Thermal fuse on my dryer went out on Friday. Light came on when the door was opened so I knew it had power. Just wouldn't start. Made an appointment for the following Monday. I cleared the exhaust vent and there were legos and dust like you wouldn't believe. He told me to clean it out yearly. They must have improved their customer service because I had no complaints. The lady who answered the phone was really nice and quickly scheduled me. I asked for a 30-minute notice, and she called me 30 minutes before to tell me that the technician was on his way. My washer was doing this insane noise when it got to the spin part. My dad tried to fix it, but in the end, he also broke the dryer that was at the brink of dying and I had done some quick maneuver to extend its life. The washer was still making that noise, so my dad told me to call Baker's. The guy came and stayed for two hours trying to fix both appliances. In the end, they both were a lost cause, and I have to get them replaced. While I was sitting there semi-depressed (was playing this video game while I waited and beat it so hence not being overly sad), he gave me a discount! read more

A technician from Baker's came to fix my dishwasher, which wasn't draining. We thought it was a clog, but the tech said our pump was broken. 1. He failed to write down the model # of our dishwasher, so the estimate was delayed for several days 2. the company was very slow to give me an estimate, difficult to get a hold of 3. We had a tech from another company come to look at our dishwasher, and lo and behold, our pump wasn't broken at all, it was a clog after all, which he fixed in about 4 seconds. I definitely won't be calling baker's anytime soon. Update - 05/19/11 - To their credit, when I spoke with Baker's about this issue, they did refund me for the $90 I paid their initial technician. My husband called about a leak in our kitchen. Water going out all over the floor when our washer/sink and disposal were turned on. I took off work, waiting 40 minutes past appointment time. Two guys came, confirmed that we had a leak as evidenced by all the stinky water on the floor and then told me they aren't plumbers so they can't fix it. So why did you even come to my house? Top it off, they pushed the fridge back so I had a heck of a time pulling it back out to clean all the stinky mess they left me. And, they want to send someone out tomorrow? We called these guys after I had 2 different folks come in and tell me a couple different things about my heating system both of which didn't make much sense and would have cost a bit of money. I am not an HVAC expert but I can tell when it seems like the person didn't really know what they were talking about and just spewing forth random HVAC related terms. Hands down the most professional guy we have met. Explained and showed everything in great detail. Didn't try to sell some stupid "Preventative Maintenance" plan. Very reasonably priced. Their phone number is wrong in this listing but the address is correct and they do have a website which hopefully Yelp will update soon. It's tough finding good HONEST folks to do work on your house. It was a dark and stormy night.... Isn't that how all nightmares begin? We called when our generator stopped providing electricity to the house.. It kept running but no power to the house. And everything seemed like it was going to be great- the lady that answered was so nice, we even got a late night call from one of their electricians who was hoping he could help us over the phone. Of course, if I hadn't been awake because of the heat and storm I might have been upset with the 11pm phone call. But after calling to schedule an apt thinGs just went down hill FAST! On the scheduled day we were supposed to receive a call about the time "range" the service person would arrive. We never received that call so we called - to confirm the appointment and get the "range". I was told the afternoon. Ok...so I stayed at home all day- I used the day off to clean the bathroom, which is when the service guy decided to call us- but instead of just coming to our house he decided not to show up because we didn't not answer the phone! What? We called and confirmed in the morning! When I called them back within 20 minutes the very abrupt lady said the only thing to do was reschedule! I was fuming! So I recluctly gave them a second chance- two days later. we again had to call to get our time range..they told us 12 ish. We are the next job so it might be a little before 12 or a little after. So when we called at 2:12 the lady said " oh I just talked him he should be calling you soon" so then at 3:30 I called to find out what was going on I was put on hold for 10 minutes then I hung up, called back and cancelled everything! So no, I would not call these people if you want anyone even remotely professional or reliable. read more

