Ordered 3 meals online for pickup, one of which was the 4 oz Charbroiled Fish Salad. Item is supposed to include avocado slices, but when I returned home, there was no avocado included. Guess that is really cutting corners to save money. Additionally, I arrived when food was ready for pickup. I waited an additional 25 minutes before I had to ask for a 3rd time if my order was ready. Been eating here for years (both MV and Lake forest locations). The food is hit and miss....sometimes the fish is dry and somehow they always screw up the phone orders! Service is 50/50....and if they're busy, don't get your hopes up! They can be sometimes rude, especially at the LF location. This place is always busy...you'd think they'd get used to it by now. Great spot for those nights when you know you shouldn't get takeout but you do it anyway. The food here tastes very clean and fresh. With that said, if you're in the mood for a heavier, late night munchie type of taco, this isn't it. We ordered one blackened chicken taco, one blackened chicken burrito, and one blackened fish taco for $25. Great guilt free meal and quick service! They have a good salsa bar with multiple options and some items that you don't always see like sliced onion with vinegar and seasoning. First time visiting Baja Fish Tacos, always see it when I would go to Sprouts. Its located in the busy shopping center off SM Parkway and Los Alisos. Lots of parking available and the restaurant is way bigger than it looks from the outside! Great patio area, we sat there. Ordered our food and then grabbed some salsa and toppings from the salsa bar. I like the options: cilantro, pickled onions, chiles, salsa, etc. That was actually better than the meal, ugh. Also bought a couple of beers, they don't have wine though. Ensenada style tacos were just ok. On the dry side, where is the flavor?? And the piece of fish inside was very small. Had to order extra white sauce to flavor it up. Do not recommend these, especially for over $5 a piece!!! My mom got the papa tacos plate, that's only $10 and comes with 3 tacos plus guac, that's probably the best deal. She enjoyed those. I have tried Baja Fish Tacos multiple times already and every time I am left disappointed. The food is just high-priced mediocre Americanized Mexican food at best. The fish burrito so bland and dry you need lots of sauce to get any flavor from it. The steak burrito so salty and tough that I dont finish it. Honestly Chipotle has way better steak burritos at half the price 100%. Places like these remind me how good authentic Mexican restaurants are lacking in area. read more

Usually Baja Fish is a decent place to eat a casual low key taco meal. Tonight was a very different experience - will go to Lupe's versus here again. Way better quality. I ordered four taco meals a for takeout via the website. $65. I always swap out beans and rice for salad given my allergies - and I get the cheese removed from the tacos. The salad didn't allow me to remove cheese or add any comments. I went in to pick up my order and hadn't said anything - wasn't going to. After all it's how I ordered my food. The woman who I'm pretty sure was the manager since she had a black shirt on (around 6pm Monday 7/28) went through my order and said the tacos have no cheese but the salad does. I said the website didn't give me an option to remove. Wasn't upset - totally friendly to her. I was fine with my order. She said do you want us to remake it? Since that was a nice gesture I said sure if they will. She said well they will have to throw away your salad - and I said I wouldn't be able to eat it since it has dairy anyway. So she looked irritated but asked them to remake it. FIRST OF ALL - you offered - I never asked nor expected it. Then you get mad when I accept your offer? SMH. So after she put the new salad in the bag she tells me very snootily "next time ask for no cheese." I said I would have but didn't see an option and I looked. She said "yes you can, people do it all the time" while shaking her head up and down with an attitude like I'm making it up. Usually I would ignore that petty type of response but she kept repeating it. So I simulated an order right there and then on my phone and walked a girl through it, requesting to know where can I add my comments - she kept saying oh it's at checkout - so I checkout and OH MY GOODNESS - NO OPTION TO BE FOUND. So I show her and say go ahead scroll - and she realized I knew what I was talking about - no option. Why offer and then throw a fit - it's literally a cup full of lettuce that was replaced. VERY RUDE AND PETTY SERVICE FOR NO GOOD REASON. APPALLING WHEN I DID NOTHING TO WARRANT HER ATTITUDE. I WILL NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS. FOOD: I like their food. It always tastes fresh and flavorful. There have been a couple of times that I feel like there is a bit too much salt, but then again, I am sensitive to salt. SERVICE: The