The bagels are the best in the greater Mew York area with a nice variety of hot and cold deli sandwiches. Food and coffee always good. Sometimes lines are out the door, always a good sign. Have been coming to Bagelman for years and everything is usually great. Went last weekend and it makes me wonder if this place is under new management. Didn't recognize any of the employees, which would be fine if they knew what they were doing. Order our egg and cheeses on a bagel, sit down and wait for it to come out. First, the place is absolutely filthy. No one cleans the tables after guests leave, literally every single tables has crumbs and food on them when you sit down. Not to mention the garbage littered throughout the place on the floor....LAZY.... 20 minutes later our food arrives, cold because the girls working there now are clueless as I'm sure our food had just been sitting there. To top it off, she messed up my order but i wasnt about to wait for another one. I read some of these posts and they couldn't be further from the truth. The food is great! Sorry they asked you to leave when they closed and you didn't ask for more oil and vinegar on your sandwich but it's not the stores fault. Called in for a pick up order Saturday morning and the guy who picked up was extremely rude. This Bagelman definitely needs better staff. The guy on the phone asked for my credit card even though I told him I was 5 minutes away. I offered to give my credit card and he said "you know what, you called last week, and nothing has changed"....I never called last week, I never go to the Brookfield store. I never will again. I simply hung up and placed my order at the mill plain rd store, they were nice as usual, never asked for my credit card (not that I care), but customer service goes a long way! read more

Best bagels in the area by far! I have moved away from the area & still make excuses to travel to that side of Brookfield to stop at Bagelman & get my fix. Recently shipped some out to former B-Town residents on the West Coast and they devoured them in hours. Even though they are packed on weekend mornings, they still keep the line moving so you don't have to wait very long for their delicious fresh bagels. Love Bagelman! read more

Good Bagels! Best in the Danbury area

First off let me be clear that this review pertains to the Brookfield location ONLY. The owner of this store recently made a point to come out to speak with us after we had placed our order. Apparently he was waiting to speak with us regarding the "custom" order that we usually place: scooped-out bagels, extra egg, scrambled egg, with salt/pepper/ketchup/hot sauce. ALL of which are among the MANY options provided to customers who order online and then pick up - you simply check off the boxes as you go. As per this tag line on their Facebook page: "Come in and create your custom breakfast or lunch at Bagelman." Well, apparently there are consequences to actually exercising the options they offer. Imagine actually using the ordering options PROVIDED BY THE BUSINESS! The owner had taken a photo of a printout of one of our orders and posted it on his FB page (thanks at least for obscuring the name on the order before posting it, confirmation that you do at least have a working brain), citing it as a reason why they "sometimes get backed up LOL". OK, a lame if harmless attempt at humor . . but then it just got weird. The owner approached us as if we were friends (we do not know the man) and advised us within earshot of everyone in the vicinity that our orders were gumming up their works. Wearing a weird goofy smile and totally inappropriate . . . when we went there a short time later (i.e., the LAST time we will patronize his store), one of us placed the order and then at the end one of us had the gall to add salt and pepper . . . to which the obviously annoyed counterperson said, "you can do that yourselves". When I commented that they probably had our photo on a wall in the back, this fine customer service specimen stated flatly, "we do". OK, that's it, we don't need anyone spitting in our food. . . . the only remaining problem with boycotting the business is . . . they actually make a decent breakfast sandwich. Problem solved: when I commented to the owner of the Mill Plain Road what a weirdo the Brookfield owner was, I learned that although the owners of the stores are related, he has no ownership interest in the Mill Plain Road store and is never there. Bottom line, the Brookfield store has a very weird vibe which apparently flows directly from the owner. Right down to the bunch of the owner's cronies who hang out there on weekday mornings leering at the customers. My only remaining complaint is that I had to give this review at least one star in order to post it. Zero stars is not an option. read more

