Good bread. If you want to eat lunch at the restaurant, however, don't come hungry. The lunch portions are tiny, but the quality of the food is outstanding. I often buy baguettes there because in my experience there are none better or cheaper in the Riverside area. However there are bakeries beyond Riverside, most notably in Westminster, where you can get baguettes of equivalent quality for about half the price. Their catered meals are quite good and a great value. They provide a wide selection of vegetarian and meat sandwiches. They cut them into mini sandwiches so everyone can taste the variety. Their salads are also impressive. The apple walnut is especially tasty, with fresh, crisp greens and a tangy, yet round and rich vinaigrette. If you need to have a lunch catered for a little office party or something, there is no better place I know than Baguette. Pretty good food, decent prices, clean restaurant. Staff was fairly friendly, the place seemed like it was run by students and/or family. Found this place on yelp, a co-worker and I decided to do sandwiches and we've been to all the sandwich places in Riverside proper. The thing that set this place apart was that they throw french fries in with the healthy menu that they seem to be pushing. Baked chips made more sense to me with my Cajun shrimp sandwich. I later realized that the popcorn sized "shrimp" may have been deep fried or sauteed as they were quite oily, nevertheless flavorful and pleasing on the palette. The downside with the Cajun shrimp sandwich is they charge an extra dollar but the portions are a little "shiesty." IMHO - hence the 4 stars, it would get 4.5 if that's possible, but missed the mark with the 5 stars here. Definitely can finish the whole meal in a sitting. There are places I frequent that you cannot finish the whole sandwich meal in a sitting and those are places I tend to frequent more. Decided to come here for lunch one day with some friends and I ordered the steak portabello sandwich on ciabatta bread and to my surprise, it was nice and tasty! I purchased the combo so it came with fries and a drink for $2.50 more or whatever it was. The fries just tasted like regular ol' fries from any of those greek burger joints. For the price of the sandwich, it wasn't bad but they could give you a little more for what you're paying. I'd come back to get it again! They even give you a stamp card for when you've purchased 10 sandwiches, you get a free one. Good experience in all! This bakery / cafe is hidden in between Rockstar Shrimp and Boba Tea House, so I was surprised when I arrived. I never noticed this place, but I'm glad I did! My boyfriend and I were both starving that day and I decided to come check out this place after seeing it on Yelp. After looking at the menu, I ordered the full size Rosemary Chicken in a Baguette and my boyfriend ordered the full size Steak & Portobello. The lady gave us 3-4 types of bread to choose from, but I forgot what they are. Portion & Price: The price is definitely cheap for college students! A full size sandwich costs a little over $5 depending on the meat. Orders could be made into combos with salad, fries, or cookie for an additional price. I was a student at UCR. Graduated in '08. I really miss this place. I get cravings for it. I want to drive there just to get it now... but by the time I'd get there it'd probably be closed, and... actually I wouldn't drive for an hour just for a sandwich. But if I didn't have work tomorrow, I'd drive there to hang out with some friends, crash on someones couch, and then wake up to go to this place. My favorites there: the Veggie Tofu "Ham" on Ciabatta (No seriously, when I stopped eating meat because I thought it would help me save the world, the Tofu Ham kept me alive. And even when I went back to slaughtering cows and chickens, I'd still order the Tofu Ham. It's that good.), the BBC Cajun Shrimp on Ciabatta, the Rotisserie Chicken on Ciabatta, and the Steak Portabello on Ciabatta. I always order the Ciabatta because it makes the sandwich look bigger, and big food makes me happy. I always chose a side salad with the house dressing, but I'd gladly eat someone else's fries. Got the full steak portabello combo with fries. Fries were under-seasoned and steak on ciabatta was hugely disappointing. How? The supposed steak isn't really steak. At least not to me. Its more like a few slices of roast beef thrown on the grill for a bit. Also, I didn't know that getting the steak portabello as a meat choice in combo form costs $1 extra so that didn't help. I don't mind paying $1 extra for steak, but for roast beef? Noooo. Total with tax came out to $8ish. This is really supposed to be 4.5 star review. I cannot believe I have never been here! All the years at UCR and being such a big foodie! However, I am so glad that I came across this place. This was one of the first places I went to as a UCR student and after many years of coming here, I am glad to say that Baguette has been consistent on the quality of baguettes, pastries, sandwiches, fries, and drinks. I would return to Riverside and go here for a snack or two while visiting people! Baguette Bakery is