Hi, I'm not big on leaving reviews, but I felt compelled to write something about this Bagel place. This is a review, not on the bagels or food, but on the service. I was recently in this establishment during late morning hours with no other customers. There were two employees standing behind the register talking to each other. They were having a conversation while I was standing right in front of them looking to place my order. I waited approximately six minutes and they still never acknowledge me. They just carried on with their conversation. I was pretty much disgusted by then and just walked out of the store. I have seen these employees working there for a long time so I know they're not brand new. Horrible customer service. I just want to give a heads up to other customers who might be going to this establishment. read more

after seeing all the silly commercials on streaming tv for this place i figured id try it out. went to one in Yaphank this morning, ( Sunday, 5/17) there were 3-4 people in it, i ordered 2 everything bagels with nothing on them and one plain bagel with lox spread, also order a regular coffee, a touch of milk and no sugar, this took 25 minutes to get, im an easy person tho please but that was crazy, AND the cost of just under$14? once i got my order i went back to my car as was about to travel i opened the bag for the bagel with lox and found it had an inch thick slab of cream cheese and no lox to speak of, a few little pieces, i bout it for the lox actually, as that wasn't bad enough when i tried the coffee it tasted like warm milk. i stopped at 7/11, tossed the expensive cup of coffee in the garbage and got my usual from 7/11 lastly they advertise a one free bagel which didn't get but that really didnt bother me, ALL I CAN SAY IS ID NEVER GO BACK read more

Ordered a honey turkey and cheese hero, and wow--this sandwich transported me straight back to a classic deli in Queens! The bread was perfectly fresh, turkey portion was generous, with the perfect balance of flavor and tenderness, and everything came together to make an excellent sandwich, which can be tough to find around Long Island. read more

Seeing a lot of reviews of this place are negative within the last year or two I thought maybe I should write a more current one. I will admit a lot of those negative reviews I could agree with around those times because I have been getting bagels from here for at least the last ten years and there were issues. In 2021 I have noticed a huge difference in their sandwiches and bagels. I usually get bacon on a roll with lettuce and Mayo. The bacon has been cool perfect and there's always been plenty of bacon. At one point I used to order extra because there seemed to not be much on the roll but now within this last year there's been more than enough. My wife usually gets a bacon egg and cheese on a bagel and those have been great as well. One time this year we tried a place everyone raves about closer to our house and we couldn't have been more disgusted so I'll never get a BEC from anywhere else than bagels 101. My son loves the bagels and he couldn't believe how big his strawberry bagel was when he took it out of the bag. My only 1 thing I did not like which is why I can't give it 5 stars is their salads like macaroni and potato salad. Whoever's making it now needs to find a new recipe. The macaroni salad being the worst. Evaporated milk, Mayo, salt and pepper, sugar maybe a little vinegar is all macaroni salad needs. But the most important things are the bagels and they are great! read more

i've slowly watched this place go so down hill. First of all the bagels are never fresh, never enough seasoning on the everything bagels. Always old, staff is never polite. I give them 5 stars, but I don't think that's really accurate. I'd like to give them more!!! I've been trying to find REALLY good bagels on Long Island for years. I've been able to find a number of places that were pretty good, but they all steam their bagels before baking them. Yesterday, someone told me about a place that still boils their bagels instead of steaming them. What a difference!! Bagels 101 has the perfect bagel. The difference is obvious before you even taste them: There is no flat bottom on the bagel and the "everything" is on both sides! The consistency of the bagel is exactly the way it should be and the crust has the exact bite-through that gives you exactly what you expect. For those who don't know the difference between boiled and steamed bagels, try one and you'll immediately understand. read more

Been coming here for years and I've never received the nastiest service that I did today. Only reason I put two stars is because I know the other employees aren't this rude. I called in to the store and was frantically and aggressively put on hold. Okay no problem they're busy. 4 minutes later a woman answers the phone "what do you want" I give her my order and go through the whole process and then she goes "okay i'll put that in bye" and hangs up. No time of when it would be ready, no total of the bill. My boyfriend went to pick it up and asked if he could add a bagel and he got an insane eye roll. I understand sundays are their busiest day but it's very clear some people shouldn't work in customer service.... read more

