I'm upset to be leaving such a low review but I can't remember the last time I was so disappointed at a banh mi shop. The shop is located in a fairly busy strip mall with lots of different cultural food options. It's a small mom and pop shop, a little too cluttery for my liking, but I think that's just the charm of it. They have a simple menu and a selection of Vietnamese foods/drinks, not just baguettes. Upon ordering, the lady stated that everything is made to order and that placing an order over the phone would be best. I left spending $50 on two banh mi baguettes and three orders of spring rolls. I was quite shocked at how fast that added up. I was even more shocked once I received my order! Spring rolls: Pork: decent flavor, moist and tasteful. Shrimp: literally just ONE shrimp (they halved them) in the spring roll. Beef: more like beef jerky. The meat was so dry and tough. The sauce for the spring rolls had some flavor but not as much as I would like. Express special baguette: Bread: was good, crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside, not the kind of bread that's flaky, leave too much crumbs or cuts the roof of your mouth. Filling: pate on the bread, with a few slices of cold cut Vietnamese meats and a sprinkle of veggies. The baguette, along with the spring rolls were definitely overpriced. It looks like everything was just sprinkled on top. There were a lot of lettuce in the spring rolls, but even that wasn't fresh. For the price of the baguette, we could have at least gotten more veggies such as the pickled carrots/cucumbers/cilantro. For the quality and portions of the food, I wouldn't mind paying a few dollars less. But for the amount they were charging, I expected a little bit more. Ordered ahead online through their website: two sandwiches, two Thai teas, and an order of veggie spring rolls. When I arrived, they handed me egg rolls instead of veggie spring rolls--and then tried to charge me for the egg rolls even though that wasn't what I ordered. On top of that, when I paid online, the system included the tip in the total so I could just pick up the order and go. When I got to the register, the cashier looked at the receipt and then asked why I didn't leave a tip. I showed her that the tip was already included in the online total. She still insisted I hadn't tipped and kept questioning me like I was trying to get away with something. Super uncomfortable and unnecessary. Between getting the wrong food, trying to charge me for it, and then being questioned about tipping even after showing proof, this was not a good experience. We found this low-key baguette place on Yelp and figured, why not? We grabbed the banh mi special and some Vietnamese coffee. Everything tasted fresh, and that coffee was pretty solid. This is a hidden gem, considering it's in San Bernardino. One of the best Banh Mi sandwiches I've ever had. I ordered the BBQ pork w/ extra meat and it didn't disappoint. Everything on it was good, but I think what made it perfect was the bread wasn't overpowering. It wasn't gigantic, like some Banh Mi places try to do. It was just the perfect size, so everything was balanced well. The bread was also warm and toasty. I also had a Thai Iced Tea, but wasn't a fan of the flavor. While I was still near Cal State San Bernardino area yesterday, I was curious if there is any Vietnamese baguette and boba places nearby. So I started looking for them on Yelp. Thanks to Yelp, I found a couple places. I chose Baguette Express since their 4 stars rating is pretty good. Of course, that doesn't mean anything until you experience it yourself, right? Perspective is each person's own to give. Anyway, it was about 6 mins from JIB where I was at the time. Walked into this colorful restaurant... it's a very small and quaint mom and pop place. No other customer was in here at the time so that worked out nicely for me. A lovely lady walked up and greeted me at the counter... she may have been the owner not sure... anyway, I ordered the Express Special and Cajun Shrimp (thought I try something new and different and I love shrimp... don't want to eat the same old boring foods unless they are a must eat every time and I have some of those on my food list LOL). Pricing is quite high for a Vietnamese baguette sandwich ($9.99 each), but then again they may be the one and only Vietnamese sandwich shop in the area. Lee's baguette sandwiches are about $6 each nowadays. When there's more competition, pricing tends to be more competitive. When there's not, anything goes I guess. Before leaving, I also bought one long baguette for $4.95. Thought I try it since I'm here... well, I have to say it was the most expensive baguette I've ever bought in my life... that's how it goes sometimes. I gave the lady $5 and said keep the change. Cajun Shrimp was really tasty, but portion was small especially at the price I paid. Express Special was just okay... I didn't care for the kind of meats and soy sauce in the sandwich... again it could have been bigger for the price. Veggies were fresh though. Baguette was okay nothing special... again size could have been wider and longer for the price. I could have gotten two bigger and longer baguettes for the price of one out in the San Gabriel Valley area... just saying. Will I be back here? Probably not unless I'm craving to try their Pho. What can I say? *takes nostalgic deep breath* Baguette express is THE BUSINESS! It has remained a favorite of mine since my college years at CSUSB back in 2008. Fast forward to 2021 and it is still a go to anytime I am near the area. I have tried a number of items in their menu including their bbq pork plate, chicken teriyaki plate, teriyaki baguette, bbq pork baguette, combination spring rolls, and egg rolls. Just two weeks ago, I tried their crab rangoons and they did not disappoint! I am so grateful that this wonderful establishment is still in business and that the quality of their food and service continues to be of the highest. Living in LA, next to Tai Town. I eat lots of food. Especially Vietnamese and Tai. The fresh bread, marinated pork, and chicken nuggets are worth the drive. Baguette Express is better than any place I have been to in Los Angeles. Reading some of the lower reviews, the complaints have more to do with consumer inflation and the cost of ingredients rather than quality. As well reflecting the amount of prep this particular restaurant has to put in. Other negative reviews are quantity complaints. Most people have never had real Vietnamese or Tai food. Saying this at 216lbs, myself. Don't expect the same portions as us Americans are used to eating. Flat out, give it a try! read more

Everything was delicious and fresh. My boyfriend and I came and tried out their sandwiches and smoothies. We felt content and full but we weren't left with that sluggish feeling you get after eating certain meals. They make their bread which is incredibly soft and warm. Besides the bread being made fresh onsite that's about all I have to say we enjoyed as a family . I was excited to give them a try and support however we all left disappointed in what we got in the food and how much we paid $50 for a family of four and the upfront tipping before we got our food . We got one veggie pho , four sandwiches and one Thai tea with boba . Food tasted bland and not fresh at all . Veggie pho was not traditional at all with baby carrots in it and celery . The broth was disgusting and the worst one I've ever had . Not to mention it didn't come with anything traditional bean sprouts , basil , white onion, limes or the sauces .
