So sad... I want to love this place and I've been here at different bartenders hours and on different days. Worst service is more often than not. I can't speak about the kitchen as far as what's brought to us, but when I order some thing with, for example, jalapeños, and no jalapeños arrive, is that a Service thing or a kitchen thing that remains to be not?. It's a beautiful location and the evening bartenders. I don't know. Their names are amazing. But you come early. It's hidden mess. They're too busy interacting with each other and I said there with an empty drink while they're having a conversation. read more

Walked in 9:30 on a Saturday night and the place was empty!! I asked the "kid" at the door if they were still open - he said "yes". Walked to the bar and saw the bartender - big guy with a beard who greeted me with "we're closing in 15 minutes"..... not "sir we're closing soon but I can get you a drink". I told him the kid at the door said you were open?? I walked out throwing my hands up saying nothing. This ignorant bartender walked out from behind the bar and followed me out the door saying "you don't have to get mad about it". (In a confrontational manner) I turned around and told Mr Personality I just walked a mile to find the place closed - that's it. Wonder why a huge bar / restaurant / with the largest dance floor is empty on a holiday weekend!! No don't blame it on UD being out. Walked out and won't to back even though it the closest place to my home. Most places are making the most money between 10 and closing ??? Sorry I didn't look like a frat brother. I'm a 63 year old professional that actually tips and was in the business. Your lose. Never again. Have not been in years due to crap service and thought I would give it another shot. Lesson learned. I stopped in Timothy's, which is kind of tucked away, but has plenty of seating everywhere and the staff is very friendly! I got there after 6pm and thought I missed any happy hours that they had but I was happy to find that it went until 7! There were food and drink specials which was great! There were plenty of beers or tap and the brussel sprouts were delicious and came out so quickly. Great place to stop in and try always have specials going on during games and stuff! read more

We recently had the pleasure of hosting a Rehearsal dinner and Welcome Toast for our Sons wedding this past September 2025. The Rehearsal dinner was for 20-people and the Welcome Toast was ~90-total. Everything was PERFECT! I was nervous at first because Chase just seemed really laid back and I was concerned we were going to miss something or it might be disorganized - but it was Perfect! It was the most low stress event I've ever hosted because Chase and his staff had everything handled! The space is perfect, they had linens ready, buffet set up and ready, bar was amazing and the bartenders were the absolute BEST! Everyone loved the food - we had filet mignon w/crab louis, salad, wild rice, haricot verts, lobster ravioli for the rehearsal dinner and it was amazing! They switched out the food for the welcome toast and we served the rest of our guests meatballs, crab dip, crab cakes, sliders, and other food. It was all perfect! They set up Champaign for the toast and we hosted beer and wine. Everything truly was perfect! And I cannot speak highly enough about Chase and his staff! If I ever have reason to host another large party in Newark - Timothy's and Chase will be my first call! If you have a child at Univ. of Delaware and need a space for Graduation celebration - this is the place! read more

I come to this bar all the time , and love it here. Had the worst service tonight , 2 brunette girls on a saturday night , bar was not busy. Half our group went to smoke and they called a coworker to ask about people skipping tabs when they could have asked any one of us still sitting at the bar , (never left btw to avoid that issue) and all tabs were paid. Also had major issues with the check and not one time did either of them ask if there were issues or how to fix it, whilst actively avoiding us ,to not have to deal with what could've been a very simple fix. Went there last night for dinner. Sat in a booth. Reached for the ketchup which was against the wall. Saw something dark on the cap when ready to put some ketchup on my food. The spot moved. There were 5-10 small ants all over the cap. Handed it to the person cleaning the table behind us and showed them the ants and told our server as well. She said it was gross but did nothing else except to bring another bottle. Getting ready to pay, lifted my napkin off my lap to the table and found an ant on it. Disgusting experience. Bugs on a restaurant table is inexcusable. The manager should have at the very least acknowledged it and apologized. Will never eat there again. read more

