While my second visit to this place wasn't that great, I have been back numerous times since because this is the only place my goddaughter ever wants to go to. After trial and error I have found my favorites on the menu and have since enjoyed my meal every time. She and I both love the black bean soup. The appetizer nachos are huge and great for the whole table to share. Some of the chips were burnt, but the kids didn't seem to mind and there were lots of yummy toppings that made it taste ok. Half price appetizers until 6p is a great deal. Service is quick and friendly. Ambience is nice - large booths/tables for families, with the bar area completely separate. Island decor on the booths is a nice touch. Looking forward to trying the outdoor seating area when it warms up. read more

We called ahead when we got there we were seated promptly. Nice vibe/atmosphere outside. There was a guy playing steel pan and singing. We were seated inside because there was a wait for outside seating. Service was courteous and prompt. Inside had a moderate buzz not loud The Island Hopper appetizer was good. The jerk sauce needs work though. Then again I'm Jamaican so my taste for jerk food or sauce is very different from most people. My wife ordered the chicken taco entrée which she said was bland. She had to add salt and pepper and it still wasn't good. I shared my meal with her which was pretty good. I got the Wood Grilled Almond Crusted Salmon with string beans and mashed sweet potato. The drinks and the service are what get four stars. The food...it's alright. The first time we came to Bahama Breeze, my husband had some kind of rum punch, which touched his heart and made him dream about for days and days. The next time ate here, it was off the menu, and we couldn't remember the name, but the waitress and another girl working there, did everything in their power to figure out what it was. We listed the ingredients we could vaguely remember, they scoured their drink list, consulted the bartender, and eventually figured out what it was. We really appreciated their effort when they could have just as easily said "no, we don't have that, pick something else". Their spicy mango mojito was also DELICIOUS. I don't recommend the Ahi Tuna Stack. While the tuna was tasty in the end, I was originally tantalized by the picture of it. Small crackers that were stacked with overflowing layers of delicious looking rare tuna. What I received was like small plate-sized unsalted stale Saltines with a half teaspoon dollop of tuna in the very center. You could barely notice the tuna between the layers. It was tasty, but looked oh so skimpy and I felt tricked by the photo on the menu. Not worth the price. read more

