Dinner at Balcony One was by FAR the best I had on my trip to Zion. It was clear the restaurant held itself to higher standards than other places around - we were greeted immediately, the staff was very professional and friendly, and the food was more gourmet than anywhere else in the area ! After seeing all good reviews on this place we decided to give it a try! But our experience was different than other people's experience. We were not given an opportunity to sit down, we waited over 1.5 hours only to have to leave. We were told that our wait was 1 hour because of the size of our group and no reservation, we were okay with this. However, after seeing that families of 4,5 and 6 people were being seated on larger tables with extra chairs WITHOUT a reservation (we were right next to the check in table) we let the front lady that we did not need to be seated together. They still didn't let us in and said that they were waiting for a big group to leave which she had said that they had already paid 30 minutes prior. Then we saw a Latino family of 4 that walked in and were told that the wait was an hour. At this point it was not hard to feel discriminated because the color of our skin. We asked to speak with the manager and we expressed our concern to the owner George. All he said was that the hold up was the big group that had already exceeded their reservation time. We let him know that we were not given the option of sitting at different tables and we had kids that were hungry. He didn't show any concern or offer any solution to the matter. Not feeling welcomed is an understatement! We decided to leave. We have never experienced this and it's disheartening to have gone through it. In town for a baseball tournament in Hurricane. Took the short drive to Virgin to try the food and have a proper cocktail. This place is off the hook good. Will come back again for sure. I took an out of town guest for dinner. The waitress was a long time getting to us, said they had no soda drinks, the appetizer was late, followed 1 minute later by the main course. Our bread was burnt and stale and cold oddly enough. My friend ordered a beer that the waitress later said they were out of, so he ordered another kind - she came back with the same reply, and when he asked to sample one, she said they don't do that. He went to the bar and the bar tender said samples are no problem - offering him one. Obviously this waitress did not want to be there. All of the other things weren't an issue as much as how the waitress handled it. She was the reason for a miserable dinner experience - too many things to mention. I can never remember leaving a restaurant , but she is the singular reason I left this one without eating. I will never go back to a place with that kind of server. Do yourself a favor and GO ANYWHERE ELSE - there are other fantastic places to eat in the area - all great food and service. read more

I made a reservation via Open Table. Upon arrival I noticed a display of artifacts over the front door, including an Aunt Jemima syrup bottle and pancake mix box. I asked about the reason for this display and was told, "I wonder the same thing." I told our server we expect an A-political dining experience and realize we're in a far right part of the country. Word traveled among the employees, and when we left the owner canceled our reservation on Open Table to deny us the points we earned via that platform. I conclude he's both unethical and racist. George Rodinos is the owner. He has POC working for him, and they are forced to work in an environment in which they must gaze upon racist stereotypes and tropes. These choices are not a reflection on the employees. They were professional and performed their duties superbly. Our food was good, so props to the chef; however, a dining experience is about more than food and service. It's also about atmosphere, and the atmosphere of Balcony One left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

I wish I didn't have anything bad to say... I agree with a lot of the not so good reviews on here. Waitress was super nice so one star for her. Owner came and talked with us so one star for that. It's a quirky place, I appreciate that. But the food...... not good at all. Everything lacked seasoning. No flavor. The bread you can order is pretty good because it's warm and soft. But even that lacked flavor! We ordered the chicken. It lacked any seasoning at all! It was super greasy, almost like they deep fried it or something? The "baked" potato appetizer was definitely not baked. We opted out of having it flash fried. So I'm sure the potato is already pre cooked so it's ready to deep fry to serve. Pretty certain they microwaved the potato and threw some packaged pre shredded cheese on top bc the cheese was a hard melt. Love, love, love Balcony One! It's friendly, casual, comfortable, has an amazing staff and everything on the menu is great. I stop there at least 3 times a week, sometimes for lunch, sometimes for dinner, and sometimes just for a beer. I love the ahi tuna tacos, all the salads, great salmon and sometimes I have to have the rib eye! Make sure to order the flourless chocolate cake and, as I always say, eat dessert first. Our first visit to this restaurant did not disappoint! It was delicious. Everyone was smiling and gracious. Our swell waiter was just right, not hovering and not neglectful. Hubs had the baby backs (BBQ sauce on the side) including corn pancakes and hunky chili. He proclaimed it to be fantastic. I had the wedge salad, generously topped with a quality chunky blue cheese dressing and diced pork belly. I also ordered a baked, flash fried potato adorned with pork belly, cheese, sour cream and onions. Everything was so good. We had margaritas. We have our standards when it comes to margaritas and these met them. Highly recommend Balcony One! read more

Balcony One... what can I say? Incredible. Already a Southern Utah classic, a bold opening amidst the 2020 pandemic, yet a inspirational venture that I am sooo glad to experience. My wife and I were able to have our date night just a few days after new years 2021. Money has been tight, so we were so absolutely elated to find a welcoming atmosphere, incredibly hospitable staff and amazing food. It made the treat to ourselves completely worth it and our anxiety immediately melted away. And OMG the food... and the drinks! The bartender started us off with the best Manhattan I have ever had -and I've been all over the world at the best bars. The food... incredible. I normally don't care for brussel sprouts, but the sweet, bacon infused sauce completely distracted me from the ribeye... which in itself was a masterpiece of local, sustainably raised beef. And guys... deep fried baked potato... fagettaboutit. If you are in southern Utah... you have to stop by Balcony One on the way to Zion... or go out of your way to experience it, it's worth it. One of the best meals we had in the area. Even with the electrical outage that night, Balcony One delivered a delicious dining experience. We tried the Pig Wings and the chicken empanadas for appetizers. Both were great! We wanted to get the ribs but they had already sold out so we opted for their pasta dishes. We enjoyed the chicken fettuccini alfredo, the rib ragu pappardelle, and the linguine with pan seared scallops and shrimp. Visiting Zion but stayed in La Verkin, saw that Balcony One had 4.5 stars - our rating is 5 stars. We had the Greek Salad and the Ribeye with baked potato and Brussel sprouts. Both meals were amazing (and not because we hiked 10 miles that day). Server Ezra was also great and really attentive. Refilled our water and ice teas without hesitation. My first time here, came with a party of 10. My family of 4 got seated at a 2 person table tucked away, around a wall from the rest of the people in the party. wasn't enough room what so ever, but I still wanted to try their ribs, waiter came and said they were out of the ribs after we ordered our drinks and appetizer. Then my son spilled a drink we hurried and cleaned it up, waiter came to bring us bread, we had to ask him if he could take all the napkins and extra things so we had at least room for our plates of food, slowly the service was declining, I waited 20 mins just to get my check. I am very disappointed and really unsatisfied. I will most likely never go back there again. They treated the other party I came in with like royalty and us like complete shit.
