I walked in to a tiny but cute little bakery. We went early morning, the case was full of gorgeous pastries. My husband and I chose 2 goodies each. He got the cream cheese strawberry pastry and pineapple upside down mini cake. I chose a simple chocolate chip cookie and a chocolate croissant. I love how these pastries are not too sweet. I asked the employee to choose one for me. She decided on the strawberry filled pop tart which I probably wouldn't have chosen myself. But i'm sure glad she did! The pastry was flaky and soft, the strawberry filling was not overly sweet. The pop tart was so good overall! I will definitely be coming back on my next cheat day. read more

This saved my day like no other. After visiting the flaming disaster that was castroville bbq company, came next door with hopes of saving our taste buds. BRAVO BRAVO!!! You deserve more exposure and reviews than you've gotten. We had attempted to eat next door, so maybe it was a good thing so we didn't overindulge here. We had honey butter toast, cream cheese pinwheel, and a chocolate chip cookie. Let me say this, I cannot compare this place to a regular bakery. Like the inedible, completely waay to sweet other bakery in town. A true dessert, lets all the ingredients shine. Not just ungodly amounts of sugar. I can't compare it to a donut shop or Mexican bakery. Also, in price, it's not cheap compared to others, but it's worth every dam penny. The three items we had, were are all perfectly balanced. The honey butter toast was different in all the best ways possible. I'm going to assume it was fresh brioche, soaked in a honey mixture, then seared or broiled to just the point BEFORE it tastes burnt. That sweet spot, that takes true skill to perfect. The cream cheese pinwheel was almost as perfect. If not has just a little note of the cream cheese it would've been just as great. The cookie...it was so good you forgive that they pulled it out to early and it collapsed. I don't think it was intentional, but it was so good that we saved it, and later used the natural crater for a scoop of vanilla ice cream. One suggestion is asking if you would like your items slightly warmed up. This is worth a drive anywhere even remotely considered close. Thank you for saving my day! read more

