Great local auto upholstery shop. I have had two projects done here. One was a seat foam replacement for my 4Runner and another was wrapping my lower dash and glove box in Alcantara. I'm only doing this review and giving this rating because of the disappointment I had with this place. I actually didn't get my car serviced here because of the lack of communication. I literally came to this place roughly 5 times back and forth. Usually with a business you get a quote they tell you what the problem is THEY buy the parts and supply the labor you pay and on your way. but I had to purchase the parts only to be told I needed another part and I allowed them to hold on to the parts I purchased. I waited for two weeks never got a call back one day popped up to see service being done on other cars. I get upset because you try to support local businesses and get treated like crap and I don't appreciate it. maybe because I didn't drive a top of the line car so I couldn't get the best service very disappointed so now I have to shop around. I take my car to Francesco all the time. He has installed convertible tops and always does a great job. Recently I took my 1986 Mercedes-Benz 560 SL to have heated seats installed. It is a difficult job and requires many parts but he was able to put it all together perfectly. I also had him replace the wood on my dashboard and do some repairs on the exterior of my car. The rear window on my VW came unglued from the top. I found Baja online and stopped by to ask for advice. Francisco correctly advised me that any repair he could do would be temporary and would not work in the long term. He was able to locate a new replacement top for me at his local supplier (which ships worldwide), picked up that very day. The next day I left the car with him in the morning and by the end of the day it was ready for pickup. Francisco is a most exacting craftsman, and did a perfect job. While in his shop I saw a Mercedes leather seat which he was reupholstering, having made his own pattern from the original, replaced the padding, and then sewed a replacement seat from leather which he had sent out to be custom textured to match the original perfectly. His work is superb, and he is an under appreciated treasure. I have been in the furniture business for years, and have rarely met anyone with his talent and skills. read more

I read the reviews and felt confident that Baja Auto Upholstery would be a good place to do business. Big mistake. I had a tear in the bottom portion of the driver's seat on my Ford F-150. The owner looked at the seat and gave me a price of $150 to re-upholster and beef up the foam on the left side. We looked in a sample book to find just the right match, and there it was - a sample of the same exact fabric. He asked for a deposit of $50 to order the fabric. Later in the week, I left the truck so he could do the work. When I came to pick it up, the seat was done, with a similar, but different fabric! Not at all what I ordered. Turns out he took a seat bottom from another truck, and hoped that I would not notice the different pattern. When I asked him what happened, he played dumb for a minute, and then shrugged, and said he would order the fabric and call me when it came in. It's been a month and he hasn't called. So, to review, he charged me $$$ to order the fabric, but never ordered it. Took a used seat that he either had or obtained, with a different fabric, and tried to pass it off as the correct material. When I immediately noticed it was not the same, he played dumb, then owned up to it, offering to make good, but never intending to. You would do well to avoid this place. He knew exactly what he was doing. This is not a reputable place. A good shop would never do what Baja did. read more

We took our 2006 VW Beetle to a salvage guy in the valley to get a used convertible top thinking we would save money. The top he was trying to sell us for $1000 was from a wrecked 2004 Beetle. He had the car 4 days and told us the top wouldn't work cause it had a bent frame. We went to the VW dealer only to find out a brand new top would be over $4000!!! I started searching YELP for the answer and found Baja. I took the car in and they ordered a new top in the exact color. When the top arrived we dropped off the car at 8am and it was finished by 3pm THE SAME DAY! I thought Francisco quoted me $1700 but when I looked at the total it was only $1500!!!! We now have a 2016 brand new top for only &500 more then the other guy wanted to sell us a used 12 year old top!!! I feel like I won the lottery. We also had a problem with the seat in our Porsche which Francisco fixed immediately and didn't even charge us! Fast, great service and quality materials. read more

I took my Range Rover to Baja Auto Upholstery for a leaking sunroof. When I arrived I was greeted by Francisco who patiently walked me through what needed to be done to stop the leak. I was given an estimate on cost and a time frame to complete the work which was 4 days. To my surprise, Francisco called me and said my car would be ready in 3 days and that the price for the work was well below the estimate!!! It is so rare to find a person who is this honest and also does great work. When I arrived to pick up the car, everything was exactly as promised. In my case I needed a new headliner installed after the leak was repaired. The work was really beautiful and the amount of money I saved by not going to a Range Rover dealer for this repair was incredible. I should also mention that the work came with a 1 year guarantee. Nice people over there. Dealt with a guy named Francisco. They installed my top and the outer window goes over the top. They wouldn't adjust it for me blaming the manufacture. I had manufacture reps come out to inspect. I had another Upholstery company look at it. The manufacture reps from Acme tops and the second upholstery company concluded it was installed incorrectly. I wouldn't waste my time with this place. Not sure about the quality of service - but dealt with a person by the name of Francisco and his demeanor was somewhat rude and apathetic. First he told me to go to my BMW dealer to get quotes on parts to replace leather seats from BMW and he would provide me a complete quote to get full service done. But after I did that and came back to him for his complete quote he said just to submit the parts only quote to my insurance. When I told him that my insurance told me to get a complete quote he still refused to do so and said it didn't matter. I told him that I would show him the insurance letter stating so but he turned away and continued with his work and said it didn't matter. I'm surprised this little shop doesn't have dozens of positive reviews already. With the rainy season coming up I knew it was time to replace the leaky old top on my leaky old alfa. I shopped around and got quotes ranging from $800-1100 for a stayfast canvas top including installation. Finally I had the brilliant idea to ask my Alfa mechanic who to go to and he recommended Baja as he's seen many good and bad install jobs and Baja's "always look really good". So yesterday I took it to Francisco at Baja. I was happy to see a very nice 1960 Alfa there being fitted for a top along with a newer Porsche. Clearly others have heard about this place. And now I know what a properly fitted top looks like! It's tight and taut yet goes up and down with ease. No gaps, no creases. If only the rest of my car looked as good as this top! A "top notch" job (and for under $800!) Plus, he made 2 leather clasp straps since I was missing one at no charge and he also pointed out that my wobbly seats needed to be secured better as several bolts had loosened or gone missing after 20+ years of service. I have been doing business with Francisco at Baja Auto Upholstery for over 15 years. He was recommended by the folks at BMW of Beverly Hills. I will never go anywhere else! The guy is as honest and skilled as they come. I have a small car collection and he has done everything from a top replacement,leather repair and electrical work on my seat. His knowledge of all types of vehicles is amazing. The first time I met him, he did a minor adjustment on my broken seatbelt and didn't charge me a thing. Stuff like that goes a long way with me. In reading the poor review by T-Rex, I have to wonder if he purchased his top from Baja Upholstery or off the internet. If you like cheap, don't expect quality material. There is always 2 sides to a story. The fact that they have been in the same spot for 20+ years says a lot.
