Raspberry chocolate layer cake. Best birthday cake ever.
    Sanah B.

So, my beautiful loving friends surprised me with a chocolate raspberry vegan cake for my birthday. This is one of the BEST cakes I've ever had in my life, vegan or otherwise. Its shockingly light, fluffy, yet deeply satisfying and flavorful. The frosting is airy and light and the raspberry filling layers are scrumptious - not too sweet and add a great balance to to chocolate. We're sitting and eating this the next day for post-brunch dessert as I type and it is even better today. You better believe all of my future special occasion cakes will be ordered from here. Thank you Dama for making my baked good dreams come true!

One of the most delicious and extraordinary meals, variety of cakes and excellent customer service. A place that brings to you a little bit of the Ethiopian culture right in Washington DC. Highly recommended!

Vegan velvet cake (vanilla, mocha, and chocolate)
    Jon F.

Not everyone knows this, but Dama Bakery has great vegan options as well! All of the cookies (raspberry or apricot jam, chocolate swirl, almond, and anisetee are my favorites) are always vegan (not that anyone could tell), as is the baklava, and they generally have 1-5 vegan cakes available as well (fruit, lemon rum, mocha, velvet, milefolle, and raspberry lemon are the most common). Occasionally they have special custard tarts or fancy cookies, and during lent they offer even more vegan items (they are working on a raspberry mousse to be released soon). Anyway, the pastries are delicious and pretty cheap, and the folks working here are incredibly friendly and helpful. Definitely a must for any vegan dessert-lovers to try!

Look, I enjoy my animal proteins quite a lot thankyouverymuch, but I have earnestly been transitioning to a more plant-forward diet due to a number reasons (hey, probably the same as yours!). Mosty I admire how the best plant-based chefs can make their recipes flavorful and filling...because it's literally more difficult from a scientific point of view (glutamates, etc.)! Over the course of two lunches and dinner offered by Simply Vegan, I can say that Nikevia really topped the charts in terms of wonderful vegan chefs. The multi-course menus were hearty, fresh, FLAVORFUL and delicious without feeling heavy at all. She had a wonderful touch with flavored waters (yes, she even flavors them better than anyone I've known!) and personal service. I very much hope that I find the occasion to have her cater an event that I organize! Or, at the very least, that others will take this review as a serious endorsement of her cooking chops. Please consider this wonderful chef and her company for your next event. Thank you, Nikevia!!

In fact, I had called when I arrived and couldn't get in touch with anyone. I looked around and couldn't figure it out immediately - when you walk into the door, you'll see 1 business. Turn left, and you'll see 2 other businesses showcased. Then, there's a door at the base of the stairs, and you'll see a bunch of stickers for places that have operations at Tastemaker Hall. Then, on the counter right by the door, if you've ordered, you'll see your food sitting there with your name, and that's how you get your food. That being said, if you're reading this, then you know about it, and you are one step ahead of me when I arrived. Thankfully, I had been drooling over the menu for sometime and then ordered before arriving. The menu has about half a dozen maki rolls to choose from if you order a 2 or 3 roll combo box. There are also some other combo boxes of sushi that include California rolls, avocado crunch hand rolls, jalapeño popper rolls, futomaki sushi and inari sushi to name a few. There are also bento boxes with a protein, japchae noodles, dumplings and pickled radishes. They have banh mi and tacos, salads and grain bowls, and they even have bao buns. I am always a fan of simple sushi like avocado and cucumber - and they did not disappoint. The rice was perfectly rolled up maki style with a perfectly ripened avocado filling and julienned/ matchstick cucumber filling that were delightful alone, bu spiced up nicely with the wasabi and pickled ginger that amply arrived with the sushi. It was a nice surprise that the rolls were so large - the pictures don't do it justice. When you pick up the box that has your food, if you're like me, you know how much rice weighs and when you have a heavy box with a dozen sushi rolls, you know there is going to be a lot of food! Most sushi from everywhere else I've ever had is to half the size, easily! It's rare for me to be happy with just sushi for a meal, but I think they've made an exception to my rule! One issue some might have is that there was no additional soy sauce or tamari with the sushi, which was fine for me but might not be fine for others. Of course, I had to try the superfood salad bowl complete with choy sum that was the simplest and most delightful preparation keeping it bright free, crisp, gently garlic and vinegar flavored while still tasting fresh. I could order a side of just that! The tofu was a little salty, but the amount was generous in the salad. There was also a generous amount of guacamole - I'm not sure if I like guacamole in my bowl with tofu, but it was still tasty. There was a generous garnish of green onions, as well. I would've like more kale, but romaine was okay. Fresh cucumbers were a lovely touch with the red cabbage, and complemented by the brightly colored edamame. Overall, the meal was delicious, and I would go back in a heartbeat. I cannot wait to try some more sushi and entrees here! Yum! Top quality and super fresh!

