I was in the area for a meeting and stopped here for lunch. I arrived at 11am, so they had stopped serving breakfast and weren't serving lunch yet; I was seated but unable to order until 11:30. My wife and I went here with another couple for dinner. Because of that, I decided not to take photos of the food, but just a couple photos of the interior. The restaurant is very well appointed, but was not very busy by Naples standards (in season, every night is a weekend night for someone). We started by splitting two appetizers, the fried calamari ($29), which included shrimp and vegetables with arugula, with a good yogurt dip marinara, and the rustic bread plate ($12), which consists of freshly baked rustics bread, served with sun-dried tomato and garlic oil. The calamari was good, but nothing out of the ordinary, as was the bread plate. I had the seared diver scallops ($62), which were four large scallops on black ink linguine scampi style, with shrimp, tomato, basil and garlic. It was very good, but a bit skimpy for the price. My wife had the house signature black grouper ($65), which was served with neonata relish, crab & charred corn, a truffle risotto cake and champagne citrus beurre blanc which I tried. The flavor was excellent a it was perfectly cooked. The others had seared ahi tuna ($66), which is served with cantaloupe, mint, melon, risotto, yuzu pearls, with soy sauce and honey cream, and the Chilean sea bass ($68), served with broccolini, parsnip, baby carrots, tomato, basil, garlic and champagne beurre blanc. They both liked their meals. We finished by splitting a slice of key lime pie ($16), which was very good. So overall we had two appetizers, four entrees, and one dessert. The service was prompt and attentive, although a bit businesslike. Now Naples is not an inexpensive place to eat as anyone who has been there or read any of my other reviews will know; however, I believe this may have been the most expensive meal I've ever had here. Cocktails run in the $21-$23 range, and wine by the glass starts at about $16. I don't drink, but everyone else had two drinks of one type or another. The bill, with tip, was roughly $600. While the food was very good, the prices rivaled some of the best restaurants I have eaten at in cities like New York, Chicago, and even Paris. Unfortunately, I'm not sure that the food, while very good, lived up to the price. read more

Our server was great! The food was excellent! The sunset view was amazing! The atmosphere was beautiful. The hostess was very disappointing! We made reservations for outside for the sunset. When arriving, she gave a couple ahead of us with no reservations an outside table and then told us there were no outside seats. She walked us out to firepit seating in sand and told us first come.... There were no seats. There were several tables empty and a few taken on the uncovered patio. We asked a waiter if we could sit there after briefly explaining we had reservations outside but were told no. He told us to sit and he would take care of us. OMG, I celebrated my birthday last night at Baleen and couldn't have imagined a more perfect experience. Our fine dining server Marius was beyond impressive. He explained every ingredient of each dish and was a pure pleasure. I had the snapper with lemon risotto and my husband had chicken. Both meals were delicious. The per glass wine list was also quite extensive. Then to top off the night I was served the most delicious mini birthday carrot cake layered with whipped cream cheese, made by a talented pastry chef Adam. Food was out of this world. We split the octopus appetizer which was rich in flavor and cooked perfectly. Our entire table ordered the grouper special. The piece of fish itself was generous for the portion and seated atop a creamy, crispy risotto cake. I noticed crab listed in the item description, but it didn't stand out as a prominent flavor. Finally, our waiter brought out the chocolate cake to split to celebrate our occasion for dining. With a waterfront view on the ocean, this has to be one of my favorite new spots in the area. After losing the beach club on naples, we were pretty upset after years of gatherings & meals there. While I'm still sad as can be for that loss, I am excited that it guided me to another restaurant on the beach - Baleen. The views were fantastic and tons of guests flocked outside by the fire to watch the sunset. It was seriously stunning and I was incredibly impressed by all aesthetics. Please make a reservation in advance unless you want to face a long wait and don't forget to order a couple of apps. The homemade bread was perfect for 5 of us and a perfect pre-meal. The best order by far was the filet and one of my friends actually claimed it was the best she ever had - I know her mashed potatoes were absolutely the best I've had. Lobster bucatini was..... underwhelming? Not a whole lot of taste with little to no sauce and not enough noodles. You also have to cut up your own lobster to spread within which I would've preferred it precut (high maintenance problems) All in all, this place was really great and worth the view if nothing else. First of all you go to Baleen for the beachfront dining. So #1 mission accomplished with a gorgeous beach view. The restaurant was very busy with a wedding being hosted and our very polite and good server shared this information. However it was disappointing that we either had to hustle in our entire order or risk long delays. We hustled our order and enjoyed the food and wine at a quick pace. However the price tag on the dishes are very high and feeling rushed was not the vibe I was hoping when I made the reservations a month ago. The final downer was the valet team lost our car and we waited over 30 minutes for them to find and deliver our car back to us. Hope was high for a perfect night out but the execution was not as strong as I would have hoped. read more

Staff was great, our waiter Angelene (spelling?) was excellent, very knowledgeable about the menu and had a nice short visit with him about the area. Two in our party had the chef's specialty, Blackened Grouper, they both absolutely loved it. One had the night's special, Seafood Paella, he was very impressed with it. Lots of seafood in it, so much that he had a bit to take home for lunch the next day. I had the Chilean Seabass, this was my first try of this fish, so good! I would absolutely order it again. "This was my first time there. When I arrived I was least unimpressed by the two people that were standing at counter. I bet I stood there for 2-3 min before they even acknowledged me standing there. One was too busy looking at the iPad while the other one watched. I thought boy I hope the rest of the nights service isn't like this. And it wasn't. Better late than never....brunch at Baleen was not as good as I/we hoped for. First impression, the place is nice, the decor is coastal and inviting and that view! We arrived a little early and we were told that we could not be sat until our 12:00 reservation, even though there were a few other tables that were being occupied by patrons so we went to the bar and ordered some drinks and visited for a bit, so far, good, but not great. The host then came over to get us to take us to our table, I'm not sure if he was running a race, a relay or just in a really big hurry to get back to the host station, but he walked so fast in front of us, I had a hard time catching up, in fact we were all trailing behind him. Once sat our server came over, introduced himself, he was quite nice with a charming foreign accent. We all place our orders, 3 ladies got the eggs Benedict, one requested an extra crispy English muffin, one person got the grouper tacos, and I had the ceviche. My ceviche was good, but not outstanding - not amazing and flavorful like Bar Tulias ceviche. The flour tortilla on the grouper tacos were tough and a bit stale, and 2 of the 3 egg Benedict's were over cooked and did not have the lava of golden yolk that one would expect from a poached egg. Lastly, the extra crispy English muffin - wasn't even toasted. Oh, I almost fort we also order calamari and deviled eggs. Eggs were good, not as good as Whiskey Parks, but good. The calamari in my opinion was eh. Not a lot of flavor. Overall, this place ranks right up there with Gumbo Limbo. Expectations were high. Maybe the dinner experience would be better? I just feel for this price point our meals should have left us wanting more. Best thing about this place -the view!!!! read more