Save yourself time and money. Skip the plumber he has no idea what he is doing. He just stood there saying I do not know. His suggestion was to wait till it thaws out (that's at months away) and insult. He didnt have a heat gun or gas for his blow torch. Worst plumber ever. The hvac guy i love him. Had them come check my residence after a lightning strike. Informed the electrician I needed documentation of what was damaged for insurance claim. He noted one of the five devices damaged on the work receipt. I have called multiple times and left several messages telling them exactly what I need. The electrician simply refuses to call me back. have been a faithful customer for many years. Just look into your customer accounts for me. I have spent 1000's of dollars using Bakers. I use to tell my neighbors how wonderful you were. I would sing your praises. No more. Recently my dishwasher broke. Of course I immediately called Bakers to come and see what was wrong. They came (for 5 minutes and $75.00) to tell me that the motor pump assembly needed replacing and that they would call me the next day to tell me how much the part and labor would cost. The next day Baker's called and said it would be $500.00 to fix my 3 year old dishwasher. $300 for the part and $200 for labor. Thinking that was a tad too much I called Kitchen-aid about replacing the part. They agreed to sell me the part for $60.00. I called Baker's to tell them that I had the part and I just needed it installed. Instead of costing me $200 they said it would cost me $275 since I didn't buy the part from them. I asked to speak to a manager because I was a faithful customer to see if they would wave the extra $75. They said the manager was on vacation and did not know when he would return. They never offered to have him call me when he returned. I decided to call around. I called the Sears Blue Team. They came the next day. They charged me $100 to install the part. I spent $160 dollars to fix my dishwasher. If I had gone with you..... it would have cost me a total of $ 575. I will never use Baker's again. And I will spread the word. Far and near. My hot water heater went out and I decided to call up F.H. Furr (They came to mind first since I see their trucks with the guy on the back at least once a day). When the technician arrived, he found the problem .... only the element and thermostat needed to be replaced. Great, because I did not have to spend as much as I originally thought ..... WROONG! I was quoted $683.00 (this included a 15% discount). This is not my area of expertise but I knew this couldn't be right for only an element and a thermostat. I immediately made a call to Bakers Electrical - Plumbing - Appliance - AC - Heat (703-690-3214) to get a quote and was quoted $275.00 and 2 yr warranty. I wasn't sure if this was overpriced but its a lot less than $683.00 and they are Licensed, Bonded and Insured. I had to state that because the F.H. Furr tech told me most of their (Bakers) techs were not licensed after I declined service. I hate when businesses attempt to get over on consumers. The tech was courteous and guess what .... I JUST ENJOYED A HOT SHOWER!!!! Thanks Bakers for remembering consumers are your business!! read more

I have a restaurant in Woodbridge. They were to install an electrical connection to our nearly $8K Espresso machine in December, right before New Years Eve. The electrician they sent connected the live wire directly to a part inside the machine and it actually caught fire and could have burned the whole restaurant down. The machine is imported from Italy and the parts are very hard to find. They acknowledged their part in incorrectly attaching the wire on the inside of the machine, hence destroying the main operating part. They promised to fix it. Every time I called once the part was ready it took at LEAST eight phone calls and two emails via their website to get a response. The first two parts did not fit as, again, this machine is from Italy and very hard to find the exact parts. The part that THEY located arrived four weeks ago and again I have made at least six phone calls and several emails to no avail. I called this morning and the curt receptionist told me Mr. Ware was no longer interested in fixing the machine they blew up and to find someone else. Is this for real? I have not been able to sell this coffee for six months and now they tell me after assuring me they would fix it to call someone else? I have been so gracious to even entertain them for this long. Every business has its issues but it is in the response to the issue. If this is how they do business then I don't know what to say. There are lots of electricians around and I regret doing business with these folks. If I could give them a -1 I would - the WORST THE WORST THE WORST. read more

I have used Bakers for flooring, countertops, AC work and plumbing. The work was ok, with the exception of the plumbing which was very poor, however, the customer service at the office was very good (specifically from Yolanda). I found the prices to be high, however, felt as if I could trust the individuals working in my home. This was important as I travel often for work. I will however NEVER use Bakers again, as I installed cameras in my home to check in on the house when I was on travel and caught two Bakers employees not doing the work they said they did and flat out lied when confronted. I now question other jobs they did and will no longer give my business to such a dishonest outfit. The heart ache is not worth hiring this company. I previously had a good experience with Baker's when I had a problem with my air conditioning system a few years ago, so when there was a problem with our washing machine, I called these guys because they are local and seem to do a decent amount of work in my area. This was a totally different experience. 1. The technician came out a day early. I was lucky to have been home at the time. Ok, that happens. They probably would have come out the next day. No big deal, I was home anyway. 2. They charged $70 for the estimate/trip charge. 3. It took a week to get a quote for the work, with me calling multiple times and never getting a call back when I left a message. I finally go through, got the quote, and approved the part order. 4. I never got a call that the parts were in and to schedule the service. Again, I called multiple times and never received calls back. I finally got through to someone and got it on the schedule. 5. They will not give you a time window for the service, only the day, and tell you that you will get a call that morning with the time window. 6. The morning of the scheduled service, I got a call saying that they were very sorry, but the labor quoted was more expensive, and quoted me a new number that was nearly double the original. They had evidently not included the labor charge in the original estimate. The new estimate was more expensive than a new washer, and a couple hundred dollars more than I originally paid. I got a call back from the manager (who happened to be the tech that came out to the house). They would not honor the original estimate, but he eventually offered to refund the original $70 trip charge. I'll try to update with the results of that refund. Horrible, horrible service. They seemed nice enough on the phone and quoted me a good price to hook a gas oven, yet when they got to my home they claimed the plumber charged me $65 more than the quote and claimed he had to do "extra" work, I should he just give through the Sears program it wound up being the same amount and they would have provided me with the count certificate. read more

