There is only one cure to an Isla Vistan hangover, and it is a Super Emma on Herb Cheese w/ a big ol' Diet Coke. Having graduated from UCSB and moved on to other, inferior bagel shops, I now spend my Sunday mornings daydreaming about that pesto cream cheese goodness... And yeah, it's mostly (city?) college kids who work there, so sometimes it takes forever. Between 9 and 1ish on the weekends there's guaranteed to be a sloppy-looking line out the door, so if you don't feel like waiting, don't get a Melt (which takes a lot longer). Also seating outdoors may be limited, but there's a park w/ benches directly adjacent - way better! & not sure if it's still the case, but when they were open at night was like the best quarter of my life. Normally, I love bagel Café. I've been here at least 40 times, and I always order the same thing, the five-0. Today I ordered online for pick up because I was in a rush and I arrive to find that my order had been made completely incorrectly. It is supposed to be an open faced sandwich with hatch chilies egg, cheese and bacon on each side. Instead I received a close face sandwich with one egg, no cheese, and the hatch chilies were mixed in with the egg rather than used as a spread. When I tried to tell the staff that my sandwich was made incorrectly, the cashier argued with me, telling me it was supposed to be made that way. I hope in the future that bagel café will train their staff to make items correctly. I did not receive the sandwich that I paid almost $10 for and that's very frustrating. read more

Throughout my best regrettable decisions, massive hangovers and memories I'll never remember, Bagel Cafe was the tasty constant and best thing after those alcohol fueled "I should have been studying," nights that also double as pregame snack. Is it busy? Yes, but the staff were the best and consistent with their service. In addition through my GREAT years in IV they were the spot and now that I'm gone, they still continue to be the go to spot. Consistent is key, and Bagel Cafe embodies that. 6/5. read more

OMG Delicious delicious delicious. -Ordered the chicken salad on a herb and cheese bagel. It was amazing! Comes with chicken, onions, cranberries, lettuce, Chinese peanuts, and mustard/mayo. YUM! My girlfriend and I have cravings for this place all the time- sadly, we live 3 hours away. Their bagle coccotions are the best I've ever had. I go with the "Fire in the hole every time"- turkey, bacon, avocado, and habanero salsa. I'm salavating thinking about right now. I've eaten here countless times in the middle of the night when I'm not in the mood for a good portion of Freebirds. I've tried almost everything on the menu, but I think the Super Emma, and Taxi Cab are my absolute favorites. The food is priced fairly well, and is pretty consistent. Though the wait is lengthy (15-20 minutes), the food is worth it. They also have a spot on tablet at the counter, which is another one of those frequent customer rewards programs, which I believe gets you a free bagel after however many bagels. I don't remember. Ohh, and you might want them to go easy on the cream cheese; some of the workers like to slather it on until your bagel is drenched in rich dairy product. gross. Absolutely delicious! I stopped by with a buy-one-get-one-free coupon from the Entertainment book and it's now where I stop when I want a special breakfast. Food was bomb. I got the super deluxe bagel and it was worth the price. The workers were friendly and I got my food in a timely manner. Sitting outside was a very pleasant experience due to the peaceful atmosphere of the neighborhood. Bagel cafe used to be my go-to in IV. Although despite desperate times, I can't continue to go here. The employees, although some polite, are obviously inadequately trained through no fault of their own. Recently, I've seen them barefoot, not have their hair up, you name it. One was even crawling under the counter once and called me the B-word when they overheard me point it out to my friend. It's clear this place has gotten too cocky and thinks they can get away with this kind of stuff. Hopefully they step their game up again and return to their former glory. read more

Yet another Isla Vista establishment that could careless about customer service. I have been stuck going to Bagel Cafe for years because quite frankly there is no other option in IV. The bagels are good if they get your order right but most times I am left with a long wait and a decent bagel. I understand some of the melts take longer but numerous times they have forgot my order when there was hardly a line. The prices are overpriced and the service is honestly the worst in Isla Vista. Your best bet for bagels in Santa Barbara- and not as expensive as the UCSB students seem to complain. As a former New Yorker, 6 to 8 dollars for a Bagel sandwich is not unreasonable at all. I had the Hampton, a lox sandwich with lemon pepper. I selected it because previous reviews mentioned lemon pepper on lox, but IMO they added way too much. But the fundamentals are there: solid, real (no torus-shaped buns here) bagels, tasty cream cheese, lots of varieties in favors, toppings, and sandwiches. Definitely a place I'll be taking my New Yorker parents to, for further evaluation of course. read more

Bagel Cafe has a wonderful assortment of bagels to choose from and a big variety of bagel sandwiches. I am a big fan of their lox bagels, or anything with their lemon-pepper, quite delicious. I get filled from a single bagel sandwich, and I think I am constantly craving Bagel Cafe. I work at a nearby bakery that gets bagels delivered from here every morning. We do not make bagel sandwiches, but if anyone is looking for one I always recommend them to come here. Recently I talked to a customer from New York that has been looking for a good, authentic bagel in the area. She complimented the bagels we served at the bakery, saying we were the first that had a bagel that made her feel like she was at home. Bagels were delicious! With a big variety of fresh bagels to choose from ranging from salty to sweet, its always a tough decision. For me nothin is better than having a local bagel store to run down to before starting my long day of school and work. I just got the Eggle Plus and was very satisfied. I'm from Connecticut, specifically the part next to New York. as you probably know, the bagels are really good there and what I miss most about the east. when I arrived at ucsb for my freshman year, I tried the bagels at dlg and they were not good.