one of my top choices to eat at when I'm in Riverside. Located in a discreet plaza next to UC Riverside, it definitely gets it's business by good words from it's customers. This is a good place for lunch, not so much for dinner since they close quite early, usually by 6pm on a school night. The interior is decorated cafe style, with free wifi. They serve sandwiches with your choice of the bread, either french roll, baguette, ciabatta, or rodeo roll. Albeit I used to work at this place, I remember I loved it even before I took a delivery and cashier's job here. From an insiders point of view, they really do try to keep everything clean and tidy. I would recommend the Rosemary Chicken, Steak Portobello, Cajun Shrimp, I usually have mine on the ciabatta bread since it's the softest. If you really want to chow down lots of food, get the "Noah's Ark" which is the sandwich with your choice of 2 types of meat. If you don't eat an awful lot, try getting the petite combo 2, which almost is always much bigger than just simply half of the whole sandwich. The bread used for the petite combo is cut from a longer piece of bread, so you'll get a good amount. You MUST try their fries, it's super good for a good reason. They only leave the fries in for 2 minutes, and only begin frying them when you have ordered it. All the bread, cookies, even crutons for the salad are made right in the store. Oh how I loved cutting bits and pieces of those bread for crutons. I can only say good things about Baguette because, well, they deserve it for having such good food. read more

I always have a soft spot in my heart for local sandwich places, and I really want to love this place, but I just think that it is okay. I have never had a bad experience here, but I just don't ever feel the urge to come back here. I think the best thing that stands out that I've had the few times I've been here is the Rosemary Chicken sandwich. It's good and the rosemary flavor is great with the chicken, but I think I wish there was more meat in the sandwich. I think that would be the difference between an okay and a great sandwich. I also wish they had sides worth being excited over like deli salads (potato, macaroni, pasta, etc.). Maybe this is just me nitpicking over what I have had. I will give it to them that their prices are very reasonable, especially since they are using quality ingredients. Maybe I should just ask for double meat next time. There were many elements to my experience here. Some deserved 4/5 stars, others 1/2. First the service. I walked up to the door, and the chick was cleaning the window, instead of moving/opening the door, she just stood there, awkwardly, like she's invincible and I can just walk through her. No, thats, not how life works. Anyway, it kind of just set up what the service was gonna be like from there. She was quick, just didn't seem very friendly/pleasant. Which I'm not hating on, it just wasn't phenomenal. After looking at other yelp reviews i decided to get the steak portabello. And I've said it before, and it's fucking true, the bread makes the sandwich. The Ciabatta was delicious, as was the sandwich. I feel I could have made it at home if I had the correct leftovers, but I don't, so I'm glad they have it here ready to go. I also got the cookies, which taste homemade. Homemade as in they weren't phenomenal, but you can tell they use real ingredients. The price though, that's a steal. For 7ish(with discount) you get a soda, steak sandwich and homemade cookies. I've been trying to find my holy grail sandwich place in Riverside when I stumbled upon this place on yelp, and I think this MAY be it (not sure, don't quote me on it; I will update my review once I drop my final verdict). I checked the location and realized it was in the Boba Tea House plaza and I wondered why I never saw it. Then, when I actually went to the place, I realized it was right next door and was definitely overshadowed by the popularity of the boba shop. I walked in, and the girl at the counter was very friendly. A "regular" walked in shortly after I did, and we all had a nice conversation, and the atmosphere just overall seemed very chipper and upbeat. The place was clean and well-lit, and there is a pitcher of water for you to drink from if you are thirsty while you wait for your order. So far, I have tried their portabella steak and mushroom sandwich and their rosemary chicken sandwich. I read tons of good things about both on this yelp page, and I must say, the portabella wins. It has a very unique taste to it -- sweet and savory and delicous. The bread-filling ratio is spot on. The ciabatta has a wonderful texture when you bite into it. The lettuce and tomato are wrapped so that you can neatly finish the sandwich for the most part. I felt great after eating the sandwich -- not too heavy or sluggish. This place is definitely a must-try. It might be a little expensive for the portion you're getting, but their food is so good it's definitely worth a visit. read more

