA where the hoppiness is not stepped on too much. I am in Mason every week for work and this will be my regular stop after my meetings. Better than sitting in Detroit Rush Hour later in the day. read more

My wife and I enjoyed a couple of their beers last Friday afternoon. Small place but expanding. We talked with the owner as he was painting as part of the expansion. Very nice gentleman and the bartender was very friendly as well. I had a couple of black beers which I really enjoyed and my wife had two of the Belgian Tripels which she raved about. They don't have their own kitchen and the food truck that services them wasn't due until 3pm so we ate elsewhere. They do provide menus for many of the local restaurants, some of which deliver or are within easy walking distance. They allow you to eat what you bring in. read more

I DO NOT recommend this place. I will not be back nor never return! This happened on 1/4/19 A group of us, 8, who are each 30+ years of age and all working professionals decided to rent one of their igloos for the night. We had never been to Bad Brewing before, but decided we would try it as most of us attending enjoy craft beer. I was pumped and had been looking forward to our night out all week. We arrived, dropped off our bag of blankets and game in the igloo, as you're allowed to bring blankets because you're outside, and a couple of us went up to grab beers from the bar while the others stayed in the igloo and got settled. (There is no beer service to the igloos - a bit inconvenient, but not a deal breaker.) Two of us waited at the bar for service and were greeted by a server/bartender who we later learned was the owner. We asked him about the menu, asked about any beers close to ML or BL as we had 2 non-craft drinkers in the igloo. I'm no bettin' man, but I'd bet they get asked this question weekly. We placed an order for 4 beers and 2 samples. My friend asked why they didn't offer pitchers b/c that would be easier than moving 8 ppl in and out of an igloo for three hours to order beer was going to be difficult. He said, "We have pitchers, we just don't serve beer in them. We've never served beer in a pitcher for 7 years." Smart remark, but again, meh, not a deal breaker. Here's where it gets interesting. While enjoying our beers, all purchased at the bar inside, the bartender/owner, walks around the outside of our igloo and starts peering in. With plenty of beers on the table he points to his own ale, that's almost gone, on the table and says, "That's not one of my beers. That's too light to be mine." We all immediately look at him with discern. We explain that is HIS beer; would he like to try it?; come on in and check it out. Then he says that they've had a lot of "issues" with people bringing in outside alcohol and "it's his livelihood at stake." We said to him again, come on in so he could taste it himself. He declined and went back inside. WOW. He was entirely unprofessional about the whole situation and if he's had issues with this before, he definitely should have already devised a way to handle it more appropriately and professionally. This pretty much ruined our entire night. We stayed and finished our rounds, but we definitely got the feeling we weren't welcome and that we were being watched. One member of our group went inside 10-20 minutes later to used the restroom. Upon entering, he overheard the owner accusing us of bringing in our own alcohol to another bartender. And again, this is 10-20 minutes after the initial confrontation. How unprofessional. The member of our group did tell the owner that if he wanted to come down and check our igloo, go through our bags, check our coats for anything, come on down and do it. If not, then drop it. All the while, another igloo's member is carrying coolers into it! Our group member began to walk away, and the owner started to run his mouth again about our group. At the end of the night, we had spent over $100 on beer, Omer $70 on food, and how much ever it cost to rent the igloo. Bad Brewing lived up to its name, bad, just bad. What a terrible experience. We will never return. I will tell my friends what happened and I will make sure they know what kind of unprofessional, non-welcoming, establishment this is. read more

Love this place and its beers! I am an IPA drinker and always have several regular or double IPAs to choose from. Resolution DIPA is amazing. My drinking friend said the Nitro No Stout About it was as good as any he has tasted. Lastly, the food truck is amazing. Everything we have tried has been great. Cannot wait to go back. read more

I was very excited to rent an igloo and spend time with friends yet we had HORRIBLE service from the owner and workers. 8 adults who came from work were accused from the owner for bringing our own beer, being drunk, and pouring our own beer into one of his cups (which we never did) and continued to be pestered long after. The owner stood outside our igloo staring (1 beer into the night) and stated that the beer in the cup was too clear to be his (although it was his!) and that we were drunk. We offered him to taste the beer, check our bags, and check our tabs with the cups we had on the table because this was untrue and we wanted no problems we were just 4 couples out for drinks and conversation. We found him standing behind us awkwardly then looking through windows watching us (which is fine I guess, watch all you want....but weird) as we continued to drink his beer and enjoy conversation amongst each other. We would have left but we had already rented and put the igloo on our credit card so we figured be the bigger person for now and just continue on with the night. Living in Mason I have heard that if you aren't a regular you aren't treated as well but my husband and I thought that it could never be true. We live in Mason and invited 3 families from Okemos to share in this great igloo experience but now 4 families are completely turned off and will never return. I am just truly saddened by the professionalism and interaction with the owner and his staff of this bar, my family along with the other 3 will never return. We will also be letting our other friends and family know our experience. Horrible experience! read more

This place has good beer. But if I had to rate this place on customer service, I would give it a negative 5 stars due to the customer service of a female bartender. I have lived in Los Angeles for a number of years....came here to visit for a wedding, and I have experienced some "unpleasant service employees." In Southern California.....well this gal took the cake. We won't be going back there even if the brew was good. To the manager or owner....hire better staff. You will make much more money and people will come back. Remember... For every customer that had a great experience they tell 1 person. For every customer that has a bad experience they tell 10. My niece and her husband were in town from New York visiting. We went there because they like trying craft beers and it's local. Seating was limited so we asked 2 guys if we could sit at their table that could accommodate the 5 of us as well as them. They said sure so my nephew was buying rounds for the table. We played cards and averaged 4 drinks per person over 4 hours while we played games of Euker. My nephew went up for another order because service at the table is non existent and he was told that we had to have a round of waters. No big right!? We each tossed a water back and then went to proceed with our order and they would not serve us. We were not belligerent or louder then anyone else we were being family orientated with 2 designated drivers that we let them know that we were being responsible. It didn't matter. I am a local and I'm not a drinker. I was having the ciders because it was holidays with family so I broke the norm. My perception of my experience is that because we weren't regulars we were singled out. Other people that are locals such as myself that are regulars were louder then us and had beverages like us didn't get treated this way! Service at our table was nonexistent therefore my nephew went up and was buying the rounds for 5 people at the bar. Maybe that's why, I felt sad that it reflected poorly on a good thing that's local that turned out poorly! Please note the food is way overpriced as well.
