Tonight was my first time trying Bit & Spur. My plan was to go for a drink, the live music and local farmers market they have on Monday nights in the cute outdoor area. Then I started looking at the food that kept passing me by. Everything looked so good, but I'd already eaten! So, I decided to order something little. I grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered the steak and peanut sauce along with a side of chili verde. Both were so delicious! I have friends who come here often and love the food. I will be back! I'd give it five star service and four star ambiance. It's a bit like a local style Chili's on the inside, not much to write home about. But the food is fantastic and the service was so fast - and our waitress was awesome. She even offered my husband a to-go cup for his last refill of soda before we headed out. We dined with our kids, both of whom at one point felt it necessary to break down, and we were treated very kindly regardless. It is a family friendly place. The stuffed jalapeños are the best!! We stopped at Bit & Spur during our trip to Springdale and unfortunately it was a miss for us. The restaurant has an older bar-style ambiance, which may appeal to some, but the food did not live up to the reviews we had seen. We started with the chips, salsa, and queso. One thing to note is that the chips and salsa are ordered separately, and the queso is an added extra charge on top of that. For our meals, we ordered the special swordfish taco and the carne asada tacos. Both proteins lacked flavor and were heavily covered with pineapple salsa, which overpowered everything else. The tacos themselves were very bland and desperately needed salt. Once we added salt, they became much more enjoyable. The same went for the rice and beans -- both were pretty flavorless until seasoned. The highlight of our experience was Jimenez (Hopefully I'm spelling his name correctly) who did a great job handling a very busy bar section. Service was attentive despite how packed it was, and we appreciated that. Overall, the food just did not meet expectations, especially for the price point. Sadly, Bit & Spur would be a hard pass for us if we return to Springdale. read more

Just finished hiking Zion and needed a spot to replenish my appetite. I wasn't starving but was absolutely ready to eat. Saw this Tex-Mex place nearby and thought sure why not. Nothing too crazy, but they have multiple solid entree. I ordered the stuffed jalapeños as appetizers to start and I don't know why but I expected to be breaded. Let's just say I did not read the description. Still good, but phew it was seriously spicy, so come prepared. The jalapeños came out so quick even the person serving us was surprised, no complaints there. It came so quick I didn't even get beer yet. For the main I went with the 3 for $23: chicken enchiladas, al pastor tacos, and the wagyu tacos. None of them disappointed. The standout was the crunch the veggies had in the tacos, it really elevated the whole bite. Going in, I wasn't expecting San Diego-style tacos, and that's the right mindset to have. These are Tex-Mex tacos done well on their own terms. Ambiance was really chill when we got there we beat the crowd and it had a relaxed, laid-back vibe. Really tiny parking lot, so you are better walking there or taking a shuttle near. We got the last space even at 5:30 pm. Popular restaurant. We got a table outside. The white sangria sounded good but didn't have much flavor. The swordfish tacos - tasted fresh with pineapple salsa in corn tortillas came with black beans, and rice. My husband got 2 enchiladas, beans, salad - filling. Visited the restaurant as my boyfriend and I stayed in Springdale for the weekend! Bit & Spur has such a nice vibe, decor and lights. We were seated immediately, and our waitress was very nice and checked on us frequently. I really loved the blueberry lemonade, it was so tart and not too sweet. My boyfriend got the prickly pear special margarita and also liked it! Chips and salsa plus guacamole was very good and hit the spot. Chips reminded us of Chili's! My boyfriend got three different tacos (1 al pastor, 1 wagyu beef, and 1 tequila chicken) and I got two of the vegan tacos. We both agreed the rice and beans were very good. The only thing that's missing is that my boyfriend didn't go crazy over his two tacos - wagyu beef & the chicken tequila weren't his favorite. The wagyu beef was a bit greasy, and the chicken was a little dry. BUT - he did enjoy the al pastor tacos! He said he would've preferred three of the al pastor tacos, but obviously it's our first time so he wanted to try them all. My tacos were good but spicy! Great food, beautiful artwork, slow service and overpriced. This is one of the nicer restaurants in Springdale, but $140 for two is too much! We did order chips-and-salsa, two beers, chicken salad, and