I don't understand the reviews. It's just very bland vegetables and some meat noodles in a dish. The food is not cooked together in sauce. The chicken really had no flavor--what it did have just wasn't good. The sauce was very salty which definitely knocks out any gains from the bland vegetables healthwise. Overall, my meal had no flavor and I couldn't even finish the meal--despite adding the sauce. They have no water sitting out, and you have to ask for water which they get from the washing sink. So disappointing and I absolutely won't be back. read more

I was a little disappointed with my meal at Balance recently. Usually I really like places like this- Chipotle, Bibibop- build your own meal types of restaurants, but the taste just wasn't there. I got the wiseman bowl with chicken because the server had said it was the most popular. The Szechuan sauce came on the side so you get to pour in how much you like- I found that because you are pouring in the sauce after its made instead of the sauce being stir fried with the food, it never really mixed well with the other ingredients. The vegetables were fresh, but totally bland. Plus if you wanted extra sauces you have to pay extra- I wish they could be provided free of charge like most other places do. This is a nice, healthy option in downtown, but I just did not find the flavor of the bowl as good as other rice bowl-style places I've had in the past. I don't think I'll be coming back to balance unfortunately! read more

I was downtown for a volunteer training meeting today (Saturday) and I decided to stop in to Balance Pan-Asian Grille. They opened in November 2018. The food here can be compared to Chipotle, Piada Italian steet food, or Bibibop asian grill. The price here is a bit high for lunch ($8.50) for a bowl so the price here is similar to Piada. Chipotle and Bibibop are definitely a bit cheaper. You also can't really compare this place to Chipotle because you actually get vegetables here with your meal and you don't really at Chipotle except for corn and lettuce. CASUAL RESTAURANT -- You order at the counter and wait for your order to be called out (similar to the other restaurants I mentioned above - Chipotle, etc). LUNCH -- Delicious. I was very full after eating. I ordered the Wiseman bowl which comes with vegetables, your choice of protein (tofu, lentils, chicken, or steak) and your choice of a carb/starch base (brown rice, vegetables, etc). I got my bowl with brown rice and chicken. The vegetables in the Wiseman bowl are shredded carrots, corn, broccoli, kale, and bean sprouts. The szechuan sauce is what really completed the meal. It is basically soy sauce but has a slight sweetness to it. It is the perfect blend of sweet, spicy, and savoury. The sauce isn't spicy at all, at least for my taste buds because I love spicy foods. DRINKS -- They sell traditional drinks (water and soft drinks or soda pop) but they have bubble tea. I didn't buy a bubble tea when I visited so I'll have to come back again a second time to try one. The have milk teas which you can get vegan by choosing Almond Milk. They also have iced-teas. SERVICE -- Service was awesome. I was greeted when I entered and the menu was explained to me. Overall, I recommend coming here for lunch. There are options for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. P.S. Order your lunch in advance during the week. I was told that they get very busy during the weekday (Mon. - Fri.) during the hours of 11am - 2pm, so lunch hours. I visited on a Saturday afternoon and it was very quiet. The guy behind the cashier told me that they are not busy at all on Saturdays and they are closed on Sundays. It's sad that this area of downtown doesn't get much visitors who want to eat or shop at the surrounding arcade building especially since the always popular 4th street gets very busy on weekends. I came here once before and I stand by the fact that this is a fantastic addition to downtown Cleveland. Fresh, clean Asian-fusion cuisine - perfect for lunch. The interior is minimalistic but clean and nice. The kitchen is behind a giant glass so you see the people work but it somehow doesn't feel intrusive. This time around I ordered a Wiseman Bowl ($8.50) on a bed of brown rice (they do have an option of white rice as well as a fresh greens as your base) with chicken as my protein. I love that the dressing comes on the side. I also ordered the Creamy Wontons ($5.00) because they are delicious. To top it off, I got the taro bubble tea. The food is great and customizable. Not a bad place for fast and healthy food. After my Harness Cycle class, I went just across the street to Balance Pan-Asian Grille for lunch. While the line was long, due to the number of businesspeople who were also hungry for food, it passed by super quickly, and I was able to get my order within 5 minutes of speaking with the cashier person. The concept is pretty simple - choice of sauce and veggies, protein, and carb. Normally, when I order at restaurants like this, I ask for the sauce to be on the side. But Balance Pan-Asian Grille already pre-packs their sauces in separate containers, which is nice. All in all, the food was pretty decent, not to mention the restaurant is kept so clean. The only major criticism I had about the place is that the flavors don't really mesh together. Essentially, I got a heap of vegetables, some chicken on the bottom, and sauce for dipping/drizzling on top of everything. This is something I can definitely make at home myself, but I will say Balance Pan-Asian Grille is nice in terms of convenience. read more