Andrea is a GREAT bartender. The ribs were surprisingly amazing and the shrimp were nice and big. They do need to get Tullamore Dew and Bailey's- only Irish whiskey was Jameson and when we asked for Baileys they only had something cheaper- "Ryan's". Also as an aside when I ordered takeout online the prices were significantly jacked up from actual menu. I now order at bar. Great place, good customer service though! read more

Really enjoyed watching The Eagles games and hanging out with a lot of cool people at Timothy's. This was only the second time I've come here (the last time was about 3 years ago to watch an Eagles game) but both times had great experiences. We got the Bavarian pretzel and the crab dip and both dishes were great. Not pictured here but also tasty were the crab cakes. The servers were friendly, and they seem to have daily specials throughout the week so I'll need to go back again with friends. Overall both times I've gone I've really enjoyed, definitely recommend! read more

This is a regular family stop for us. I have just about tried everything on the menu and I am never disappointed. I highly recommend this restaurant for family nights out or if you just want to go grab a drink on a date night! We've been coming to this place since we moved to the area weekly when my son is done with hockey, I'm Pat particularly fond of their salads in this restaurant as they're always fresh and delicious. I've also ordered many times off of DoorDash to have dinners delivered to our home. They have specials every single night of the week! The staff is always extremely pleasant and the restaurant is well-maintained! They even have a rental space upstairs if you were looking for a small celebration space! read more

We're regulars here...and I've been supporting this business for years. I've eaten in and gotten take out countless times. I've rented/hosted numerous parties upstairs. I'm spent thousands at this place. Quite literally. All this to say, I have skin in the game. I want this business to succeed. I ask the owners and managers to take the following to heart: I visited Timothy's of Newark on September 19th, with my son, around 8:30-8:45PM. We both ordered to-go our usual: two bacon cheeseburgers with cheddar cheese and loaded "cheese fries" as our side. To complement our meal, I also requested sides of blue cheese, horsey ranch, and pickles, all which I paid extra for (see pic). When I arrived, I found our order sitting on a table, but there was no one around to acknowledge me, or take payment. Eventually, a staff member came over, and when I inquired about the contents of the bag and if the side items I requested were in it, she was uncertain. I decided to double-check and, as expected, the side items were not in the bag, and the cheese was missing from the cheese fries. (This happens quite often, which is why I'm finally writing a review...) After my inquiry, she went to the back and returned with two sides of blue cheese and one side of horsey, mentioning that they only had one horsey left. (Huh?) I accepted that, but I still pointed out that my cheese fries were missing the cheese. She returned to the kitchen and came back with two small containers of dipping cheese, but this wasn't what I had ordered. I usually get the loaded cheese fries. Despite explaining this, there seemed to be confusion, and I asked to speak to a Manager. Unfortunately, there was no Manager on site at the time. With my food getting cold, my son waiting in the car, and my exhaustion from a long day, I left my contact number with the staff member and requested that the Manager call me, to address the situation. When the Manager called me, she inquired why I hadn't asked for a Manager while I was at the restaurant. I explained that I did request to speak to a Manager, but it was taking quite a while, my son had just finished football practice, I had worked all day, my food was getting cold, and I was exhausted... She expressed understanding, and I proceeded to detail the entire situation, including the initial mix-up and the subsequent confusion. However, the Manager began offering excuses, mentioning their short staffing issues, difficulty in finding good employees, and constant turnover. She even mentioned that the girl who served me "was only 16 years old," among other reasons. I empathized with these challenges, as I'm a business owner myself, but emphasized that there should be better training, coaching, accountability and leadership in place to handle such situations effectively. I reassured the Manager that I had no intention of getting anyone in trouble, causing job losses, or wanting anyone to face repercussions. Nor did I request any compensation for any of this. All I wanted was to have a better experience and get what I pay for, especially since I'm a regular customer of the restaurant. Unfortunately, though she did apologize and say she wants me to keep returning, she also gave excuses and wanted to "defend" the 16 year old, rather than taking full responsibility for the situation. I ask the owners to read this and take it to heart. You should "want" your customers. Sadly I feel unwanted, like a nag to the employees, and like I was a nuisance to the manager. Last night, I came to Timothy's with 2 other people. This was our second time coming here. We noticed that the service was a bit slower, probably because they're understaffed and it was a Friday night and pretty packed by the bar. However, everyone was very kind including our server, Jack. The food and drinks are pretty good. We ordered the Bavarian pretzel as an appetizer which paired well with the cheese dipping sauce. For my main meal, I got the Cajun cowboy wrap with the fiesta rice. The rice was cooked well and nicely seasoned. The wrap was good, but I thought since it was cajun and has blackened chicken in it there'd be more spice. One person at our table ordered the Mac and cheese as their side and said it was pretty bland, I tried it as well and didn't like it. Other things ordered at the table were the fries and the roasted turkey sandwich, which were both very good! Timothy's is a good place to come to for good food and drinks at a reasonable price. They also have one of the best outdoor seating patios in Newark that's dog friendly! read more