I always enjoy fresh bagels and great coffee in this location. Sometimes I came two days in row , I have never experienced bad customer service until yesterday. I came there with my son and my friend. I placed the order hard roll with bacon and cheese , extra egg. I ordered like like that , because my 3 years old like to take my egg. So my friend order something too. I didn't take a receipt . Our order came and I checked if I have an extra egg, which it didn't , so I tell lady , I am sorry , but egg is missing. So she went back and came back to us saying cook did put two eggs.... where?! Anyway , time goes by , I already give my ONLY egg to my son . Another lady come out ( Latin origin) and telling me there was two eggs in very unpleasant manner. She took my fork lift up my hard roll and told me there was two eggs ,but I moved them . WTF?! First of all no one should be touching my food !!!! So she was raising her voice on me and people around was staring. I was in shock. Seriously. So what exactly happened they give my egg to my friend, not me . And they told me to take an egg from her . I mean she is my fried I don't mind. But so if I am having breakfast with someone I just meet ? Or it is some kind of business meeting? They did a mistake, they gave me an attitude about . I will never come back in this location again. I'm insulted... Surprised.... And confused. This place use to give me good vibes. Those were pleasant memories. What the frick happened? Did the cook have a stroke, or is he mentally incompetent to the point where he can't make a proper panini and bacon sandwich? But let's start with the service, shall we? The first attendant at the counter was warm, pleasant, and sweet. In walks miss thang. This girl really hated herself. Her stone faced b#%\chy attitude belied what would normally be considered an attractive face. Her words, monotone and apathetic, were as rigid as they were rude. She double charged us for some items. The food was no better than her attitude. My paninis cheese wasn't even melted, and the vegetables were harder than listening to Donald Trump speak. My friends bacon sandwich tasted as though they took bacon flavored dog treats, cooked them in dirty oil, then threw them on some sad bread. We were so disappointed when we took our first bites. I used to love Bagelman. I would go every day before work. However, one day I was in a rush to get to work so when I was handed the wrong order. I assumed they misheard me when I ordered on the phone. So I paid for my bagel and left. Later to come the next day they begin to accuse me of stealing someone else's meal. The man trying to save his own said that I had just took the meal and left. When I went to get my order the next day they insisted that I pay again for a meal that I never received. Food is okay, bagels are decent for this area, imo Barristers in Danbury is much better if you get them fresh. I don't understand how people around here support this place so much you would think they serve NYC bagels. Setting is extremely dated and has looked the same as long as I can remember. Service is absolutely terrible which is why the 1 star review. I have given them multiple chances, busy or empty, food is almost always extremely slow or just wrong. It's amazing how many times they have messed up such a simple order for me. Went to get a chicken cutlet deluxe before work had about 45 minutes before I had to head towards my job. No problem right? Waited 10, 15 , 20 minutes on a casual day and started to see people that ordered after me get served. Keep in mind I had already paid. I go up and inquire about my order after 30 minutes and they scurry around all confused. Somehow they didn't even start the order?? FYI to anyone who goes to the Brookfield Bagel Man, I went there so I could grab some breakfast but the total came to $10.02 gave her a $20 she gave me back $9 after hitting a few buttons saying "oh shoot" I watched her not be able to count the right change ($9.98) and close the draw and walk away. When I called her over I told her she short changed me she said " oh well I typed in you gave me 20.05 so I was going to give you $10"as she's giving me at 10 .. Still wrong. Moral of the story don't work with cash if you need a computer to count for you. This frustrates me To no end and the owner has to make up for your mistake or she was going to pocket the extra cash in the draw at the end of her shift cause I imagine were not the only ones this happens too. Count your own change shoppers. The bacon egg and cheese was ok. shocked...inspired...amazed! I walked in and my eyes were drawn to the most beautiful girl I've ever seen. Short brown hair, captivating brown eyes, the bagelman hat perfectly placed like a crown upon her head. The words somehow escape my lips, "What is your name?" She softly, yet intimately replied, "Kaleigh." I will never return to any other bagel shop, for this one holds my most perfect woman. She placed my order into the bag with such grace and beauty. Service extremely poor at this place...girls at the counter more interested in busily chatting away while my wife and I stood at the counter waiting to have our orders taken. We were the only customers at the counter and one of the girls glanced at us but kept chatting away then she walked right buy us! Guess we were not her register but again maybe 6 people in the place and we are the only ones at the counter, not even acknowledging us or telling her friend hey you got a customer! The sandwiches we ordered were not bad, but I had to go the counter to get mine (steak and cheese) took longer to prepare but they forgot to bring the order...she was very apologetic but from the way they took care of the counter it is just how this place operates. Then we watched them lock the door at least 5-10 minutes before closing time which was 3PM! They waived customers off as they were locking the door! Can you believe that what great customer service! Watched as a few people that were inside need to wait at the door to get out, no one caring to notice that they wanted to leave. This day here on Sunday Jan 5th 2014 was total joke. You need to speak up to get attention for service, you need to speak up to get your order brought to you, and then you need to find someone to let you out before it is truly closing time! I have never been moved to write a yelp review but my hope is that this is something that management takes to heart so that they can improve. I used to love this place but will definitely not be going back. I have worked in food service and understand how difficult it is for staff but if you cannot even recognize when you are wrong and step up then you really should not be working in customer service. I ordered two breakfast sandwiches today, expecting to wait because they take longer and Saturdays are crazy busy. 15 minutes later, after watching about ten people who were behind me leave food in hand (most with breakfast sandwiches too - I heard their orders) I watched as the person who took my order originally found it sitting next to the coffee machine up front. He had gotten distracted and completely forgot that I even existed. Instead of coming over to me to apologize, I watched him take the order to the back as if it had just been taken. I would have assumed in a case like this that you would apologize to the customer and walk to the back telling the kitchen crew that you screwed up and this person has been waiting for a long time already so please move this order to the front. None of this happened. So ten minutes later when I still did not have my order, I asked someone to please check on it and explained that I had been waiting for almost a half an hour at this point. When I explained that the whole line behind me had already been served I was told that they probably didn't have breakfast sandwiches and that the grill was really backed up. I would rank this as more of a defensive move when you think your customers are just being impatient which I guess makes sense seeing as the person who screwed up had made it look like I walked in the door 20 minutes after I had. 40 minutes after walking in the door, I left with my order. My whole extended family lives in NY (Putnam, Westchester, Dutchess Counties - originally from Brooklyn/Queens). Every time we go to visit any of them, we have to bring Bagelman Bagels. They remind us all of the great NY bagels "of old". We won't buy bagels, unless they are from Bagelman. And Mark has the best staffers working for him.