I like to go places where I can have low carb meals if I so choose. Well, this fits the bill. I enjoyed a low carb Cobb salad with blue cheese dressing. The live music on the patio is excellent. When the musician is on break, the island music is enjoyable too. Service from my waitress as at comfortable pace and was good. I saw the manager several times, working on the floor, helping the servers bussing tables, but he never spoke to us...or anyone else while we were here. WORSE service I've ever had in a restaurant. Only table of 6 there tonight. Our waitress Autumn was "training" another waitress - and I use that term very loosely. Once she brought our entrees she never came back to the table - never even asked us if the meals were ok. Didn't even clear the dirty dishes. Looked for her for 20 minutes to get the check - discovered she was standing in the bar with 4 other employees talking. Had to literally get half out of my seat and wave my arms to get her attention. We always leave a minimum of 20% for even average service - more for better service. The 10% my husband left was not even earned. The MENUS were still at our table with the dirty dishes when we left. Don't reject this place just because it's a chain! I was apprehensive about checking it out but went anyway and did not regret it. Quick warning : do not go on a Friday or Saturday night and expect to be seated with the quickness. If that expectation is absurd at T.G.I.Friday's on peak nights why do you think a restaurant near the mall would be different? If the weekend is your only option, get there before 5pm. The Food: The first time I went, I had the Fire Cracker Shrimp as an appetizer and the Seafood Paella. The Firecracker Shrimp were tasty and addictive (that dipping sauce is dangerous just like the liquid crack they give you to dip Bloomin Onions in so WATCH OUT!). The Paella was also joy for my palate sans the indescript sausage. Note that the menu doesn't say chorizo or andouille whenever it mentions sausage and our server had no idea what kind it was either. It tastes wicked salty like dry salami so know that going in. The scallops, mussels, shrimp and chicken were done to perfection, no rubbery resistance to contend with. The second time: Conch Fritters and the Coconut Shrimp Entree. Delicious and delicious! For those who are iffy about the coconut because of the potential excessive sweetness, please know that while coconut is naturally sweet, the shredded stuff they use at Bahama Breeze doesn't go overboard. I've been to places where it seemed like they bought their shredded coconut from the confections aisle where it's guaranteed to have added sugar (great for dessert but cloying and gross for fried seafood). Servers, Booze and Timing: Both times, my servers kicked a$$. My first visit server pushed drinks big time but it was a Friday night so, why wouldn't he push the drinks? Had a mojito which was meh but it wasn't pricey so I didn't feel like I wasted my money on it. He was very patient with all my questions about the food despite how busy it was. Our food came out at just the right pace which I was very impressed by after a 40 minute wait. The second time I was there the entrees came out way before we finished our appetizers but I considered the alternative and counted that as a plus. Had the Pom Paloma mixed drink which was just boozy and fruity enough to keep me content with only having one. Our server was very polite and genuinely friendly. We stopped eating here after a few bad experiences. We went one day after work and it was slow with half of the tables being open in the restaurant. We still had to wait 15 minutes to be seated. We also stopped getting their cocktails because they were either mixed wrong and tasted horrible or they were watered down. I guess this was bound to happen sooner or later. Probably sooner, but sad to say RACISM is alive and well in Newark. I sat down by myself and was ignored by the bartender for probably 5 minutes or so. She finally came over and said "do you need a menu" with a scowl on her face. I couldn't figure out why because I took a shower today and was as polite always. So I ordered my food and when it came out Corrinda didn't say a word just slipped down my plate and walked off. A short time later an African American couple sat down at the bar near me. Corrinda promptly walked over to them and said in an enthusiastic voice " Hi I'm Corrinda, I will be serving you tonight, what can get for you guys?" They said they weren't sure and she said "Here let me make some suggestions for you." I almost fell out of my chair. It was obvious as the tramp stamp on Corrinda's large posterior that she was pissy with me because I happen to be the wrong race at the wrong time to sit down at HER bar. So I didnt give her a monetary tip, instead of gave her some words of wisdom beyond her years. I wrote in the tip line to treat all your guests the same and you will receive a tip. I ALWAYS tip 20% or better even if the service is below par, I figure that sometimes people aren't on the top of their game. There are times I will double and triple a tip by augmenting it with cash when I feel the person needs it or has had a really bad day in the hopes a nice customer will make them feel better. So I tried to call the manager but was never able to get through and thought this forum may bring to light what kind of person Bahama Breeze has as the face of their Newark location. ****UPDATE***** I attempted to contact MS.Rozanc at the Bahama Breeze corporate office, but my calls have not been returned. Today we visited the store located in Christiana Mall Delaware. Upon arrival around 3:35 pm, and after driving 2 hours to enjoy the food, I was indicated they were short staff and I needed to wait 15 minutes. Shortly after the manager started to work the front desk and got us seated. After ordering the same food we always get at this location the skirt steak churrasco, it was overcooked after requesting it medium, also had no seasoning at all, only the chimichurri on top without any taste, and the white rise was a nasty steaky ball of rice. My son's burger was also overcooked after requesting it medium and the applewood bacon was missing. After they replaced my wife's churrasco with another burger, she asked for the burger with American cheese but they used cheddar instead. The kitchen picked our plates to screw them up. After the second plate screwed up the server apologized and told us it was possible the kitchen personnel was busy and mess things up on our plates, only to find out the server also contributed to some of their mess by not writing the order correctly as far as the cheese selection goes. I spoke to a supervisor and she also indicated they were having some issues with the kitchen and were going to notify the kitchen manager. I pay the full amount for our meals and I don't think is fair they decided to screw my meals up because they could get good quality control in the kitchen and a server that could listen to plain English. read more

Beware of price gouging and horrible service! Never again! The menu, the combos price does not include weekends and during the week it's only 11-4. I was informed of this when I placed my order with Keyonna on the phone. I ordered a substitution, and they didn't substitute my veggies, they added 2 sides though and charged me for the ones I substituted and didn't receive. I was not informed of this upcharge, which more than doubled the price. The menu price was $8.79 for 3oz of chicken tortilla soup which was excellent, a 1/2 dz of coconut shrimp, 3oz of spicy slaw, and a piece of bread. This upcharge was $21!!!! Had dinner at Bahama Breeze last evening with a good friend. My first visit. Our server - Devin - was great! He was very personable, knowledgeable about the menu offerings and took good care of us. We ordered jerk wings appetizers. It seems unusual to get whole wings these days, so we were pleasantly surprised to get them.