I had them come and an AC check, Mind you my AC was working find He went out and checked the AC and came back and said I had a leak and It would be $450.00 The hair stood up on the back of my neck. So I said I would have it done by my Home Warranty Company. Of course he said they wouldn't pay for the who9le thing and it was a small amount. I said I would take what they gave me. Within 2 hours of him lewaving my AC was blowing hot Air. I called anohter company and they came out and said there was only 1.3 lbs in there. On a weekday afternoon we experienced a clogged kitchen drain. This was a real problem as we needed the kitchen sink since we were preparing to entertain the next day. We called Baker's (we had been using them for the last 30 years) to see if they could send a plumber to our house this day. We were told no and the earliest some could be available would be some time the next day. This would not fit our schedule. We then asked for a recommendation of another plumber who they thought may be able to make a house call this day. The Baker's reply was that they could not give us a name. We then called another plumber competitor and asked for help. They could not help us but they were able to give us a recommendation. We used this information to call a plumber who could come to our house and successfully fix our sink. read more

I have never received worse service in my entire life!!! I called this company & paid extra to have them come out on a Saturday. They happily took my money & said they couldn't do anything because they needed to order a part on Monday. Monday came & I never heard back from them. So, I call Monday afternoon & they say they're still trying to find the part. Tuesday, same thing. Then the technician calls while I'm at work & says he needs to VERIFY the model # on my system. So, by the time I get off from work at 5pm their office is closed. It's now Wednesday & I leave a message at the office to give the technician what I think is the right model # & to request that they come out & look at it again themselves. The technician comes out & looks at it for about 45 minutes (Really? Just for a model #?). I'm told again that they are still trying to find the part. It is now Friday & I haven't heard from anyone since Wednesday. I've tried to speak with the manager over Heating & Cooling & was told that he was out in the field working. He's never returned my calls & I haven't heard from the technician in 2 days! Meanwhile, my family & I still don't have any heat & I'm having to pay someone else to come & do the job Bakers couldn't! STAY AWAY from this place. WORST service I have ever received. The electrician that came to the house did not do what he was supposed to do, but did what HE felt like doing, and I received the full bill! He cut every corner, and I did not realize it until my husband came home! He installed overhead lighting that could not be controlled by the switch, so it was always on! He did not run any of the wires into the wall where they were supposed to be, even though the ticket said he was supposed to do just that. I never realized what he did because we were installing the light fixtures that night, so I couldn't check to see if it was done right. I believed what he told me and he was lying the whole time. He totally took advance of me because he knew I couldn't check up after him. When we called to talk to someone we were told several time that a manager would call us back, surprise... no one did.. we kept calling and calling, finally after 5 days we got a hold of the manager who said he would send the tech back but would have to charge full price to fix THEIR mistake. My husband even agreed to run the wires himself (the hard part) and just have the electrician come and hook it up at the switch. Again the manager said NO! He even said if we were to run the wires or fix anything ourselves, our warranty would be void. Nice huh? So the manager said he would talk to the tech and call us back. Its now been 2 weeks and no call back. This place is garbage. Overpriced too, the cost to do the work was more than the estimate they quoted me. I wish I would have called someone else. I have used Bakers on a few occassions. About a year and a half ago I was getting quotes from different companies about replacing my boiler system. I had companies such as F.H.Furr come out and their quote was ridiculous!!!! So where the other companies, my home is older and the space where the old boiler is located is very small, I was told from another company that I needed to remove my water heater and move it somewhere else to make room for the new boiler system. Basically they were asking me to reconfigure my utility room! James from Bakers came out and gave me a reasonable quote. After being told by several companies that the area was too small I called Bakers back and talked to James and told him what the other companies were saying. He came back out to my home to measure the space and told me that he would try to find a boiler system that would fit the space. James called me back within the hour and said that he found a system to fit space. We set up a day and time for him to come install the new system. My husband & I bought a brand new Rheem Heat Pump from Brakers on 6/6/14(still new) the 2nd week out it stopped working it was very hot called them they said they had to replace a part (remember brand new) they took their time about it and really wasn't to concerned about it, I told them we had a 15mo baby in the house it didn't matter, finally they fixed it, not sorry or anything. Then again on Jan. 6, 2015 I placed a call & talked to the answering service (a lady) told her our heating system wasn't working it was brand new and we had a baby in the house whe said she would make sure they got the msg. No one came until Thursday said they would be back on Fri. to fix it. I didn't hear anything so I called them on Fri they told me the part wasn't in, I told them i was fustrasted and I had a baby in the house they really didn't seem to care no one called me to say I'm sorry nothing, on Tues 1/13/15 I told my husband to stop by the store and maybe we could talke with a Manager there was only one lady there who did call around and told us they had to order the part and it was coming from Texas!!! (wouldn't you think they could get a part rushed!!!) she said she would call us and that she worked in electrical shedid call on Wed. 1/14/15 and told us one part came in and the other would come in on Fri no it's been over a week without heat, with a baby! called again 1/15/15 talked to the same lady again imagine that! Whenever I ask to speak to a Manager or the owner they were neve there and never phoned back. My husband called one day and of course got the same lady who was nasty to him, We are a paying customer with a new unit that no one cares if it works or NOT!!!!
