bagels are fine nothing special. service sucks tho. the young lady at the counter with dirty blonde hair and lashes that are way too long for her eye shape was very rude. she told me that they close at two when it was only 1:30, and gave me this information as she was handing me our order. All we had done was sit and wait for our overpriced bagels. there were ipad kids who were sitting alone in the corner watching their videos at full volume and there was also a family as well. it seemed we were a bother for what we believe is because we had a kid with autism with us. she was laughing and making happy stimming noises but behaving better than the other children in the shop. Placed an order and when I questioned why I was being charged al-a-cart the cashier Ella responded with a breakdown of each item. When I corrected her she caught an attitude and told the manager to "deal with me!" 1st of all young lady you obviously were raised without respect to your elders, or anyone for that matter looking at the previous reviews. You def will not make it in a service industry with an attitude like that. My best friend and I walk in fir breakfast and apparently they don't like people looking around. She goes alot and decided to show me this place so I've never been. Well they took her order and ignored me. For a good 10 minutes. We were the only two people ordering. The one with the badly done fake lashes and injected lips was giving EVERYONE, customer and employee, major attitude. I'm going going to assume Maybe shes the owner to treat everyone as if she is better than them. She was giving me dirty looks, why idk. Maybe cause I looked put together and she was forced to wear a T shirt and leggings? Idk, but she could have not given everyone c**ty vibes. Woulda been nice. This being said she was not happy about my existence in the bagel shop. Now I knew my bagel would be a little pricey for what it got, so I knew what I was walking into. I ordered a plain bagel, scooped, toasted, lox and avocado.....the picture is what I got. The younger girl did everything right. She was very polite. Lashy lips started barking orders at her cause she thought the nice young girl wasn't dpong it correctly. Firsty mind your business, secondly just cause ypu need to wait three minutes to put on 4 SLIVERS of avocado doesn't mean you need to get snappy with someone who is doing their job correctly(I make bagels for people as well lady). The poor girl had to get reassurance from me that my bagel was to be toasted. Not lashy Lips is up to place avocado on my bagel. After being charged $3+ for avocado you'd thing it would be almost like avocado toast....nope. its was literally 4 SLIVERS. They must have used A MOST 1/8 of an avocado.. and entire avocado is cheaper in the supermarket!! I was expecting to pay around d $6-7 for my bagel. It was $9 and change. Lashy lips took no care and deliberately skimmed the avocado. I was going to say something there but I didn't want confrontation with lashy lips, so I figure reviews on her would get a point point across to her terrible attitude and service. I thought it was weird there was only one other person in there....but now I know why And if she is the owner.....stop using Costco to stock your business. It makes you look like you have no clue what your doing. And if you want to use costo stuff....at least change the packaging. Theeat in the deli case says Kirkland.The paper plates are literally the same ones I have at home. If I wanted to go out and be served on my home paper plates....I'd stay home and makey own food. Ypu are located in holbrook and so is Costco. Most of your clientele is from holbrook and would be shopping at Costco as well. If they want Costco stuff they can stay home. We decided to give this new place a try, and were actually a bit excited to have a new local bagel place to try. Unfortunately, it was just okay, and with the deli right next door and a lots of good bagel places in the area, we haven't been back... and likely won't be. It's new so the decor is stylish and trendy. The place is also very clean, again it's only been open a few months. Unfortunately, the interior design is nicer than the people who work there. They just weren't all that friendly or pleasant and we were literally the only customers there, so it's not like they were busy. And the food was just okay. I didn't like the texture of the bagels at all... they reminded me of bagels you get when you're not in New York... they were more like a roll. We went with several family members and they all seemed to feel the same about their food... it was just middle-of-the-road; Nothing to sing praises about or write home about, nothing to shout from the roof in complaint about either. Average. So very average. The deli next door makes an awesome egg sandwich. The bagel place by CVS is always packed but never fails to deliver the perfect NY bagel. The diner around the corner has every breakfast choice under the sun. There's at least three other bagel stores I can think of off the top of my head that I can get to in about 5 minutes. Why would I keep choosing this very average, sub-par service Bagel Cafe? I wouldn't. read more

Former Customer (10+ years)...... PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY HERE !!! The NASTY, disgusting counter helper woman who waited on us, not only screwed up our order, but then took it out on my innocent young daughter. They didn't make our trip to their 'cafe' a pleasant experience at all. The old owners are gone now, and new horrible, terrible, people work here, and have a very bad attitude, gave us very bad service, and upset my family with their bad customer service! Definitely not worth waiting in line. This place used to be great, but no longer. My family and I go elsewhere for better service, and to be treated like a customer should, especially here in New York. We deserve the BEST, and this place is the WORST! We will NEVER go there again. Terrible experience! The woman behind the counter couldn't even fake being pleasant, the prices are inflated and the food is mediocre. It was 20 dollars for two egg sandwiches and one piece of crumb cake. That's just not normal pricing in comparison to other bagel places in the area. I always give the benefit of doubt but run into the same problems over and over so I will be going to another place. First I attempted to use zingle to text my order and no response. When I go in and ask if my ziggle order was received I'm told it's broken and just today was told they don't use it anymore but said to call. I attempted to call many times no answer. When I told them no one answers the response is when busy they don't answer the phone. Next issue is when paying they hide the register amounts. I asked for a drink upgrade which is an up charge to the larger size. I'm ok with that except they charge full price for the lemonade. When I call them out on it they get annoyed. Charge me the upgrade fee not the full amount. The food and bagels are decent but there are more friendly places around. Time to move to either bagel brothers or bagel lovers. read more