It has been two years since my original review and we came back last night because we were in the area. we found more of the same problems last night that we found last time we had come. We called ahead for a 630 reservation. Upon arrival, the hostess asked us to hold on a minute and walked away to find a manager for someone who was on the phone. After about five minutes, the manager and hostess came back together, ignoring the phone, and asked if we had a reservation. While the outside was quite busy because of the pleasant weather, the inside had only two table sat. We said yes to having a reservation and were sat inside at a table. Multiple servers walked through to get to the porch, but no one came over to greet us for at least 10 minutes. During this period, two additional tables were sat on the other side of the dining room and both had a server come over. At that time, I walked over to the hostess stand to ask if we had a server. She asked me to "hold on a minute" and walked away. I walked back to the table and we sat for another five minutes before I decided to get up and go to the bar to see if one of the bartenders could help us. One of the bartenders said certainly and came over to take our order which was now 20 minutes after we had been there, and one of the servers came over and asked if she was taking care of our table. This is one of the same servers who had walked by us multiple times. Bartender was great. We went to the bar to get drinks and few times, but she was slammed, so I have no issues with that. I did have issues with the kitchen. Appetizers never came out. Meals all showed up, but they weren't correct. Had to send two items back. Bartender apologized and had the apps taken off. Too late anyway. I said I wouldn't make the same mistake again, and this may have been worse than the last time. I'm done with Timothys. read more

Went for a quick lunch yesterday and saw a sandwich on the daily list of specials called The Carmy (or something similar.) It was FANTASTIC! It's a roast beef sandwich on a ciabatta roll with onions, peppers and cooper sharp cheese with au jus on the side. I'm sure it was named after the FX/Hulu show The Bear. Again, it was amazing. I hope they add it to their regular menu!!! read more

Timothy's Restaurant is a gem that caters to all sorts of needs, making it a perfect spot for any occasion. I've had fun at bridal showers, at the bar, and in the restaurant/balcony! My go-to dishes are the onion soup and the Caesar salad with blackened chicken--both are absolutely delicious. The waitstaff has always been personable, especially great for when I'm dining with my young daughter or elderly family. And if the weather's nice, I love their outdoor balcony! read more

You can't see all the bar tables from the hostess stand! Two other visits my order was wrong! Asked for sweet potato's tots got regular ones. In restaurant area - had a waitress that said" I only work on Thursday's at night." It showed bec we never got water refills- she disappeared for awhile and forgot to check back ( if she did I would have asked for more water)! I know staffing is hard but please get people that want to work! Definitely need help in kitchen area. Food quality is going down hill. read more

