My first time at Bahama Breeze and, after three hours of hungry waiting, I never even got to taste the food - and I never will. Mother's Day dinner with my family was ruined, and dinner was the only chance I had to see them all day. We made reservations ahead of time for a party of five for our Mother's Day gathering, and then waited an hour and a half to get seated, while we watched the hostesses seating walk-in parties of two - four at several large booths that would've easily accommodated us and many of the other large parties that had to wait along with us. And that's not all. Once we were finally seated, we waited at our table for ANOTHER hour and a half for our food, and ended up walking out after my husband finally complained to a manager, who promised to get it worked out, but alas, she vanished and our food never arrived. We ended up apologizing to our famished family, grabbing fast food from a place nearby, and driving home alone to eat it. Happy Mother's Day. Major fail, Bahama Breeze! We will not be back, and you can be sure that we will warn others away from trusting this establishment with important occasions - or even just getting served a meal. Bahama Breeze is one of our favorite places when we head off to Florida in the cold Michigan months. We decided to try the Michigan "east side" version of the same place we really love and were severely underwhelmed. First, the air conditioning unit was not working as designed and our dining area was a bit uncomfortable on this hot day, which just started the experience off poorly. Heading to the bathroom to wash my hands right after being seated, I found 2 flights of stairs leading to a slightly smelly and not well kept bathroom. I washed up and headed back to the table, only to hear a couple of staff complaining to their manager about having to work and how miserable it was there. I think that most of the complaining was due to the air issue, but in the middle of the lobby, I just didn't need to add that to my day. We ordered simple ice water with lemon and were served water, with no ice and no lemon...uggh. We mentioned this to our server and were brought lemon wedges a few minutes later, but no ice. Nothing like a nice room temperature glass of lemon water. There were 4 of us and we ordered things ranging from fish tacos to walleye, to Ahi tuna salad and a beef chipotle bowl. The presentation was sporadic, as if the guys in the kitchen said "let's see if we can make some haphazard dishes here to really add to the already frustrating experience of the guest". Digging into the meals themselves, the taste was actually pretty decent, but I was already not having the best of time, so even if it was amazing or wonderful, I would just give it a couple of stars...and only then because our server tried her best to make us happy. As part of the Darden restaurants chain I didn't think I'd like it as I worked at Olive Garden and have see how they "make" the food there, I was skeptical to go here. BUT i have to say I was very surprised by the food they serve here. We've been here about 6-8 times now and I've loved everything I've ever ordered. Food seems to be pretty fresh, actually using fresh herbs and ingredients. The inside is pretty cool, love the music they play, I always feel like I'm on a tropical vacation when I go here. The drinks were perfect. The spinach and artichoke dip was amazing. The ribs barely had any meat. The pineapple bowl was disappointing, all of the rice was at the bottom and the dish was not flavorful. The French fries were really good and tasted just like the ones at chilis. Been coming to this place for years now and normally it's very consistent, but just some little things felt like it was missing today. I had the 8oz sirloin and the steak was medium as I desired, but my broccoli tasted lukewarm like it wasn't as fresh. My wife got the fried buttermilk chicken breast that she loved. Normally i enjoy every meal I have here so which is why I only took out one star. The service was good and our waiter was quick to address my concern when I didn't receive a steak knife which was a plus in my observation. This used to be a family favorite but after our last visit I'm not so sure we'll be back. Beer was warm. Both me and my husband's glasses had chips on the rims. This location also desperately needs some basic cleaning. It was dusty and the windows were filthy on the inside. First time at Bahama Breeze I was super excited considering I've heard many great things! Without a doubt, my visit would not have been complete if I didn't order some type of fruity drink to begin with. Sl I ordered the Virgin Ultimate Pineapple and a Pina Colada. I attribute these 4 stars to