This place has gone down so much it's a shame. It used to have the best bagels and sandwiches around. It was when the owner employed a great staff however. His current staff is horrible and rude. I went in today with my daughter who is 9 she got a juice and we stood on line, 2 x we were over looked and the other people who walked in after us were taken before us. Ok so I've been coming here for about a year now. I don't know what's been going but all I've seen is a decline in service and quality. EVERYTIME I go in I'm never greeted, when the place is even empty. Just now I went to pick up my texted order (which was not even made the way I had asked WITH please and thank yous) and there was one person online. I made myself noticable to the employee there because of course he didn't say "Hi" when I walked through the door. I said "heyyy how's it going, I just texted an order". That was all. He turns around and responds with "I'm helping someone, give me a minute" ookkaaaayy, watching a bagel toast is a very very small task, I'm sure he could have handed me my already prepared order and ring me up. My order is always wrong. Bagel is cold, bacon is never cooked right , eggs never done the way I nicely ask. So I'm finally venting. After a year. Not something I do much but this experience really bothered me for the last time. I also am a manager of Starbucks coffee company, so I'm aware of what a good experience should be. Just got a snarky 'compliment' from someone who may be the owner? Funny it was sent a year after my initial review. Funny also because a week ago my wife decided to try them again, and they were worse than they were a year ago. She went on a Saturday morning, prime hours, came home and couldn't even cut through the bagels with a knife they were so stale. So, maybe we'll try them again in another year. I'm not one to write snarky reviews myself but hey, if you're gonna write me an unprofessional 'compliment' a year after my initial review, I owe it to people to update them on the 'quality' of the 'food' you serve. This place used to be good. We would come here from two towns away just for the bagels. Recently, we've noticed a definite decrease in quality of service and product. The last straw came in the form of a sorry excuse of a bacon egg and cheese sandwich which I've attached a picture of. It was overcooked, and the bacon (if you could call it that) looked like it had been taken from the scrapings of other sandwiches and thrown into a pile on top. This place has changed so much! Let's start off with the damn front door that is obviously broken and they put a chain on the top so it only opens half way. No note on the door and EVERYONE that comes in walks into the edge of the door and it hurts. The employees watch every person come in and laugh when it happens. The place can only be described now as ghetto as F! It used to be so clean and everyone was friendly. Not so much anymore. It is literally dirty. Dust everywhere!!! When I was there I witnessed Vicky (I think. I know for sure her shirt had a name with "V") very inappropriately speak to a customer on the phone that was asking about delivery. The way she spoke to the customer was so disgusting and ghetto. Not sure who the new management is but they suck. My bill came to $13 and change and the girl (not Vicky) asked if I wanted a receipt. (Paid w/cc) I said no. Today I look at my statement and there is $16.00 charged by them. WTF kind of shady shit is this?? I got 3 bagels and one egg sandwich. The sandwich was cold. Holy cream cheese! Maybe it's because I only visit Long Island twice a year now since I have moved away, but this place had some pretty cool unique cream cheese flavors. The best part was that each one was LOADED with fresh ingredients. Want scallion cream cheese? Enjoy a bunch of fresh scallion bits! Veggie cream cheese? There was bell peppers galore! Cranberry and walnut cream cheese? It's packed with huge chunks of walnut and whole cranberries. I had a cinnamon raisin bagel with the cranberry walnut and my boyfriend got a pastrami on ciabatta. I can't wait until I come back in the winter to get another one. I guess it's the New Yorker bagel addict in me...plus the awesome choices you get here! As other reviews stated, the service was lacking. The place was clean and the food was good though. I would eat here again but I would come pre-equipped with patience and requests. They don't ask "hot or cold" for sandwiches, they don't offer help fast enough (which is NOT understandable when a bunch of girls keep walking by you and talking to each other about nonsense), and seem rather grouchy. read more

