No human is "perfect", except for the one, Christ Jesus - Some expectations end up with resentment. I have never resented coming to this diner on Sunday after church even when they are busy! Late breakfast, wasn't busy but still felt very hectic. our server was nice but seemed new. I had four in my party and we ordered a variety including pancakes, omelettes, french toast, scrambled eggs bacon, etc. When the food came out, the scrambled eggs were dry and toasted so we returned them. The pancakes were burnt as well. Omelette had no cheese and we had to ask several times for the hashbrowns. When we received our new scrambled egg plate, we noticed a hair cooked into the bacon. Obviously, we were already disappointed with the food quality so we returned the plate and by that time, as my sister (her plate), had already lost her appetite and said she didn't want it anymore. The rest of us tried to force ourselves to eat but we ultimately picked at our food. We asked for our bill and proceeded to go and pay. Our total was $84 and change and I asked that they remove the plate that we returned (as it had a hair in it). The lady (owner) refused to oblige and continued to say "There's no hair in Baldy's". We paid our bill and left. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. Hopefully they realize that service and good quality matters. read more

Food is just so so. If you don't feel like cooking it will do. Servers are friendly and helpful. Small dining area and dated.

If you read my other reviews, you will know that I do not write many negative reviews. After 2 horrible experiences here, I will never return. I'm not only going from my own experiences but also family members experiences. The fried fish was over cooked thin pieces. They are more like jerky. There wasn't even any batter coating on it. We asked if we could get the fish replaced & the server brought ONE piece just for me. She didn't replace my brothers fish at all. The salad was tiny & consisted of a bowl of lettuce. Then, during another visit my aunt ordered a burger. The meat tasted like it was spoiled. She told the server about the issue. She would not replace it. My aunt threw it away & was still charged for it. I'm in shock at the service & the food here. I guess they are relying on the fact that they are one of the only restaurants between La Vernia & Sutherland Springs. However, my family & I will never be desperate enough to eat here again. I wish I had taken photos of what they were trying to pass off as food but I didn't think about writing a negative review. read more

We love Baldy's! Have lived here almost a year, and have eaten there several times, with not one bad meal! The breakfasts are delicious, filling and affordable. The lunches are excellent, and the prices are ridiculously low. Every waitress I have ever had has been friendly and attentive. My grandkids love to eat here because dessert is included in their meals. read more

Had breakfast this morning and service was not great. The young lady did her best, however she didn't know what decaf was and came back a out 6 times to ask more questioms about our order that she forgot. Our scrambled eggs came out burnt, and then when it came back, it had hair cooked in the bacon. I spoke to the owner, and her response was, "Baldy's have no hair" as if I lied about the hair when it was clearly there! They brought me more food that I didn't ask for. Obviously, after her reaction I no longer felt comfortable to eat there. I went to pay our check and the owner (red hair short lady) would not remove it from our bill. This "business owner" had the audacity to think that this is a way to treat a paying customer and to run a business. They ought to be ashamed and embarrassed. I mean a hair in my food and she told me no hair at Baldys.. All of Adkins warned us, but we thought we'd see for ourselves, and here you have it, folks! read more

Tried this place out today during lunch. I can't say enough good things, but I can tell you I will be back! Atmosphere is quaint and decorated with, well, junk mostly or antiques if you like (but really mostly junk, old license plates etc) and dressed up with some diner-esque frills. The menu is lengthy and filled with diner favorites and steaks too. The tables are well loved but comfortable and with a semi open kitchen there's little mystery to your food prep. All in all the atmosphere is probably not what will draw you back, but for a little joint on a country road it is exactly as expected. Now the food is absolutely fantastic! I had a special, the bacon avocado burger with curly fires and a sweet tea. The burger isn't one of those burnt thin patties but a thick juicy slab of meat between two soft buns. Filled with fresh flavorful veggies and pepper jack cheese. I haven't had a burger this good in San Antonio before! The curly fries weren't anything special, seems like they forgot to add the seasoning. The salad was typical, nothing special there. Sweet tea was just right and had free refills. Service was okay. Didn't have to wait to be seated (seat your self) and had our drinks out and orders taken within 5 minutes so I have no complaints. Food came out hot and fast and we got a few checks for refills etc. Problem was when it was time to leave we never got our checks and had to beg the line cook for to go boxes. Well we figured out to line up at the register and were on our way quickly after. I think that's an Adkins thing, other places have the same routine in place, so no stars taken for that. All in all a very pleasant experience and my only regret is not saving room for dessert! read more