Went for Cleveland Taco Week. These were by far the best tacos I had out of the few places we went. They loaded up the tacos, they were not stingy. Service was fast and the people were friendly. I got two Mongo Tacos and one SoHo Taco. I should have done it the other way around. The Soho was fabulous, though they were both good. The sauce is what made it. The perk was that we were able to get the $2 taco deal and get it to go. The establishment looked very clean. We were even lucky enough to get parking on the street in the front. Okay so this would have been 4 stars until my friend pointed out the glaring similarity to the much more flavorful, less expensive, and generously portioned BIBIBOP Asian Grille. I know it's not exactly the same thing because Balance has a greater variety of sides (which looked really tasty) and drinks, like creative bubble tea flavors, available. However, as far as asian-inspired fast casual places in Cleveland go, I appreciate this one but it's just not as strong and can't help but make the comparison. I did appreciate the flavor of the Wiseman bowl with tofu and the option to have it on a bed of greens with a side of brown rice at no extra charge. That was a good option to add variety. There were lots of sauces to choose from on top of the one that already comes on the side of your premade bowl, but disappointingly they cost an extra 50 cents each. Again not to compare but..... Tastes good, filled me up mostly, and healthy options over all--no ragrets just wouldn't go back over other options in the area. read more

Really liked the food here! It tasted very fresh, and I liked being able to see the containers of veggies in storage while waiting in line to order. I came in with a friend around 12:45pm on a Monday and we waited maybe 10 minutes total to order and receive our food, so not too bad! I ordered the Wiseman bowl with noodles and chicken ($8.50). The bowl came out with fried rice instead, but the employee was very friendly and apologetic and immediately got me a side of noodles for my bowl. The ingredients on my bowl were all tasty, and I loved the chicken! The noodles and fried rice were both good too, so I would recommend either for the starch choice. I appreciated the tray full of cups of ice water next to the pick up counter for patrons eating there too! The only problems we encountered were that they were out of the brown rice and the wontons (seemed kind of odd to be missing two big items at that time of day), and the employee at the front register taking our orders was less than friendly to my friend when she asked a a couple questions about the menu (not an ideal experience for our first time here). Stopped by Balance for lunch on a recent occasion. I really like these high quality food shops that let you pick your bowl ingredients. Since I'm minimizing carbs these days, I opted for a healthy bowl. I got some teriyaki chicken, veggies, noodles, and bean sprouts. The bowl was delicious and healthy. Recently, I've been to Balance twice and I have zero shame about it. I cannot remember any time, ever, I was this excited about a fast casual spot. And even better, they also deliver UberEats if you're not quite on the main part of Euclid Avenue in Downtown Cleveland (where parking can be hard). Balance is a new, healthy spot in Downtown Cleveland for highly customizable tacos, salads and bowls. You choose the starch, protein and sauce. The staff is also super friendly and always quick to offer recommendations. Because its so customizable its effortlessly gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian friendly! So far, I love the Wiseman - a simple szechuan sauce served with broccoli, carrots, corn, fresh sprouts and kale. Customize it with the steak and brown rice. The steak is seasoned perfectly! The bowl is so huge and fresh that I use but a few drops of the sauce and I never feel guilty afterwards. I also love the bubble tea and the Swiss Beets appetizer, made with sweet pickled beets and swiss chards. I cannot explain why this tangy snack is so immensely satisfying. Like, how does a person crave beets? Who am I?! But really, any business that can help you eat your colors for this reasonable of a price should be knighted by the Queen. read more