those two amazing drinks. The drink menu selection is huge!!!!! There's something in there for everyone. The wait staff and hostess were all very friendly. Our waiter, Drew, was very attentive and kind. Unfortunately my chicken had a very soggy bun and smelled quite odd. My fries were a little sad and flavorless, but the staff really made it up to me. I was not going to say anything about the less than enjoyable chicken burger I ordered, but they noticed and took it off the bill! I told them charge me just for the fries at least and they refused. My partner ordered the Jerk Chicken Pasta which he said was just okay - not bad, not great, just not special. Was back in Michigan for the week and stayed in Troy. As we were looking for a late night snack, among the many restaurants on Big Beaver Rd, I was excited to see Bahama Breeze as an option since they no longer exist in Arizona. We ordered to go but when we got to the restaurant we decided to eat our food at the bar, because you can not go to Bahama Breeze and not have the Margarita Flights. Each of the three margaritas has a unique flavor and the tequila is definitely present. By far my favorite is the Coconut Pineapple. It's so good that I intend to perfect it at home. We ordered the lobster and shrimp linguine and the coconut shrimp. The linguine completely lacked flavor. The shrimp reminded me of the cooked shrimp you get at the grocery store as if they opened the bag and tossed them in the flavorless sauce leading to no flavor upon no flavor. There was plenty of lobster in the dish which made up a bit for the lack of flavor. The coconut shrimp didn't disappoint. The breading was crispy and crunchy as I remembered. The sauce with the shrimp was okay. Overall decent experience. Next time I will stick with my favorites the jerk pasta, coconut shrimp and margarita flight. They were out of coconut shrimp, the blackened fish tacos were hard as a rock, spinach dip was all cream cheese, drinks were so late we had finished dinner before they got there. The live music has got to go. I'm sorry but I just can't. It was very uncomfortable and difficult to make conversation with friends. We asked if we could be seated elsewhere and we were told no even though we had made reservations. Appetizers: we had the coconut shrimp and firecracker shrimp which is always delicious. For my entree I had the calypso shrimp linguine, I asked for a lighter portion but the waiter brought me a full portion and charged me for a full portion. This pasta is my favorite but make sure you tell them extra sauce because the last time I had it, it was pretty dry. They put a lot of shrimp in it, it's worth what you pay for. This is another one of my favorite places to go! It's always a good time when you come here. I love hearing the steel drums out on the patio or sitting around the fire pit. I'm not a seafood person so when I come here I opt for the jerk chicken pasta. It does have a kick to it so if you like things a little spicy but not too hot you will like this! They also have really good French fries and ranch! If your looking for a good frozen cocktail I suggest the bahamarita. They drinks are usually poured pretty good, not too strong but not too weak. The only thing the restroom is upstairs which is a little bit of a walk if your sitting in the front of the restaurant or outside. They do have elevators to make it handicap accessible. I'm not a huge fan of chain restaurants because I like unique dining options and experiences. My date chose our dinner selection. I found the food here to be just a tad above mediocre. I ordered a pineapple based martini which was the star of my dinner. I also had lobster quesadillas and spinach dip. I was bothered by small flying bugs who wanted a bit of my martini. Really, only 2.5 star average for Bahama Breeze? I've been to this location twice - used to go to Livonia but recently moved to this side of town. The first time was with coworkers and the service was a little slow, but meal was delicious. I got the wood-grilled chicken sandwich with mashed sweet potato and it came with a plantain chip too. The second time was today, for a tasting of sorts, and we got to try all different appetizers plus their new drinks. The Painkiller drink is awesome and doesn't even taste like it has alcohol in it, but definitely packs a punch. My favorite of the appetizers were the Jamaican chicken wings, which have a kick to the mall but aren't too spicy, the onion rings, and the beef empanadas, although I have had the chicken empanadas before and liked them a little bit better. I've also had their chips and salsa before and even though I'm not a big salsa fan, I love how fresh it tasted. I would