I've been to Baldy's on numerous occasions. The food is always on point. Excellent burgers and their breakfast is outstanding. Be careful when you ask for condiments. I've been charged for ordinary things like lemons for my tea and extra mayo for my burger. Also, be cautious at the register! I have been overcharged more than once. Now, I ask for an itemized receipt. My biggest complaint is the lack of customer service exhibited by the manager. She can be extremely rude at times. read more

I'm glad there's a new restaurant out this way. I've been to Baldy's numerous times and generally really enjoy it. The staff is very good. The food is pretty good. I like the biscuits and gravy, and the turkey BLT is *awesome.* There definitely are some difficulties with the staff getting the orders right at times. For example, I ordered the avocado turkey burger, hold the cheese, but it ended up coming with cheese. I am hoping these are growing pains that will be worked out. All in all, it's a nice addition to the neighborhood. You should try it. read more

We found this place when we were in the mood for a small, cozy diner feel type of place a while back. When we walked in we noticed the decor was definitely American Classic (signs for old chevy cars, license plates on the wall, etc). We greeted very politely and taken to a small table. The menu had a good variety of classics: Burger, Chicken Strips, Turkey Club, French Dip, Chicken Fried Steak, Fish, etc. We have been here a few different times now and tried a few different things on the menu. Overall we were pleased with the quality of the food for the price. So I love cheesesticks and I've ordered them here a couple times. They are tasty but it never fails, the waitress will come out a few mins. after I order them and say "we ran out of marinara" I'm beginning to think they don't carry it at all because we have gone over the course of 6 months or so and they have never once had it. We also love fried pickles.... not from here though. The slices are cut way to thick and the batter had TONS of cayenne in it. My mouth was on fire after just 1 pickle. All that said, we LOVE the coziness of this place. We often times will stop in here for a bite to eat before we go play a round of put put golf at Green Acres across the street. read more

This business likes to overcharge your bill and have no respect for old combat military veterans. When we try to correct the problems the manager defended the Chargers. We purchased two items on the menu totaling less than $13.00 but they charged us $19.19 this is rediculous but they did it and defended it. No way taxes and 25 cent to containers account for over six dollars in overcharges. The food was ok but not worth the cost or secret charges. If you agree with a couple of old combat veterans do not go to this business on Thursday. read more

If I could rate it zero stars I would! Today is the second time I've been to Baldy's. The first time I went the hostess asked me how many, I replied "1". She sat me and placed two menus at the table. I said, "It's just me today." She came back a few minutes later with silverware for 2 and set them down. I said again, "I'm alone today." She left the table. After 10 minutes passed I waved her over and asked if I could place my order, she replied, "I thought you were waiting for someone." The service left a lot to be desired but the food was good enough for me to give it a second chance. My husband and I went in today at 12:30. I understand it's the church/lunch rush, however, I've never waited an hour and 15 minutes for my food before. After 45 minutes passed we asked the waitress to please check on our food. She said she would check and walked by our table twice after that but never came back to the table to let us know the status. After another 25 minutes passed we asked for our check for the soup, salad and drinks we had. She asked if we wanted our food to go. No, just wanted the food period! She said, they're plating it up right now. We stayed and ate there. Right after we got the food (1 hour and 10 minutes after we ordered) an older woman came by and said "I told you it was going to be an hour for your food." No, she did not. One bad experience and one HORRIBLE experience. Done with this joint!! read more

This is a mixed review as the food is usually good, not stellar but good for a small town. The problem arises from the creative math at the register. We learned today after 3 yrs of being weekly customers that if you order a meal that includes a beverage, you'd better specify you want a small beverage that is included. We were ALWAYS given the beverage in a styrofoam cup. We weren't even aware there was a smaller size as the menu doesn't say that there is. So, after ordering our meals which both included beverages, we were additionally charged $4.00 for two drinks because "we got the large drinks". Then when we questioned how two burger specials totaled $21.45, we got a poor attitude from our cashier. I guess Baldy's will no longer be a regular spot for us. read more
