I went there with a group, for the buffet thinking as a vegetarian there would be plenty of options. There were almost none. Maybe I should have ordered directly from the menu but this place is definitely not for vegetarians. And to top it off, I was asking someone who was working around the buffet about some of the food and they didn't speak a word in English but made a rude shoulder gesture, barely looking at me. This used to be my favorite Chinese food restaurant ever and post pandemic I've got to say it's fallen off a cliff. While I can see why they lost the Buffett I guess... what bothers me the most is the plummeting food quality. The boneless spareribs, once a high light are always rubbery and overseasoned. The General Gao is sloppy, greasy and not even on par with Trader Joe's despite a fairly heft pricetag. The beef teriyaki is rubbery and far too salty. Virtually everything I've had on the menu the last three times I've went has been a disappointment. I write this review with a lot of sadness since once upon a time this was my favorite Chinese food. Now it's just not worth the price or the very unpleasant person who does the takeout orders. I've been getting the same dish for years and never had a problem until last night. It was overly salty for the first time ever. It also had no broccoli which it used to always. I told the wait staff who barely understood me and had to get the tall young, guy in the front to interpret. He told me every chef always makes it the same. Yeah, sure. Okay... He said he'd have it remade, but I didn't want to waste food. (Should have done that!) I just didn't feel heard... sounds dumb, but it felt like he was saying it was all in my head. It was just the sauce on the pan fried noodles (chicken & vege only) that was salty. So I eventually just poured my sparkling over it to dilute it enough to be palatable... cold but I could eat it. Oh, i asked for a couple of pieces of broccoli & he said I'd have to order a $15 plate of it because he couldn't just give me what usually comes with the dish. WHAT EXACTLY IS GOING ON HERE?!! More like a chain mentality. I said okay to the $15 broccoli because I had a gift certificate & ended up just giving them the whole $50 certificate on a $34 bill just to get out of there, leaving waaay too much tip for the service I received!!!!! Asian fusion can be a little hit and miss and I don't usually like to mix up my Japanese, Chinese and Thai. However, Bamboo does a few items quite well. In particular, I love their Orange Chicken, it has a bold orange flavor with plenty of burnt orange rind. The sushi was pretty average, but to be fare this was a large takeout order for a company lunch. It is pretty hard to do good sushi under those circumstances. The Good: Orange Chicken - My favorite dish on this visit Gyoza - Good Boneless Sparerib - sliced Chinese BBQ Pork - good Eggplant and Chicken - nothing fancy but still good House fried rice - nothing fancy but still good The Average: Chinese Shao-mai - just ok. The review is for the lunch buffet. I normally avoid buffets for many reasons (food quality, sanitation, encourages overeating). But this was a work function, and I had already made excuses the last two times so I felt obligated. In any case, I knew sister restaurant Bamboo Westford from dining in and take-out was very good so I went. I was pleasantly impressed. A very large selection of items. From appetizers: all the traditional ones and more. I particularly liked the boneless spare-ribs - tender and sweet - and the scallion pancakes. Some less-common items; egg-foo-yong - not as good but points for offering it. Entrees - a large selection, and I only tried 2 out of many. A white-sauce shrimp with vegetables - lots of small shrimp, very fresh, and the vegetables were perfectly cooked. And a schechuan tofu - very good. A big surprise at buffets: sushi! Maki rolls and sushi, at least 8 kinds. Nothing terribly expensive obviously, but they did have tuna and shrimp sushi, many kinds of maki including my favorite "spicy tuna", and veg. selections too. They keep the cost down by slicing the expensive items like tuna thinner than normal and the maki rolls are sliced thinner than usual. Ok by me. All the sauces one could want. Not just the duck sauce and mustard one normally finds. Also schechuan hot oil (which I love), special sauces for the raviolis and egg-foo-yong, soy and wasabi for the sushi, and probably more that I forgot. Very unusual for a chinese buffet: desserts! Several styles of cakes, jellos (very retro), and ice-creams (ginger and strawberry I think). I didn't sample these. I had intended to finish with a scoop of ginger ice cream over cake but the line had gotten long and