Came to Bahn Thai because apparently the Thai food in Fairbanks is actually pretty legit for some reason. Had to try it right? Ordered the Halibut Egg Rolls, Panang Curry with Halibut (which is not a normal menu item), Chu Chee Pla with Salmon, and Pad See Ew with Beef (which I have to order at every Thai restaurant I go to). I must say, this was up there with some of the best Thai food I've ever had. Not everything you see halibut in egg rolls, but I had to get it. the panang curry was up there with some of the best panang curry I've ever had, and it came with a fairly hefty portion of halibut. Chu chee pla was good, although it tasted a bit similar to the panang curry. Pad see ew was very good, and it was quite a huge portion as well. Staff here were very friendly despite being extremely slammed. There were only two people taking care of the entire restaurant and one cook in the back. Despite all that, the food came out at a fairly reasonable pace. Much kudos to them for working so hard. Really enjoyed my trip to Bahn Thai. We had a late lunch here - apparently it's the 2nd oldest Thai restaurant in Fairbanks. The decor is very extravagant. We got the halibut egg rolls, which was freshly fried and a bit more refreshing than a regular one because of the halibut. The ginger fish dish comes with either halibut or salmon. We opted for salmon and it was overcooked but the ginger sauce was very good. Once we broke down the salmon to soak up the sauce, it was tastier to eat. There were 4 small pieces. We also appreciated the loads of vegetables that come with this dish - strange how much we appreciate veggies in AK. We wonder if the traditional Thai dishes are the way to go here, but our meal was still good. read more

Came by for lunch on Sunday. I called ahead to order a pickup. The place is in the downtown Fairbanks area, but it was not hard at all to find street parking. The entrance is obvious inside a shared door, and a really ornate seating area. The place seemed a bit understaffed so it took a while for someone to come over and help us out or to seat people, but when I was helped, I was immediately charged and given my food, along with the option for utensils. We were visiting Fairbanks and after a day of sightseeing we were really looking forward to having Thai food. Upon entering the restaurant, I was impressed with the ambiance. The food here was so delicious! We brought a bottle of wine to pair with the food and started with the Crab Rangoon. A very strange location for a Thai restaurant but the food was pretty good, especially for Fairbanks standards. I had the Tom Kha soup on a very cold day and it was the perfect way to warm up. Would have preferred it had some additional veggies (like tomatoes) in it other than just mushrooms and onions, but the broth was pretty good and the chicken was hearty. Service was quick and attentive. Best Thai food I have had since I left Chiang Mai Thailand. Very good, Very authentic. Excellent customer service, The staff is very friendly and the restaurant is clean. Great prices. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this place earned it. The food might be decent, but the customer experience was honestly shocking. The owner was unbelievably rude -- not just having a bad day, but outright dismissive and arrogant. Any time we asked a simple question, the attitude was immediate. It felt like we were inconveniencing them just by being there. Restaurants survive on hospitality, and this place had none. We visited Bahn Thai in Fairbanks twice during our trip and had shockingly rude interactions both times. First visit: We were told the restaurant closes at 4 PM. We assumed, as is normal, that the kitchen closes at that time but guests still finish eating. We ordered a full meal for four, were served everything, then told we needed to leave in five minutes. It is unreasonable to serve that much food and expect customers to finish instantly. Instead of warning us before taking the order, they served it and rushed us out. We had to pack everything in to-go boxes. Second visit: We returned because of limited food options in the area, but the attitude was even worse. The female server avoided eye contact, and the male server spoke down to us. When we politely asked for a condiment refill, his response was "finish it first." When we told him this was not an appropriate way to speak to customers, he replied: "I don't give a shit." At checkout, because of the repeated disrespect, we left a 0 tip, and he told us: "Don't come back next time." No customer should ever be spoken to this way, especially visitors who traveled here to enjoy the local food and experience. Easily the most disrespectful service we've encountered during our entire trip. read more

Lunch at the Bahn Thai restaurant with a small family group was excellent. The interior is well decorated and the service was fast and friendly. We had a variety of Thai dishes that were all excellent. Each were good portions, well prepared and seasoned. I had my usual Tom Yum Seafood Soup Thai hot. It had large portions of shrimp and vegetables in a tasty broth that was seasoned perfectly and just the right amount of hot. The others had a variety of dishes and everyone said that they were very delicious and well prepared. They have seating for many diners and would be good for families and groups. I highly recommend this restaurant for excellent Thai cuisine that will not disappoint you at reasonable prices. read more

