In the namesake city of Memphis Style Barbecue, Bain BBQ is serving up Texas Style Barbecue playing that away game every day. The couple times I've been to Memphis and the google searches, I think they are the ONLY Texas Style in the surrounding area. And they are killing it. I went back two days. Mainly because I forgot to take a picture yesterday lol. The brisket was moist and a nice smokey flavor on the bark. Yesterday I got some of the point but today I went for the flat because I wanted to try a little bit of both. And the lie is definitely as moist as the fatty parts. The turkey was wonderfully moist bathing in butter with a peppery exterior. The Texas Twinkie had a perfect jalapeño with the right amount of heat. Wrapped in a nicely rendered slice of bacon. On the note of the jalapeño, the jalapeño lime slaw was delicious. The heat was perfect (for me) that I have no worries about a painful . . . later . . . anyways. I love this slaw. The baked beans with little rib trimming inside was a perfect pair with both of these jalapeño dishes with a little bit of sweetness. Of course the ribs were delicious. They have to be in this competitive Memphis market. Roughly 4 years ago I went around and ate at various places in this city, and I'm pretty sure I'd still end up at Bain. Oh! Dont forget dessert. I got the blueberry lemon cheesecake AFTER finishing all the food. I polished that off too. The creamy and acidic cheesecake mixed together with bursts of sweetness every time I bite into a pop of blueberry. Makes me drool just thinking about it again. Driving off I'm thinking I should have gotten the other Oreo cheese cake too . . . maybe the next time I'm in Memphis. read more

Stopped by while in Memphis for a work trip and I was in DESPERATE need for some good bbq. I ordered one of everything they had on the menu and it did not disappoint. I was so hoping this would be good. I hear so many good things about it so I had my fingers crossed. I went about 2:00 on a Friday. Service was great. We were quickly greeted and order taken. We ordered the mini trinity. It comes with brisket, 3 rib bones, sausage and 2 sides. Ok, this is what I got. Barely lukewarm food, dry brisket, over cooked and very dry ribs, dry sausage, unseasoned Mac & cheese and beans that I really can't describe. I was tremendously disappointed. This platter is $30 so this was an expensive experiment. Perhaps when first cooked the meat was great. But this was obviously sitting in a warmer for many hours. I have heard a lot of great things so I will give them one (and only one) more chance. They have burgers, nachos and other sandwiches that I will try. read more

I am thoroughly disappointed being a native Texan, and now transplant Memphian, this reminds me nothing of home. 1. 4 oz of brisket should not be $20 2. The sides are small as hell 3. The pulled chicken tastes like they pulled it straight from the chicken and never even touched the grill 4. The smoked fried wings taste like a pack of frozen precooked Tyson wings from CashSaver. Didn't taste smoke at all. The rub had too much sugar that overpowered any spice they had on the wings 5.they have all that wood in the back porch and I never tasted a hint of it in my food. They must use it in the fireplace to warm the building up. They should call it Bains Indiana flavor bbq instead of Texas. read more

First time experiencing this business. This was an enjoyable experience. Great location, very lively! Food: the chopped beef bbq sandwich is tender, juicy and just delicious. Loved their twist on the bbq sandwich with pickles and onion slices on the side compliments well. This meal packs a big punch and well worth the $20. The sides are true adult sizes and I really appreciate this! Their brisket beans boasts shredded beef pieces while the potato salad has nice bits & pieces of meat, this is definitely homemade and some of the best around town. Simply delicious. They were upselling us hard on the sausage with cheese, but it turns out that was the worst thing we had. The meat was not dry. Moist tender the only thing I was disappointed in I did not taste any smoked flavor. I figured if you have to smoke a brisket over eight hours you at least would taste a hint of smoke. Excellent Texas style BBQ. It's pricey but if this is your style it is legit. The parking is awkward so you may have to park on the street.

We were in the area and wanted to try this out. Parking is in the back but very limited. We came at the right time and got a spot during lunch time. Walking to the back door, the workers in the back are yelling "Welcome" as you walk in. I love how it's like a "homey" atmosphere. Tables are in the different rooms and you order first then sit yourself. It was our first time and the girls up front were really helpful and answering our questions. We got the mini trio which consisted of a piece of brisket, ribs, and pulled pork. For our sides we got the potato salad and Mac n cheese. All meats were flavorful and tender. I could eat them without the sauces which I mixed the mustard and sweet together and they were bomb. The Mac n cheese was my favorite side as the cheese had the right amount of sharpness which I like. The potato salad is a great choice too just the Mac was better to me. Simply delicious Texas style BBQ at Bain's! Bain's sticks out from most spots in Memphis by focusing on Texas style BBQ and they are doing things right here! It was moist and flavorful, and the bark on it was so good and it melted in my mouth as quality brisket should! The portion size was also great value for the price. The service here was excellent with the staff being very welcoming and friendly and I loved how the restaurant was a renovated and restored home. Only in for a periodical visit to Memphis for a couple of days. I've always heard Memphis had the best barbecue. This place actually proved this to be 100% true. A lot of reviews were leading me towards Corky's, but I've had it before in another state and it was just mediocre in my opinion. My gut kept telling me to take a chance on this place. Best food decision I have made in a long while. When I was contemplating my order the owner let me sample quite a few items. Literally every single thing I tried was beyond amazing. Even the turkey was off the charts. Turkey! We wound up splitting The Bubba and an order of nachos. If I didn't have a shred of self control or dignity, I would have gorged myself like Kevin Spacey did that dude in the movie Se7en. Go here immediately! I can't stress this enough. This has become a regular spot for me and I love it so much. Everything I've tried has been fantastic. Heather has greeted me each time upon entering with the most warm welcome. She has an amazing personality and makes you excited to try the food. She also loves to pass a sample over if they've got something special going that day. Brisket is amazing. It's TX-style and it's just as it should be with a great smoke ring and juicy cuts. It melts in your mouth. The burnt ends are in a bit of a sweet sauce that hits the spot. Texas twinkies are cream cheese stuffed jalapeños smoked and wrapped in bacon. I don't know where they are sourcing their jalapeños but they're huge! Bacon was perfection. The turkey is moist and a great option if you want something on the lighter side. Slaw is fresh and hasn't just been sitting in a mayonnaise bath forever. It gives slaw a good name. The potato salad comes in a heaping portion. Big chunks of potato and a really good seasoning on it. My mouth is watering from writing this review, so I might have to head back to Bain's now. read more

First up, food was very very good. The brisket was tender and melt in your mouth. The flavor is all there. Light smoke taste. Good bark. The pickles were a surprisingly nice touch and seemed house made. The beans were a star for me. And that turkey just might be one of the best bites I've had. The nachos were no frills but hit all the right notes. One minor critique - felt a little under seasoned (salt) across the board, but every bite was still delicious. Made a visit during a rainstorm. Tried the mac-n-cheese, the jalapeño slaw, the greens w/pork, the pulled pork 6 Oz sandwich, and the basket 'O fries. The mac-n-cheese and the jalapeño slaw were both unique and excellent. The greens were ok, but bland, needed more seasoning. The pulled pork sandwich was very good, well seasoned and excellent smokey flavor. Tried each of the Texas-style sauces. All sauces were delicious! They were Sweet, Mustard, and Hot. Each sauce was tangy and full of flavor,but alas, they were watery thin. I prefer my sauce to have body and some texture. Finally, the fries were hand-cut and cooked just right, crispy outside and soft in the middle. I grew up in Texas and I fully intend to return to Bain's to try their brisket and other sides, and especially their banana pudding. Overall, I give this visit 4 stars and look forward to a return engagement and the possibility of raising the score. read more