Balance Pan-Asian Grille is my go-to spot for a fresh, filling, and healthy meal near Playhouse Square, the Q, or Progressive Field. Many of the nearby restaurants focus on heavy, meaty, bar food, which I also love (especially with a cold IPA) but they leave you feeling tired by the time you make it to the game or show. At Balance you can choose between healthy, hearty or both! The prices are fair for the portions and they definitely don't skimp on flavor. All the snacks are amazing. My two personal favorites are the citrus brussel sprouts and the bangbang nachos. The citrus brussels are crispy and the bangbang sauce could make a shoe taste good. My bronze medal snack would be the sweet potato salad because the sweet soy glaze gives it such a lasting punch. For larger appetites any of the bowls work. My favorite is the wiseman with chicken on greens because of the spicy Szechuan sauce (add a little bangbang sauce to kick it up a notch), but the tacos are better than the bowls and will keep me coming back. I am a chicken taco lover so I enjoy getting a 3 pack of the SxSE, BangBang and SoHo tacos, but truth be told I can't get enough of the BangBang and SxSe. I know my review reads like a bangbang sauce billboard but trust me the menu has much more. There are variations on Thai, Korean, even Indian flavors in addition to the normal Chinese -American styles you find around. Plus I love being able to see all my ingredients from prep to cook. It doesn't get much fresher than that. If you want a flavorful healthy meal downtown swing by balance. I bet you leave with a full stomach, a bag of leftovers and some energy to take on the night instead of taking a nap. Meh. Price scammed. Get your receipt and compare it to menu prices! I ordered a small frozen matcha, the price on the menu was listed as $4.50 for small and $5.50 for a large. My total came to $6. I asked for my receipt and found absolutely NO reason for the price increase. When I asked the person I ordered from he said "almond milk adds $0.50". There was no reflection of this on my receipt or an addition of taxes (on a to-go) drink that brought my assumed $4.50 drink to $6. Unfortunately, I do not have have a picture of the menu to show the drink price listed, only my receipt. To "justify" this nonsense charge they gave a "free" large. I have had their food previously through work, as a 15-year vegetarian it's just ok, nothing to write home about. read more

The cashier was really helpful in helping me choose. I ordered the Wiseman Bowl which contained broccoli, carrots, corn, sprouts, and kale. I enjoyed the green melon milk tea with boba and the Thai guy bowl while sitting at the front window people watching E 4th. The Thai guy is carrots, peapods, sprouts, crushed peanuts, cilantro and hot peppers (I had them on the side) served with Thai-style peanut sauce. The meal had a kick without being too spicy. The food is very fresh and I've never had a bad experience. The tacos are nice and not what you would expect. Take a chance on the blue corn shell which is actually a soft tortilla. I was lucky enough to receive an invite to their special event with Chip tha Ripper. I have been eager for this place to open and to try their food, but was even more ecstatic to see that the proceeds were going toward the Hunger Network of Greater Cleveland. The location is a bit tricky to reach by car. I came on a Saturday at 1pm and had to park a couple blocks away in a 1 hour only metered parking spot. Additionally, at the moment there is a lot of construction going on near the restaurant, so finding the entrance was a challenge. We were welcomed warmly when we entered and given a brief overview of how the menu works. I recommend just grabbing the paper copy because it may take a minute to figure everything out if you have never been. I was really intrigued by the tacos, but decided to get a bowl since that is their main attraction. I ordered the teriyaki bowl with chicken breast (added cost, the standard chicken is thigh meat) over greens I also ordered the pickled beets and collards. My friend ordered the wiseman bowl with chicken thighs and rice. The woman taking our order was super friendly and personable, like the rest of the staff, and was kind enough to offer us free cups of water and suggestions while ordering. She also asked if we were dining together, so that our orders would come on the same tray, which was great. The aesthetic inside is awesome, there is a very clean and modern feel and tons of fresh plants. (There were also iphone chargers at some of the tables, so cool!) The food was incredibly fresh and I was so happy to see the sauce comes on the side so you can add to your liking. Honestly the chicken was really special which sounds weird- but normally at fast-casual restaurants such as these, I always feel like the protein tastes like it came out of a microwave. This tasted fresh off the grill. The pickled beets I ended up adding to my bowl and were delightful. I will definitely be back at some point. I would love to try some of the taco options in the future. Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to come in as often as I would due to the location and difficult parking, but this would definitely be a great lunch stop if you work in the area, or find yourself downtown for the day. read more

The bowls and tacos give you options on the general flavor theme, along with protein (chicken, steak, tofu...) and starch options (noodles, rice, greens...) The tacos also give shell options. This was my first time here and I had a wonderful first impression. Even during the lunch time rush, the staff was friendly and welcoming. When the line got backed up, someone came to pass out menus so that everyone would have a chance to prepare before reaching the counter. I selected a bowl with carrots, broccoli and sprouts. I chose chicken as my protein and rice as my foundation. It was crowded, but it took less than 10 minutes for my order. I like that there is a table with phone chargers right in front of the window where you watch your food being prepared. The food was delicious! I also tried a bowl here, salad as my base, teriyaki bowl, but swapped out the teriyaki sauce for peanut sauce and a green curry, lastly my protein was steak. Overall it tasted good, came out quick and fresh, and was plenty of food for me to save half for lunch the next day. The peanut sauce was pretty sweet in my opinion although still good just not expected, but the green curry was deliciously spicy. I was a little disappointed by the steak as it costs extra but it was very small pieces and barely noticeable. Although, I know someone else who had steak tacos and didn't have that experience. I had an espresso milk tea no bubbles. It was very good but I was surprised by how sweet it was as the menu doesn't mention a sweetner for that drink.
