If you happen to be out in Margate or in the area, this restaurant is definitely a winner. I haven't had time to read the reviews, but I saw that they scored low and I was hesitant to go to their restaurant. Don't expect anything fancy like you do in East Fort Lauderdale. But you can expect to have a much lower bill with the same quality of food. I wasn't very hungry this morning so I ordered an everything bagel with lox cream cheese. I guess they had a busy morning because both types of lox were sold out. And I can see why because their lox spread was unbelievable. There was so much cream cheese spread I could take probably taken half of it off and brought it home. The coffee wasn't bad either considering it was the brewed pot variety. And the best part was, I didn't have to pay for refills. My total bill was a whopping $6.43. You can't even get a cup of coffee at Starbucks for that. I could tell there were a lot of locals there. This is not a place where you get served in 5 minutes. So impatient people need to frequent the McDonalds down the street. My dog's vet is in Margate so I'm sure I'll visit again. I decided to try this place for brunch today, and was disappointed in the meal that I received. The waitress did a pretty decent job, although she filled my coffee cup twice and did not refill it again (even though she came by me and the cup was empty). I ordered eggs basted well with bacon crisp and home fries well. I also ordered an onion bagel not toasted with cream cheese. The waitress was the only server in the restaurant with the young lady at the register helping to clean up. As for my order, the only thing that was right was the basted eggs. The bacon was greasy and looked like it had been deep fried. The potatoes were anything but done well. The waitress asked me if they didn't have an onion bagel, would I accept another kind of bagel ( and I agreed to have an everything bagel). Their version of an everything bagel was not what I normally get, and they put the cream cheese on the bagel. The coffee tasted of heavy grounds. Definitely a quintessential diner vibe with all of the classic food options. I'm going to assume it's an off day and be fair. The staff was lovely, but unfortunately it's a long wait. We waited about 30 minutes for food, and the kitchen told our waitress at the very end that they were out of the lox for my meal. We were in a time crunch so I just let my husband's order come through. Totally understand that things happen and I'm sure the omelet would've been great. My husband did enjoy his garlic bagel and bacon/egg/cheese omelet. The home fries are more of a hard mash that could've used some seasoning. It took 40 minutes for food to arrive. Not once were we given beverage refills (before or after our food arrived). No one checked on us after the food arrived. We went early on a Sunday afternoon 2/02/25. Only 2 other tables had customers that appeared to have already been served. I asked our server if the turkey was real turkey or deli meat and she said it was "real." She proceeded to bring out our food without cutlery and had to go back and get it. My sandwich was made of deli meat. After the server disappeared and I already ate half. (I just came from the gym and was super hungry) she did say I could return it. When we went to pay at the register, with cash, the cashier couldn't figure out how to take our money. Another woman helped her and couldn't open the drawer either. Let's talk about lack of customer service or integrity. Placed an online order, waited for my pick up time to walk in and was advised by "Camela" that the order wasn't placed and it needed to be called in. I corrected her and advised that I was given a conf # AND my card was charged meaning their online system had no problem processing the order. She went to speak with "Lucia" who later found my receipt (for the order "that wasn't placed") sitting on the counter and told me I would have to wait because other orders are ahead; meanwhile it's passed my pick up time. "Lucia" stated if I don't have the patience to wait; while I wasted over 30 min waiting and arguing with them. Had she taken a more professional approach, I would have had no problem waiting but since they don't want to admit their fault and screwup, she chose to deflect. I asked for a refund and will take my business elsewhere and advise you do too, unless you want to make America great by supporting the incompetence. read more

I arrived in Margate, Florida, on Friday after a long time away from California. During my last visit, I noticed Bagel Time & Bakery Cafe. I am a lover of a well-made East Coast-style corned beef sandwich. So, while picking up some bait this morning, I decided to check and see if Bagel Time & Bakery Cafe sold corned beef sandwiches, which they did. So I requested a corned beef sandwich with mustard, onions, and pickles only, with the coleslaw. After repeating my order ten times, I thought there would be no problem with my order. Once I received my order, I neglected to follow my first mind and check the order to ensure accuracy. Because the counter person told me I would thoroughly enjoy how it was prepared. But once I reached my next destination, I opened the container to enjoy what I thought was