It's not as hard to find as you think We approached the front part of the shop (it had hot food lamps for to-go vegetarian food mostly), but upon asking to sit down and eat, the nice woman working directed us to go around the corner to the backside where they have a cute restaurant to eat in! The hospitality and service was very nice and generous. The women working take great pride in their food and are so kind. My mom and fiance had the Bun Mam and Crispy noodles with vegan "shrimp"/tofu and veggies. The vegetarian "pork roll", "shrimp", etc blew me away with flavor! Everything was delicious from the egg rolls and dipping sauces, to the depth and flavorful soups. Do not be intimated to try something new, walking inside Eden to find this hidden gem is 100% worth it! I'm not a vegan or vegetarians, but I did not miss the meat with our meal here. I had the Bun Hue (vegetarian Bun Bo Hue) and it was one of the best I've had. The dishes here are exploding with flavor and the portions are so generous and perfect for sharing. On a cold winter day, the Bún bò Huế was healing: the broth was spicy and flavorful, the rice noodles had great texture, the meat substitutes were definitely reminiscent of beef, and I loved the radish that absorbed all that great broth. The Bánh xèo was also phenomenal: huge and packed with perfectly seasoned tofu and veggies, came with a refreshing mound of herbs and a perfectly sweet sauce (I could seriously just have drank this straight). Updated Review (previously 5 stars) due to poor management response:…read more Management has changed since my last visit, and boy, this place is not what it used to be, and that makes me sad. About four years ago, I happily gave this restaurant 5 stars and recommended it to others. Unfortunately, my most recent experience was the complete opposite. During my meal, I discovered ANTS actively crawling around my food. (See video) It was disturbing to watch them around the sauce next to my meal, and I immediately stopped eating because I no longer felt comfortable consuming the rest of it. What disappointed me even more was how management handled the situation afterward. It was extremely difficult to get in touch with the manager despite multiple attempts. When I finally spoke with him, he refused to provide a refund because more than 30 days had passed since my visit. Given the nature of the complaint and the difficulty I had reaching management, I found that response completely unreasonable. I also raised concerns about being asked questions during my visit that made me feel racially stereotyped. Those concerns were never acknowledged or addressed by management, which only added to my disappointment. Because I believed this was a legitimate food safety issue, I filed a complaint with the Fairfax County Health Department. After investigating, the inspector informed me that they visited the restaurant, discussed my concerns with the manager, and that the manager confirmed my reported ant sightings. The Health Department also required additional pest control measures. Beyond the service issues, I also noticed a significant decline in the food. The wonton soup was bland and lacked the rich flavor I remembered, and the General Tso's Surprise tasted off and was missing the depth and spice that used to make it one of my favorite dishes. This restaurant used to be one of my favorite vegetarian spots, which is why writing this review is so disappointing. Based on my recent experience, the difficulty in getting in touch with management, and their total lack of customer service or care for loyal customers, I can't recommend dining here. They do not care about their customers based on how I was treated.

The carrot/cabbage and greens were fresh and tasty. I probably wouldn't get the rice again. It was fine, but served mostly to fill me up rather than add flavor. Japanese Katsu Curry Bowl ($15.00) plus $1.00 for greens and $0.50 for extra curry sauce. My partner enjoyed this dish, but thought the curry flavor could have been stronger. Also, they probably wouldn't get the extra sauce again. Overall, good bowls. We'll be back. One disappointment is that there is no way to "build your own bowl." I asked the server, and she said you can ask to substitute an item on one of their main bowls, but there's no "create your own" option. Since you order from a kiosk, it seems that could be straightforward, with the price adjusted based on what you add in, but I guess not here. That will limit the number of times I come here, because I prefer the option for variety. Ordering vis kiosk also doesn't allow you to order the sauce "on the side," which is another unnecessary (IMHO) limitation.