A perfectly fine bagel place! Nicely decorated, seems clean, big selection. I had a sesame bagel with veggie cream cheese, which was fine taste-wise, but there was waaaay too much cream cheese. I wanted to eat and drive, but taking the cream cheese off would have necessitated a knife and fork, so had to wait. Also, the guy behind the counter was kind of standoffish. On the plus side, they have good coffee for a bagel place and a few different flavored creamer options, plus the prepackaged salads looked good and they had prepackaged hard-boiled eggs. Disappointing bagels. The sign says "old fashioned bagels - boiled and baked" but what I got was a bready roll like bagel that had a slight hint of wet dog. I went twice, the first time I got bagel sandwiches, the eggs and bacon tasted like it was cooked on a dirty grill. I figured I'd give them a second chance, and it was just as disappointing the second time. The bagels have a funky taste and they just don't taste like a bagel. Will not be returning to Bagels 101. Update: Officially DONE with this place. Have been giving them chances for over 4 years and here is how it goes. There is a 85-95% chance of them getting your order wrong, even when you text it very simply and clearly to them. And I am not exaggerating. There have been maybe 2 times in the past 4+ years I haven't had to go back to get the right food or call and get a refund or credit or have the manager or owner apologize and offer me a free sandwich or something. Today I was up early and decided to get food for the family for the day. I just had ankle surgery and can't stand for very long and driving is painful (proximity was the only reason I was willing to give them their 50th chance), so I texted my order in so I wouldn't have to wait. I waited for about six minutes before a very depressed and confused woman struggled to find my order (she kept picking up the same 4 bagels staring at them, I guess she expected my number to magically appear eventually). I noticed my order pushed off to the side, pointed it out to her and she eventually rang me up. I gave her my debit card and when I went to sign the receipt after she ran it, I noticed an extra charge for 70 cents, so I asked why that was. They don't tell you when you're paying, but have a tiny note written in pen on printer paper taped to the counter, that says 4% charge for credit card, that I never would have noticed otherwise. It would have been really nice to be told that when I handed her my debit card (which isn't credit so they should be more specific on that note too). I spent over $15, so they're charging regardless unless you pay in cash (I asked to verify - no matter what you pay, if you're not using cash, you're getting charged the 4% fee). I finally get home, starving, excited to finally sit, rest my foot and eat. I open the bag and my whole order is a mess (why am I even remotely surprised...). I can't eat butter, and the two bagels I ordered were slathered in it. The buffalo chicken, which costs nearly $10, is so small, I literally laughed and had to take pictures of it with objects to show how small it is. The fork they gave me to eat with is bigger than the $10 wrap that was supposed to be lunch for a full grown man. It would be a reasonable size for a 6 year old, and it is certainly not worth more than $3.50. It's literally smaller than a $2 Mcdonald's snack wrap. If I spend around $10 on a sandwich, I expect a certain portion, at least similar to what every other deli and restaurant offer in the area. This is clearly not the case here. The order I texted them was so straight forward, and frankly idiot proof (see pictures). If I'm wrong, please comment and let me know what was confusing about my order. More important than the consistent and irritating inconvenience of trying to get home with the food I actually ordered, the food itself is mediocre at best. The bagels are the worst in the area, everything is over priced, the staff always look and act miserable, and the place itself isn't appealing at all. Bad vibes all around. If you don't order ahead, get ready to wait for possibly half an hour or so. If you do text ahead, it is still inevitable to wait at least ten minutes, although you texted your order in so you wouldn't have to wait, even if you don't have cooked or toasted food (several other bagel places have this same ordering system, and Bagels 101 is the only place that seems to not be able to handle it and use it to their advantage). So after all the waiting, you finally get home. You open up the bag, all the wrappers and you realize everything isn't what you asked for. In fact, you will get violently sick if you eat what they gave you because you have food allergies and they spread them on your food because they're careless. I am receiving a refund today, as I am in too much pain to drive back, which at this point is the least they can do, yet not nearly enough to compensate for years of BS and wasting money. That was officially my family's last visit to Bagels 101. Thanks for the 4+ years of hunger and frustration. Ps - the tiny wrap is rock hard to the touch, tastes like it sat out all night and has no actual chicken, just breading and way too much blue cheese, but it's mostly just a stale, old wrap. Came in here for the first time and wasn't greeted at all. The woman asked what I was ordering and I first mentioned a small coffee. She immediately spoke down to me and said the coffee is self-served behind me. After the attitude, I decided not to order coffee there. Umm.. wow! This place is awesome! Every flavor bagel imaginable, strawberry bagels! What! So cool. Every flavor cream cheese, strawberry, walnut raisin.. cinnamon, vegetable, bacon, just wow! And OMG, the amount of cream cheese they put on the bagel, my friend and I scrapped off a bunch just to slather it on another bagel. Yummy! And the prices, top notch! $2.45 for a specialty bagel and specialty cream cheese. Bagels are great but the girls that work here are rude and treat their customers like crap. During my 10 minute wait for an egg sandwich (while there were 3 people in the ENTIRE place), one of them walked around with a plastic bag around her neck, pretending to choke herself with it and another one scolded customers for the way they worded their sandwich order. This is my favorite bagel place around! Love it!! I'm flabbergasted by the bad reviews. We recently purchased our first home in Middle Island. I have a bagel place on my corner (Bagel Cafe). I walked out after waiting FOREVER with two girls behind the counter that couldn't have cared less, or moved any slower. Anyway... walked out of there, and pulled into bagels 101, and received super fast and kind service. I was out of there in no time.. with great food. The egg sandwiches were perfect, bagels are de-lish and the regular and lite cream cheese is great.. I'm not a fan of the veggie cream cheese though.. they leave the vegetables way too chunky for my taste. I always received great service, and I've never been disappointed. Great job and thanks a lot!
