Tiny little bakery. Reminded me of the bakery that used to be down from my Grandparents back in the 70's. It's a quaint little happy place, that smells amazing. The young lady running it was such a kind, sweet & patient woman, helpful & willing to answer all my questions about the pastries & goodies. They had baked goodies with fruit, custard, crumble topping, & even edible gold if you're feeling extra special the day you're getting your treats. (I'll be feeling extra next trip for sure. ) Today, apparently, my taste buds were craving all things flaky & crusty. So, I ended up with four different types of croissant style treats. Which is no shock, I do love croissants. The apple pecan just called my name, it smells like a freshly baked apple pie from your Mom's house. So for this Pi Day, this was my choice! Next I snapped up the almond croissant, cinnamon sugar croissant & lastly savory one to try out - their ham & cheese croissant. I have to admit - these put the ones I used to get back home in Wöllstein to shame. These are phenomenal. Their croissant dough is laminated with perfection. I plan on coming back until I try everything. I do have a favorite bakery in San Antonio, and I like one in Castroville, but it's an old fashioned one. I can tell you Baked is absolutely worth stopping by, take note of their hours Thursday - Sunday, worth remembering. When you're in the area get you some amazing baked goods at Baked. You will be glad you did. Worth it!

This shop is cute, definitely has the small town feels. The lady at the counter was sweet and helpful. The desserts look amazing but unfortunately looked a bit better than they tasted. I feel as though the treats could've used more time into the flavor and texture than the aesthetics. I'd rather have a better tasting croissant than one with gold sprinkled on it, just not necessary. It also doesn't justify charging $46 for 6 little treats that are not fresh. Outrageous especially when your competitors charge more than half that price for a dozen treats and they taste better. It also wouldn't be so upsetting if prices were posted anywhere in the shop so I should know to taste one first to see if it was worth it. Overall I'd say drive down the street to the next bakery. Unless you like spending a lot on something average. Overall this place does have potential and I'd like to see it improve for a possible future visit. The best thing I tried was the cookie and that's the easiest thing to make.

Anyone Down For a Pastry Road-trip? Castroville is right outside of SATX city limits and is home to this beautiful French pastry shop! There's so many to choose from and each one is just as delicious as the next! It's a small space where you walk up to a countertop and order. There's a display case that shows a lot of yummy offerings and you can mix and match your faves! Staff will hear you at the door and quickly get your box together. They have different pastries each day and make a limited quantity, so be sure to go earlier in the day if you're there on a weekend! Open Thursday - Sunday *Seating is outdoors and extremely limited*

We were walking around downtown Castroville and heard some people saying that they had the best baked goods from this bakery. We walked over to check it out. The smell walking in is heavenly! We ordered couple of things to test it. It was ok didn't really know what all the rave is about. The girl at the counter was really helpful and sweet. It does feel like a little town bake shop. I am imagining it will be adorable to visit around Christmas. Hopefully by then they will have special bakes that will make up for the average experience we got

My oh my! I've been wanting to try this place for the longest but never had the time to stop by but I certainly did yesterday. They were open and did not disappoint! The building is very cute, located in the main area of downtown Castroville. It's surrounded by cute boutiques so definitely take a couple of hours and walk around! They have seating outside to enjoy some of their desserts! Great during this cooler weather season! The inside is quite small but their desserts are mighty! They incased all of their desserts and I was greeted by a lovely individual by the name of Izzy. She was very patient with me as I asked her what everything was. Like always, I have a tough time picking just one dessert because everything looked amazing! I'm sure their menu probably changes often, but having name cards, even if hand written, would definitely be helpful. It may limit some of us annoying customers who ask, what's this, this, this or that, or wait ohhh what's that?!? lol! Either way, Izzy was a huge help and described each of the desserts for me. What I ordered: - Chocolate Brownie topped w/pecans: this brownie, as ginormous as it was and thick, was very light, moist and more like a cake like brownie than fudge, which I prefer. It wasn't overly sweet, but indulgent enough to satisfy my brownie intake! My daughter loved it as well! - S'mores Croissant: incredibly buttery, flaky, layered to perfection! Everything you want in a croissant but stuffed with chocolate and then topped with toasted/melted marshmallow or marshmallow puff cream on top! Wow! Hello!! This dessert was so good! My son, who is incredibly picky with everything, ate nearly the entire thing!! It had the right amount of chocolate and marshmallow ratio! Perfection! - Ube Coconut mini cake: for some reason, I didn't realize it had toasted coconut on top when I ordered it, but nonetheless, the cake was very moist, light, fluffy and definitely had the Ube flavor I love! It was not overly sweet. I was afraid the toasted coconut would overpower the flavor of the Ube but they had the right amount on top! A definite favorite of mine as I love Ube! - Peach/Pecan Vanilla cake: as I was about to ring up my order, I saw something glistening to the corner of my eye which caused me to pause and say, "hold up! How did I miss this beauty??"! Izzy laughed and explained to me it's a vanilla cake with a pecan/peaches crumble on top. They also had an apple one but that peach sold me! I had to get it & I'm so glad I did. The cake was moist but denser than the other desserts, in my opinion. But let me tell you about the topping!!! Holy schnikes!! If you just bottle up the crumble mixture of peaches and pecans on top and sell that!!!! You could sell this in every store!!! It's beyond delicious! Again, sweetened to perfection, I'm sure the pecans are toasted and the peaches were softened to the right texture! The cake was great but that topping....a chef's kiss!!!! or as the Italians would say it, SQUISITO!" - Almond Croissant: just like the s'mores croissant, it was flaky, buttery, layered to absolute perfection. I could have sworn she said there was an almond based cream inside of it similar to Bakery Lorraine's almond croissant, but alas there was no cream inside. Regardless it was still amazing and very yummy! A definite choice with a cup of cocoa or if you prefer coffee, on a cold Texas day! I'm not sure how much each dessert cost because I didn't ask as I was mesmerized by their beautiful appearance, but I did pay an even $30 for all 5 desserts, which to me was a great price, especially since they bake everything in-house! Please keep this place alive Castroville and the surrounding San Antonio area!!! They take pride in their desserts as you can tell by the craftsmanship of how not only beautiful they look but taste! Come here for breakfast or leave with dessert after eating some amazing BBQ next door! You will not be disappointed in any of the desserts/pastries this place offers!