everyone else at my table was finishing up. The buffet table looked great at all times. It was constantly being refilled and at no time did I notice any item missing. Can't comment on the drinks. Sadly, people no longer feel comfortable drinking alcohol at work functions. Oh, for the days of "Mad Men." Service: not much needed for buffet dining. Our waters were never allowed to get less than 1/2 full. The only annoyance was when a waiter tried to take my plate away while I was still eating from it, but that's pretty minor and it only happened once. The place looks very nice - an upscale Chinese restaurant decor, with artsy fake-bamboo-tree room dividers, cascading water walls, and faux stained glass ceiling panels with oriental motif. I've always been a big fan of buffets and I decided to give this place a try. My first impression after I was seated at my table was, where's the food?! It felt like I had to search my way all around the restaurant before finding the location of the food. I was seated pretty far away so it was quite a bit of travels to get back to my table. The sushi here is definitely bland. I didn't like the sushi at all. The hot food however, wasn't too bad. It was pretty average. They have absolutely no napkins at all in this restaurant. That is a big no-no in my book. Instead, they have like the handkerchief or whatever you call it. I know it sounds nasty, but I'd like to be able to blow my nose when I eat spicy food or what not. They have ginger and green tea ice cream. I've never heard of a ginger ice cream flavor before so I gave it a try. It kind of tastes like the Vietnamese desert: Che Troi Nuoc. I have been a faithful customer of Bamboo since the restaurant opened, but I am really disappointed with the treatment I recently got from the manager. Three times now I have been given the wrong takeout order, and most recently (Friday) the manager took my order and I was given an order of shu mai rather than chow mein. When I called and talked to him about replacing the order, he proceeded to argue with me and tell me that I ordered shu mai instead and kept arguing with me, never once apologizing or offering me a replacement dish. He even denied that the restaurant offers chow mein even after I told him that I had gotten the dish there before! He was rude and uncompromising, and I will find a more accommodating restaurant in the future. He shouldn't be a manager, or he should go for more managerial training on customer relations. I went here once for later dinner. Nice to see Asian food that isnt the regular fried rice and poo poo platter.BIg menu. We had a spicy beef and green bean dish and sone other stuff that sounded yummy when ordering.They were! Drinks were a bit on the higher side ($8+ for a mai tai) but they were VERY good- not too strong or weak. We will be back again -without the kid! Came here a number of times and really enjoyed the buffet they offered on the weekends. A fairly decent selection and one thing offered not common to a buffet is stir fried lobster. It goes out fast but they do a decent job of restocking. Along with their buffet are a couple of sushi boats stocked and restocked by the sushi chefs. While the buffet is a good bang for your buck, the normal menu is quite good too. Sushi is fresh and the Chinese dishes are well made. Portions are good too, I'm usually good with two sushi rolls or one entree dish and appetizer. Bamboo decor and service is quite good. Definitely worth the four stars I'm giving it. Some star dropping points, tea is pretty outrageous at $4 a pot so stick with water or spend it on the drinks. Also parking can be quite tight as the share the lot with other businesses like Flatbread next door. One more point that I'm not penalizing them on but should but this recent visit with my girlfriend I felt like the waiter serving us had this judging, disapproving a-hole tone when addressing me and then did a 180 when talking to my girlfriend. Is it because he didn't want to take my order? Or is it because I only ordered a salad and a sushi roll because I was full from an early lunch? Not sure what that was all about but at least he wasn't making my food. I would've left the bare minimum tip tonight if my girlfriend wasn't treating me. Nice restaurant. I was on business travel and my boss invited me out to dinner with her family, so I didn't order as much as I would have under normal circumstances. The Shanghai Pan-Fried noodles were delicious but I would have preferred more noodles. Maybe it's because I'm a carboholic. I did get to try the minced chicken in lettuce cups and thought they were just okay. I think PF Chang's is better, and I'm not a huge fan of PF Chang. I thought it was a nice touch that