Pretty good price - 6.50 plus tax for a full sandwich, a side (I get the fries) and a drink. The half combo is 5.50... there are a bunch of other options when it comes to meat, choice of bread and sides, but I don't know them. There's a Noahs's Ark that costs more - your choice of four meats but I've never dared. They do serve salads, which I hear people ordering pretty frequently so you might want to give them a shot. So, in addition to the flatter sandwich, my fries were WAY too buttery. I felt like I was having butter with a side of fried potatoes. I don't recall that being the case before. Was it a fluke? This is my favorite place for lunch. Its extremely consistent with excellent food quality and reasonable prices. The best thing to order here for lunch is the Rosemary Chicken sandwich. They bake the chicken daily, which is a nice touch compared to typical deli meat. I've been ordering the grilled beef sandwich with the baguette lately to vary it up a little. I got the tuna, and it was actually a little bigger and WAY better than what you'd get at Subway, for only $1 more. Here, they bake their own ciabatta, there was fresh, crunchy bell pepper mixed with the tuna, and the sauce is great. PLUS it's a local business and not a cookie-cutter franchise like almost everything else around. I'd just like to see more dessert options. The shop has a bakery case, which got me excited, but it's disused and covered up with wallpaper, which made me sad. But what's up with the styrofoam water cups?? It's not recyclable, it's not biodegradeable, and there's absolutely no reason for any restaurant to use it. Baguette Bakery is a welcome refresh among the usual suspects of food around Riverside. Definitely my go-to place when I'm craving a sandwich, especially for lunch. They are primarily a catering service, so their storefront doesn't have too many options. I usually get the Rosemary Chicken or Rotisserie Chicken sandwich combo with fries and an iced tea. They use an awesome ciabatta bread that is soft yet sturdy, the chicken is flavorful, and the spread they use is delicious. The fries are always fried to perfection and have a little crunch to it. I live in the apartments right behind them so I usually call in an order and walk over to grab it. They do have seating inside though and the place is well kept and clean. The employees are all nice and the owner definitely makes you feel welcome and will strike a conversation. It's relatively healthy compared to other fast food options and won't leave you feeling gross for the rest of the day. Everyone enjoyed the food, randomly you would hear someone say, "OMG this sandwich is delicious" , "Wow this is great" ... I was very pleased with their service as well. My only suggestion is changing the wrapping to the hot sandwiches (at least for catering). Great catering platters! We ordered a full on breakfast order for a meeting; a bacon & egg, egg sandwich platter, pastries and drinks. BB was kind enough to include extra strips of bacon on the side. They must've know who they were working with ;) The aioli spread on their sandwich is amazing! I wished my chiabatta was a bit more toasty and browned a bit. That's my only gripe. I really enjoyed the assorted pastries and the muffins were delicious. Moist and buttery. My favorite was their orange poppy seed. This place is pretty good. It's a nice little quiet cafe in this kinda shady looking plaza... I used to go there just for the desserts (I loved their tiramisu) but now they only offer it through their catering =( I went there for my lunch break and got the lunch special that included the steak portabello sandwich, french fries and a medium drink. Very close to UCR and one of the best bakeries around Riverside (Riverside doesn't have much of a selection when it comes to Good food). I didn't have Yelp when I lived in Riverside, but I had to write a review for this place. I really miss their Steak & Portabella sandwich! The sandwich itself is satisfying, but it's their signature sauce! It's a mixture of something and mustard seed. Half of their steak sandwich, with fresh thick cut fries and your good. A friend and I have been going to Boba Tea House next door to meet up to do school work. We've been going there so frequently and been getting tired of the same selection of food that we wanted to try this place. It was a pleasant experience with good food. I got the steak portabello on multi-grain meal. You can choose one for three items from fries, chips, or cookies. I chose the fries. It also comes with a drink for $8-9 for the full sandwich. The lady who took my order was really nice. When I also asked for the wifi password, she made sure I was able to connect. I have to admit their internet is a bit slow though, which I wasn't thrilled about because I needed it to do schoolwork. However, it is a lot quiter than Boba Tea House. They don't keep as many pastries on display as they used to, but if you're lucky enough to be there on a day when they have them, you should definitely try them out! I think the best deal is the Perfect Combo #1, which includes a drink, plus a choice of french fries, cookies, chips, or side salad for $6.50. If you're feeling a little adventurous, you can even upgrade your drink (I think it's $1.50) to one of their frappies, smoothies, or teas.