Saw their beautiful strawberry/guava croissants available for Sat/Sun only and arrived early this morning to purchase. They weren't ready when I arrived and was told it would be ready in 30-40 min and that they could take my name and number and call me when it was. I prepaid for those and the additional cookies and muffins. I stayed around locally, but I was never called after an hour, so I headed over. The line out the door was crazy long. I went straight to the front and inquired about my order. She said sure I can get it ready for you now. What?! How come I was never called? I understand they're busy, but.... And then one of the girls had accidentally sold out the cinnamon muffin that I had paid for ahead of time. Ugh! She apologized, but I was told to either wait another 15 min! Or pick out something else for the same price! I really did not want to order another cookie or wild berry muffin , but had no choice. She should have offered me a complimentary item for their mistake. Disappointed with the service today.....

Food: 5 Service: 5+ Ambiance: 4 When in Castroville, stop here! And if never in Castroville, find a way here! Be aware of their hours since they are not open into late afternoons. The inside is very small and has no dining area, but they make of for the small space with the smorgasbord of top notch treats. Additionally, they complement their sweet desserts with sweet service. The two young ladies that assisted and explained all their pastries were very sweet and helpful. Okay, having said that, this place is pastry perfection...I need to say no more other than my favorites of my first time visit were: - Cinnamon Muffin - Raspberry "Empanada" - Strawberry and Cheese Pinwheel - Pistachio Croissant - Sweet Potato Strudel - Guava and Strawberry Stuffed Croissant Yes, I walked away with a good selection. :-)

The shop is made from an old gas station that was converted into a cafe. They serve pastries along with a wide range of coffee beverages. I always find myself drawn to their seasonal drinks, which are usually themed around something fun. This year's holiday menu was Ice Age themed, but I remember last year being Shrek themed, and I think there was even a Top Gun themed menu at some point over the summer. For the Ice Age menu, I got a Manny which was a Chocolate Orange Mocha drink. I got it hot and it was great! The space inside is quiet, nice, and well lit. It's a great place to get work done. In the past, I've noticed the wifi could be tragically slow, which made some tasks difficult. During my most recent visit, though, I don't recall the wifi being slow at all, so it seems like that issue has been fixed. There is also plenty of outdoor seating if you get lucky with one of the three nice weather days in San Antonio. I really like the coffee here. For such a small shop, they do a great job, and it has become an essential stop for me every time I am in Castroville. RIYL: Coffee shops that are old gas stations but do not have a functional gas pumps anymore, so you don't accidentally get gasoline instead of a latte. I hate when that happens!!

Always hate when food trucks sell out, though it is understandable. Friendly employees, ready to answer any questions regarding the menu. What did we choose tonight? *Fried Mushrooms were unsatisfying. Slacking on flavor, breading overpowered. *Southwest Turkey Melt Sandwich, full of creative ingredients. Avocado, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pico de gallo, and even some kettle chips! Turkey was tasty deli thin cut, flavors came together well. Texas Toast was grilled with the right amount of butter an oil (you know how often places serve it drenched in oil!). I will say that the cheese was a little firm and the sandwich a little lukewarm for a "melt". Chose *Potato Salad as the side, which was tastier than expected; appreciated that there was not as much mustard or vinegar as most. *Mushroom Swiss Burger ironically had cheese that was far more melted than the Turkey Melt. Which was awesome, of course. Fresh and flavored sliced mushrooms (unlike them fried ones), a tasty fat patty (moist, tender, maybe a little extra flavor needed), and buttery, slightly sweet buns. Overall excellent. Came with *Fries, which were satisfactory; some were burnt and dry. Dessert was a *Fried Twinkie with Raspberry Drizzle. Oh, it was heavenly.

There was a sign to seat yourselves. OK. We sat down and the bartender brought us menus. Us and a group of three were the only customers. Brought us waters. While looking at the menu, a server comes over and asks if we wanted appetizers or go straight to order. Straight to order, please. The husband ordered the brisket pot roast. It came with asparagus and what he thinks was puréed squash. I had the pecan chicken. Panko breaded with pecans and a bourbon sauce. Maple and bourbon were the flavor elements. Came with baked Mac and cheese and sliced slightly charred carrots. This was really good, as was the husbands plate. Warm Sourdough bread and butter is served with the meal. We split a Caesar salad. The salad was OK, the dressing was a little tart and served on the side. I'm taking a slice of chocolate cake to go. As I peek into the bag, it is a generous slice with strawberries and a dollop of whipped cream. Stay tuned. The restaurant is part of the Hillside Resort. Looks like a bunch of rooms. When we were about to leave a group of women came in and sat at the bar. I told the bartender we'd heard about them through Texas Eats. He said 'are they still showing that? That was about six chefs ago!' All righty then. I'd say it's worth a trip to try.

Pork chop and steak were not dry, but juicy with lots of flavor. I loved pot roast growing up , so I had to order it here. Although tasty, texture was a little chewy and tough. Also would have enjoyed a little more helping of vegetable/potato purée underneath the roast. The salmon dish looked fabulous, but was slightly salty. The sweet bun that accompanied each dish were delicious! Service was good. I'd come back to try the pork chop next time around.
