Having visited the Troy location on multiple occasions over the years, most recently on Mother's Day, I have consistently had a disappointing experience. The food quality remains subpar relative to the premium pricing, with steaks frequently served overcooked. Beyond the poor execution in the kitchen, management's failure to enforce a basic dress code or standards of decorum significantly degrades the brand, reducing what should be an elevated fine-dining atmosphere to the feel of a casual Detroit sports bar. On my initial visit, a guest inside the dining room was permitted to wear a full sweatsuit, sunglasses, and a baseball cap. Upon leaving, I discovered discarded Hennessy liquor bottles left directly beside my vehicle's front bumper. Years later, on Mother's Day, the overall ambiance remained severely compromised. An adjacent table spent considerable time individually declining multiple credit cards for baked chicken dinners, while another patron seated directly at the bar wore sagging basketball shorts below his rear end leaving his exposed undergarments directly on the stool seating. My family was celebrating my mother's 85 birthday July 15, 2026. The evening did not begin well when a glass of red wine was spilled by a staff member drenching the guest of honor's suede handbag. The handbag was whisked away and drenched with what I am guessing was soda water. We had a group of 7 and all ordered steaks, this is a steak house after all. Of those 7, 6 steaks were cooked completely wrong. 1 steak was ordered "medium plus", and that steak was served Pittsburg rare. The other 5 streaks were ordered medium rare and were served medium well to well. The steaks were dry and tasteless. The manager, Bradley, came over to our table toward the end of the meal and told him the issue with the steaks and pointed to my son-in-laws well done NY Strip steak that he was trying to get down. He said that my son-in-laws steak could be sent back. I told him, and my son in law agreed, that most of the table was finished and we did not want to send back his steak after we had finished eating and upset my 85 year old mother any more than she was after the incident with the wine. 6 of the 7 diners did not enjoy their steaks that were prepared to the wrong temperature--Inexcusable for a steak house of this reputation for 6 or 7 steaks to be cooked improperly. If Bradley would have inquired if the steaks were prepared to the correct temperature shortly after they had been served, we would have been able to notify him discretely that there were issues. Bradley asked what he could do to make things right, I told him that my family has been celebrating milestones--birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, promotions, etc for many years with Ruth's Chris and I felt given the meal was so unsatisfactory from start to finish, that it should be comped. I was told that absolutely was not going to happen. The bill was presented with no charge for a few glasses of wine and one cocktail and no charge for an upsized dessert for the birthday girl. Considering my family's long loyalty to Ruth's Chris I fell this situation could have been handled better and I contacted Dan Cole the General Manager for RC. Dan apologized and offered to send a gift card to be given to my parents for a future visit. That written conversation was on July 18, 2026. Today is August 19, 2026 and no gift card. Rarely does a restaurant give me the complete urge to want to return soon. Even more rare the urge to bring someone close along with me as a testament to my opinion in the experience. Yelp gets it right when it auto-lists food, service; and ambiance as the three pillars of the dining experience. If one falters the whole thing is off. I have visited Ruth's Chris three times in 2025 with three equal and impressive experiences in the three pillars. Ambiance. This location is a classic steakhouse dining experience. Upscale feeling without exclusion. Lighting just enough to keep you, your party, and your food in focus. Music in the background but just enough to provide energy without ever forcing its way into your face. Comfortable and consistent seating areas that provide a pleasant aesthetic experience. Service. Professionally dressed, attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable servicing staff. No more needs to be said. Food. Each time I have had the filet and each time it has been absolutely perfect. We have been consistently thrilled with both the service and the experience every single time. We always request Amy D., and without fail, she has taken exceptional care of us throughout all these years. I am genuinely puzzled as to why this location's rating is below a four-star average. Unfortunately, it appears that most--if not all--of the negative reviews stem from self-entitled, rude, and disrespectful customers. I say this with confidence, as I travel extensively for work and have witnessed firsthand the alarming level of disrespect many customers show toward those in the food-service industry. Ruth's Chris delivers first-class service, exceptional food, and an outstanding overall dining experience. Yes, there is a dress code--as there should be--though I've even noticed that it is not strictly enforced. To anyone complaining about this in their reviews: you have either never worked in food service or fail to understand that many establishments still operate under the outdated notion that "the customer is always right." As someone who does not work in the food-service industry, I can unapologetically