I got the Avocado Dream on a bialy the first time I got here and it was pretty decent. I switched it up to concocting my own bagel the previous visit - sprouts, lettuce, tomato, egg, cheese and avocado, all on a veggie bagel. Now, that was pretty darn good. The bagel, like other reviewers have mentioned, are more on the chewy side and are a little smaller than regular bagels, but they fill you up nicely. I'm a fan. read more

CASH ONLY! This bagel place is legit! This is the second best bagel I've had in my life. The 1st one was in Wildwood, NJ. Making this place my #1 in the DMV. Bought a turkey and cheese melt with sprouts and tomato on a veggie bagel. Turkey and cheese melt was $6.99 and the additional toppings were an additional $0.35 each. My bagel totaled to $9.17 which was decent for the portion of food they gave. The Korean adjummas (translates to aunties in Korean) that run and operate the place are extremely efficient. Such speedy service! I love that they sell bags of day old bagels for under $2. Look for them in the brown basket under the 'Hot Bagels' sign. There's more seating in the back in addition to the 4 tables they have set up in the front (2 outside, 2 inside). read more

I do not understand the hype for this place... it's fine, but there's no way it's a strong 4-star contender. I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could, mostly because it's true that the food came out very fast. I came here on a Friday at about 11am. I happened to be in the area and was looking for breakfast places that wouldn't break the bank, so I stopped by and ordered a bagel with scrambled eggs and ham. The bagel came out very quickly, but it was tiny -- the bagel itself is so thin. I guess it's cheap relative to the area, but seriously, it's not worth $4.44. The closest I've found to a legit bagel shop in DC, and unfortunately, the secret is out, as evidenced by the long line every weekend morning. But fear not for the staff is efficient as could be and the line moves fast. The everything bagel is delightfully and perfectly chewy, and the bagel's the perfect size for me and not one of the grocery store monstrosities. I have found it difficult to call in orders as the phone often isn't picked up on the weekend, and even when it is, the staff seems to have trouble hearing and understanding. Coming in at a peak time (Sunday morning), the line filled up this narrow place. I had half a mind to leave. However, once I was in line I realized that waiting was a good decision. They have a variety of breakfast sandwiches which do not interest me. I just want bagels, not the et cetera. The bagels I got were delicious, the sort of delicious that is likely to demand repeat visits. Extra chewy. They have quite a few varieties if plain doesn't do it for you. I'm a fan of their veggie bagel (tastes like tomato and spinach), jalepeno bagel, and cheese bagel. I found the salt bagel rather disgusting; I'd steer clear. It's a cash business; fortunately I had cash but keep this in mind. Less than a dollar a bagel. The bagels aren't huge, but for this neighborhood it's a good deal. Also, they often have day old bagels at two dollars for a bag of five; good way to try new flavors and they last well enough for me. Their location is a reasonable walk to the Dupont Metro, and next to the P Street Bridge to the heart of Georgetown. There's a few tables in back and outside of the store should you want to eat here. I took a morning stroll at 6:00am trying to find a bagel shop. Bagels are a great breakfast for picky high schoolers and to feed a group of people. I ended up having an amazing walk through Washington DC on the side streets with overhanging changing colored trees. I passed a few closed bagel shops and finally stumbled upon Bagels Etc. I'm not sure if this is a true East Coast bagel everyone raves about since it was my first one. If so, it was amazing! Soft fluffy inside with a crisp outside. I just grabbed some plane bagels and a tub of butter, regular cream cheese and strawberry cream cheese. Let's just say myself and my whole group were fans of the bagels. You can tell they were popular as well because I came in early and they already were getting low. The strawberry cream cheese stole the show. It has actual pieces of strawberry in it. Yum yum. I just moved downtown and was in search of a good bagel. Reviews were solid, so I went to get a bagel this morning. Now let me start by saying that I am not a germaphobe, but what I saw when ordering should give pause to any customers. I approached the counter, placed my order and handed the cashier my $5 bill. She was not wearing gloves, handled the bills and change with both hands. THEN she reached under the counter into the bins with the bagels, grabbed my plain bagel, bare handed, and gave it to the cook to prepare. BARE HANDED AFTER HANDLING MONEY!! Just a reminder, money is dirtier than a toilet seat AND your cell phone. Touching money and then food with bare hands is unsafe, unsanitary and flat out disgusting. Pretty much every other customer was staring at their phones, so maybe no one else noticed how their food was handled...but I did. As I had already paid, and the line was long, I opted to just leave sans bagel (and sans bacteria from unsanitary food prep). GROSS. read more

Okay, I'm from New York, but, to be clear, I was never expecting the deliciousness of biting into a warm, freshly-made bagel topped with a schmear of cream cheese or your favorite jam. I do, however, prefer my bagels to taste like bagels and not like stale rolls that were microwaved to adequate softness and then served to me as if I shouldn't know any better. Starbucks gives you a better bagel. The reason I continue to come back is because it's really the only place in town where you can get an egg sandwich and a coffee for under $2 (or, it's the only place I know of in town where one can procure such a meal.) Plus, it's about 20 steps from my apartment. Here's the reason for two stars, aside from the lackluster taste of the bagels: - The place doesn't take credit cards. Really? The monochromatic straight outta 1985 $3 per transaction ATM isn't a viable substitute for this poor business practice. - The line is always long even if there are only five people on it. This is because the walkway is incredibly narrow and it makes maneuvering around people more of a game than it should be. - You can only use plastic utensils. Sure, the majority of the customers take their food stuffs to go, but at least have the option for those of us who choose to utilize the outside patio to use something a little less wasteful. - The owners and operators speak only enough English to understand the different "order numbers" given to them. Case in point: I told the gentleman behind the counter that I wanted 2 eggs on a poppy seed bagel with turkey sausage. He looked at me. I repeated my order. He looked at me again. "What number?" he said. "Ummm... number 9?" I said, vacillating between #9 (which didn't include meat) and #10 which did. "Number nine no come with meat," he said curtly. "Okay, so number 10." The fact that we even had to have the ensuing conversation was a little irritating. - The servers are nice, and they try to be quick, but I often find myself watching customers who walked in after me walk out with their food before me. - The coffee is watered down worse than a Sopranos episode on A&E... and I don't drink coffee. The egg sandwiches are pretty good, though. They're not filling, but, then again, you just got a non-McDonald's breakfast for $2... you can afford to splurge on the OJ. read more
