Went in to get a dozen bagels and it took 40 minutes. I waited in line number 1 to order. I told the woman I wanted the two everything I ordered in a separate bag. I saw she didn't write it down so I told her again. I then went to line number two. While. Waiting I saw that they messed up the price of a customer in front of me who placed a catering order. Another customer came back because they put his Tuna salad in a broken container and it leaked. When they finally got to me the everything were not in a separate bag as I asked. As for the bagels, they were supermarket quality. They were mushy and squashed. No crisp to the outside. Then everything bagel had next to nothing on it. I will not return here and would not recommend it. If you're not picky, go to stop and shop and skip the hassle. Otherwise find another bagel store. read more

The last 3 times I went here my bagel was wrong. Each time I've gotten the same girl, she's young and speaks good English so I don't understand the problem. This time I repeated multiple times and she kept saying "I know ma'am" but it was still wrong. She writes it down properly so I don't understand. How hard is it to get butter and cream cheese right? Be Alerted!!! If you are ordering seeded bagel, make sure they will put a good one into the order bag. Thus already happened to me couple of times. They have couple of very nice, full of Poppy seeds bagels on display, but the one they fulfil your order with has a very little of seeds, and looks almost plain. Damm good bagels but I think Eli's in Matawan are about as good. The also have deli stuff and a lot of different coffees that are not as good as Starbucks, but certainly are the equal of Wawa! Editing my review. This store is back to making constant mistakes. Again today, I did not get what I asked for. I wanted an egg everything bagel, toasted, with light butter. I also asked for the bagel to have a lot of the spices/seeds on it. That's it. So I get a plain everything bagel, hardly any seeds, and butter soaked through it. Was it that hard of an order? I ask for lots of seeds because they only put the seeds/spice on one side now. So you get the one side a boring plain bagel, and the other side has some spice. Unfortunately this has become common with bagel stores lately. I miss the old days. Last time I was there my order was wrong also, as was the man before me. He asked for eggs and bacon on a bagel and got only eggs. They spent some time figuring out how much more to charge him for bacon. They didn't offer to pay him for his time wasted. They've got a deli kind of grill here, and cold cuts, and some prepared salads, lots of coffees and drinks, muffins... That stuff is good, if you get what you ask for. An annoying thing, and it's not unique to this bagel place alas, is they run out of the best bagels too early. WHY bagel stores don't get the hint and make more egg-everything bagels as compared to sesame seed or plain is beyond my comprehension. They serve great bagels that's closest to what best NYC bagels has to offer. That's all you need to know. So why 2 stars? Because they require $10 minimum for payments via credit card or you pay 25c more. I found this out today when I bought less than $6 worth of bagels...as I was paying the cashier pointed to this little sign when I handed over my debit card. I fumbled in embarrassment as I grasp for singles and coins in my pockets and then she said "...or you can just pay 25 cents more." I sighed in disgust and said to go ahead and charge more because I didn't want to hold up the line. Look, we're at the age there are more transactions made using digital payments and stores who abide by this silly policies that inconvenience the customers even in the smallest degree is just, well, annoying. Growing up in Central Jersey I have pretty high standards when it comes to bagels. About 18 years ago it seems to me that the idea of the small? dense bagel started to fade--replaced by these increasingly massive airy concoctions. As long as you've adjusted to these types of bagels, which are generally the main bagels we see in stores these days, this place is perfectly fine. It measures up well to bagels i Hightstown and Cranberry. I definitely hear what the other reviewer is saying about the credit card charge; hopefully they move over to Square sometime soon--but you have to cut small businesses some slack. They also serve egg white sandwiches which is a plus. read more

I've come to the Bagel Bazaar on Applegarth Road many times now since moving to Monroe Township, and this morning's breakfast run was the straw that finally broke the camel's back. The one star on this review is solely because the food is okay - full disclosure though, it's been many months since I tried one of their bagels because the last time I did, it fell far far far below other bagels I have had in NJ (Terrace Bagels in Freehold) and NYC (literally any bagel place in the city, compared to Bagel Bazaar). I usually just go for a breakfast sandwich on a kaiser roll. However, this morning was just a terrible mix of horrendous service and very sub-par food. First, they "lost" my order for over 15 minutes. "Lost" because I can't figure out if they forgot about my order or if the guy at the register didn't realize it was sitting right next to him for 15 minutes. I tried to get anyone's attention to ask, but I was very nicely ignored by them all. Eventually someone behind the register realized I had been standing there while at least 10 other customers paid for and received their orders. Luckily, this time my order was actually right (I've had them mess up my order before, like adding cheese when I clearly asked for no cheese, adding random condiments that were not asked for, etc.) But they seemed to have run out of tin foil behind the counter, because both breakfast sandwiches that I brought home were only partially wrapped, to the point that when I went to pull out the first sandwich, it fell out of the wrapping and fell apart in the bag. But after reassembling the pork roll and egg, I did enjoy my breakfast (again, this is why the one star). This will officially be my last trip to the Applegarth Bagel Bazaar. I'd rather drive 30 minutes into Freehold or Princeton to get a nice weekend breakfast or just learn how to make everything myself, because that would be infinitely better than coming back here. read more