staff that takes our order at the front is always nice and courteous. The only feedback I will provide is that it takes a long time to get your food. Once I was waiting there for a very long time and it seemed like people that came in after me got their food before me. I did have to ask them for updates on my order, but then it finally was ready. Maybe took 20-30 minutes. I would recommend calling and ordering ahead because they are usually busy and have a lot of orders. AMBIANCE: It's a small causal place next to Sprouts, but there is a lot of seating and some outside as well. I highly recommend the Shrimp Taquitos. Those are amazing! It's great for sharing but also a dish in itself if you want to commit to it. (I probably would next time). Their greens are fresh and the sauce is solid. Fish taco was ok overall. Their Carne Asada Taco is spot on. Meat is tender and you see the quality. Juicy is the word to describe the bite. Love the sauce bar options with the fresh salsas. The staff is friendly and shared a bit of insights on what is good. Always love staffs input as they are familiar with what is popular. I've been coming to Baja Fish Tacos for years now. I've been to many of their locations and one thing I appreciate about them is the consistency. The food is always fresh, the service is always friendly, and the prices are always decent. I'm a fan of the shrimp tacos, they use larger pieces of shrimp, not just this little mini shrimps you get at a lot of fast food or local spots. You get to choose between black and pinto beans. I'm more of a pinto bean guy. Everything I've had over the years has been excellent. Great place to stop in and get a nice quick meal. read more

First timer! Placed an online order for dinner. Very easy website to navigate. Walked in and noticed the staff welcomed every guest. Our order was ready for us. We love the grilled fish tacos and when paired with the delicious black beans and the even more delicious rice - I can't say enough about the rice - the meal is a perfect takeout experience. The food gets out fast and hot and is so fresh. I love the updated decor giving it a more rustic Baja feel with the wood wall art and brick facade. Ok, I am going to be totally honest here, I used to love going to this place. I would always order the carne asada burrito, even though it cost almost $18. The reason is because they would load it with carne asada and no rice beans like most other cheap Mexican restaurants. Well yesterday me and my wife went into order food, and of course I ordered the carne asada burrito and the girl asked me what kind of beans and rice I wanted in it. I told her none because that is not what I am used to. So she said I will put them on the side for you. So my burrito came out with beans and rice on the side, and then I realized that she charged me extra for the beans and rice. Well I didn't Really want beans and rice, but she offered to put them on the side. So then I I took a bite of my burrito and then realized that they filled with lettuce and pico , and barely any carne asada. Well It really makes me angry when businesses decided to change things just to save money, and deceive their customers. I can tell you I will never go back to any Baja fish tacos again. We're frequent customers at this location, but today's experience was beyond disappointing. We placed a $70 order, and the ceviche alone was $15, but the portion size was ridiculously small, to the point of feeling like a scam. When we called to address it, the assistant manager's response was that their portions are "smaller" and the only solution offered was for us to drive back in the pouring rain to get more ceviche, instead of providing a refund which was absolutely warranted. I tried to see if there is a correlation between prepaid tip amount and number of slices but there is not. It's pretty random, but expect only 3. The taco is large and very good. I've been to the other location in Lake Forest and this one just didn't live up to the same standard as the other one. We ordered fish & carne asada tacos, some baja bowls, & chips and salsa. Took this to go. Quite disappointed when we got home to see that the carne asada taco ($5.50) had just about 6 tiny cubes of meat. The fish tacos were good. The baja bowls barely had any chicken in it. In fact, the rice was just covered in beans and lettuce & sparingly prinkled with chicken - pretty much paid $11.50 for no protein. Consistently delicious and fresh. We like their blackened fish and Ensenada fish bowls. They have a tasty & spicy red salsa that we like to add to our bowls. They also have fresh whole green serrano peppers, pico de gallo, onions & cilantro plus sliced limes. Occasionally we get their tacos which are well made and sometimes we like to have chips & guacamole with our meal. What's nice is they offer a variety of beers which pair nicely with the meals. Service is efficient and the staff are always pleasant.