say that many customers are, in fact, not "right"--but instead out of touch, discourteous, and lacking basic respect. Oddly the front desk area is very tight but friendly. The seating area is wide open. They have valet too. A little pricey compared to many steak establishments but worth the money. You get what you pay for. My steak was cooked medium and served on a 500F HOT plate and sizzling. No issues. Was expecting more for a $75 steak meal or better. Really wanted the PORTERHOUSE FOR TWO. I know the meat is considered the best in the country. "They use USDA Prime cuts of beef, which is considered the best quality in the United States". I had the New York bone-in steak(Ruth's favorite). My wife had the surf and turf (with two Jumbo lobster tail). Bread and butter were soft, good and perfect. All were delicious. I loved the crab cakes(served on 500F plate). Excellent. It was a dinning experience. Good staff. Quiet atmosphere. A welcome restaurant. A mix of guest. Easy reservation process thru Open Table. We were promptly seated despite being a few minutes later, thank you. We were celebrating two couples with two separate anniversaries. What better way with Besties and delicious food. Our server(Elizabeth?) was exceptionally pleasant and offered a few choices and got our drinks started. Two Expresso Martinis for the ladies, a 9oz pour of Daou Cabernet for myself and whiskey for my buddy. The ladies did the Petite Filet with mashed potatoes and asparagus ala carte style. My buddy had the Lamb Chops the Lobster Bisque. I choice the 11oz Filter and the same Lobster Bisque. Plus, the Cream Spinach, one of my favorites. Ruth's Chris Steak House Corporate Headquarters Corporate President, Dear Ruth's Chris Headquarters, I am writing to formally express my serious concerns regarding one of your managers, Dan Cole. This letter is long overdue, as my experiences with Mr. Cole have led me to refrain from visiting your establishment for several years. I have been a patron of Ruth's Chris since 2007, and it is disheartening to address these issues. Over the years, I have noticed that Mr. Cole exhibits extremely moody behavior. He has made derogatory comments about people of color, which are particularly troubling given his personal relationship with an African American partner. He has openly discussed sexual encounters with his partner and made inappropriate remarks about his partner using him for money. This pattern of conversation has left me feeling uncomfortable and disrespected. Consequently, I chose to stop dining at your restaurant. On December 24, while dining with family and friends, my daughter stood up to let another guest sit down. Once that guest finished eating, another chair became available, and my daughter attempted to sit down. Mr. Cole approached her, pointing his finger and yelling that she could not sit there. There were certainly more professional ways to handle the situation, and his disrespectful behavior towards her was completely unwarranted. When I intervened to ask him to treat my daughter with respect, he threatened to call the police and loudly called out my name in front of other patrons. Many guests were appalled by his conduct. Upon the arrival of the police, Mr. Cole misrepresented the situation, claiming that I was the one who had been yelling at him. I encourage you to review the restaurant's security footage from that day, which will clearly show his aggressive behavior. Additionally, after we left, another patron contacted me and informed me that Mr. Cole had misled the police, suggesting that we had been intoxicated. This incident is indicative of a deeper issue in how Mr. Cole represents your brand. I believe Mr. Cole should undergo training on professional conduct and respect in customer service, as his actions reflect poorly on your establishment. In fact, I have video footage of our conversations that illustrate his inappropriate behavior, which I am prepared to share if necessary. I'm asking you guys to play the cameras back on December 24 from about 5:30 PM until the time we left the bar so that you can see for yourself the actions of your manager. It's a more upscale environment, but not too intimidating if you're not used to dressing nicer. They're very welcoming. NY strip with grilled shrimp- The butter comes out sizzling on this plate so don't dig in too fast! I thought the grilled shrimp, while large and impressive looking, didn't add much to the meal. I would just get the steak by itself. The steak itself was cooked perfectly and had a nice crust. Creamed spinach- OK so this is what you get to convince yourself that you're eating healthy for this meal. Decadant and rich, but also green so you know this is a balanced meal. This was seasoned perfectly and now I know why there's a million copy-cat recipes on the internet. Garlic mashed potatoes- There's nothing special about this, maybe a little light on the garlic flavor. It's hard to make mashed potatoes amazing, but very easy to mess up, so hats off! Just an update. I was contacted by Ruth's Chris customer service. They asked for my contact info and any additional information I wanted to share about my horrific experience at their restaurant. I provided everything they asked. Two days later I got a message from Dan identifying himself as the general manager of the Troy location. I called the number back; asked to speak with Dan, waited on hold only to be told Dan had left for the day. I asked that Dan return my call and left my contact information. Five days later, I still