I go their often, good bagels and service. However, I would never get a breakfast from the grill there as the morning cook never wears gloves and touches the food regularly. That includes picking up meats and cheese and pushing down on the bag when cutting, again with bare hands. read more

Was in a hurry this morning . This place was on the way to my appointment so I stopped in for a quick bagel sandwich and coffee. The atmosphere was the same as my first visit of 2 years ago- a few tables in the front, food service and counters on the left and coffee on the right. At the food counter, my order was promptly taken by an affable, pleasant person. I ordered a toasted everything bagel with one welldone fried egg, welldone bacon and pepper jack cheese. There was adequate selection of coffee. The latter is self help. I got a medium container of dark roast with some Costa Rica blend added. The coffee was good, as good as I recall from 2 years ago. However, the bagel was smaller in size, with less seasonings on either side. There was 1 strip of welldone bacon, possibly 2. I couldn't tell. This place pales in comparison to my usual and favorite Bagel and Deli store, Caesar's, in Hamilton. The latter charges $3 less for the same combo except the bagels are larger, have more seasonings and there's more bacon. Unfortunately, Caesar's is several miles and 20 minutes away. All in all, this place is ok. read more

I have been coming to this place for years. Only because I live in this town and I am too lazy to go anywhere else. I want to warn anyone with less then an hour to wait for a simple sandwich to go elsewhere. The service is an ABOMINATION!!! I understand that you only want to hire Spanish speaking help but the same ladies have been there for 4 years and still don't understand simple bagel vocabulary. Things like Sesame Bagel, Vegetable Cream Cheese or dark toasted baffle these people. I went in today at 11:20 am to get a dozen bagels and they were out of Plain, Whole Wheat and Everything Bagels. This happens all the time. Try making more bagels and you might even make more money. Not to mention that if you want a seat you will have to get there before 4 am to beat all of the ancient people that spend their entire day in this place. PLEASE I beg you go ANYWHERE else but here. It's a typical cheap bagel shop. No real egg is harmed in the making of their sandwiches. Typical BEC will run you 4$. I would avoid their coffee and run down to WaWa. Their coffee Is drinkable but by no means good. read more

So on the one hand I will say this place has good bagels and a great variety of selection. On the other hand its quite expensive, and the last time we went there they gave my partner the wrong thing - she ordered and paid for a bagel with lox and cream cheese (which she was charged for) but got one with just cream cheese. When she went back in with the bagel they accused her of lying and insisted they did it right (despite her literally having the bagel and the receipt in hand). I wrote to them to tell them this has always been our go-to and we were incredibly offended that the response was to actually accuse my partner of LYING and received no response from management. I know customer service is hard, I've worked it and still do, but I could not believe how rude and inconsiderate they were in dealing with us and then failing to acknowledge our bad experience. I just picked up a bagel and left. I didn't deal much with the service. I usually keep my own cream cheese at work to put on bagels so I don't get 2 inches of cream cheese on it at the bagel shops. They still had a good number of bagels when I went to the shop around 12:30pm. The workers there didn't know English well, and you could tell it was not their native language. The bagel itself I thought was pretty good. It was really crusty which I like compared to soft. It was appropriately sized and not as big as your face like other shops. Too much bagel is too much. Overall, I really liked the bagel I got but it was a very simple order where they just put the bagel in a bag, gave it to me, and I walked out. Parking was pretty terrible because of all the elderly people in the neighborhood going out for lunch. read more

Absolutely disgusted after my trip for Angela this morning. We have been frequenting bagel bazaar for years-- even had them cater many parties. Today I ordered their #2 special which was a veggie omelet wrap and coffee for $4.99. The picture clearly showed cheese in the wrap so when i ordered, I specified the kind of cheese I wanted. When I got to the counter to pay, I realized I was charged $6.25 for the wrap and an extra $1.35 for the coffee! Everyone. I spoke to was rude and nasty to me in front of my son! They ignored me when I asked For my food and served 5 people before they even acknowledged me. I spoke to a manager who blames me for not communicating correctly and told me that even though the picture shows cheese- they. Charge extra for that! So $1.25 for a sLice of cheese and that change causes them to charge me an extra $1.35 for coffee! WHAT??? Never again!!! read more

The bagels and food are ok, nothing exceptional (at the Applegarth store). What concerns me the most is this: the workers put on only one plastic glove to handle the food with, HOWEVER they do handle the food with the bare (ungloved) hand. They don't like it when you a ask them to wear 2 gloves (using 1 glove saves the owner a lot of money) or not to touch the food with their bare hand. It happened again today. I ordered egg salad on a bagel with a slice of onion. The worker forgot to put the onion on...when I reminded her, she reached in & grabbed the onion with her bare hand. I told her "not with your bare hand", so she ended up making the whole thing all over again. You have to watch how they handle the food bc this is a very consistent habit of theirs. When they made fourth mistake in a year, I complained why they made so many mistakes. When they gave me money, he didn't say any apologies. No, he showed really bad attitude. Last week we bought four bagels from them. The clerk picks them out for you, so you don't know what you've got until you open the bag, which we did when we got home. All four bagels were stale, but the two pumpernickel bagels were beyond stale. They were rock hard and nothing would soften them enough to eat. I sent a pretty nice email to the Bagel Bazaar about it and received back nothing, no apology, no acknowledgement. We live within 1/2 mile, but won't be going back. read more