the sandwich I ordered. The order was missing the onions and coleslaw, and the pickle looked hideous. I immediately called Bagel Time & Bakery Cafe to inform them that my order was not as requested. The owner first lied and said she was not at the counter when I ordered the sandwich, stating that she was in the office when I placed the order. Then, she told me there were cameras and that she would check them. I would have let it go, but then she got loud over the phone and told me I was wrong. The order was correct. I knew she had not checked the cameras, so I returned the order for a refund. Once I arrived back at the restaurant, she, the owner, became immediately defensive and would not allow the two waitresses to speak. She yelled at me, telling me she would not refund my cash. After asking the waitpeople to verify what I had ordered. She silenced them, after which I said I would call law enforcement. At that point, she agreed to refund my money. I had told them that if the sandwich were not to my liking, I would not return. Then, as I was walking out of the door, the owner decided that she would call the Margate police to attempt to get me arrested. Margate police called my phone, stated it was not a police matter, but relayed a threat from Bagel Time & Bakery Cafe to not return to their restaurant. This is the second sandwich shop in South Florida that I have had such a horrible response after they screwed up an order. I returned the receipt with the bag the food came in, so there is no receipt to add to my review. I promise I would not have written this review if the appropriate customer service tactics had worked. So I came in and waited patiently as two party's cashed out in front of me only to be told " hold on I have a customer!" Like really??? Am I not a customer??? it would take me an hour to write everything that is wrong at this restaurant, so I'm gonna keep it short. Go somewhere else. When you go out to a bagel restaurant on Sunday morning and you walk in and there's only about three tables of customers in there and it's not jampacked and you have to wait on a line to be seated, it is an indication of how the restaurant is run. And his dessert choice was pudding or jello. He ordered the pudding. After she left, I said what kind of pudding are you getting? He said it would be a surprise. Shouldn't she have told him? His soup came and it was a cup of minestrone. He said it was okay. Tasted lIke out of a can. His half sandwich came with a pickle spear, a small container of coleslaw and a dollop of rice pudding right on tHe same plate. The meager meat sandwich was okay. The pickle eh and the rice pudding awful. The best was the coleslaw. I ordered the junior lox plate. An open faced bagel with cream cheese and lox on one side of the bagel plus a slice of onion and coleslaw. The cream cheese was heavily and messily slathered on a partially toasted bagel. I scraped off most of the cream cheese. The bagel was awful -- doughy but not flavorful. The salty lox was fine. The best thing on the plate? The coleslaw. Went after seeing the grand opening video posted online. Walked in to an overwhelmed waitress who asked for patience ( kinda knew she was overwhelmed as she told the table she was working on that ) took her a bit to get to us but she was nice. Everytime the waitress stops by your table, she a .38 or .20 service charge. Coffee refills is $4.98 plus a service fee. I have eaten here for years! I have brought lots of people here who have nothing but good things to say. If I ever had a meal it wasn't perfect it would be one out of God knows how many times! Lol sometimes I like french fries and sometimes I get a few there a little over done and it's about as critical as I can get. I honestly can't remember or even think about how many times I've come here and that I always left with what I was hoping an expected to get which was a good meal at a good price. I've read whatever negative comments are here and I'm shaking my head because most of those people don't recognize good food for a good price and are rating it like they expect to be pampered in a five star restaurant lol. It's a diner already lol. The food is pretty rocksolid good quality but if your palate is that finicky you might consider staying at home and cooking yourself what you're happy with lol It's a breakfast place, a diner, a local family run business that gives you good food value for a good price and service is usually excellent. Seriously with the number of people would come in there the wait staff is fantastic and they remember who you are and treat you like family. The nicest thing I can say about this place is, "it wasn't terrible." Deli plates are offered but that is a stretch... We ordered our lunch selections and after an extended wait our waitress came back to the table searching for our order ticket after she noticed the kitchen was not working on our meals. The place only had four other people so it wasn't busy enough to misplace our meal ticket. After re-ordering our lunch, we got our beverages and waited as the kitchen prepared our meals. My soup was a choice of minestrone or minestrone...I went with the minestrone which was just okay. My half a sandwich of corned beef was dry as was the rye