First of all, the cashier was very pleasant, and the shop itself was bright and cheerful. This review is based on icing preference. While the cake in the cupcakes was moist, I was not a fan of the whipped icing. It also tasted like it left a film on the top of my mouth. The exception was the cream cheese icing on the red velvet; it was more like a traditional buttercream icing, with a less whipped/fluffy texture. So, if you head to Bakeshop, I would definitely go for the red velvet with the cream cheese icing. While I appreciate that they may have wanted to separate themselves from the icing at Crumbs, Sprinkles or Georgetown Cupcakes, all of those places have better cupcakes. read more

I took advantage of the buy 5 get one free cupcake offer. I am a sucker for yummy cake and buttercream frosting so, to me, this is the perfect dessert stop! I picked up an assortment of flavors- the Red Velvet was incredible! Although my husband's cupcake was tasty he began to fill extremely ill within an hour or so of consumption. After 8 hours of a very serious case of food poisoning we still have no definite cause to blame the cupcake, but nonetheless, the coincidence was worth mentioning to the store. When I called to let them know what happened they simply said thanks for calling, they hadn't heard about this from anyone else. They didn't take our name, phone number or even offer to refund the accused cupcake. So, hopefully ours was an isolated case but be aware nonetheless. read more

I am a red velvet connoisseur and by far, BSDC has the BEST red velvet cupcakes. It's fresh, moists and delicious. I compared it to GTCC and honestly, BSDC is a lot better! ***Strong 3.5 stars*** I was on the hunt for a cupcake and it was already a little after 9 at night so my options were limited. I google mapped cupcake and this joint showed it was open till 10. Winner winner! We rushed on over and saw they had a bakery full of goodies, not just cupcakes. Everything looked so good (the cupcakes actually were the least appealing) so we decided to try a few things. We got a mint chocolate cupcake, a brown butter chocolate chip cookie, an oatmeal cream pie and a chocolate chip cookie with an Oreo stuffed inside. The cupcakes and the oatmeal cream pie were just ok and if we had just gotten those I'd have probably only given 2 or 3 stars. The icing was odd and I didn't love it. The real stars were the brown butter chocolate chip cookies and those deserve 5 stars. I wanted a dozen! And they are huge. Soft, chocolatey and the browned butter adds so much to the flavor. YUMMY! The Oreo stuffed cookie was good too. But not as good as that browned butter cookie. The guy helping us out was so sweet and nice too so the service is great. I have come to this shop over a hundred times. Sent friends and family because I once really enjoyed coming. Not sure what has happened here but customer service is poor and that's an understatement. I had a large cake order that I had discussed previously with Bake Shop and to get in town and have to deal with a rude employee that was snappy and unconcerned with her customer. Everything that was discussed previously she said was incorrect and that they were training new employees so anything that was discussed could not be done. Please hire a better person to deal with customers. I have never been more disappointed or disrespected at an establishment where I am a paying customer. The young lady that was so rude was a heavyset African American women. I think this company needs to know exactly who this rude person was that lost them over $300 in revenue just because she had a bad attitude and refused to help a customer that was previously promised items that she said she couldn't deliver all of a sudden. Bakeshop has lost my business and the business of my friends and family. read more

Everything was delicious but the cupcake. First of all, who puts a cupcake in a brown paper bag? You couldn't spring for a cupcake box like Sprinkles or DC cupcake? I am writing this as a customer from Chicago. I wanted to do something extra special for my sister's 40th birthday and she lives in Arlington, VA. I called up two days before asking them how I could do this and they took all details, even to the time of delivery (I needed it delivered in the morning because she was working in the afternoon). First off, super glad someone finally has some great vegan options outside of DC. I live in Portland, OR and am surrounded by excellent vegan baked goods and am rarely excited about items in other places. This is an exception. Justin does an amazing job, especially for a shop that does not specialize solely in vegan options. We had a chocolate chip chipwich, a gingersnap chipwich, and an assortment of 6 mini cupcakes. The gingersnap chipwich was my personal favorite and the ice cream used in both was an excellent choice. Of the cupcakes it had to be the red velvet however all six were tremendous. The cake portions were perfectly moist yet did not stick to their paper and the icing was also a perfect mix of buttery/creamy and sweet. We had tried cupcakes from everywhere, Georgetown cupcake, CakeLove, Best Buns, etc..(yes, I gained some weight, but it was in the name of research!) and these were by far the best. My husband's favorite is the almond. Mine: the red velvet. We ordered 200 of those, oreo & chocolate and they were a hit. The delivery and pricing was also better than anywhere else, and I loved the small, edible size (so you can try different flavors without splitting your belt) and the perfectly pretty icing on top. In my opinion, this place is a steal! (Though my second favorite cupcake is the chocolate with toffee buttercream from Best Buns - it is huugge, so go hungry!) read more