they handed out red envelopes to everyone in celebration of Chinese New Year. Inside was a brand new dollar bill and a nice message from the restaurant. This was a terrible experience. We are from out of town and found this place on yelp. Where to start? The service was slow and the waitress a bit rude. We ordered 2 meals and waited on our seats for a while. Then the rude waitress came back and said " oh your order came less than $15.00 per person so we could not do it ". We were like " what ??!" We visited this place for lunch today. I liked the classy decor and the food was decent. I had a plate of regular hot buffet foods like chicken wings and a plate of sushi rolls. The boneless chicken seemed to have a strong taste of something I can't quite identify but created from the cooking process. For dessert, I had 1 scoop of their ginger and strawberry ice creams. This place seems quite popular as it was full soon after we sat down. On the negative side, the layout of the restaurant was such that lines forming for the buffet tables will snake through the dining area. That was the case today where the line seemed to extend all the way to the front door. As there was a corner, I couldn't quite tell if it really did reach the front door. However, after about 15 minutes, it became more manageable as the crowd got their food and the line only extended to our table. My family and I had eaten at Bamboo a few weeks ago and we had a great experience; good food , good drinks, and a nice atmosphere. Eight of us came back on April 23, 2018. We ordered multiple entrees including soups and we each had drinks totaling almost $200. One of my nieces came late to the gathering and ordered a soup. When she began to eat, she noticed a black bug in her soup. The bug looked like a baby cockroach and was floating near the top of the bowl. My niece nearly ate the bug as she was scooping from the bowl. She quickly pushed it away and my sister called the waitress. The waitress apologized and stated she wouldn't touch the bowl, as she was afraid of insects. The waitress then asked the manager to come and remove the bowl of soup with the bug. We were all disgusted. Most of us had already eaten and felt as if we all could have eaten insects and not having known. We expressed our disgust to the manager and waitress and they said they wouldn't charge us for the soup with the bug and asked if we wanted to take home the leftovers. We said, "Hell no!" We got our bill and the manager didn't even take off anything else even though we were all disgusted. I felt they should at least taken off for some of the food we wouldn't eat. So that's exciting I thought: Asian fine dining. So, let's get started with this experience. The venue is ok but nothing special. Modern interior with some Asian touch. I think they are trying to create fine dining atmosphere by dimming the light. Definitely service is not creating fine dining atmosphere. I ordered the sweet and sour soup as a starter and the fine dining atmosphere changed to fast food for the first time. Got the soup within 1:23 mins. Soup was really bad. Neither sour nor really spicy and quite tasteless. Ordered the spicy boneless duck as a main. Fast food second attempt: duck was flying in while I was still having the soup. Shouldn't they kind of at least make their patrons feel like the food has been freshly prepared? Whatever, taste is the most important thing in a restaurant. So I can proudly announce that this has been the worst duck I have ever eaten in a restaurant - and being a frequent business traveller I'm eating out a lot. The duck tasted old for advertising this as a boneless duck, it had a lot of bones. If that was just the only thing to complain about. The sauce was the most bland thing that I ate for a long time. Even the rice was too dry. The only fine dining at this place is the price: it's totally fine for the owner to rip you off with bad quality food. This has been one of the two restaurants with the by far worst Asian food I have ever been to. I told this to the waiter and he took the plate away without even excusing for the mess. Oh....worthwhile mentioning: the diet coke tasted ok...but when you are trying to be fine dining, you should at least add a slice of lemon. They send some guy to my table who tried to apologize and offered to give me a discount (travelling on business with my employer paying for the expenses, I don't care about discount, I care about good food for my mood). I explained to him that the food was not worth a penny. He did not really react to this and I got the bill with 50% off. At least I got a nice fortune cookie: "no man is without enemies". I had a difficult time on deciding how many stars to give