This place deserves a good rating because service is tops and the food is pretty good. We ordered eggs and omelettes, and pancakes. We also ordered biscuits and gravy. I will say, this is not the best, but it is pretty good. The gravy had a special flavor, the biscuits were fluffy, and everything was cooked well. The pancakes were super fluffy but only accompanied with pancake syrup, which is a letdown for me because I prefer maple syrup or fruit syrup. The coffee was good, and this is important. Was passing this place looking for a breakfast spot for the morning. I noticed they had lattes so I was like yes! It's a seat yourself restaurant with outdoor seating accommodations as well. There was a bit of confusion as we had multiple servers coming up for our order but it wasn't an issue. The vanilla latte was really good even though it's not necessarily a coffee spot. It was beautiful out this morning so it was comfortable. I got two eggs, hash browns with sausage. Typical breakfast meal; nothing over the top but decent. My husband got a breakfast wrap which honestly was better than mine. All in all for two breakfast and drinks was about forty bucks which isn't surprising. I am not sure if I would stop in again for breakfast but would be a good quiet spot to grab a coffee and study or read a book. read more

My husband and I have been meaning to try Village Cafe since we live close by, so we finally have it a try on a Sunday afternoon. Village Cafe is located in a plaza with other businesses, including medical offices, other restaurants and bars. Upon entering, my husband and I stood there for a moment not knowing if we should seat ourselves as we were greeted by no one other than stares from other patrons. We walked up to the counter and were greeted after staff were done discussing incoming food orders. We were then welcomed to seat ourselves. There were various tables - either with two or four chairs - indoors as well as outside. We chose to sit inside. The decor was minimal and there were several flat screened TV's on the wall playing a church service while a Top 40 radio station was playing in the background. The chairs were really uncomfortable (metal) and the table we were sat at had peeling brown paint that was covering wood. Our server was friendly and was able to tell us the specials. My husband ordered a grilled roast beef sandwich on a hoagie roll and I ordered a breakfast special and added a side of cheesy scrambled eggs to my order. We both agreed that our dishes lacked seasoning and my pancakes were a little tough. Luckily, I was full before I got to the bottom pancake, which was burned, and before the restaurant grew any warmer inside. read more

My wife and I live in the neighborhood, so we decided to try Village Cafe. We walked in and it's a choose-your-own seating establishment. We sat down at a table. It took a while to even get the menus. They asked for our drink order, they were out of my order (Mr. Pibb), so I had to go with something else. While looking over the menu - which is a good selection- it seemed to be a rather homey place with a lot of regulars that are local. Most of the clientele seemed to be older, which might explain why there wasn't much seasoning on the food. My order came exactly as ordered (grilled roast beef sandwich with an upgrade for onion rings as a side) I was expecting the roast beef to have seasoning. My wife's order included pancakes (huge!) and they were a bit overdone. She also got the sausage links- good size - which were fried in oil which made them good, but different. My crew and I thought we check this spot out, from reviews seemed like it was pretty good. Sadly it wasn't, the environment was nice and homely our server was very nice and bubbly. I ordered the pancake combo but switch to French toast. The French toast were okay, eggs were a little hard and I tried the pancakes which were pretty but spongy and bland. Cute little cafe in Deland, FL. Came here with my boyfriend and his mom for breakfast and it was a pretty good pick. The service was fantastic, our waitress Brandi was very sweet and attentive. The food came out pretty quickly and was very delicious, with the exception of the home fries, for some reason they didn't have much flavor although they were pretty heavily seasoned. Tried to have breakfast here this morning. Bad choice. We entered the place just before another couple of ladies. As we entered we asked if we seat ourselves as there is no hostess. We were told yes. We sat, shortly after the other couple sat. The other couple were immediately provided menus. We were told "we'll be right with you". The other couple then got their drinks and ordered food, still nothing for us. Another employee said "we'll be right with you". After a few more minutes the first employee told the second employee " you have table 9". Guess that was our table as she said I know but continued doing something at the counter. After another few minutes the second employee grabbed menus as we got up and started to leave. She just stood there looking at us as we left. Ignorant at the least. It is exactly as it is named, a small little cafe. After multiple recommendations we took our group there. It is tiny and you can feel the love. However not designed for bigger groups so we sat outside . The food was amazing and the servers were delightful for being short staffed that day. Waiting 45 minutes for food thats way over-cooked is not acceptable, no matter how hot it is in the kitchen (get them fans then) or what lack of air conditioning there is. When we were in there, several people were sending back food because it was WAY over-cooked. My sausage patty was burnt, the hash browns were like eating little twigs, they were so over-cooked and the thing that topped it all was the chewy pancakes that couldnt even be cut with a normal knife ... I had to use a steak knife. If it weren't the fact that those things were over-cooked, the food probably would have been really tasty. We will come back a second time when we are by ourselves &. don't have guests wanting to eat before boarding an airplane. read more

I'm highly disappointed in this so-called restaurant. We went to finally go to try out this place out since we were gifted a gift card. The people at the counter tell us our gift card may not be good because it was purchased with previous owners...the place has the same name, you should honor our gift card. But they then ask this guy sitting in the corner like the 'God Father'. He eventually says we can't use our $30 gift card! Are you kidding me? Do you not want our future business and our good word of mouth? This "owner" obviously knows nothing about Customer Service and cares nothing about his customers. It was obviously a sign from the Universe to not eat here. While standing there waiting, the place is filthy, and very run down, we probably would have got food poisoning if we had eaten here. The lack of Customer Service and respect of honoring the Customer was very bad. As a business owner and someone who always respects and honors my customers with excellent Customer Service, it's shocking to see such poor business management. I DO NOT recommend EVER eating here. The food is mediocre, at best. The service, however, stands alone as being truly horrible. We live within walking distance, so convenience has driven us to visit on more than one occasion. We have now decided we would rather drive farther than give this business any more of our time or money. The last time my husband and I stopped in, we were greeted with sighs and eyerolls, at the counter. He decided on a Powerade and I asked for a latte. I earned another exasperated sigh for inquiring if they had dairy-free options. (they do not) A messy table scattered with single-use creamers and scattered sugar packets was my option for sprucing up my overpriced cup of regular brew. The tables were full, which was a mystery. 3/9/21 it was a nice clear morning, about 60*. A friend of mine, and myself pulled up and parked right out front. When we walked in my friend was ridiculed for not having a mask. (He has COPD) the waitress who was working rolled her eyes, and walked away. From what we could tell was refusing to seat us. I find it odd that you need to have a mask on until your drinks are served? I guess coffee cures covid? Whatever your opinion is on the pandemic, a little class, and some respect for our situation would have gone a long way. read more

I've been to this restaurant a number of times. I always get takeout because of an issuing walking any distance. Both Kim and Brandie have been wonderful by bringing my order to my car. I've eaten both breakfast and lunch meals there. My favorite meal to "eat out" is breakfast, and the Village Cafe does it wonderfully. I've also had their meatloaf sandwich and a great cheeseburger. Both were delicious. This morning I ordered "Bill's Breakfast" (2 eggs, home fries, sausage patty and a biscuit and sausage gravy). I've never been a fan of sausage gravy because the sausage can be strong. Their sausage gravy, however, is the best I've ever eaten. I hope when you read this review you'll go give them a try. Nothing special to report here. Simply a nice, quiet neighborhood cafe where you can get breakfast and lunch. My French Toast sandwich was tasty. Village Cafe seems to be supported decently by the neighborhood on weekdays. I appreciated the amount of colorful artwork, large windows and tv's and plan on returning. read more