two Ono fish taco plates. Saw some of the photos on the Yelp and Instagram, and honestly was not impressed... but wow. The food was fantastic. Very flavorful, proteins were moist and tender, salsas and sides were fresh. The service was great. Side note - Try the hot sauce! VERY flavorful with a little kick. I typically only like hot sauces that have flavor and aren't just spicy. Drinks are dumb cheap. We were staying at Flanigans for the night to visit Zion and didn't want to drive so we walked 1 mi each way (kinda far but thats ok). Wanted to get food and cocktails to end the night of hiking. They had a fresh watermelon margarita special that night so I got it. Hubby got meatloaf, I got the shrimp pasta with capers, my son got the tacos and we got taco salad to share. Probably everything I have to say has already been said in other reviews... The chips were fresh & crunch - we devoured 2 bowls (and probably could have eaten a 3rd). I went with the chipotle chicken pasta dish. My server warned me it was creamy & heavy, so I knew what I was getting myself into. But it was also SOOO tasty. I think this is the most happening restaurant and bar in the vicinity. There is a popular speakeasy and brewery in the area but this restaurant seems like a main stay for the resident restaurant workers and visitors. We came for a late dinner after a long day in the park. Made reservations in advance but the restaurant wasn't busy. We opted to sit inside, but I later wished we'd sat outside for the ambiance. Our waitress was patient with us as we deliberated on what to get. I got the special margarita - it was prickly pear but tasted like a normal margarita to me. We also got the chips & salsa, which you have to pay for but they are bottomless (we went through at least 2 bowls of them)...they were good. For dinner, I got the enchiladas plate and my partner got the carne asada. Both were tasty, but also nothing to write home about in comparison to other mexican-ish restaurants. Bit & Spur is listed as tex-mex, but it didn't seem different than any other Mexican I've had. All in all, the experience was good but also not particularly memorable. Not only was the char very good but there was a spice we couldn't pinpoint - our server shared it was Tanin! Game changer. The peppers also came with a citrus yogurt like sauce - so creamy and full of flavor. Ford our entree we had the chicken pot pie and carne asada. This is one of the very few restaurants that open late so I decided to go. However, there were numerous flaws in cleanliness. First, the table was not cleaned properly. I sat on a large pool of salsa on the chair that somehow the waitstaff completely overlooked. It was angled in a way where I wouldn't have noticed at first but easy to spot if you pull the chair forward a bit. Second, the bathroom doesn't have soap and I had to ask a few times for them to refill to clean up the mess they put on me. The only thing they did was comp the corn fritters which is okay but a bit insufficient for the huge inconvenience - I had to go out of my way to pay for laundry after this incident. We were lucky to snag an early New Year's Eve reservation, and the place was lively and buzzing. Service was great, and the atmosphere felt fun with live music later in the evening (though we didn't stay long enough to catch it). Would be a 5 star experience but there's a couple of downsides: Parking the lot is very small and we ended up paying to park across the street. Since it was just the two of us, we were seated at the bar instead of the main dining room, which was a bit tight on space but manageable. I enjoyed the blueberry fruit lemonade. Chips, guacamole, and queso were also devoured. The sweet potato tamales were excellent (pork), and we loved the entrées so much we ordered TWO of these. We also tried 3 tacos (blackened shrimp, al pastor, lime grilled chicken). The shrimp was good, but the others were average and not something we'd order again. Black beans and mixed greens that come with many entrées were both surprisingly good. Dessert was also a great choice! Ordered a carne asada plate and got a tv dinner steak that was horrible tasting tastes like rubber. The rice came out yellow and bland no taste at all. We went here after a strenuous hiking day at Zion Park. My daughter was asking for a steak dinner, and after my husband research, we believe this was the only place that served steak. We ordered chips and guac also roasted cauliflower for appetizer. I assumed they put masala powder to the roasted cauliflower, which made it so flavorful. The steak was all right. We were all satisfied. There's nothing significant about the steak however we were waiting for our food for quite some time. It's not the waiters fault and I don't think that place was also that busy when we were there. But we had to wait about 30 minutes for our food to come.
