New owner, new life, good food, good vibes! I usually come here once every two weeks, when I get a haircut with my boy Tracy. Shoutout to my brotha Tracy with the freshest taper fades in the valley! But back to the subs. I've literally grown with this place and have seen owners come and go like George Clooney wives! One thing I can say now is that Will (the new owner) is the best of them all! Dude is Yoda in the sandwich game looks quiet and calm but got knowledge and skill with the lightsaber (knife). He has definitely made Balboa subs better! The subs here are amazing, and taste so good makes you wana slap yo mama! (For this reason I haven't taken my mom here) I usually go with the tuna and a side of maca roro. I swear the tuna is so fresh you'd swear he went fishing for it right after I ordered it. Maca roro is delicious and tastes like it's home cooked and not from a box. Every sandwich has a house dressing that taste so good it makes toes curl ( get the idea!). The only con here is the wait. I mean it's a one man show, so instead of being a pain in the tush. I looked up places and came across Balboa Sub Shop and it's right across the street from my house so I decided to give it a shot. I ordered the Avocado Turkey Swiss and let me just say WOW. Well, where do I start.... First, the best sandich isn't even on the menu. And if you don't know, you better ask somebody. I don't get the sauce or the dressing, but my sandwich is always good. Best club sandwich ever, ordered "spicy" and absolutely loved it. The pastrami is also great, fresh bread. This is not a crappy fast food joint, this is a serious sub shop. Try it. I also noticed that if you become a regular at this place, Jerry stacks your sandwich with a generous amount of meat! Be aware that when it's lunch time (12-2pm), this place gets busy and you'll probably have to wait 10-20 mins for your sandwich. But fear not, sit down and watch sportscenter until its ready! One of the highlights of moving back to the valley is getting to start coming here again! The previous couple owners have made things and my fav spot difficult but thank the heavens above for the new owner Mike. Had not been here in years apparently it has changed hands a few times but i did drop by again yesterday for lunch and was not disappointed as a matter of fact i was delighted! The owner was friendly the place was clean and of course the food was great! Being a culinary professional i am somewhat picky about my food. They're menu has a great selection of both hot and cold sandwiches and they steam the bread to ensure that the sandwich is soft and inviting to the mouth.