Convenient Thai food in a beautifully decorated space in downtown Fairbanks. Spring rolls are a bit dainty but very good, and the pad pla dook (spicy catfish) was solid. The egg rolls were great! They claim to be the best you've ever had and they aren't far off. The only thing I would change would be to have a pork option. The chicken wasn't bad, but I do love some pork egg rolls. You also get 5 full egg rolls split into 10, for $10. It's not bad given the taste and amount. The pad Thai was delicious, but it absolutely needed more spice. Otherwise, it was something I would order again. Service was incredible and the restaurant itself was nice and clean and well spaced. came here with my cousin while visiting him in fairbanks a little hard to find parking (only street parking available; unfortunately got two parking tickets since we were a little over the line & "near" a fire hydrant- they're very quick patrolling so don't risk it) the decor inside is nice and the staff are very sweet & friendly despite being short staffed bathroom is outside the restaurant and need a key but not too bothersome the appetizers came out pretty quickly along with the drinks (thai tea) but the main food did take awhile to be prepared the spring rolls, curry puffs and the calamari were pretty good! the entrees were a bit small but it could've been a lunch menu (the soup & curry). the padseeew was good at first but too salty where it lingered. the fried rice was just ok. i feel as though for the price, the food was just ok compared to other restaurants i've been to (i'm from newyork/newjersey) but i'm guessing for alaska standards there may not be much thai places around? so if that's the case i would say definitely try this place out !! i love thai food and this place wasn't too shabby! read more

This place has one of the best customer service in Fairbanks hands down! We arrived at 8:50pm and they close at 9 but still let the 4 of us sit and dine in. We placed the order before we arrived though. A Thai restaurant nearby that closes at 9 had their door locked at 8:30pm itself! Weird.. parking can be challenging on the roadside so you might have to look around a bit before you get lucky. The ambiance was traditional and warm. Actually very beautiful. The panang curry with tofu I ordered was rich in flavour and I got a side of brown rice with it instead of regular jasmine as they ran out of it. The Thai green tea was something new and I really really loved it. Something I insist you try. My husband ordered the chicken panang curry, friends ordered pad Thai tofu and pineapple fried rice with tofu and I tasted all of it and everything was top notch. Struggling to find a place to eat in downtown fairbanks we found Bahn Thai. As we walked in it was typical looking decor with an Asian flare. As we were seated we were not welcomed but instead told "we close soon... order fast". Now if there was any other place to eat we would have left but we were hungry. We ordered fast and received are food in record speed. I had the Drunken Noodles at top spice level. The heat was good, the veggies were cooked perfectly, but the shrimp and calamari were booth way overcooked. Dana had the Pork Rad Na. The pork was dry, the gravy salty (both were clearly end of the day product), but once again, the veggies were perfect. The atmosphere was ok until they started closing around us, and the even vacuumed underneath us as we were eating. After many stares and yelling from the kitchen, there were obvious signs that we needed to leave, we paid our bill and left. In our future visits to downtown Fairbanks, we did not give them another shot. The service ruined everything. Sadly, my guess is that normally they are pretty good. The portions were huge and the product was decent quality but it tasted like they trough everything in at the same time and cooked until the vegetables were done. The food was good, the setting and atmosphere were fantastic, but the staff and service are what really made this place outstanding. Our meal here was the highlight of all the meals we had here, including in comparison to Latitude 65 (overpriced, under-delivered) and the restaurant at Chena Hot Springs (food quality was meh). Our family of 13 visited from SF, and we were craving Asian food after eating only American food for the past couple days --but I promise that's not a bias factor. This was actually my "back up" restaurant; my first option was closed and this place was also close to downtown. So I didn't know what to expect coming in. Well, I walk in and the place is amazingly decorated. Whoever owns this place clearly put a ton of thought, time, and effort to make their guests feel welcome. I went ahead of the group in case there was a wait and asked for seating for 8 pple. Our server quickly got the menus placed and water poured for ALL the guests even before they had walked in. But to my surprise, a couple more family members had decided to tag along than I expected so I awkwardly had to ask for us to be moved to a bigger table. I totally expected the server to be at least a little annoyed (she had just poured 8 water glasses and laid out 8 menus!), but she was so so nice and understanding. She even chatted us up and we learned she is Thai-Chinese! We got settled and picked out a bunch of dishes. Everything was delicious and flavorful, esp the crab rangoon appetizer that she recommended. Their dishes do favor the sweeter side, esp their drinks. But I have a sweet tooth so it was perfect for me. I wish I could come back again but we're back in SF at this point. I would've loved to chat further with our lovely servers who were the absolutely best and learn more about them and how they came to Alaska.