come back to this Bahama Breeze again and maybe try the Bahamarita drink and some of the appetizers during their happy hour, they're half-off then and drinks are reduced too. We have eaten here a few times in the past BY (Before Yelp), usually a coupon brings us in. We have always had good service and food. So when we got another coupon we decided to stop in again; of course we waited until the very last day before the expiration date on the coupon to show up. We got a friendly greeting and were seated immediately and provided menus. The Reggae music playing in the background has a subtle influence so I ordered the Reggae Fest Bahama Sampler that included Jerk Chicken, Beef Empanada, Pulled Pork, Callaloo (cooked greens), Sweet Plantains, Yellow Rice, and Black Beans. My wife ordered the Coconut Shrimp Lunch Combo that came with choice of salad or cup of soup; she chose Chicken Tortilla Soup. For dessert we split a piece of their Key Lime Pie. The dishes we ordered came out quickly and we dug in. The Coconut Shrimp was crispy and delicious and came with a tasty dipping sauce that was actually good on anything. We enjoyed the Chicken Tortilla Soup as well. For the Reggae Fest the Jerk Chicken was seasoned just right - no smoke from my ears but the low burn built slowly. Everything was tasty, mildly hot, and seasoned just right. The Pulled Pork was fall apart tender and the Empanada had a curry flavor to it. The Plantains were done perfectly and had the right amount of sweetness. And there was a fruity chutney that was so good I used it on everything. The only negative was that the Callaloo was a bit too salty for me, although even that was flavorful. I was torn between a 4 and 5 but everything else came together and I always round up Then we tackled and shared a piece of Key Lime Pie. The graham cracker crust was higher than most and very dense but crumbled nicely. The filling was classic Key Lime flavor and one of the better ones I've had outside of Florida. And the swirls of Mango and Raspberry Sauce on the plate added a really nice touch and it was difficult to avoid licking the plate...I didn't. Since we had eaten here before and were consistently pleased with the results of both the food and the service (thanks again Fat jon), we had no hesitation going there again. But I was surprised to find such a spread in all of the Yelp reviews. All I can say is our experiences have been consistently good and we'll be back. read more

After shopping at Nordstrom's Rack we decided to have a bite to eat here. We arrived at 3:30pm on a weekday so we were 30 minutes too early to enjoy happy hour but were still within the time to dine from the luncheon menu. Mom and I both ordered a cocktail called Gommbay Smash ($6.79) which was very tasty. I'm more of a wine drinker but lately am trying to taste different cocktails. I thought this drink pulled the flavors of pineapple and rum, it was good. I chose the Tilapia lunch. For $10.99 I received 2 very large filets, rice and green beans. I opted to pay an extra $2.50 for a Caesar salad. I really wanted blackened fish but they didn't offer that so I settled for the creole selection. Blackened fish would have been much more enjoyable but the tilapia was cooked well and was very filling. For dessert I ordered the Key Lime Pie. I didn't care for it but mom loved it. The crust was delicious and I liked the meringue but the actual lime 'pie' part wasn't thick enough. To me it was more like a cool, loose pudding. Our server, Darniesha, was excellent. I had so much fun here! They have a really good sized menu and something for everyone. For dinner I got The Taste of Jamacia. This includes jerk chicken, jerk pork, greens, rice and beans, caramelized plantains. My finance, Andy, and I also decided to split an appetizer, chicken chimichurri something or other. But they were actually really good, and I don't even like chicken usually. Also, they have an amazing drink menu! So many options, and everything we tried was SO DELICIOUS. I got the ultimate pineapple, which is a drink that comes in a pineapple, with pineapple in it, strawberry ice, and rum. It was so good. Andy got the bahamarita, which is mango, strawberry, and kiwi frozen margarita all layered on top of each other with a shot/floater of cactus juice schnapps. He said all of it was very tasty. I only tried the schapps but I can attest to how yummy it was. He also tried the pirate paradise. While it WAS very good, it was also a lot more of the sugary side of things so we didn't like it as much. Apart from that it did have a good flavor. Not sure what the point of having a reservation when it is not honored. We are at Bahama Breeze and three patron groups had