Ok because of convenience, I've gone back to Bagel Cafe a few times, and I have to say it's been a positive experience! Bagels have been good and available & staff have been very pleasant. Why is your chalkboard menu like an arithmetic test...just come out and say that you are charging ~$6.89 for a BEC which is INSANE! 2 stars because the place has a nice seating area and the bagel blast Jr is an OK deal but otherwise I think today was my last visit. I want to love this place, but the employees are so bad it's impossible. I'm writing this as I sit waiting for an egg sandwich for 20 minutes. They cannot even make a bagel right. They already brought my son's bagel out and he's almost done. The place is nice inside and if they just knew what they doing, I would be a regular. My parents live in the area and we tried their bagels when we were visiting one morning. My wife loved that they weren't super crunchy and easier for our toddler to chew. I really like their bagels that is why I gave them one star. They are constantly screwing up my order. I go in everyday and order the same thing. A bagel, medium coffee and cream cheese. It is never right. Never toasted like I ask, never the bagel I ask for. Each person who rings up my order comes up with a different price. Everyday depending who you get will ring it up completely different. Today was the last straw. A bagel with cream cheese and a coffee $9! The first - and likely only time - I went here, it was rather disappointing. I came in around noon on a weekend with family. I was craving chicken salad so that's what I ordered, "We have to cook it, sorry" "okay...tuna salad?" The employee takes a couple of minutes asking in the kitchen and comes back, "Sorry, we have cook that, too." Okay, so you're only open until 3PM...it's lunchtime on a Saturday and you don't have any chicken or tuna salad prepared?? Isn't that what early morning prep is for?? I ended up getting cold cuts on a bagel. Nothing special. Large, clean seating area is really all they have going. Staff wasn't even particularly friendly, kinda snobbish. Not nearly as apologetic as I would've been (having worked in food service for a decade) when I didn't have either item a customer was looking for. Honestly, this place is just bad,how do you suck so bad at bagels on Long Island,the land of bagels. The service and staff was fine, professional and helpful. The (I'm assuming) management however, WHOA! Didn't catch his name but he was a portly, old man who was so grouchy and it was a major turn off. That was all fine UNTIL he started belittling his staff right in front of the customers. Moved here from the city and needed to find a new bagel place. Let me say.... This is NOT it. The woman running the counter was absolutely atrocious. Her attitude was absolutely disgusting and what angered me more is she was so rude in front of my daughter. Great example of how NOT to act in public when you work in customer service. She Gave my husband an attitude when he tried to order a bagel because she was the only one there. How hard is it to toast a bagel and slap on some cream cheese?? When my husband ordered the "healthy man" sandwich and asked for it on a bagel the woman gave him a hard time as if she didn't know how to put all of the ingredients on a bagel rather than a wrap and practically made fun of him for requesting it. There was one other person waiting and she acted as if the line was to the door. There's a sign saying fresh bagels and they tasted like they came out of the freezer. Then when my husband went to pay with cash, he was chastised for not having another form of payment and told him he'd be receiving mostly singles. 10 minutes of waiting to order when only 3 people are in line. 10 minutes to wait for my one plain simple order. Within my 20 minutes of being here I watched the lady wear the same pair of gloves to handle bacon, go use the register, write down other peoples orders, and make their orders. I live local and know that the bagel store in the commons has changed multiple times, but by far this is the worse place yet! Some of the girls were professional, while I guess the manager or owner (some big guy) was extremely rude. Just the fact that anybody would talk to there staff in the manor he did is shameful and embarrassing. I would NEVER step foot in this place again. Great place and the bagels are fresh. It does need a bit of a learning curve though. Ordered pancakes. They were okay taste wise but they were a bit heavy and dry (pancakes shouldn't crumble). Most likely from the pancakes being cooked immediately after the batter was mixed. Mix the batter beforehand and let that rest prior to cooking so the baking powder in the mix react with the liquid ingredients and releases air bubbles into the batter (best if you put a sheet of plastic wrap directly on top of the batter to trap the air in the batter). This will give you lighter, fluffier pancakes. Finally, when working with flour based batters, NEVER free-pour your liquid ingredients. Flour batters are fussy when it comes to the ratio of wet-to-dry ingredients. Also, NEVER let your customers see the packaging of the pancake batter!!! Lastly, NEVER let customers see frustrations between team members, especially when you have an open kitchen. Not sure other customers picked up on that, but I did and even though it doesn't bother me that much, other people may get turned off by it. ====================================== Update: I waited a couple of months before I returned here to see if it was the same as before or if they turned things around. WOW!!!! Like night and day!!!!!! The staff is VERY friendly now and if there's issues between them, they never let it show. The food is MUCH, MUCH better, especially the pancakes. The french toast, honestly, is some of the best (and I've been cooking for almost 40 years...at one time, professionally). This place has quickly become by go-to breakfast place and is a neighborhood gem!!!! In fact, I'm there so much, they know me by name and greet me almost immediately. Although the food is decent, I watched staff handle money, adjust themselves and return to the kitchen and handle food all while wearing the same pair of gloves.