bread it came on. My wife's lightly toasted bagel came out dark brown and with onions which she specified she did not want. This review is for takeout only. The food wasn't anything to write home about, just mostly depressing. I tried this place twice and that was enough. Thr rye bread was good but where was the bacon on my BLT? I mean, seriously there were only two slices on my sandwich. I always get double tomato and no lettuce so basically I ate a tomato sandwich. Not bad, but I wanted to have crispy bacon and I felt there should have been more than two slices. I certainly didn't order a tomato sandwich & ask them go easy on the bacon! Pickle was ok and the potato salad was blah. Sesame bagel with cream cheese was okay but nothing that will have me running back. I have had much better bagels, I am from New York, enough said. Cream cheese was low on scallions & very disappointing. I can't, just can't give more than two stars and that's even stretching it. My friends tuna was sour and he tossed it and then he went to McDonalds. Much, much better places around for breakfast and lunch. For a simple bagel and cream cheese in a pinch go to Dunkin Donuts, believe it or not their bagels are better than a lot of "bagel" places. Bagel Time has been around for years which speaks volumes. Can I tell you that if you go before 11am you can get two eggs, choice of meat, potatoes AND a bagel for $2.99. Um, hello, what are you waiting for? The place wasn't really the cleanest, but honestly, I don't expect any diner to be clean. That's what gives them their charm. Dirty tables and floors, not so nice staff and delicious (read greasy) food. The staff here though were phenomenal. So friendly. The service was amazing. The food came out fast and fresh. I had absolutely nothing to complain about. Their bagels are amazing. Their rye bread is made fresh in their kitchen and probably is the best I've ever tasted. I wish I got their earlier enough to get a special, but I know I'll be back soon enough to try. As I looked around everything looked delicious. Burgers on bagels, large pancakes, my tasty omelet and even lox! I'm drooling just thinking about this place. It's a great spot for hearty breakfast and lunch food on a budget. Holy crap. In 9 years of yelping, I don't think I've ever been further from a restaurant's average rating; but B.T.R.'s 4 stars makes me feel like I live in an alternate universe. Pluses: the place is clean despite its no-frills decor, the latter I've become accustomed to in the area. The waitress was mostly helpful and sweet (except neglecting my refill of coffee). And the rye bread, touted by a yelp friend, was good and thick-cut and tasty though under-toasted. All that aside -- the food was sub-par. Ordering the coffee, scrambled eggs and home fries with a $1.80 or so mark-up for two slices of bacon: 1. The alleged two scrambled eggs were more like 1 1/4 eggs. Such a small portion. And the whites/yolks barely integrated. And cooked in some mystery diner oil that made the eggs taste funky. 2. The home fries: the potato chunks under-cooked yet drowning in a mystery oil/onion/misc ingredients dressings. Please note I love funky diner home fries; these didn't come close to being worthy. 3. Coffee: standard on the low side of average-expected Rubusto diner coffee. The cups are rather small, so would have appreciated a refill I was promised. Never came. 4. Bacon: For an add-on charge, these were the two thinnest, driest and toughest slices of bacon I've ever eaten. My knife couldn't cut through them, if that gives a clue. 5. Rye bread 'toast': as mentioned, probably the best part of my meal. Thickly and somewhat chaotically sliced chunks of bread too-lightly toasted. 6. With tip, breakfast came to $10. I can cite more than a couple of places in the area with better breakfast offerings for almost half the price. Maybe it was an off-day; I'm not willing to pay again to find out if I was mistaken. This is a little hole in the wall diner in Margate. The inside is a little dingy and the waitresses seem a little harried. I had the scrambled eggs with potatoes, onion bagel with veggie cream cheese. The eggs and potatoes were pretty bland, the bagel was good but the veggies in the veggie cream cheese were not chopped up enough. The coffee was good. My husband had a sausage and cheese omelet, home fries, toast. The omelet has sausage links cut up in it and the home fries were so bland. We have been coming here for years. The food was always good and inexpensive. However. The business has been sold and we were disappointed. We always order chicken salad on rye. The chicken salad was still good but the rye bread was awful. It was hard on the edges and mine fell apart. It was also flavorless. And the sandwich was $3.00 more. I'm just not feeling it here. The bagels are more like little pucks of generic white bread than bagels. The cream cheese tastes stale. Service was harried and a little rude; they want to rush take out customers out the door as soon as possible and yet it still took us a while to get our food. On top of this, the coffee was just not good and tasted burnt. The interior of this restaurant also seems in need of a renovation, since it looked like not much had been upgraded in years.