this place...so I went for 3 and will try and explain why. I've only been to Bamboo for lunch as I just get a kick out of these new fancy-shmancy Chinese Restaurants that are popping up serving almost the same food as you'd get for take-out, but charge you an arm and a leg for it. The lunch buffet is $13. You'll be escorted to your seat at a nice looking table with a nice looking table cloth...with chairs that are reasonably comfortable. There is no Salt-n-Pepper shaker at these tables. There is no complimentary water that comes along either. Oh, you can ask for these things...just don't assume they'll be there when you sit down. New Waitress: "Do I bring the customer water?" Owner: "You noooo bring wat-uh. Dey ask fo wat-uh...den you bring wat-uh...sell dem soda...make money...pretend no wat-uh hee-yuh" New Waitress: "Oh ok. Should I setup the salt and pepper shakers for the tables then?" Owner: "AIYEE, BANZAI! NO SALT EN PEPP-UH...DEY ASK FO IT, DEN YOU GIVE DEM" Also...I hope you're not thirsty, b/c you'll pay a fair amount if you want something like soda. No free refills here...no sir. If you're thirsty, you'll pay for another slender glass of non-brand name soda. Yes...that IS the large drink you ordered. There is only one size. If there were a small, it would be a moist napkin to sup on. The typical Chinese fare is pretty good actually, but the prize of this buffet is the sushi. It's not mind-blowing, but due to the higher price of the buffet, I think people try and eat their money's worth...so yeah, sushi is popular. The buffet itself is tucked into a tiny little alcove...and you'd better prepare to bump elbows with somebody if a new boat of sushi has just been delivered. There is no order or anything resembling organization at this buffet. Being a reasonable consumer, you'll start at one end trying to determine where the line is, but you will see THAT person. Ya know...THAT ONE person who despite all of the white collar workers, from local business that come to dine for their 1 hour lunch, coming at them from one direction, decides that THEY are going to start at the other end and work there way against the tide with an ignorant bliss. Other desperate patrons towards the back of YOUR line will witness this charade and jump in behind THAT ONE person...so now you have two lines playing "buffet leapfrog"...in that same tiny little alcove. Oh and word of warning...don't dilly-dally at the Sushi line too long either, when it's YOUR turn. Get your Soosh and get out. I actually had a woman two people behind me, while waiting for sushi, audibly sigh when I took my 6th piece of sushi. I am talking my 6th...not my 15th or anything. And I am not talking a Modest-Under-Her-Breath sigh. I am talking like a OMG-I-missed-the-Lottery-By-One-Number sigh!!! I was almost like "Lady...are you serious? WHO can't eat SIX pieces of Sushi?! I am going to stand right behind you and breathe down your neck while watching you take YOUR 6 pieces, you BEEYOTCH!". *gasps for air But I digress. So if the Sushi boats are empty...as they often are...go back to your table and wolf down another chicken wing or peking ravioli...and while you're sitting there trying to ration your sips of soda, you will feel a sudden disturbance in the force...and will sense "her". The young Chinese lady walking towards the buffet with a brandy new boat of freshly prepared Sushi on her shoulder. Watch the other patrons...because they, too, are watching her...like vultures eyeballing a lonely lost bunny in the desert. Prepare for the onslaught of eager rude foodies as you're waiting in line...prepare for gathering your sushi, wasabi, soy sauce and ginger. It's an arduous task...especially when the tiny bowls are at the end of the buffet past the sushi...but the wasabi, soy sauce and ginger are before the sushi. So you actually have to grab your sushi...move towards the little bowls after the sushi boat...only to try and track back to where the wasabi, soy sauce and ginger was before the sushi boat, to find that the next person in line isn't waiting for you. They've moved in for THEIR sushi now. "Oh yeah, remember me? The One grabbing all the sushi in front of you? Yeah, well now I am have to cut back into the line I was just leader of...cut in before some of you again so I can bowl up some of my Sushi sides...and I am feelin' just a LITTLE PUNCHY at the moment, so move it!" Grrr.... So yes...the buffet includes sushi. Just don't expect anything too exotic show up on this public showboat of sushi...just the usual rolls. One slender thimble of Soda... $1.99 One buffet that includes Fighting for Sushi... $12.99 The feeling that all of mankind has somehow lost that loving feeling... Priceless read more