Tiny little bakery. Reminded me of the bakery that used to be down from my Grandparents back in the 70's. It's a quaint little happy place, that smells amazing. The young lady running it was such a kind, sweet & patient woman, helpful & willing to answer all my questions about the pastries & goodies. They had baked goodies with fruit, custard, crumble topping, & even edible gold if you're feeling extra special the day you're getting your treats. (I'll be feeling extra next trip for sure. ) Today, apparently, my taste buds were craving all things flaky & crusty. So, I ended up with four different types of croissant style treats. Which is no shock, I do love croissants. The apple pecan just called my name, it smells like a freshly baked apple pie from your Mom's house. So for this Pi Day, this was my choice! Next I snapped up the almond croissant, cinnamon sugar croissant & lastly savory one to try out - their ham & cheese croissant. I have to admit - these put the ones I used to get back home in Wöllstein to shame. These are phenomenal. Their croissant dough is laminated with perfection. I plan on coming back until I try everything. I do have a favorite bakery in San Antonio, and I like one in Castroville, but it's an old fashioned one. I can tell you Baked is absolutely worth stopping by, take note of their hours Thursday - Sunday, worth remembering. When you're in the area get you some amazing baked goods at Baked. This shop is cute, definitely has the small town feels. The lady at the counter was sweet and helpful. The desserts look amazing but unfortunately looked a bit better than they tasted. I feel as though the treats could've used more time into the flavor and texture than the aesthetics. I'd rather have a better tasting croissant than one with gold sprinkled on it, just not necessary. It also doesn't justify charging $46 for 6 little treats that are not fresh. Outrageous especially when your competitors charge more than half that price for a dozen treats and they taste better. It also wouldn't be so upsetting if prices were posted anywhere in the shop so I should know to taste one first to see if it was worth it. Overall I'd say drive down the street to the next bakery. Unless you like spending a lot on something average. Overall this place does have potential and I'd like to see it improve for a possible future visit. My oh my! I've been wanting to try this place for the longest but never had the time to stop by but I certainly did yesterday. They were open and did not disappoint! The building is very cute, located in the main area of downtown Castroville. It's surrounded by cute boutiques so definitely take a couple of hours and walk around! They have seating outside to enjoy some of their desserts! Great during this cooler weather season! The inside is quite small but their desserts are mighty! They incased all of their desserts and I was greeted by a lovely individual by the name of Izzy. She was very patient with me as I asked her what everything was. Like always, I have a tough time picking just one dessert because everything looked amazing! I'm sure their menu probably changes often, but having name cards, even if hand written, would definitely be helpful. It may limit some of us annoying customers who ask, what's this, this, this or that, or wait ohhh what's that?!? lol! Either way, Izzy was a huge help and described each of the desserts for me. What I ordered: - Chocolate Brownie topped w/pecans: this brownie, as ginormous as it was and thick, was very light, moist and more like a cake like brownie than fudge, which I prefer. It wasn't overly sweet, but indulgent enough to satisfy my brownie intake! My daughter loved it as well! - S'mores Croissant: incredibly buttery, flaky, layered to perfection! Everything you want in a croissant but stuffed with chocolate and then topped with toasted/melted marshmallow or marshmallow puff cream on top! Wow! Hello!! This dessert was so good! My son, who is incredibly picky with everything, ate nearly the entire thing!! It had the right amount of chocolate and marshmallow ratio! Perfection! - Ube Coconut mini cake: for some reason, I didn't realize it had toasted coconut on top when I ordered it, but nonetheless, the cake was very moist, light, fluffy and definitely had the Ube flavor I love! It was not overly sweet. I was afraid the toasted coconut would overpower the flavor of the Ube but they had the right amount on top! A definite favorite of mine as I love Ube! - Peach/Pecan Vanilla cake: as I was about to ring up my order, I saw something glistening to the corner of my eye which caused me to pause and say, "hold up! How did I miss this beauty??"! Izzy laughed and explained to me it's a vanilla cake with a pecan/peaches crumble on top. They also had an apple one but that peach sold me! I had to get it & I'm so glad I did. The cake was moist but denser than the other desserts, in my opinion. But let me tell you about the topping!!! Holy schnikes!! If you just bottle up the crumble mixture of peaches and pecans on top and sell that!!!! You could sell this in every store!!! It's beyond delicious! Again, sweetened to perfection, I'm sure the pecans are toasted and the peaches were softened to the right texture! The cake was great but that topping....a chef's kiss!!!! or as the Italians would say it, SQUISITO!" - Almond Croissant: just like the s'mores croissant, it was flaky, buttery, layered to absolute perfection. I could have sworn she said there was an almond based cream inside of it similar to Bakery Lorraine's almond croissant, but alas there was no cream inside. Regardless it was still amazing and very yummy! A definite choice with a cup of cocoa or if you prefer coffee, on a cold Texas day! I'm not sure how much each dessert cost because I didn't ask as I was mesmerized by their beautiful appearance, but I did pay an even $30 for all 5 desserts, which to me was a great price, especially since they bake everything in-house! Please keep this place alive Castroville and the surrounding San Antonio area!!! They take pride in their desserts as you can tell by the craftsmanship of how not only beautiful they look but taste! Saw their beautiful strawberry/guava croissants available for Sat/Sun only and arrived early this morning to purchase. They weren't ready when I arrived and was told it would be ready in 30-40 min and that they could take my name and number and call me when it was. I prepaid for those and the additional cookies and muffins. I stayed around locally, but I was never called after an hour, so I headed over. The line out the door was crazy long. I went straight to the front and inquired about my order. She said sure I can get it ready for you now. What?! How come I was never called? I understand they're busy, but.... And then one of the girls had accidentally sold out the cinnamon muffin that I had paid for ahead of time. Ugh! She apologized, but I was told to either wait another 15 min! Or pick out something else for the same price! I really did not want to order another cookie or wild berry muffin , but had no choice. They recently updated the inside and all good is in a case now which is nice, we also tried their pineapple cherry tart (so good) and their Uber Coconut mini cakes (also SO good). Went there on Sunday to grab some baked goods and I ended up getting the "hazelnut surprise". After eating it, I can't stop thinking about it. It's been one of my favorite baked goods I have ever eaten and I am so happy the baker recommended it to me. The staff were amazing and the mood was fun and light! Have purchased from this location number of times since their opening. Selection of baked goods is not big unless you put in an order before hand. Which isn't the easiest to do since the owner is very dismissive. Her staff is very respectful but she herself seems unbearable. The pastries have good flavor, it's very unfortunate her attitude can cause such a strain in the stores atmosphere. read more

Do not bother going in early. Not only do they never open on time, but the selection is very limited at this time. Their opening hours are supposed to be at 7 but they open their doors after 7:30 am. The girl in the front is not very friendly and looks like she just got out of bed and did not even bother to comb her hair. She gives the place a very bad impression. The only reason I gave the place two stars is because some of their items are very good, but some of the prices are extremely high. $4 for a brownie cookie is way too much. The pastries are eye boggling, beautiful and unique in taste. There are so many pastries of such different kinds, it's hard to choose. The simplest item (in my opinion) is the colache but that doesn't make them common, they are the best tasting that I've tried. Tiny place, young ladies were very attentive and personable. This is defiantly not a traditional bakery. Items had lots of character. We bought many items but left with fresh Money bread. I was very impressed with it. Warm with a bit of a crunch on the edges and frosting was not over powering, really good balance. I loved the cake. Being used to box cake, this chocolate cake was a little thicker or more dense than the box cakes I'm used to. Very tasty. Carmel was nice. I would return. We picked up a chocolate raspberry(?) square that didn't make it to the car. It was one of my favorites. We will visit again. read more