have not received my call back. Clearly if the General Manager doesn't care about his customers, neither will his employees. Stay away from Ruth's Chris in Troy Michigan. This is a 4.5 out of 5. The food was great. We both had a filet and they were amazing. The Brussels sprouts were fantastic. The garlic mashed potatoes weee a touch too thin and I didn't notice any garlic, but good. The service- our waiter was attentive without driving us crazy. I do think an establishment of this caliber should train all its staff on proper wine bottle opening, pouring and handling. He struggled to open the bottle and brought an ice bucket for our red blend, no thank you. It did not detract from our experience, but there are some J-hole snobs that would take issue. Ambience - the booths are looking pretty tired and need some love. The edges have warn off and need improvement. But the space in total was lovely. The oddity - the bathroom experience. They were clean they were fine. But as we left we stepped into the facilities and each found them packed and barely navigable but the stalls were all open. Both facilities were filled with young people snapping pics with their fanned $100 bills or stuffing $100 bills into their dress. It was STRANGE. My family and I decided to have Thanksgiving dinner at Ruth's Chris this year instead of cooking at home. We have dined here previously, but not on a holiday. The restaurant had a welcoming and festive atmosphere. We had a wonderful server who was both friendly and had a great sense of humor. The Thanksgiving meal option consisted of a salad choice, roasted turkey with cranberry sauce, a side (sweet potato casserole, creamed spinach, or green beans), and pumpkin cheese cake for dessert. However, most of us opted for more traditional Ruth's Chris offerings. We started with my favorite appetizer: veal Osso bucco ravioli! My petit filet arrived on a sizzling plate and was perfectly cooked. The shrimp and filet entree was also delicious and an ample portion. The drink was not worth the price $16 for that little couple for an average margarita. The cheesecake wasn't bad a typical cheesecake. My favorite dish was the steak prepared medium it was sheered perfectly with these amazing flavors. The garlic mashed potatoes were creamy soft and very very good. The stuffed chicken breast was also good. No complaints with the made dishes. We all know Ruth Chris is extremely expensive everything is a la carte the entrees do not come with sides. After hearing EBS talk about going to the Ann Arbor location, I finally decided to join the dinner planned here by another Meetup organizer. I had passed a couple other times since I don't have money to burn ‍. Plus I needed a place to dress up in my more formal Barbie skirt and Marc Jacobs wingtips. The service is excellent as you expect from driving up to the door for valet, to going to the table, the pacing of the meal, and even having your car brought up before you get back to the door. But what was a disappointment to me was the food, not that special. The bread was a little stale and the butter nothing special. The Caesar salad was larger than most but I have better. Not even in my top 10. The shrimp were large but nothing special. The steak could be cut with a butter knife even warmed up the next day but I had better at half the price. Asparagus was thinner and it did also warm up well the next day but not worth the upgrade from the 2 sides listed on their 3 course special menu. What was great was the chocolate sin flourless cake and worth the upgrade from the chef special cheesecake. One of our dining companions even sent one of her steaks back and got a better tasting one. Even with the special priced 3 course menu with two $5 upgrades and only a diet coke, my Bill was over $95. I tipped the valet $10 since I know they depend on our tips. Glad I tried this place finally. But I will not burn money again. If I want a good steak, I will got to Knights or Weber's. read more

Most recently we went last week to enjoy a Prisoner Wine Company selection with some well paired dishes. The wine selection is always very good. The service and staff has also been friendly every time we've gone. To top it off, I think the price is very reasonable for what you're getting. Last minute change of plans for Thanksgiving night. We were able to make reservations and get a thanksgiving meal. This restaurant opened in 1996, but I had never been here. Located just off a major highway, it's easy to get to. Parking is plentiful and valet is complimentary. We arrived on time and were seated immediately. Shout out to all the staff working this holiday. There were tons of servers. Our server, Christine was lovely. She was so friendly, informative, and thoughtful. We had one person in our party who wanted the pre-fixe turkey dinner and then two vegans. I didn't have high hopes for a vegan meal here. I ordered the steak house salad with vinaigrette and the other vegan had the chef make a pasta dish with veggies and olive oil. It looked nice. The traditional thanksgiving meal was good according to the omnivore. My salad was fine. Nice to know you can get something if you're vegan and in a pinch. I asked for a warm hand tile when the waitress brought it out she my friend did not immediately recognize what she was doing . The place has no driveway in from the main road so heads up. The outside coming in is clean and in a good area. The inside reminds me of ballroom dining and had the half wall, half up for some reason. The service was spectacular!