reservations for 6:4p, 7:30p and 7:45p and they are still it close to being seated. My reservation is now 15 minutes late and I am certain it probably will not happen anytime soon or at all. The problem is they are seating people who are just asking for seating as they walk in and not honoring those that set reservations days in advance. I have to say... my food was still pretty great, save for a few things. I ordered the Tilapia and Shrimp Oscar. Everything was super tasty except the asparagus needed to be cooked a little longer. If it's stringy, it's not quite done. My was super stringy and chewy. My only other complaint food-wise, was that the 'Warm Spinach and Chips' was seriously bland. It tasted like nothing was added, but watery spinach and some cheese. Lastly, I'd comment about our hostess. She was definitely a high school girl with very little personality. She didn't respond when I told her how many were eating and then made eye contact with no one except my niece... who she knew from school... Why be a hostess if you have no communication skills? I still give it a 4 though, mainly because I did enjoy my meal, like, a lot! Just a few things I thought were rather off. I was not expecting for live music playing from a one man band. He played great music. I was enjoying the free entertainment more or less twenty minutes when my husband reminded me that we were there to eat for dinner. No server bothered to offer drinks. My husband was about to raise his hand up when the server "Cam" approached us and took the order. My husband told him that we were waiting for awhile. Cam went back to our table with his manager. She also apologized for our long wait and offered us free appetizer for the inconvenience. It took another 10-15 minutes for the appetizer platter ( Island Hopper Combo $19++) to be served. It's a combination of Jamaican flavored wings, onion rings, coconut shrimp and fritters. At first bite, I liked the taste of freshly cooked wings. I then realized it had too much coating of coarse herbs that even the sauce can't make the taste better. The same awkward taste goes with the onions, shrimp and fritters. I could have ordered pizza or burger elsewhere for $1 and enjoyed eating it. We ordered another combo of pulled pork, empanada, roasted chicken, greens, yellow rice and plantains. The empanada was busted open in the middle. It just show that the kitchen staff could've care more for presentation. The roasted chicken was cold and doesn't looked cooked the way I want it to be. The only thing that I enjoyed from this combo platter, are the banana plantain. For the restrooms, you have to walk all the way to the back, across the bar and kitchen. You climb a few steps up and find your way. For seniors and others, there is an elevator for your convenience. Overall, service and food that Friday night was unsatisfactory. Based on the total bill, the experience was not worth we paid for. There were a lot of customers walking back and forth. Lots of people talking, loud music and tv screens hanging wall to wall. This is not a venue for casual and relaxing dinner. Can't imagine what's it like to be there during lunch time. I'm laying off seafood for a bit and wanted to mix things up, so my friend and I decided on Bahama Breeze. I got super jazzed when I saw they had two of my absolute favorites - Jamaican jerk chicken and plantains - on the menu. It immediately made me nostalgic because plantains are the first thing I always go for whenever I land in Florida. I don't even like bananas that much, but plantains are an exception. I also make sure to hit a lot of Cuban restaurants. Since Cuban and Carribean food are cousins, it was Cloud 9 for me. We started with some mocktails - and the Pina Colada was better than the Bahamarita. The jerk chicken wasn't jerky enough, but it was juicy and tender, so points. A few plantains were overdone, but there were enough good ones to score again. Rice and black beans are standard accompaniments. My friend even got me to try one of her Mahi Mahi tacos, but the whole thing was a bit dry for me. It was still a happy day and I'm feeling generous, so 4 stars. read more

I'm certain that the Mahi-mahi was actually a piece of stick from the tree out front. So hard and dry that branch has been dead along time. The service was subpar at best! We went yesterday for Valentine's Day happy hour - love the vibe and the coconut shrimp, however when the bill came, we were informed they weren't honoring the happy hour prices. Thats why we went there. Our server asked management and they gave us only one of our three appetizers at 1/2 off?! The menu clearly says 1/2 off apps 4-6 Monday- Friday with a couple exclusions...
