My friend got the brookie (brownie-cookie hybrid). They were all great and good choices if you love chocolate, but I HIGHLY recommend the brookie. I was so stuffed with sweets but still regretted that I didn't get one for myself! It was super gooey and chocolatey with the shape of a cookie but the texture of a brownie. I ordered a cake online to be delivered. They make you pay over the phone, which is no problem, but they ask you if you want to "leave a tip for the bakers." Of course the fear is they won't do a good job if you don't tip. So I tipped. They specifically asked about sprinkles & I said yes definitely. With tax & delivery & tip, it cost $94, which would be fine if it was a beautiful cake. But they sent a white cake with blue writing AND NOTHING ELSE ON IT. It was the ugliest cake I have ever seen. Bakeshop is a lovely, magical place filled with some of the best sweet treats in town! Haven't tried their coffee or other drinks yet but man are their baked goods GREAT. They have a nice selection of flavors for cookies and cupcakes, including some vegan options. My personal favorite is the browned butter chocolate chip cookie :) If you're in the mood for ice cream they have amazing chipwiches (cookie ice-cream sandwich). What's even better is that if you buy one of their shirts or tank tops you can get a FREE cookie or cupcakes any time you come in wearing it! Good things come in small packages and this little gem of a shop has THEE best macarons and cookies I've ever had! First of all, you cant just come in here and get 1 or 2 macarons, no, do yourself a favor and get the box of 10. So..let me tell you about a boyfriend that got a custom taro cake from bake shop for his gf. He went to pick it up the day of her birthday and it looked amazing. He put it in the fridge and as he went to take it out he nicked it on something and the cake while in the box went tumbling. I.. I mean..he..panicked and called bake shop. They said they could try and fix it. They took 30 mins and made the cake appear BRAND NEW. In 30 mins! I dont write a bunch of reviews but this was wildly hilarious/embarrassing and I had to share the over the top customer service I recieved. I absolutely did not expect, but was very appreciative of what they were able to do. Absolutely fabulous treats! Cutest little shop with such a lovely staff. The display counter is always overflowing with so many tasty treats. Cookies, cupcakes, brownies, pies & cakes (by the slice and whole/custom order), pastries, cream pies, ice cream sandwiches, fruit bars, pudding, you name it, they have it. Best part of all: a vegan section with SO many vegan options. Almost all cupcake flavors come veganized, same with cookies, bars, etc. I couldn't leave without basically trying one of everything. The cupcakes were definitely a highlight, cookies 'n cream with chocolate cake, and strawberry shortcake with vanilla cake - the cookies 'n cream was so so delicious. So light and airy, with the perfect amount of frosting. Blueberry oatmeal cookies was unique and perfectly soft, with a delicious crunchy outer, Oreos in a blanket, and ice cream sandwich. Came here on a cold New Year Day, HELLO 2018! Hello Bakeshop! (First review of the year.) When we come to the NOVA/MD area to visit his parents, we always try to make a point to come to one of these cool bakeries and cafes, which we don't have too many of. This one in Arlington is great!!!! It's on Fillmore Street and has FREE parking! Park in the parking garage underneath the building. Decorated nicely - there are Daffodil yellow walls, wooden chairs, high stools, a map, and tons of mini polaroid pics around. Not too much seating so I imagine most people get their goodies to go. The usual coffee, tea and latte offerings. What is amazing?!? Their selection of cupcakes, cookies, macarons, and cakes. We tried the Vietnamese Iced Coffee on a 20 degree day, because that's how we roll. Also tried the Nutella Cream pie, soo good. Got a few cookies to go (Oreos in a blanket, Oatmeal Blueberry, everything cookie,) can't wait to try them. Service is efficient; one young man is particularly knowledgeable and nice. I wanted to give them a better review since I have gotten things here before but it was my first time and my last time ever ordering a cake here. I was so hopeful and they messed up the word "grandma" of ALL WORDS. Y'all had one job. This is suppose to be a pistachio cake and looked nothing like the photos on the website. The young kid boxing it up had to take a picture of it before even telling me/boxing it up. He told me what happened then tried to offer me cookies/cupcakes instead and kept insisting on it. I just wanted it fix but whoever made this was obviously in a rush because by the time I got there, they were gone. I don't understand how you can "finish" a cake without looking it over first. So then the inner fat girl in me had to get a 6 pack of assorted and my mom doesn't eat Red Velvet so I got her a Vanilla cupcake. Ma Dukes crushed that cupcake and I crushed the Oreo, Pumpkin with Cream Cheese Icing (my fav) and the Peanut Butter. The Peanut Butter cake part was a little dry but I still crushed that cupcake. Wow this place is great. After having a late lunch in the area, I was craving something sweet. I searched for cupcakes and cookies in the area and I saw that there were lots of great reviews of this place. I got there about 5PM on a Monday and the place was empty. I was happy to see the selection of cookies and cupcakes they had there. I wanted to try them all but stuck with a good old chocolate x2 (chocolate cake + Chocolate Frosting) cupcake a chocolate chip cookies. The total for both was just under $5. Both tasted amazing, literally top 10 cupcake and chocolate chip cookie that I ave ever tasted, and this is coming from a guy that has had lots of them. My mother was visiting and was dying for some fancy macarons which you can't get in the rural area where she lives. Usually we head to DC and get them from one of the shops in Georgetown or Cap Hill. We didn't feel like leaving the backyard with the glorious weather, so we were thrilled to discover Bakeshop's delivery option. We tried almost every flavor available in the app. The pros: convenient location if you're in Arlington. Delivery is very appreciated. Macarons look like the beautiful jewels you'd expect, with the 10-count sold in an elegant, long slim box. The cons: the filling for every flavor I tried was awful. Painfully sweet and with that plasticky taste you expect from cheap mass-produced bakery goods from the 80s. My guess is American buttercream instead of the more traditional Swiss or Italian. I found it inedible, but (probably obviously at this point) I love macarons and have high standards for them so YMMV. The shells were made with moderate competence: consistent size but too big, overpuffed, with a large air pocket inside, and almost no legs. Due to the air pocket they were more shattery than you'd expect. I also thought they were too sweet. They were also much more strongly flavored than I'm used to, but I don't really count this as a con, just a preference. I really liked the stronger flavor for the earl grey macaron, although too sweet and I had to scrape the filling out first. Bottom line: They're beautiful. They taste ok if you don't hate American buttercream like I do. But if you have the time for a drive, head to Olivia's or Laduree, or Sweet Shop in Capitol Hill. The difference is worth the drive. read more