While looking for potential places to have a baby shower i found this place, my mom and I had lunch to get a feel of the atmosphere. Lunch was really good, server was good as well. Prices are a little high but to be expected in that area. We checked out the party area upstairs and it was perfect so we had the shower there and everything went really well. We have been regulars here for quite a few years. We come as a couple, with other couples, and a couple of times a year with a group of retirees. We spend a lot of money and are generous tippers. I have had a problem with the same bartender twice this year. Each time we sat at a high top, usually waited on by the bartender, but she refuses to wait on us. Which is really fine except that the first time someone in our party went up to bar to order a drink and was told we had waitress service, and our waitress would be in soon. She refused to get them a drink, even though our waitress wasn't even in the building yet, and the bar was not busy at 11:15 in morning. Also, both times I was charged an extra 2.50 per drink because I asked for a tall (I even bring my own soda). The second time not only was I overcharged but the other couple was charged an extra 2.50 per glass of ice for his shots. The second time we caught it and had our waitress correct. Although I understand the bartender just makes the drinks it is odd that it's only happened when this bartender is working and it happened with 2 different waitresses. A longtime waitress and a new waitress. Regardless 2.50 a drink can add up in a hurry. I complained both times to management about the overcharging and the bartender's rude behavior. I would think as far as overcharging they would have corrected the first time. Management is aware of the overcharging but hasn't corrected it. Sounds somewhat unethical to me. I urge everyone to check your bills carefully and speak up if bogus charges. You may have offended someone and not realized it and this seems to be a game to some of the staff and management. The second time I complained I spoke to a young gentleman, the manager. I told him if he didn't want our business to please just tell me. He made it clear he was not saying that and said he would talk to the bartender in question. I returned to my seat at the bar. About 10 minutes later the bartender came flying down the bar shouting at me. She said she had 2 kids and I was coming after her livelihood. If 2 complaints are a threat to your livelihood you probably have bigger problems than my speaking up. She called me cheap and asked if I wanted my $2.00 back. She told me the staff was a team and they had her back. She asked if I wanted the owner's phone number, and I responded yes, I would as the managers I spoke to seemed to do nothing. Of course, she never did get me the number. She did tell me to keep her name out of my mouth. I asked her if she was threatening me. She just repeated her words and walked away promising to get me the boss's number. The fact that she did this in front of a pretty full bar says it all about Timothy's management team. The scene she caused was not only embarrassing and uncomfortable for me but also to the other patrons at the bar. One of the other part time managers was behind the bar with her and never intervened. That showed me the bartender was right about one thing. Staff can do whatever they want and it's okay, they stick together. I felt like I was no longer in a public restaurant but in some private club. I still am not sure if I was threatened or just bullied but either way I will not be returning. I would think this kind of behavior would be a liability issue, but I guess Timothy's is more concerned with staff than paying customers. Stopped here after the Chesapeake Inn. This gives me an old sports bar/pub feel inside. The menu has pretty basic options and the place was maybe half full on a saturday night. I ordered nachos and my friends all ordered food. Honestly didn't take any photos of the food because it wasn't much to look at. They don't have too many top shelf liquor options either. It's a better stop than an apple bees but nothing to brag about. Our service was good, our server was sweet and the bar was right behind us if we needed anything. The red headed host told us 30 min for a table, added us to the list and said he'd come get us from the bar area when table ready. We checked back after we watched him seating people as they came in the door. He said oh I stopped using the list. So he had seated 2-3 parties ahead of us. Then finally seats us but a server never comes to take our order. We watched other tables be seated and served. What a mess and a disappointment. Order to go asked the waitress to please make sure there was ketchup, salt, pepper and utensils included. ordered a burger, fries, Cole slaw and a crab pretzel, burger, crab pretzel and Cole slaw was very good and tasted great but no French fries at all. when I got back to my hotel the bag had no utensil, no ketchup, no salt or pepper. very disappointed in the service. One of my favorite spots in Delaware to get a great Ribeye for $20. It is full of flavor and I always have enough left- overs to take home. The Seafood Chowder is DELICIOUS and never disappoints. Tonight, our waitress was Manda and she did an AWESOME job. She was friendly and attentive. We decided to come here tonight to grab a bite to eat, and watch the championship game.
